She designed unique railings which helped define our patio space, chose comfortable and affordable furniture, and helped guide the much-needed change from an asphalt to an aggregate (concrete) driveway. We are very happy with the low care desert landscape. She encouraged us to spend extra money on a new locally made metal door, and to forego other changes we were considering that (I now realize) would have been a waste of money. We get a ton of compliments on our new bright green bench (made from recycled bottles) and our custom door! Kathryn was always available, and saw the work through from design to fabrication to installation. The contractors she introduced to complete the project were also a pleasure to work with. Kathryn brings enthusiasm and energy to the table, and is very talented. We were so happy with the work she did outside for us that we found some smaller indoor projects for her to help us with as well. She has been beyond fair with the pricing. Our experience with Kathryn Pirdeux was absolutely unacceptable and, frankly, one of the worst…read moreexperiences we have had with any professional involved in our home project. I would strongly caution anyone considering hiring her to think very carefully before paying her any money. The entire process dragged on endlessly. It took an unreasonable amount of time just to receive the landscape design, and throughout that process there was virtually no meaningful discussion with us about what we wanted, how the design was evolving, or whether it actually reflected our vision for the property. When the design was finally delivered, after all that time and expense, we found the overall quality to be substandard and nowhere close to what we expected from someone presenting herself as a professional landscape designer. What was especially frustrating was the constant focus on billing. It felt as though every conversation, every minute, and every interaction meant another charge. We were paying and paying while seeing very little meaningful progress or value in return. In our experience, collecting fees seemed to be handled with far more urgency than actually delivering a thoughtful, high-quality landscape design. Even worse, after taking our money, we were essentially left high and dry. There was no proper collaborative review of the final landscape plan with us and, to our knowledge, no submission of the landscape plans to the HOA. We were left wondering exactly what we had paid all this money for. This is not remotely the level of professionalism we expected for a custom home project. A professional designer should listen to the client, communicate, collaborate, provide timely work, produce a design commensurate with the fees being charged, and follow the project through. Our experience with Kathryn was the opposite: excessive delays, poor communication, constant billing, a disappointing design, and ultimately no satisfactory completion of the work. The most upsetting part is that we trusted her with an important and expensive part of our home and paid her expecting professional service. Instead, we were left with an enormous sense that we had spent a significant amount of money and received remarkably little in return. I would absolutely not hire Kathryn Pirdeux again, and I cannot recommend her based on our experience. Anyone considering working with her should insist on a detailed written scope, specific deliverables, firm deadlines, a clear limit on billable time, responsibility for HOA submissions, and defined payment milestones before paying anything. Our biggest regret is that we did not walk away sooner.

When I moved to Tucson, my incredibly ugly and embarrassingly unusable kitchen was my number one…read morepriority for an overhaul. I would include photos of that disaster here but your eyes would hurt. I immediately started contacting several designers. Most didn't return calls. A few said they were booked for at least a year. Helen was the only one who contacted me. I was lucky I did because this small kitchen, comprising a tiny kitchen and tinier laundry room would require Swiss Army knife precision to: - combine the kitchen and laundry room - give me more floor area - create a logical work space - add much more storage - adhere to my minimalist aesthetic. Helen wasn't scared away and her design nailed my bullet points in only a few sessions. I had no timeline for completion because I've managed construction projects in a past life. I wanted Helen and her construction team to take their time and deliver quality. As I expected, this old house presented several major challenges during the demo and build phases. All were addressed logically and successfully. The cabinet installation was a true jigsaw puzzle because the small space meant tolerances had to be exact. This was probably the toughest part of the total remodel and it was fascinating to watch it all get assembled. I'm very pleased with the results. The appliances are superb, the flow to do basic tasks in this new space is so natural and intuitive, and, I no longer have the ugliest kitchen in my neighborhood. It's a surprising show stopper when people visit: so much kitchen in such a small space. Having managed large projects, the key to success during the process is having patience and an understanding that mistakes happen. It made this complex remodel relatively pain free and the result was worth it!
