This is my favorite museum in town. They have an indoor exhibit area with the local timeline from animal in the area, native Americans and how they lived and survived, mining, and other industries including old gaming tables and machines. Outdoors they have old wooden buildings including a blacksmith, barn, jail, and old train and farming equipment along a trail. There is a train satiation and Union Pacific train car you can go into and explore. But my favorite part is the neighborhood of houses that were gathered from Las Vegas and surrounding areas and rebuilt and furnished in specific time periods. Each house explains the story of the family who originally lived there. Some houses you can explore throughout and some have most areas plexiglassed off with scenes of the family and how they would have appeared in the time period. Among the homes there is also a print shop and a chapel from downtown. Entry to see everything is only $2 for adults and $1 for children. Not only is this a fantastic museum, but it's the cheapest way to spend a few hours. read more

This is a great place to visit that is very inexpensive. They allow you to walk through houses from different decades from the last century. They are all set up to show how people lived during that time. There is a lot of information in the museum and it is well worth the $2 admission. We stopped at the visitor center and they recommended we visit this museum. We were glad we did. They have a large property with several exhibits to see. We bought some postcards in the gift shop as well. The indoor museum covers the timeline from prehistoric to modern times. Quite a bit of history on the Hoover/Boulder Dam since Boulder City is the town that built the Dam. Outside they have some desert gardens (which we didn't walk through due to the heat), a locomotive you can look at from outside, and train caboose and rail car that you can walk through. There are also some old structures and equipment from the 1800s to walk through that show times in the old west. They brought some old buildings over from other locations to set up "Heritage Street" with residences, a chapel, and other buildings. It was fun to walk through and see the mannequins on display as people who may have lived back in those times. There was even an old airstream mobile home to demonstrate how small some homes were. Definitely worth the money ($2 per adult) to make the stop. read more

Fun and inexpensive museum for kids and adults. There's portions of the museum that are inside, but most of the museum is outdoors. The history of Clark County is displayed outside with various cars, farming equipment, actual houses, and a wedding chapel (they transported) along a cute little street. The houses you can walk inside and are transported back in time. The indoor portion of the museum had Paiute Indians, mining, railroad, and gaming history displays. My little boy really liked the scavenger hunt map he was given at the front desk. The scavenger hunt map with organized by areas of the museum so it was helpful when looking for items in the booklet. There's a Mojave desert outdoor area where we were able to see several jack rabbits running around. We spent a couple hours at this museum and we're able to see almost everything and not have to rush to see everything, to give you an idea of how long it takes to get through the museum. read more

She came straight up on us rude as all can be. Didn't Even give us a chance to pay. Trust me you need our $14 because this location is run down. I called and got the same lady on the phone. Trust me. I'll call on Monday to speak with someone. Just so rude and she's representing this facility. She was an absolute _*****... if she would have approached way different and said mind paying so you can say, absolutely. NOPE she was like leave. My family and I visited this historical museum and enjoyed every minute though it was hot outside and some of the museum is outdoors. We were greeted by a friendly cashier inside the gift shop whom processed our payment to enter. The prices are reasonable: $1.00 for seniors, military and students; $2.00 for anyone not in the aforementioned categories. Once inside it is a self guided tour with plenty to see. Some of the exhibits are touchable as stated on the signs. Outside there is an outside classroom that takes you down paths in the desert trees and bushes, to a creek and a house half underground. Next there is a town complete with houses of people who lived in some of Nevada's towns from different eras complete with the car from that time. There is a printing press from Nevada's newspapers, a motor lodge that preceded the motel, a white wedding chapel and other artifacts. There is also a travel trailer showing what it looked like back in the 50's. There is a caboose and train cars along with a black coal burning train. A train station takes you back in time to what it was like to travel back in the day. Following along the trail is antique farming equipment, a barn, antique vehicles, a jail, a general store, a cemetery, a shelter made out of sagebrush and other materials, and wagons. I must say we were surprised by how large the museum is. Make sure you wear good walking shoes because there is a lot of walking involved. It's a great value for the low admission prices and an excellent history lesson. read more

