Customer service needs improvement. A worker told my two nieces to go outside and stop walking in and out. When in fact. They were shopping with us in the store. I told my niece to pick something because it was her birthday. When I overheard the worker tell them to stay outside. I told her that was rude and that they were with shopping with me. And she said it was not rude. Unfortunately. I didnt not want to stay a buy something for my niece and daughter since I felt like the worker did not care for our business. read more

My daughter visited Claire's to get her ears pierced for the first time and I would like to compliment Bella. She was really helpful when explaining the different types of earring material. If I could give zero stars I would. I came here today with my 4 year old daughter and 8 year old niece. My niece loves this store and always takes her time when we are here. So with that being said, I usually walk around and window shop. Today, one of their employees was "stalking" us as we were in the store. She was the elder Hispanic lady with glasses. She proceeded to follow us from behind the cash register, stood between the tower of merchandise, and inserted herself whenever I would say something to my daughter. I didn't think anything of it at the time, but as we walked out, AFTER I PAID FOR THE ITEMS, she hovered over them and said "Did they pay for that?" Of course they didn't pay for that. They are only 4 and 8, you asshole. I paid for it. I looked back at her and asked her what she said to them and she repeated "Did they pay for that?" And I waived the receipt in her face and said "Are you looking for this!" And she walked away without saying a word. It's disgusting that she would even ask if they paid for it seeing there were other kids/people in the store. Not sure if I got racially profiled, but I'm not going to give this store any more of my money. Didn't see her hover over any other customers. No thank you, Claire's. read more

Made appointment online and got one of the earliest appointments the next day. Paige took her time to explain everything to us while also helping out other customers. Very efficient! I thought the online price was cheaper but she patiently looked through the website with me and showed me the pricing was for one stud. Ooops! I wanted the pair so the pricing at the store is correct. She also took the time to make sure the piercing was lined up correctly and made multiple changes per my suggestions. Very good service with Paige so ask for Paige for piercing. If you get a piercing, it's 20% off the entire purchase so take some time to browse around. read more

Paige pierced my daughters ears and she was very patient. She wore gloves and made sure everyone sanitized their hands. She took her time and was very careful with the placement of the piercings. Afterwards she explained how to clean the area and had us do it to make sure we understood. All of this while being very nice and friendly. Thanks Paige! read more

I'm not sure what her name is but the older lady with black hair was rude! The way she was talking to her coworker made me so uncomfortable. Right when I walked in, she yelled at me "buy 1 get 1 free" like what happened "hello, how are you?" Weird. Her energy was off putting. I made a yelp account just so I could make this review. Been coming here over the years to buy cheap earrings for myself or others. The last time I came here was before Halloween to buy the last accessory for my costume. One of the girls who rang me up..who I was shocked to find out that she was an assistant manager was so not customer-service friendly. She did not greet me or even thank me even after I said thank you, and the whole time during the transaction she was talking to one of her co-workers about some guy or whatever. I've worked in retail for many years; it's okay to talk to your co-workers but you need to acknowledge the customer you have in front of you. I went back today with one of my friends because she wanted to pick up some stuff and it seems like things have gotten worse. Assistant managers were drinking at the register in front of a fat line of customers and gossiping and screaming across the place. And I think it was the store manager who was pretty much doing all the screaming and acting goofy, thought most of the time I see her she sees more attentive towards customers. I know that it's mostly pre-teen and teen girls that shop at Claire's but store employees should still act professional regardless. It still gets two stars for the little girls out there who want and need cheap earrings and jewelry, and because one of the assistant managers who rang up my friend today was actually nice to her, unlike the one I got a few months ago. read more

The best claires in the bay. Many people I know would agree with me. This store has great selection and it's pretty big so not as crowded as others . Very nice service and genuine people. Some stores you just don't really like the associates you know? But here they are always great read more

