My wife has been going here since she was a kid. They have delicious chocolates, fudge, truffles with flavors like marzipan and various cremes. You can make your own assorted box and pick your own from the case or they have prepackaged as well. They have a good selection of old school candies like candy buttons, sour patch kids, rock candy and the like. They get creative with things like "reindeer corn" around the holidays and themed stuff for Valentines, etc. I also like how reasonable their prices are-they are more than fair and affordable. If you need a good treat, stop by. Easily found off beautiful walkable main street in Keene, where many other great businesses are as well.

After a few blocks, we were intrigued by this store and wandered in. Lots of candy - reminded me a little of Economy Candy in NYC (iykyk) except very spacious instead of that crowded space on the Lower East Side. But towards the back, they have ice cream...one of my weaknesses. There were maybe 6 or 8 hard ice cream flavors plus some soft serve. Still pretty full, we shared just one scoop of "Maine Black Bear," very similar to my favorite Brattleboro Blueberry Haus Vermont Black Bear; vanilla ice cream with raspberry swirls and jam plus some chocolate chunks (VT version has chocolate raspberry filled!). Hit the spot for just a little sweetness after a well-seasoned dinner!

There are places that make you feel as though you've stepped into another era, and Hidden Springs…read moreMaple is one of them. Tucked away about an hour north of Hadley, Massachusetts, the drive alone is worth making. On this visit, the sun was shining, the temperature never climbed above 80 degrees, and the winding country roads were perfect with the sunroof open. By the time I arrived, it already felt like I'd left the rush of everyday life behind. I've always been fascinated by how real maple syrup is made. The kind that comes from the sap of maple trees rather than the artificially flavored syrups so many of us grew up with. While I didn't get to see the sugaring process itself, Hidden Springs Maple serves as the retail home for the family operation. Inside, the rustic barn-style shop is wonderfully nostalgic, with weathered wood, shelves lined with glass bottles and jars, and the unmistakable feeling of an old-fashioned country store. It feels less like a gift shop and more like a place where New England traditions have been carefully preserved. The young man behind the counter patiently entertained every one of my tourist-style questions, answering each with genuine enthusiasm and an obvious pride in the craft. Before making a purchase, I was invited to sample three grades of syrup--Amber Rich, Dark, and Very Dark (Robust)--a thoughtful touch that lets visitors appreciate how the flavors deepen from one variety to the next. Amber Rich was my favorite, and I happily left with a jug, along with maple cream, locally produced honey, smoked maple syrup, and a gift box of regional jams. Now comes the only real challenge: figuring out how to pack the maple jug and those glass jars for the trip home without breaking a single one. It's a small price to pay for bringing home a taste of a place that feels wonderfully timeless.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but I felt it was important to share my experience…read more I ordered a custom SpongeBob-inspired cake and provided a reference photo when placing the order. I specifically requested that the cake say "26 Years Later." The bakery assured me they could complete the cake by the date I needed it. Unfortunately, the cake I received looked significantly different from the inspiration photo I provided. The lettering was not what I requested, the colors were different, and the overall decorating quality did not meet my expectations for a custom cake. The frosting was uneven and had visible marks throughout the cake. To the bakery's credit, they did honor the original $60 price I was quoted after there was some confusion at pickup. However, I was disappointed with the final product and felt it did not reflect the design I ordered. I've included photos of both the inspiration cake and the cake I received so others can make their own comparison. Based on my experience, I would not order a custom decorated cake from this bakery again.

It's perhaps important to note that I don't often post reviews, but I was so impressed by the quality of these chocolates that, even a week later I feel the need to do so. Here's the deal: these were the best chocolates I have ever eaten. The multiple layers of encasing chocolate were thin and consistent, the caramel centers beautifully executed in both flavor and consistency - not overly sweet or salty, just perfectly balanced. The whole thing was just stunning. I was in Queechee, VT a few days later and picked up some other sea salt caramels, just as a test - nothing doing - they were not even close. I'm fairly well traveled and a bit of a gourmet, not on the snobby side, good food, good wine, etc. I did not think I would find the best chocolates ever down a back alley in Chester, VT. But I did. They are so good that I tried to change my return route to get some more, but I had to rush back home to NY. But I will be back. Also, the owners/staff are kind and welcoming, and the shop is charming and full of lovely local crafts and clothes. But for me, the chocolates are the star here. Go get them!