It's educational, cute, and I love the little neighborhood set up.. it's a blast from the past, a window into a life from before. There is a small Mojave desert nature trail and a village with historical Vegas homes you can explore and look at from maybe the 1920s to ride 1940s. I very much enjoy exploring museums and this was a Wonderful one. I am so surprised I had not heard of or gone to the Clark County Museum sooner. I thought it was very well curated and put together! A little bit of natural history at the beginning and launches into the people of the Mojave and Las Vegas' start. There was a very neat maps exhibit at the end of the indoor museum. The exhibits outside were great too! They had old buildings and a Mojave Desert outdoor classroom. There were plenty of things to read and look at. Spent more than 2 hours here and could've easily stayed even longer. I'd recommend this for children and adults alike. I came during COVID in December and felt very safe and socially distanced. read more

Las Vegas can be an incredibly frustrating place. The Strip sucks up so much money that the rest of the metropolitan area often looks like it's feeding on the crumbs. The Clark County Museum is one such place. It's an incredibly plucky museum on the outskirts of Las Vegas that is very clearly operating on a shoestring budget. Don't let that dissuade you from visiting, though, because this museum does a better job of painting a long gone Las Vegas than casino moguls do constructing their modern faux kingdoms. There is an assemblage of old buildings, machinery, artifacts, and other memorabilia with a heavy sprinkling of mannequins. Oh, yes, mannequins. This penny-pinching museum has mannequins of various eras (and many bad wigs and hairpieces) that are used to help tell the stories. It's sincere and all very quaint but it's also quirky and notches up the entertainment value. The Mayberry-like tree-lined main street is lined with old houses, a park, a camping trailer, print shop, and a marriage chapel. If Las Vegas ever looked this good, what went wrong when time moved forward? Urban planners could take a lesson from this street. Enter the various buildings and you'll see the museum's handiwork at creating tableaus to take you back in time. It's all wonderful because there are period details at every turn. (It must be fun to play house here.) While most of the mannequins will elicit giggles, there is one in the Goumond house that's a bit dramatic: a man is sitting in the living room. His facial expression looks like he has received some devastating news. It's like a scene from a film noir movie. The craziest building is definitely the groovy chapel. It's campy inside: mannequins are attending a wedding. If this represents vintage Las Vegas then I can conclude that the locals had many bad toupees. Who knew? (At least the wedding couple looks good. Whew!) There's much more on display in the main museum building and it's just as worthwhile and entertaining. If the Clark County Museum can do this well on a $2.00 admission charge and skimpy funding, I can only imagine what they could do if they were endowed like a normal museum. read more

This is a great place to visit for the kids and there's a nice little gift shop there too! Jody Rocco was very helpful and pleasant to greet me when I visited. There were two young men working there too and showed me the different types of gem jewelry; which I love & at affordable prices too! As longtime former annual passholders to Greenfield Village/now called the Henry Ford, we are spoiled yet really enjoyed our visit yesterday. Only aware of this place thanks to "the beard of knowledge" Mark's appearances on History Channel's Pawn Stars. Nice respite from the Las Vegas Strip while getting some history on the area. Don't forget your water and sunscreen as some areas are out in the bright desert sun. Touring homes and Wedding Chapel on a shady tree lined street was a welcome relief from the heat, as well as indoor areas. Visitors Center air conditioned building included restrooms, gift shop and water fountain. Also contains October 1, 2017 Memorial area displaying a bit of the love sent to Vegas from around the world. read more

The Clark County Museum is a great place to see the houses of yesterday from the Basic Magnesium home of Henderson to the other homes of the era. Looking inside and seeing the furniture and the ways our lives have changed is quite interesting. Heritage Street is a time capsule of how we lived in the Las Vegas Valley. Make sure you spend time looking at the main museum items too. Much of this was owned by Anna Parks who was the owner of many of the items that are on display. Her collection of "stuff" from the area is marvelous and her collection of Indian baskets is superb! Enjoy the County museum. It's a bit of a drive from the western part of the Valley, but it's well worth it. While at the museum gift shop, look for a book called "Asphalt Memories" by the museum director Mark Hall-Patton. It's a small paperback book that tells you how many of the streets in the Valley got named. If you're a Las Vegas history nut, this is just the book for you. In fact, this brief visit of mine to the museum was to pick up a copy of the book to give to a friend. read more

