Mendota fireplace wouldn't start - Rob came as scheduled (even a bit early) and found board needed to be replaced. Very professional, pleasant and even cleaned the glass so it looks like new! - Thanks! read more

We have a gas-insert in our wood fireplace. Would not light via the remote. Robb took his time, diagnosed the problem, ordered the necessary parts to fix the problem, and then came back and fixed the issue. He knows his stuff. He works carefully and cleans up any mess. Highest recommendation possible. read more

Rib is wonderful. He installed our fireplace 20 years ago and has been twice to fine tune and fix things like a bird in the chimney ! and more recently, to fix an ignition problem. read more

Robb was great. We hadn't used our gas fireplace before and asked for a routine service. He was friendly, thorough and knowledgeable, while servicing he explained in detail how to operate and maintain in the future. We'll contact them again for our next service. read more

Clappers came to check on our Napoleon ventless fireplace. Kenn immediately noticed the problem and set about cleaning the pilot valve. He arrived on time, was informative and knowledgable. He cleaned the entire fireplace and had it up and running- better than ever. I highly recommend Clapper's. read more

Very friendly owner. Used them to install two fireplaces. Would certainly recommend them to anyone.

Our Lennox gas fireplace has been acting funny it goes off and on on its own. We have never serviced the fireplace in over 10 years. I found Clappers and read all the great reviews about Robb. He returned my call promptly and scheduled the appointment. Robb was on time for our appointment. He cleaned the parts, cleaned the glass and painted the top that was peeling due to the heat. He said it must not have been treated with heat tolerant paint. He made sure all the rocks were set properly and added additional embers...It looks beautiful and brand new. I also asked about a remote control. He happens to have one handy and installed. Robb was very professional and I would highly recommend him. read more

Robb is an amazing person and he provided an incredible service to get my gas fireplace working again. He was neat upon entering the home and was very polite and friendly. He laid down a drop cloth where he was working. He was able to expertly diagnose the problem with my fireplace unit and was able to fix two problems that my unit had. He made sure the unit was working properly before leaving and charged a very fair price. He is a very nice man and you can tell that providing top quality service and having a happy customer are important to him. I highly recommend Robb. read more

I cannot say enough good things about Rob and his expertise and attitude. We had been chasing a fireplace repair for almost two years (a plumber offered a diagnosis, which was wrong), and Rob responded to my query immediately and connected with my son who lives in the property where the fireplace issue was. Rob was not only so competent but also exceedingly honest when he discovered that an existing part merely needed tightening, so we didn't have to purchase an elusive part for our Lennox gas fireplace. My son also reported that Rob was so very nice. Extremely appreciative of and impressed with Rob. Coda: I know a lot of plumbers consider themselves to be competent to fix a gas fireplace, but Rob has a special certification to repair fireplaces, which makes a HUGE difference. read more

Robb was wonderful! Quick to reply to my inquiry and was able to come look at the fireplace the following week. Very reasonable and fair pricing too! He went above and beyond the repair, cleaned the fireplace, gave a fresh coat of paint, etc. He was also able to hook up our fireplace to a remote control. Cannot recommend Robb enough! So thankful he was able to help. read more

Clappers installed a Mendota insert in our house few years ago. I called for service, and also to fix the freezing draft coming through in the winter (front of fireplace literally frost when sub zero outside). He did not show up. Thanks pal for costing me a half day of vacation. Called again and he said he did not make it because he lost my cell #. Scheduled a 2nd appointment. And again he never showed up. Funny now that I think of it, how he pretended to double check my cell and write things down in his calendar and all that BS. Yes, he is that kind of person. Very much like another reviewer, I found out that having service done on a fireplace by another store is "not a thing" in Mass. I called En-R-Gy, Commonwealth fireplace and Natick Fireplace: "No Sir, we don't touch someone else fireplace". What is this, the 1970s NY arbor crew? OK, so what do I do now? I emailed Mendota (no phone number) describing all this, and they send me an email referring me to Commonwealth. So, they don't care either. If you buy a fireplace from this store, just know that when this guy leave your house with the check, its the last time you will see him. And you will have to learn how to clean up the valve and adjust the pilot lamp, because apparently free market does not apply to the fireplace business, for some obscure reasons. DL read more

This is an update to my last review. I called Robb this year for service. He answered the phone and did come out to my house. He was very apologetic for the situation that occurred a couple of years ago. I understand his situation from the past. He truly is a very nice person. In addition, is very knowledgeable and takes pride in what he does. He is very busy and I well understand why. If he can fit you into his busy schedule, you are among the lucky! I am fortunate that he found time to come out to me this year! Thank you, Robb! read more

Amazing service! We needed our gas fireplace repaired, and after a different shop in town went silent on us, I contacted Clapper's. Rob was able to come out within a few days and fix our issue quickly. Besides being efficient, he's also a really nice guy. I was having trouble finding our fireplace remote, but holding a newborn so I couldn't dig through boxes. Rob came down to the cellar with me and helped me find it, while being very respectful of our home. Highly recommend! read more

