Did an excellent job on a dental implant on my lower left rear molar. The procedure was over before I knew it!

That visit left me with an infection around tooth #19 and significant pain, and it seriously impacted my trust in dental care. From the moment I was seen by Dr. Lila Kim and her staff at Fairfax Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, that anxiety began to ease. Dr. Kim was professional, calm, and extremely thorough in explaining my condition and the treatment plan. She immediately identified the issue, addressed the infection, and performed the necessary surgery with great skill and care. Just as important as the clinical outcome was how supported and reassured I felt throughout the process. The entire staff was compassionate, attentive, and respectful, which made a difficult situation far more manageable. Thanks to Dr. Kim's expertise, I was able to move from severe pain and stress to a much more relaxed and stable recovery. I am genuinely grateful for the care I received and would highly recommend Dr. Kim and Fairfax Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery to anyone -- especially those who may be anxious due to prior negative experiences.

My appointment began with a blood pressure check by the dental assistant. After this, I was left alone in the examination room for approximately 30 minutes without any communication or update. When Dr. Kim entered, there was no acknowledgment of the extended wait or explanation for the delay. When the examination began, Dr. Kim immediately proceeded to administer injectable anesthesia without first applying topical numbing medication. In all of my prior dental experiences, providers have used a topical anesthetic (typically applied with a cotton swab) before administering injections to minimize discomfort. No such step was taken in this case. Additionally, rather than allowing sufficient time for the anesthetic to take full effect before beginning the examination, Dr. Kim continued working almost immediately. This approach felt rushed and unnecessarily uncomfortable. During the evaluation, I was informed that the implant had failed and that there was bone loss attributed to gingivitis associated with the implant placement. It is important to note that I have had two other implants completed in the same office by another provider without complication. This was not the first time I felt uneasy during treatment by Dr. Kim. During the original implant procedure, the environment also felt rushed. There was minimal reassurance, and interactions with staff appeared abrupt, including instances where instruments were taken from the assistant in a manner that seemed unprofessional. On both occasions, adequate time was not allowed for anesthesia to take effect before proceeding. Oral surgery requires precision, patience, and attentiveness not only to clinical standards but also to patient comfort and communication. My experience did not reflect those qualities. As a patient, I expect thoroughness, clear communication, and a measured approach, particularly during surgical procedures. Given these concerns, I will be working with the VA to pursue follow-up care at a different facility. I am left questioning whether my experience reflects broader issues in practice management or something more specific, but regardless, the encounter was deeply frustrating and disappointing. I hope this feedback is taken seriously and used to improve patient care moving forward.

I was worried that this experience would be another one that I would have to grin and bear for the sake of my teeth. From the moment I walked in, I knew it would be a different experience. The office is aesthetically pleasing, professional and warm; the staff were so kind, one team member was on the phone and another came over right away to check me in and get my payment. I appreciated that they sent me information prior to the appointment regarding what was covered and what was not. No surprises or weirdness there. Once I went back, I was prepped for the procedure by a staff member, I was doing general anesthesia, so they asked all of the right questions and then I was seen within a few moments by Dr. Rostami. The procedure went well, just felt like I took an amazing nap. While I kind of can't recall leaving either time because of the anesthesia, my friend who picked my up said they were great and my husband, who is a STICKLER for professionalism, said they were good. I had to call today to get a copy of an invoice for HSA, and it was in my inbox within 5 minutes and AJ stayed on the phone until I confirmed receipt. Thank you all for creating an environment where people can feel comfortable and confident in the team from start to finish. I have one more visit in a few months and hopefully I'll be all good. It feels good to know that in case of an emergency or routine oral surgery, this team will provide consistent, competent and comprehensive care. Thank you!!