Great stop for anyone in the area interested in history and not just the lights of the strip. Only $2 for adults and you can literally be here for a couple of hours. The staff was informative and educated about their displays and features. Inside the museum if quaint but packs a ton of info in a small space. It was very interesting to see everything from mining to the lights of Vegas come to life factually inside with so many odd facts presented throughout. Outside, buildings have been transported to the area from around Clark Count and set up to display the time of their origin to give a true walk back in time. Basically a small town all to its own including Wild West outbuildings and a small jail, homes from the era of the Hoover Dam construction and retired trains. This was a great stop for me as I just have come to the area and was seeking something a bit different! They also offer children's programs on various days. read more

Went the other day with 4 kids. Mask was required when inside. The scavenger hunt for the kids was super fun, they got to turn it in for a free treasurer once completed. The mini gift shop had adorable rocks for my girls to add to their collect at $1 each. Entrance fee was $2 for adults and $1 each for my girls, the 1yr old was free. We spent about 1 1/2hours here completing the scavenger hunt and enjoying the museum it was totally worth every penny. Problem beat to go on a day when weather is bearable as half the museum is outside. read more

Being a fan of Pawn Stars, I jumped at a chance to see the home base of the "Beard of Knowledge" aka Mark Hall-Patton when visiting Las Vegas. The bummers was that Mark wasn't around but there is a life size cutout in the lobby for those who want a photo. While there I found this was one of 3 different museums that he manages and also takes care of the Searchlight and Howard W. Cannon Aviation Museums. So he's a pretty busy but does show up once in a while. The museum was pretty interesting and like Mark, there's something for everyone from dinosaur bones to old wagons and old houses. "Old houses" you say? What could be interesting about that? They have transplanted houses that were built in the 1920's, 1930's and 1950's and filled them with era pieces. Want to see an old icebox? They have one. Want to see an old washer? They have one of those too. Want to see an old printing press? They have an entire vintage print shop. The displays are well labelled with descriptions of what one would see. There's even a Spartanette Trailer which gives a whole new meaning to the word, "compact". The main building is chockful of well set up displays with Indian artifacts and a section with old slot machines, part of a display that describes the evolution of Las Vegas. Only problem is this museum has displays outside and on a sunny day, walking around in the desert may not appeal to everyone. Bring sunscreen, sunglasses, a shady hat and good walking shoes then you'll be fine. Very nice museum and it's worth driving down to see it! read more

One of my daughter and I visited this historical museum because we had a couple of hours of free time. We were pleasantly surprised by the low fee ($2/adult), displays, and presentation. There was an indoor and outdoor sections. Due to an upcoming appointment, we only had time to see the outdoor section. It was presented as an small section of a small town. There were houses from different decades with appropriate finishings and automobiles. There were a church, newspaper publishing building, and a train station. Finally there was a huge field with cemetery, wagons and various machines. It was an educational and entertaining experience. We plan to return to finish up the tour with our next Vega visit. read more

This is a wonderful, fun place for people of all ages. If you enjoy museums and some Nevada history, I wouldn't recommend.

Had a great time visiting during kids time off from school. There was plenty of free parking. We entered the building and in the small gift shop paid for admission which is $2.00 for adults and $1.00 for kids. The cashier was extremely friendly and gave us a map, and be booklet. My history obsessed husband was super disappointed that he didn't get to meet Mr. Hall-Patton (hopefully next time). The indoor exhibit featured the history of the region's earliest settlers as well as early Las Vegas Casino memorabilia. My kids enjoyed the scale that also gave a horoscope ! The outdoor had a Ghost town, train Print Shop, Church and houses from different times relocated from around Las Vegas. The row of homes were very inviting and offered a lot of information about life during the growth of Las Vegas. My favorites were the motor homes which had the honey suckle growing outside. I must note that it was stroller friendly. There were ramps which made it easy for me to navigate with my little one. The only place I could not navigate was the train. I just left it outside for a few minutes. Also note there is only restroom located in the main building. We were there for about 2 hours and had a great time. My kids were engaged and entertained. I suggest wearing a hat, sneakers and bringing water. Most if the museum is outdoors and spaced out nicely- lots of walking. It was a great value and my family learned a lot. This place is so interesting and only $1 admission with free parking. So many artifacts to see and information to absorb. Family friendly, but younger kids under 10 may be bored unless they are into cultural activities. Plan to spend several hours which includes visiting the outside buildings. This place is a bit odd, but very entertaining for my kids and I. It is fascinating all of the older memorabilia that they have. The kids also loved going inside the train. We lost an hour and a half walking around so it's a great deal. $1 for the kids and $2 for adults. My kids were so amazed of the history and it really sparked some interesting conversations. Some people might get mad at me for saying this, but the Clark County Museum really needs to charge a higher admission fee. At $2 per adult, it's a bargain at twice the price! On my recent trip to Las Vegas, I hoped I'd get a chance to come here. I love museums, and I have seen Clark County's director, Mark Hall-Patton, on various TV shows over the years. You really get the sense that he's knowledgeable and passionate about Nevada history. The museum is made up of a main building with indoor exhibits, along with homes and other buildings that line a few streets nearby. The gift shop is small but cute. The woman working there was so sweet and friendly. Highly recommended for kids and adults alike. read more

