I spent far too many years of my life being ignorant of the benefits of a good hat. Thanks to Classic Collection, I've now got a warm waterproof model for winters, and a ventilated lightweight version for summer. In both cases, the rain never hits my glasses or my neck, and the sun is never in my eyes. They have lots of styles, and, despite having an oversized head, they've got lots of things that fit me well. I have a huuuge head :(. I have only worn hats for mere seconds before having to throw them off and curse the heavens because of the pulsing any hat causes when pressed against my robust cranium. Ah - but this amazing store does not discriminate. There are large and extra large sizes for people like me and I found some amazing Panamanian hats that were well made and very reasonably priced - ranged from 50-80 dollars. Their website simple doesn't do them justice. Every inch is filled with a huge solution of men's and women's hats in about every shape, style and color imaginable. I had been shopping online and saw a hat I was very interested in, however I was reluctant to order from a picture at someone's website. I wasn't sure of the size and actual color let alone how I'd look wearing the hat. I was very pleased with the options of the style I was interested in at Classic Hats on Hawthorne. Not only was I able to touch, try on and admire the hats I'd only seen pictures of online, I know I saves money shopping local. The hat I bought was a brown bowler for a dollar more that the base price online, and I'd still have to pay for shipping online. The staff was very friendly and helpful. For anyone looking for a hat of any kind, I highly recommend that you swing by this shop and compare what you might see at someone's website. It took awhile deciding how many stars to give Classic Collection. Three seemed fair... The store is divided half & half for ladies and gents' hats. The ladies side boasts a wall of various cloches, and a wall of elaborate Kentucky Derby hats. Unfortunately 75% of Classic Collection's lady hats are wool, (all of the cute cloche hats). I do not wear wool whatsoever, so my options are whittled down the other 25% made from straw or polyester. I'm not really on the lookout for a Kentucky derby or straw sun hat either... I'm usually left pacing the cloche wall and lifting each hat one by one to verify its wool status. Prices are moderate, about $30-$40 depending on what you want. Employees have always been nice, patient, and attentive without seeming pushy. Will I return? Yeah, probably... I have high hopes a polyester cloche will surface one day. read more

I was never a fan of hats because I have a big old noggin. It's super difficult to find one that fits and is stylish, so I avoid getting hats altogether. I usually buy a beanie in the winter and nada in the summer, but with an upcoming vacation, I knew I had to get something to hit my cranium. Walking into this store, you're greeted by the staff and hats, hats, hats. After looking at some women hats and feeling a bit disappointed that they were to small, one of the staff ladies asked if I needed some help. I let her know what I was looking for and pointed out some men's sunhats. Lo and behold, a whole table for sizes 2x and up! And one of them fit! The brim covers my face and goes up to 50+ USP protection rate. It even comes with a neck strap so it doesn't fall off from the wind. HATS OMG! Great prices and the selection is overwhelming though I do wish they had some additional style as well...like pub caps, pin box and such. If you need a fedora or top hat though they can hook you up and then some. I was very surprised at how well priced all the hats were as well. The service is pretty incredible - fast friendly service without them being up on you. read more

Man, I thought Seattle had it's urban hippy joints...but I gotta say Hawthorne blvd is nothing but blue haired pierced eye beer sippin retro happy hippies roaming the streets and shops! We took a stroll along the blvd after dinner and came across this nice little hat shop of quality style Australian made men's hats. My Dad loved it in here, he was like a kid in a candy store with all of the cool selections. The shop keeper was really friendly and helpful as well, and for 28 bucks we got my Dad a pretty nice bowler :D read more

I love this place! (On Hawthorne) Last year a visiting friend wanted to send a gift to her nephew. We found his hat then spent a deligtful hour trying on hats for ourselves and bought two apiece! Staff was nice and helpful with no pressure. Happily headed over again to get a new sunhat for this summer and just recommended shop to wait staff at my brunch place where they need some shade on this hot day! read more

I started by checking their web site. It said hours are 10a - 8p. Waited until ten after ten and called. Got a recording that said hours are 10a - 8p. Hopped in my car and drove down there and had to wait twenty minutes because they weren't open until 11a. I understand that with covid hours would and could change, that's why I went to the website and called to make sure. Was expecting to see lots of hats, and I did. They had a large selection. But they did not sell hats in normal hat sizes i.e. 7 1/8, 7 1/4. etc. They sell hat sizes medium, small, large, extra large. And if the hat doesnt quite fit because its too big, no problem, they will take foam padding and put it in the headband to make it fit. Im not paying nearly 70 bucks for a hat that doesnt fit and has the same type of foam you would put around your front door to stop air leaks to make it fit. Maybe this is standard practice. If it is, its time to stop buying hats. I am looking for a place that can sell me a hat that fits. This shop wasnt it. read more

Ball caps suck. It is time for men to rediscover the timeless style of a real hat. I don't have much money, so while I wish I could walk into John Helmer and drop $150 on a fedora, I had to find an alternative. Classic Collection is just such a place. There is a huge selection, the prices are right and the owner is cool. I found a great summer hat that gets a lot of compliments. Best part, the owner will let you haggle over the price. When was the last time an American salesperson was willing to make you a deal at a retail clothing store? I'll be back for my fall hat. read more

Okay selection of hats, but the shop was empty and the employee sat there watching- very awkward. In addition, the employee assumed I was just looking, which is pretty annoying. It would probably help if you have a good knowledge of they styles of hats men and women wear, and a sense of what you are looking for, because walking into this store may overwhelm you with the variety of the selections.
