With there being very limited supply of shops in WA (comparatively), it was a bit of a shock to see such outrageous pricing, horrible customer service, and minimal talent. After a few months I found modern nails and I was very happy with their service but it was a 30-minute drive for me, so I did what I thought was best and tried out a few other salons closer to me, in hopes of finding my Trifecta (talent, price, and customer service). Alas, it went horribly wrong throughout Ferndale and Bellingham, so I went crawling back to see Hannah at Modern Nails. I am kicking myself in the butt for not sticking to a tried and true technician. Hannah Is not only super sweet, but ultra talented. And I have paid much more for much less out here in the area. Moving forward it is a no-brainer, I will keep coming back! I highly recommend this shop, and Hannah specifically for acrylics, I cannot say enough about her meticulousness and eye for detail. Also, they offer these amazing complimentary beverages that are to die for, so don't be shy about asking. It's non-alcoholic, but that doesn't mean they're not fire or craft! Some of these other places I've been to offer a "mimosa" and it's literally Sunny D with flat champagne (yuck), At Modern Nails they are serving up virgin cocktails in styyyyle and fancy coffee beverages. With their talent and customer service, it's just a wonderful experience.

I chose white, but I kept telling her there was bubbles on the nails, so she would scrub off the top layer and put it on again. It was the white color that had the bubbles in the majority of the nails . She was careless in filing off the top layer and it hurt! I told her I had to go, and asked them not to charge for gel... and they refused! I paid $95 and left, frustrated and upset. After getting in my car, I realize the nails have weird shapes and completely uneven! I had to refile them to get them shaped and even when I got home. I can't wait to get them soaked off as the bubbles are driving me nuts!

My sister scheduled a French manicure for herself and our mother prior to her wedding. My sister assumed she'd gotten the timing written into her calendar wrong, but she did call at 10am, just to make sure she wasn't expected at 10:30. At 10:55, she received a call from Mane Styles, saying that she had missed her 10:30 appointment, and that rather than having parallel manicures, they had booked the two appointments back-to-back. They said they only had the 11:30 slot open now, and no other manicure spots were available the whole day. My sister was nearly in tears on the phone, as she had counted on this relaxing time with mom and had wanted to gift my mom with some hand care for all the hard work she'd done prior to the wedding. My mom's hands are arthritic and painful, and this was something my sister really had planned on giving her. The person on the phone then started asking additional questions about the type of manicure my sister wanted, although she had already answered those questions when making the appointment--a regular French-tip manicure. The person started quoting different prices for gel, regular polish, and pushing my sister for decisions on the phone. This is not the kind of "service" a bride needs 2 days before the wedding. They went in to the appointment anyway, and my mom got to sit and watch as my sister got her manicure. I told them to cancel altogether and see if there was a walk-in appointment somewhere else, but they went anyway. My sister's nails looked fine, not great, and the nail tech wasn't apologetic at all and offered no compensation for the mistake.
