As a new home owner, having to do stuff for the house is still quite an unknown journey for me. And so, when we had wood rot on our balcony beam replaced, I was not excited to get it figured out. I read many reviews on Yelp, and after evaluating many contractors, I decided to use Yelp's project tool to contact Clark Innovative. When you do this, you get responses from many other companies too. Many reached out before Chris from Clark did. I ended up making an appointment with one of them to have them take a look at it. This person began has contract biz recently... and he did not seem confident. The way he was looking at it, he was reacting in a way that seemed like it's a bit of a pain in the you-know-what job and said it was going to cost a lot. He was a nice guy, but he did not instill confidence in me that he knew what he was doing. (He never even sent me a bid) After that, I wondered if I should reach out to these other companies that responded, but my intuition was telling me to wait a bit longer. Clark did eventually respond with apologies, and made an appointment to come look. They looked at it and just the way he was acting, I could tell this person knew what they were doing, and they came up with a solution to just replace the rotted portion, saving us half the cost! (So yeah, I believe the innovative part of their name!) It was all incredibly reasonable. Dates were pushed back etc, because of rain and other things, but I honestly didn't mind it. Chris tried to be a good communicator, and even when he wasn't, I could contact him and he'd respond. He was just busy. Sometimes, you can just tell with people who is being genuine. Who wants to simply do a good job for you, without gouging you or ripping you off. We need more of these people in the world right now. I'm glad I listened to my intuition, and waited for the right company to do the job. And I will definitely use them again for future work. Chris quoted 2-3 weeks and able to complete our bathroom remodel in 2 weeks. They removed a fiberglass shower, cut down a divider wall into a pony wall, installed new tile shower with rectangular drain. Installed vinyl flooring and floorboards. Installed a light over the shower and installed a fan/light. Also replaced old windows. And painted it. Chris has an eye for details and kept me up to date of the work being done. Also without asking, took care of my stuck side gate that I hadn't gotten around to and fixed our cracked bathroom door. Nice guy, good crew, hard working and skilled. Really reasonable pricing. I'll be honest. I'm a little dubious about giving away my secret weapon of a GC, but I thought I'd do Chris a favor and provide that feedback. If you're looking for a GC or just someone to do something you can't do, and are tired of the contractors showing up and doing a rendition of the old Raley's "Cha-Ching!" commercial with estimates - this is your guy. For the time I have known Chris, he is honest, polite and direct about how costs can be reduced and provides his own opinion on how best to proceed with a direction you may have in mind. I asked Chris and his team to replace a corner shower in a guesthouse with a tight timeframe as I had folks visiting for the holidays. Chris and Francisco were able to remove the old shower, fix some unexpected issues, and install the new shower in a few days (with minor tile, texture, and painting also done). My 80-year old house sustained storm damage from the last couple of winters. There was serious leaking around a window and got into the wall, but the source of the leak evaded all efforts to identify it. Multiple roofing inspections, chimney and window experts, a painting contractor, handymen, insurance adjusters and their own team of inspectors all could not determine the cause of the water damage. After the mitigation company removed some drywall the source of the leak still remained elusive, and it continued to rain and damage the structure. The contractor assigned to my case by insurance had no interest in actually finding and fixing the leak, only wanted the work of closing the wall up! Finally after much research I called Clark Innovative. Chris Clark promptly responded, came out to do an estimate, and created a plan of attack for the restoration ahead. He and his team did a thorough investigation, and through the process of elimination and by repeated water testing, the leak(s) were finally found. However, the location and nature of those leaks presented a serious challenge for repairs. Chris came up with the best possible solution, but definitely not the easiest. Their work was focused, careful and thorough. Chris always let me know what to expect and when. There were some delays caused by the window replacement, some complications and setbacks along the way, all of which were properly resolved as quickly as possible. The end result is amazing, so much better than I'd thought would be possible. The costs were reasonable and fair. We worked together to design several new features including the large butcher block counter, the oven cabinet, two pull-out pantries and installing soft closing hardware on drawers and doors. Clark Innovative just completed a full bath remodel for us. Pros: We are happy with the work: precise, sound, & demonstrated some design knowledge. We selected all materials and oversaw the layout, with some input from Chris. He was flexible with this and made suggestions when appropriate. His bid was very competitive. Cons: We ended up texting Chris more than expected in order to find out when they would arrive on a daily basis (typically mid to late morning), and what days they were going to work. We felt that could've been better communicated by him. There were also a few items we decided to add to the bathroom, and although we expected the add-on prices, the potential amounts were not explained to us. So we ended up with some 'sticker shock'. We also, unfortunately, had to filter through some defensiveness on the contractor's part, which occurred when we questioned scheduling, costs, or why things ended up a certain way. read more