Melissa who pierced my child's ears WORST ATTITUDE I have seen in my life. I have no idea why this person is even employed. The store must be desperate. Besides her attitude she tried to sell us $300 earrings claiming if diamonds are not real your ears will get infected despite the earrings being real gold. If you want a nice experience getting your child's ears pierced avoid this place. There are even a local moms groups who talk about this horrible employee and her attitude. read more

If I could give this store a zero rating I would. The worst experience ever getting a piercing done. Horrible customer service, consumer experience from when I walked in until we left the store. Store manager does not lead her sales people (Melissa), super lazy and disgruntled. Piecing girl was nice enough but up charged me on the liquid since they had run out of the cheaper Claire's liquid ($15.00). The earrings I first chose were out of stock (2mm gold), then my second choice (2mm silver) was also out of stock so I had to settle on 3mm silver which cost $20.00 dollars more. Total charge $98.00 On top of all this the store is challenging to maneuver with a stroller, it is not ADA compliant, and it's completely filled to the brim with cheap toys etc. On top of all this we arrived to the store 7mins before our appointment window. Had to wait over 20mins past our appointment time since they had just sat down a new born with her parents whom were a walk-in. Finally the cashier who rang us up had no personality, when I asked for the store managers name she was hesitant, asked why then mumbled 'Melissa' it truly was the most bazaar experience ever. Completely regret going to this location, would never recommend for ear piercing. Reached out to corporate three weeks ago when this took place and have yet to hear back from the market manager. read more

Looking through some of the other reviews here, I see my experience today wasn't unique! Wish I'd checked Yelp before making and going to a piercing appointment here. And based on those other reviews, I now believe what happened to me was a deliberate scam attempt, not just poor employee training and a lack of good info on the Claire's website. So, I showed up for my appointment today about 5 minutes early, planning to get my third piercing in both earlobes, which I've wanted to do for a long time. I was glad to see the two visible employees were wearing masks, though one was wearing it under her nose. The website, which I'd checked thoroughly before making the appointment, said that piercing was free with purchase of a piercing kit, and their lowest-priced kit was $28.99 - a stainless steel 3mm ball stud, with their regular Ear Care Solution. However, after I'd pointed out the correct stainless steel stud on the display, mentioning it was "the $30 one," and filled out the long electronic form on the heavy tablet using just my finger, as they had no stylus, the employee told me the kit I'd selected was $38.99. I told her that on the website it had shown the price as $28.99; she said that that was just for ordering it online, not including a piercing. I told her no, it specifically said that piercing was free with purchase of the kit. She said it was more expensive because it included the aftercare solution. I said no, that was supposed to be included in the listed price. During this time I was trying to pull up the info on the Claire's website on my phone to show her, but every page was loading really slowly. The employee kept telling me the same things, acting like I just didn't know what I'd seen and decided on getting via their website, and not even curious about what I was trying to pull up on my phone. Finally she got the other employee, apparently a supervisor, and by that time I'd successfully gotten the right web page to load, and showed her the price of $28.99. She said, "Oh, that's for the kit with the regular solution, not the Rapid After Care Cleanser." I said, "Yes, exactly, that's the one I said I wanted." And then she said they were out of stock on the regular solution. I said that I really wished it had shown that on the website when I booked my appointment for that kit. She didn't offer any other resolution aside from charging me for the higher-priced kit. So I said I guessed I wouldn't be getting that piercing today, and left. Neither of them said a word of apology or seemed to care at all that I'd wasted my time and gas to come to that appointment for nothing. I walked out feeling very disappointed and frustrated, but thinking it was just a matter of a lack of good training and a badly designed booking process. But as I said at the beginning, now that I've seen some similar experiences other people have had, this really looks to me like a purposeful "bait and switch" scam, where you're drawn into the store with the advertisement of a low price, and then once you've invested your time and energy in getting there and filling out their forms and everything, they tell you the low-priced one is out of stock and you'll have to buy the more expensive one. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Claire's ends up with a class action lawsuit on their hands sometime soon. The one upside to this experience is that I am probably better off waiting and paying a bit more at a professional piercing studio with people who know what they're doing and care about their reputation. read more