I love this museum - it's definitely one of my favorite, if not my favorite museum. Many people don't know about it. Maybe because it's on the outskirts of town. But whatever, make the drive & go. Take your kids. Take your parents. Take your grandparents. Take anyone - it's a cool museum with some thing to interest everyone. Anyone with a mere curiosity of Nevada history will enjoy SOMETHING here. Plus, you can't beat the price ($2 or less per person). But I digress, the best way to describe this museum is like a 4 in 1 museum. Here's a break a down with expected times. If you're on a time crunch, I recommend Part 4: historic buildings. Of course your adventure could be quicker or shorter depending on your level of interest and how much you read (I'm a reader!) Part 1: Nevada history. Exhibits with signage and artifacts that take you through Nevada history. From prehistoric historic times (if you've been to Floyd Lamb State Park there are bones recovered from this park), to the Indian settlement, to the Mormon settlement, to mining (including rock/mineral samples) to the construction of the dam, to recent gaming years. You get a little bit of everything. You'll find out who our streets were named after - Gass, McCarren, Stewart, etc. You can easily spend 1-2 hours in this portion of the museum, particularly if you like to read. Shorter if you breeze through only looking at pictures. Part 2: Curators exhibit. This exhibit immediately follows the Nevada history exhibits. This portion of the museum is constantly changing, depending on what the curators want to display. There is typically a theme (casino history, people who shaped Nevada, etc) that I think they change monthly(?). This part of the museum could potentially be closed if they are transitioning between exhibits. I usually spend 30 min here, but I imagine this could be more if you were interested in the curators presentation. Part 3: Ghost town Located just behind the museum building is an amphitheater and desert trail with a ghost town. There are some old wooden buildings, a jail, a jailhouse, a replica building built by the Boy Scouts, old vehicles including a pick up truck and a caterpillar, and miscellaneous pieces of equipment from heavy machinery, mining, etc. I couldn't distinguish all of the metal objects, but they are still cool to look at and have a historical significance I'm sure. Expect to spend 30min-1 hr on this portion, meandering through things and looking. There isn't any reading on this portion. Part 4: historic buildings This is easily why I love this museum! There are several historic buildings on site that include several homes, a train, a barn, a chapel moved from the strip, and printing press equipment. All of these buildings were transported to the museum from various areas around town, most notably downtown, and were actually lived in. If you're familiar with notable family namesakes, then you may recognize some of the names. The homes will take you through the decades, and surely help you appreciate the size of your home now! In a city that loves to implode, it is really great to see people taking the time to preserve some of our physical history. If Someone only had 1 hour to spend, it should surely be on this portion of the museum! Expect to spend 1-2 hours here. The museum closes at 430, but staff begin locking the homes up closer to 4. So do this portion early. read more

A+ for this museums local historical content. It takes you on a time line adventure from the extinct wolves that used to prowl and the native tribes way of life on to the gold rush mining and then to the industrial beginings that followed. When you leave the indoor exhibits you are taken through a trail that shows examples of the native dwellings on to the first old west pioneers shacks and a wooden jail general store and then over to some examples of the railroads and then the first type of combustion engine vehicles at the end of the trail is a 1940's barn. Turn the corner to an actual relocated train station with some train cars that you can explore. The next area is a retro small neighborhood that has actual historic homes that were donated that show the progression of domestic life. From a general store/home and newspaper print shop. There are 30's 40's and 50's examples of working class all the way up to the well-to-do's of those era's. The houses are soo awesome and look like you're in Leave it to Beaver, I Love Lucy and a Cary Grant movie. The end of the block has a famous little wedding chappell that kind of wraps up the time warp as it was around since the 60's all the way up to the millennium. All this just for 2$! We all love this museum! Everytime is just as fun. read more