We started our search asking people in our community who had a new fireplace insert installed. Were they happy with the product, vendor and service? Sadly nobody replied with an overwhelming endorsement. So we expanded our search to companies outside our area. That's when I found Clapper's on Yelp. Robb came to our house; we went over the brochures, he measured our fireplace and scheduled the ONE DAY INSTALLATION. On installation day we had the beginnings of a 2-day snow storm. Robb coordinated the plumber, electrician, and high wire acrobat (who climbed to the very top of our chimney). We did not need to subcontract anything. All details were handled by Robb. When our insert kit arrived (short one light bulb), Robb announced he had to go out and get one. We pleaded with him to drop the bulb off on a day he would not be risking life and limb to drive through this snow storm. He returned the following day and completed the job. We are pleased with the product, the service and Robb. Check how cheap I am with giving out a perfect review. He's that good. read more

Robb is incredible! He installed a new gas insert for me in an old condo in Brookline. He was able to order me a custom surround to make the dimensions work with permitting requirements and work with my plumber who installed the gas line to make sure everything was done properly. He was extremely responsive, friendly, and very knowledgable. He went above and beyond in every aspect, even working with the inspector for the gas permit to make sure it was approved. Highly recommend! read more

Been meaning to write this review for a while. I'd highly recommend Robb and Clapper's for your fireplace. I started out getting estimates from a couple other places and I wasn't overly impressed. The other companies wanted me to take all the measurements myself and didn't have any real knowledge about the efficiency of the units they sold. Robb (from Clapper's), on the other hand, came out a couple days after calling to take measurements and answer all my questions. He was friendly and knowledgeable about efficiency and helped me decide on a Mendota. The installation went smoothly considering all the delays that many other companies are having. The fireplace has been great, looks beautiful, and still going strong after 3 months. read more

Robb has serviced our gas fireplaces in two different homes. Our first fireplace, a Mendota, would constantly die after a few minutes of operation. The original dealer was unable to fix it, and it remained a mystery for a year until we found Robb. He quickly diagnosed the problem, and then re-designed the chimney components to fix it. Our new home came with a Majestic brand fireplace. Though it's not a brand he normally supports, we didn't want to work with anyone else, and he has done a great job with maintenance and repairs. He's reliable, responsive, and cost-conscious. Highly recommended. read more

Excellent to work with....friendly ,professional, and, very knowledgeable Communication and follow through are flawless.... Extremely satisfied with my gas insert. read more

Robb was super. Very easy to work with, and aims to please. We had an old gas log set in the house we bought. It was inefficient and the remote had been broken for a while. We upgraded to a new Mendota gas fireplace. I am quite picky about the final look of things, and Clappers did not disappoint. A custom made black steel surround was part of the price. Great job. We have loved the fireplace this winter. read more

I did not even get my fireplace at Clappers. I got it at Black Magic Fireplace but they were so awful to deal with, when I had a problem,I did not want to go back to them. I needed help. I called Clapers and they walked me through what I needed to do over the phone. Amazing customer service. read more

We were very pleased to work with Rob Scagnetti at Clappers. He was knowledgeable, listened to what we wanted, and made excellent design suggestions that all resulted in a very beautiful gas fireplace that is enhancing our living space. In addition, he was knowledgeable about the process, including the different trades' professionals that would be required. He wrote a clear proposal and did exactly what he said, so that it came in on budget and on time. He was always on time at appointments, either at his showroom or at our home. While we knew he was busy, we felt he gave us the undivided time we needed. We heard about Rob from a high recommendation of our neighbor and are happy to recommend him, as well. read more

Robb did an awesome job on a Valor gas fireplace two years ago. Since then, I've referred him to several friends and two others also got fireplaces through Clappers. We're all incredibly pleased. I live in Cambridge and went to Robb after the two closest fireplace dealers showed zero interest in my business, since they seemed to get plenty of business just by having a nice location. So, I bucked the curve and reached out to Robb in Sudbury. The product is the same product, but the service from Clappers is from another dimension of customer support. He always answers my calls, or calls right back. I've asked him questions throughout the time since I've gotten this fireplace, and he's always responded immediately and never even tried to charge me for the help. But most telling, he's always trying to come back to make a housecall and troubleshoot on the spot. I mean, whenever I ask him a question, he always offers to drive over and help you in person. Really the best service, period. And the fireplace I got from him is as great as he said it would be. I felt compelled to write this review after I just now saw Clappers' mediocre Yelp rating. I just can't stand to see Robb with such a low overall rating. He was one of the last people I dealt with at the end of a massive gut rehab, and among all the vendors, contractors, and sellers I worked with, he's one of the best, hands down. read more

I have removed my previous yelp as this company has deserves to have a rewrite. After my yelp they reached out to me and corrected the problem very graciously. I am pleased to say that I would recommend them to a friend. read more