Oh Claire's... I, too, have frequented this location for at least a decade now from my youth until somewhat recently. It's a staple location at the mall but not really for any reason other than being the place that girls + teeny-boppers go to get their cheapo-quality girly goods... hair accessories, kiddy make-up, cutesy earrings, cell-phone dangles, keychains, etc. At large, Claire's is known as one of the most popular places to get your ears pierced because it's a convenient location, + they will do it for the cost of a pair of their starter earring studs, which varies depending on what kind of metal / stone you want. Waaay back when I had my ears pierced, it was w/ some surgical steel w/ cubic zirconium studs for about $36. Not too bad + my piercings turned out fine. They're fairly dependable for having a little bit of everything, but don't count on any of it being quality goods. I come here now of days because I need allergy-safe earrings, which aren't too easy to come by without having to pay a good chunk of change for pure-metal earrings at other stores. The "sensitive solutions" that they have here are of good enough variety that I can find what I want for about $7 a pair, but they only last a few months before they either break or start turning funny colors due to the poor quality of the metal. And as Cat C says, the service is not professional at all. The same ladies have worked that store for years now + their mediocre, negligent standards of customer service have never changed... consisting primarily of hanging around the register + not actively being helpful or friendly to the customers at any extent. Totally frustrating experience at Claire's today . We arrived and immediately started the application to get our 8 year old daughters ears pierced. There was one customer ahead of us that was getting her ears pierced at that time. I noticed that the girl piercing the customers ears was very sweet, but very chatty and took a long time to finish. We were next and another employee helped us pick out the earrings for our daughter. While we were waiting, a young teenager, her friend and her mother arrived . A manager asked the employee who was helping us which customer was next and the employee said the young teenager. She then proceeded to take the other customer to the piercing area and began to pierce her ears. She took about a half hour, chatting, posing for pictures and giggling with her apparent friend while we waited. Shame on me for not saying anything, but management might need to conduct some training regarding focus, efficiency (especially with a busy crowd) , and most importantly, customers are not blind. Two stars for the employee that ended up piercing my daughters ears. (Young blond with short hair), otherwise no stars for our experience today. read more

