So if you want to pay $80 for a cotton print tablecloth, in theory you can be helping the world out. Oh, the problems in execution, though. They can't really tell you how much of the money goes back to the native craftspeople, nor much about the sourcing or labor conditions. It's like Fair Trade coffee - you have to take somebody's word for it, and the word is passed along by the telephone game. I'd actually be willing to do this on faith if the crafts and items here were really unique or even to my taste, but they seem a bit mass-produced to me and without the hallmarks of individual craftsmen, so I'm not only not terribly interested in the goods but I'm highly suspicious of the general claims. This may seem a bit scroogey of me, but I think on the whole if I want to stimulate development in the third world I'll extend a microloan over the internet (very direct and very cost-effective) or buy somebody a share of a goat. I would normally just settle on the usual three stars, given my cynical skepticism above, but the hideously steep prices push it from "would go back and check it out occasionally" to "not going to bother" territory.

I am very pleased with the swivel chair I bought for my LR. And I just received the Amish made solid Cherry bed I ordered. Beautiful! I could select from over 20 wood finishes! Service is A+. Friendly and knowledgeable! Helpful: Scott let me borrow a metal bed frame until my bed arrived. Communication is excellent. Easy to contact, and you speak to an actual person, the owner. Delivery was efficient and competent. Experienced deliverymen. Prices are competitive and fair value. Selection is outstanding. For example, I could select from over 100 upholstery fabrics for the chair I selected. In addition to the showrooms, there are numerous catalogs available online and paper copy. Support small local businesses when you can, especially when they are far better choices than the chain stores.

The styles are mostly traditional American - Shaker, country, and simpler styles, not the more elaborate 19th century American variations on Victorian and pre-war overstuffed - but they do include a lot of fairly stodgy upholstered styles as well. They claim mostly Amish manufacturers, in small lots, and the basic woods are (supposedly) all American-grown - cherry, oak, walnut, hickory, and pine in evidence, not sure about maple and cedar, but the staff say they can order almost any piece in one of the basic woods. The owners are also the sales staff so it's a true small business. The only thing not great about Kugler's is the prices, which are full boat retail price. As in, $300 for a small cabinet, $1000 for a small dining room table, $1500 for an armchair, just for a sample. These are not outliers; they're typical. I've bought unfinished pieces of similar manufactured Amish origin at Adirondack unfinished for significantly less, but - those are unfinished and unupholstered, and the quality isn't really quite as high as the basic stuff at Kugler's. So it's not quite a competition so much as different ends of the same spectrum in the same basic vein. The true differentiator may be that you basically are going to be able to custom-order a piece with the wood, finish, and upholstery of your choice, for the most part; it's not true custom furniture as you're ordering a known type or style but it's pretty close in terms of customization within the range of choices. And they do have some very nice pieces. I'm a little reluctant to go to four stars without some evidence as to the long-term quality of the furniture, but then again you'd be waiting a while for that, presumably, so consider this a placemarker review in the meantime. But I also note I can't really afford to shop here for anything big, so I am out of my league - take that for whatever it's worth in terms of the star rating or the credibility of this reviewer.

I purchased gorgeous hand towels & liquid soaps, gifts for a friend, The store owner, Anne, is friendly, and I told her of my excitement about my flight to see and gift my friend. She made sure to alert me that unless I was checking the bag, my gift of liquid soap would be rejected at airport security. If I was only using carry-on, she recommended the 4oz hand cream which my friend adored. I was so thankful because I would have had to throw out the beautiful French hand soap that I'd just purchased! Thank you for such a personable and kind experience. This shop takes me back to kinder, gentler days of healthy main streets filled with little boutiques curated individually to reflect the human sensibility of an individual, NOT a soulless corporation. b.inspired home is a truly beautiful gallery offering vintage and new treasures. In addition to such a nice selection, I was delighted to see original paintings by a local artist. I really liked the art and was surprised at the selection of magnificent pieces like one depicting Florence and another of Aix en Provence. Wandering between beautifully curated display tables, I could not help but sing along with French Icon, Edith Piaf playing in the background. How befitting in this boutique in Niskayuna which looks like a shop that I could have stumbled upon along the French Riviera. Merci Beaucoup, Anne. Thank you for bringing this gem to our community.