We finally decided to convert our wood burning fireplace to a gas fireplace insert.I did as much research as I could but there was not a lot out there that was meaningful. We listed all the places that sold inserts within a 15 mile radius and went to visit them. Some looked good and others not so much. Our last stop was Clappers and boy were we in for a treat. By the time that we left, Robb had answered all of our questions with a casual expert voice. One more day and I researched the Mendota insert line and found it to be the finest available.Robb came to our house for the measurment and again in his casual expert voice gave us some great suggestions including a custome face for the fireplace. Within 3 weeks Robb and his crew installed our beautiful and functional fireplace. Recently, our 1st floor furnace needed repair and it was broken for 1 week because of a factory part needed. The Mendota fireplace insert heated our first floor with no trouble. It was hard to tell that we did not have a working furnace.FANTASTIC!!! read more

I have been a customer of Clapper's since the early 1990s when it was in Newton. Purchased Teak outdoor dining set that I finally just gave to a family member. It lasted all these year and then some. Robb has now been installing and maintaining my 3 gas fireplaces. His work is perfection. Robb is always always responsive, on time and efficient. Above all he is reasonably priced for the time and effort he gives a job. He takes great pride in his company and takes good care of his customers and his products are the very best. Thank you Robb for your dedication to your job and to your customers. read more

I needed a fire place for my architecture office, and talked to many people. Robb is the only guy that asked if he can come and see the place. In order to deliver the best service, he wanted to know the details. Way more useful than all the I talked to. He was on time, offered clear suggestions, oversaw the installation himself. He knows we are concerned with aesthetics and function, and he made sure everything we planned worked out great. Big recommendation from my side. read more

My wife and I looked around at various fireplace shops but when we went to Clapper's we were very impressed. We not only found the best insert that we'd seen but Robb was fantastic! He was great to work with, he coordinated one day installation with him, plumber and electrician coordinated by him and he stands behind his work completely and wants everything to be perfect. The fireplace looks amazing and I couldn't be more satisfied with the work that Robb does. read more

Clappers is terrific. We were in the market to replace our fireplace doors and stopped by the showroom in Sudbury late one Saturday. After visiting some other fireplace showrooms it was a no brainer to purchase our beautiful Stoll doors from Clappers. Clapper's great service, delivery and product line exceeded our expectations. read more

We couldn't be more pleased with our Clapper's fireplace! It's beautiful to look at (very realistic) and it really takes the chill off on a cold night. The only thing better than this wonderful fireplace is the top-notch service and attention to detail we received from Robb and Wes at Clapper's. They are reliable, courteous and very knowledgable...a genuine pleasure to deal with. The whole experience was so positive we didn't even consider working with anybody else when we wanted to install another fireplace in our Nantucket home. Robb and Wes did a fantastic job installing that fireplace too! I recommend a gas fireplace to anybody who likes the warmth and glow of a cozy fire but is tired of the mess and hassle of burning wood, but most importantly I recommend that you get your gas fireplace from nobody but Clappers. read more

I build luxury homes and have tried many gas fireplace companies. Clappers is simply the best in the Boston area. These guys were terrific! After visiting their beautiful showroom in Sudbury, we contacted Robb and from there the project was seamless. He came to our home, took measurements and gave us options. He and his crew did everything they said they would do within the expected time frame (actually even less than what was originally estimated). His crew was fantastic - kind, friendly and so easy to have in the house. I honestly could not say enough about them and would highly recommend them to anyone. The fireplace looks fabulous and now that the cold weather is coming, we are excited to use it! read more

This was our second experience with Clappers. We had a second gas fireplace installed in a two family house in Belmont. Our experience the second time mirrored our first experience: truly excellent company to deal with. Rob and his crew went out of their way to make sure that every aspect of the purchase and installation of this second gas fireplace would go as smoothly as possible. When difficulties occurred, as they inevitably will, Rob and Paul, and Marc persisted and solved them. This crew is profession, neat, courteous, and respectful. No, I am not related to any of them! But they treat you like family and stand behind their work 100%. Five stars is probably not a high enough rating for this company. read more

I found Robb through a contractor who did a lot of work in my home. I'd gone to a few showrooms and made a few more calls before reaching out to my contractor for a recommendation. I was frankly scared by the lack of knowledge of people selling these things. Not ONE asked me for the dimensions of the room I was looking to install in, and given that it was a small room with very low ceilings, I was nervous about installing a large unit.. When I called Robb he had a job a few towns away the next Saturday and offered to stop by after. Very impressed. None of the others would come to my house until after I made a decision. Robb provided great service and I've been very pleased with the product. Two things, I wound up using my own plumber who is certified to do gas work and I highly recommend you get someone you trust to do that. When I expressed my concern about gas explosions, he told me most of the problem come from the way people install it and materials used. Second thing is that everyone else I spoke to recommended an electric component to circulate the hot air - no question. Robb told me my room was so small he didn't feel I needed it. I don't. Saved me several hundred dollars... read more