I took my 5 months old baby there to have her ears pieced. They were great! They took the time to do it just right. Very professional and friendly. I took my other daughter to the Claire's at Tanforan a couple of years ago, and had a VERY bad experience. They had to redo the piercing but they managed to mess it up a second time. I haven't worn earrings in approximately 6-10 years (i use to have an ear infection) throughout my childhood which gave me a bad experience. I currently decided to get my ears done again. Mykkala was such a great consultant. She definitely did describe the feeling of the piercing (i am a baby when it comes to needles) but she provided great customer service and words of encouragement. I am NEVER going back to this store. I was ready to pay, but there was no one at registry. I stood there for a couple minutes to find one employee was talking to others who looked like her friends. I went to ask her if I could pay, but she said she would get back to me only with finger gesture while she didn't stop chatting. She shouted out to call some name who did not show up, either. Rude and disrespectful to customers. I was literally standing there and ended up just leaving. A ear piercing trip foiled by an unfriendly and uncaring sales associate. Meh! Not quite sure what happened this morning, Sunday, August 26th when I called to inquire about ear piercing for my daughter. First, I couldn't get anyone to answer the phone for 30+ minutes starting at 11 am. Finally someone answered at 11:30 am and unfortunately did not identify who they were. I asked if anyone would be in the store who could do the ear piercing today and she replied, "Yes - we do ear piercing." Hmmm, that was not my question, I am already aware of this and wanted to verify that someone would be there before I made the trip to Hillsdale. She then caught on and replied, "Yes and anyone in the store can do ear piercing." Great - now we are getting somewhere right?! Heh heh I then go on to ask if they have all been doing the procedures for a long time and she replied, " Yea, sort of." Ummm OK, so that's a yes or no?? I found the following advice on an unrelated website, "Find out when the piercer was trained and how many piercings she does in an average day. Ideally, choose someone who's been performing at least three to five piercings per day for a year." That's what I was attempting to do, but apparently the associate didn't think it was important. At this point I decided that her lack of professionalism on the phone was a definite red flag and not someone that I was going to allow to shoot an earring through my daughter's ear. If she couldn't be confident in telling me how long each person has been been with the store and performing the procedure then how could I trust her to be confident in the ability to provide my daughter with the care needed if something should go wrong--now I realize the likely hood of that happening if pretty slim, but these are the things parents need to be cognizant of when making a decision that does have an impact on their health. I've read plenty of reviews of children having problems beyond infections. So I thank her politely and she hangs up on me!! Not even a thank you! Yea - that validated my decision to not visit this Claire's location EVER again and that's sad cause we've been coming here for at least the past 12 years. I would have to agree with other reviewers about something being wrong with the customer service. A great sales associate would have either explained the training each team member has had or if they weren't able to, put me in touch with someone that could. In addition, a great sales associate would have invited me into the store to increase the likely hood that I would go through with the procedure and in return purchase other merchandise at the same time right?!?! My daughter and her Aunt will just find somewhere else to have this done. I read about tattoo shops being safer for ear piercing anyways, as they can fully sterilize the needle, as opposed to Claires that uses the gun method. Piercing guns are usually made with plastic and cannot be sterilized in an autoclave. How much are they learning in a 2 week training course anyways?? It's surprising how far a little customer service can go or is it? Shouldn't it be expected that when I say thank you to a sales associate they should meet my thank you and raise it with, you're welcome?! read more

I went to Claire's to get my ears double-pierced. I'd had a previous experience with Claire's back in the early 2000s, but I was eager to see what it would be like as an adult. I shouldn't have worried. The moment I walked in, I was greeted by friendly staff and some bumpin' tunes. At about 150 beats per minute, the pulse of the store's loud music matched my own as I thought about the tiny gold harpoons that would soon be shot through the white whales of my earlobe flesh. There was even a cheery sign declaring that SHOPLIFTERS WILL BE PROSECUTED. It was so fun to feel like a preteen again and get to relive the best years of my life! The store's color palate was entirely pastel with splashes of neon pink here and there. It clearly adhered to typical gendered color divisions, with a small section of camo rubber bracelets (think Livestrong before Lance was discredited) for the brothers who'd doubtless been dragged along. The friendliness of the staff channeled my nerves to excitement. We were helped by Elisa and Princess Theresa. Elisa immediately told me that my eyes were "very nice, attractive, cool-strange." She noted that "people pay a lot of money to wear that color [as contact lenses]." "Hey, Theresa, check out her eyeballs!" she called to her colleague. Theresa had come from her other job as a ballgown-wearing, ear-piercing royal. While waiting my turn, I got into the spirit, browsing the merchandise and impulse-purchasing a case of glittery eye shadow ("Eye Glitz")! There was one section of the store casually dedicated to cultural appropriation. However, not being Native American myself, I did not have a problem with it, but I could see how some people might be offended. As a side note, all the prices were in Canadian dollars as well, which I did find very off-putting. I then filled out a bunch of release forms waiving my right to sue in case of botched piercing, or death. Be sure you read the forms they give you carefully if you're not the only pre-teen or pre-tender in the store. At one point, there was only one clipboard in circulation and I accidentally initialed on someone else's forms. I could have been consenting to a labia piercing on some little girl's behalf for all I knew! But I was in luck, they only do ear piercings (I asked): no noses, eyebrows, nips, or gages. Finally it was my turn. The piercing station was located just to the right of the store's main entrance. The only drawback was that there wasn't much privacy, which I noticed when I almost burst into tears from fear. Princess Theresa of the Small Feet assured me the instruments and posts were sterile and gamely tried to draw the dots larger to approximate the size the stone would be in my ear when I asked. "I am satisfied," I told her. The gun made a noise like a little stapler. Apparently they haven't done any R&D since 1999. On my second ear, Princess Theresa was almost jostled by a very rude woman who was walking into the store as Theresa was piercing on the left side, rude! I could have been blinded! But the princess wasn't to blame, the store layout was. Theresa (by now I felt we were on more intimate terms) handed me a mirror. "It looks perfect!" I said. I walked out a satisfied customer, feeling both more youthful and more beautiful. 5 stars! read more

