We were tired of trying to make our grass grow and luckily, when we finally decided to xeriscape, we found Nick Clark and Clark's Custom Lawn. Nick sat down with us and drew out a plan that we loved. Nick Clark is a very friendly professional and does the Landscape Design before starting a job. If a customer has specific plants or hardscape items (like rock size and color), tell Nick before hand, otherwise you may end up with something you don't want. He doesn't trade or exchange items, the plant selection and rocks are locked in weeks before he and his crew start installation. Like other landscape contractors in Reno, in my opinion he is over priced for what he provides and installs. But as I mentioned, it's not just Nick, it's all over Reno, Sparks, and Carson City. I like his selection of plants and hardscape, the plants and hardscape are very attractive (year round). However, I have to be truthful about what I experienced, Nick says things that are masked with his overall plans. In my opinion, his workmanship is good, but not great. So all that said, I rate Nick Clark's Custom Lawn with a average mark, 3 stars. read more

Nick came by, gave us an estimate for sod in our backyard, installing a new drip system around the perimeter of the yard, fixing the irrigation system, adding a new auto timer, and new valves for both front & backyard irrigation. It was a BIG job. He replaced the valves on Day 1 and we had to be scheduled for the rest. It was about 4 weeks out. He was able to bump us up a week, and he and his crew finished the job today. It was a 2 day job for the sod, and sprinkler systems. There were 2 guys here both days, working non-stop. Nick came by and worked on the systems himself as well. He and his crew, were professional, on time, and did a quality job. We are thrilled with our new lawn, and the plants are going to be so happy to have water again! Nick is my landscaping god! He and his crew are simply the best professionals I have ever worked with on any kind of home improvement project. We have a large property and were really struggling with what to do in the areas we wanted to landscape. Nick walked the property for a few minutes and then, boom! Nicholas designed and completed my backyard landscape last December, right before the snow covered the ground. He came over promptly and drew up a design and went over each detail. I told home I wanted a low maintenance yard. He designed a zero scape type yard with irrigation. He arrived when scheduled and completed the project in one week, less than expected due to the weather. His team worked diligently and continuously with Nicholas checking in and participating daily in the project. His design turned out better than I could ever imagine! The stones he used were beautiful with multi colors showing in the sun. He covered my drainage path with attractive stones so as not to interfere with drainage, which my HOA required. He added large boulders and mounds that took the design to a new level! He added well placed lights and set the timer to my preferences. The plants were small since they were all young but I loved the layout. That winter it stormed and covered my entire yard with snow for several months. I only had stubs where plants were planted. I was concerned. When spring came and the snow melted, I was blown away by my beautiful plants that were blooming! I have been enjoying my yard ever since. I couldn't be more pleased! I have to echo some earlier reviews (e.g. Tim H.) describing the total lack of customer service and complete failure to respond to messages after our project was (mostly) completed. Their workmanship is decent, but they were not interested in addressing a couple of small issues we identified as well as a request for additional information so we could get our plans approved by our HOA. This is just no way to run a business and being a small business owner myself it is difficult to fathom how another small business that relies on its good reputation can operate in such a manner. We got our entire backyard redone by Nick Clark and his crew a few weeks ago and couldn't be happier with it. I was referred by another company that had come out to estimate but had a minimum that we didn't meet, but Nick was willing to do as much or as little as we wanted. He was able to come by the same day I called him to talk about what we wanted and give an estimate, and was very generous with his time in discussing all of our options. He also had great ideas and opinions to offer without ever being pushy or feeling like he was trying to up-sell (in fact he gently discouraged a couple ideas that he didn't think were worth the cost). He was able to schedule our job for a couple weeks out, which we were thrilled about, and we were also shocked that they got the entire thing done in 5 days, which included cleaning out and then filling in a giant pond and removing all of the irrigation and electricity for it, ripping out the old grass and a lot of old and overgrown plants and one large tree; and replacing with new sod, new curbing, and new plants, with rocks and DG around the edges. I loved that Nick was there the whole time working with the crew; it gave me more confidence that we would get exactly the backyard we discussed and that there wouldn't be confusion with anything lost in 2nd-hand communication with a separate foreman/crew member. We had the unfortunate timing of getting it done during a heat spell so a couple areas of the sod weren't doing well a few days after the job was done, and Nick came out the same day I called him about it to replace them at no extra cost. All of this at a total price that I thought was very reasonable! Highly recommend. read more