I just had my daughter's birthday party here and I have to praise the staff for being amazing from the very beginning of the party planning process to the very end of the party. Marjorie who is the event coordinator is the sweetest that goes above and beyond. I didn't get the name of all the staff but each one of them were good and very helpful. With our super busy schedule it just wasn't possible but my one biggest recommendation is to have your party on a Sunday morning when the store is closed. I had no idea how busy the store gets but between our party in the back and all the customers they had coming and going it was crowded the entire time we were there. But with that said, they let the girls run around the store to do a scavanger hunt, dance and be loud with no limitations. I think I was more worried than the staff when it came to that. At times, I had thought that this party might not turn out so well but in the end the girls had a good time and enjoyed having a different party venue. read more

I recently purchased labret and tongue piercing jewerly at a claires location in St.Johns, Newfoundland. Let me start with the labret piercings. I had a pack of 5. While trying to change it, not one but two of the balls to the jewelry split in half. I wasnt impressed; another was already stripped and i realized that when it felt loose as soon as i had it on. I could haul the ball off with pure ease. Out of the pack of 5 i had only 2 good ones to use. For my tongue i like the metal jewelry, especially the colored ones. I had the regular one in with no colors and i decided to add the pink metallic ones. After 5 minutes of having it in i felt the surface get rough. When i looked at it about 60 percent of the paint was off and i swallowed it. I immediately got sick and changed it right away to the regular metal one. Im not impressed at all for the price ive had to pay. I was going to order real jewelry online but i was in st johns at the time and decided to try out the claires jewelry... which was a bad idea clearly! Probably wont buy anymore unless something like the quality or anything along those lines changes! Sorry if this was a bit harsh but im very very disappointed! I took my daughter here to get her ears re-pierced after they had closed up six months ago. (Costume earrings had caused a reaction and created a really bad infection.) I had looked for a local place that does ear piercing, but times have changed and it seems that not that many places do it. So it was off to the mall and Claire's. Other reviewers are correct that the staff here are not the warmest, but as far as ear piercing goes they are professional and efficient. They found that one of the earring holes had not quite closed yet, and marked the second ear to line the piercing up evenly. DD picked a cute pair of piercing studs from the selection. The assistant manager who performed the piercing was matter-of-fact and told my daughter that it would sting but not too bad. I signed my name several times on the waver they require, then the piercing went lickity split. She then explained the aftercare in detail and gave us instructions and disinfectant. I think her confidence and businesslike manner actually helped DD not to be too nervous. One star off because Mom could have used a couple more smiles from the staff! read more

I didn't catch the cashier's name and I wish I did! but she was horrible. I'm only giving one star because she did greet me when I walked in. But a few seconds later I changed my mind and said "oh actually yes I would." And she just gave me a blank stare as saying like "really ??" I was like um okay... there wasn't anybody else in the store either so there was really no rush. and when i paid, I had other things in my hands so I couldn't unfold the cash I was paying with and she just rolled her eyes and unfolded the cash with attitude. Didn't even say have a good day or anything after I finished paying and said thank you. It was still near opening time so I don't know why she was already acting that way.
