I'm used to bigger parks but this was okay for a picnic. The small trail is concrete but there are too many bikes for my liking. My dog is small and gets scared easily of bikes so we normally do off road trails that don't allow bikes with larger picnic areas. The grass area is nice but there usually are dogs off leash play fetch. I feel like its only large enough for 2 dogs at a time. The park is also split up by the creek and parking lots so it's small patches within the park. That being said it was okay for our picnic today. All the dogs were well behaved off leash. All the owners were responsible and watching their dogs. Also watch out for the sprinklers if you do picnic on the grass! There are bathrooms near the library parking lot. I had to find it since I didn't see a map!

We were driving by and decided to stop. There was a lot of parking. This place has so many cute things. There is a lot of grass area. This is a great place for a picnic. It is very well shaded. On the side a lot of dogs we're playing. There's cool chairs and a nice bridge. If you have little ones they will definitely love this park

I really love Civic Park and here's why: Clean/safe location Abundant number of swings (8 total!) Two play structures (1 for little little's, and the other for big little's) A cool train to 'pretend' to ride (not a moving train) A zip line for the big kids (yes - a ZIP LINE!) A sand box area (make sure to bring a sand bucket/shovel) Large grassy fields (pups OK!) Large shade trees (perfect in summer) Free parking (can be hard to find a spot during peak times) This park is even cooler since the Walnut Creek library and cafe are very close by (walking distance).

Always fun here! First star - Parents are friendly, very social park. Second star- park is clean and I haven't seen any shady characters or drug use. Clean public restrooms. Third star- My kids love this park because of the train and sand box. Added benefits- library close by, and check out the community center for fun activities! Large grass area, perfect for a picnic. Scenic creek makes it a fun place to take a walk. I have to knock two stars off due to the small parking lot- sometimes we cannot find parking. Also, no shade for the playground, too hot for summer afternoons.

Civic Park is another reason why I just love living in Walnut Creek. It's a beautiful gateway in to the downtown area, featuring a gazebo, playground, a rose garden, benches and plenty of lawn space to stretch out and enjoy our typically gorgeous weather. There is a small parking lot adjacent to Civic Park, which on weekends, can tend to fill up quickly. During the week there are plenty of spots and I believe it's a 3 hour limit. It's very near to our beautiful library, which is convenient to visit, then bring your books over to the park to enjoy, once checked out. I've seen community events held in the park as well-everything from Yoga to Tai Chi to small groups using the gazebo as a meeting spot. There are community buildings as well-although I've never been inside any of them. From what I understand there are art classes held there, as well as some craft shows and other small events. There are walking paths which cut through Civic Park and make a nice addition to the Creek Walk or a short stroll around the area. Another perk of living in Walnut Creek!

Civic Park is a 10 acre park that was recommended as a good place to blow off steam after we attended a cousin's Bar Mitzvah nearby. It fit the bill perfectly. Features include: * Children's play structures (swings, climbing structures, stationary train) http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/civic-park-walnut-creek?select=KOrayQ3S2wDonwwmAFpB_g#FA33XcorxxGS3mtk678mOA * Sand * Large lawn with partial shade http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/civic-park-walnut-creek?select=KOrayQ3S2wDonwwmAFpB_g#toefCu4wPFWWE5lzpaAnMg * Picnic areas * Restrooms * Native plant/butterfly habitat garden * Community center with seniors' programs * Connection to the Iron Horse Trail * Entrance to the Creek Walk * Tennis courts * Gazebo (where Yelper Eric B. got hitched in 2010!) * Parking lot Our family enjoyed the unusual climbing structures at this park. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/civic-park-walnut-creek?select=KOrayQ3S2wDonwwmAFpB_g#GnbSuluGaDzgfXQwg7zP0Q There is plenty to do, so a family can spend a lot of time here easily.

In the heart of downtown Walnut Creek sits Civic Park - a creek runs along the side of the park, green lawns all through it, and there are so many events held in and around it! I don't think of Civic Park first when trying to find a spot for a picnic or BBQ, and I don't have kids so I'm not very interested in their play area (but it does look nice) - when I think of Civic Park, I think of pretty trees, an annual ice skating rink, and the racing events that take place in Walnut Creek, starting and finishing at the park. Special community events take place here, as well as private events, both often have the pretty gazebo in the background. There is a small private parking lot (not useful on race days), but there are so many streets and lots nearby that cars can overflow into these spaces, especially on busy weekends. Today's Run Walnut Creek 5K departed from and returned to Civic Park. The muddy grass from the recent rains made a fast take-off pretty difficult. At the end of the race there were several large booths set up of local businesses - hundreds of runners had room to spread out, relax, and check out the booths. There is lots of space here and it'd be a great place for a party, celebration, or just a meet-up with your friends.

Great Park! The playground has good equipment, climbing rocks as well. I like that there is sand throughout the playground, it makes it fun for my infant as well as my 5 year old. Playground features: 2 play structures complete with slides, poles, bridge Big kid swings and baby swings Climbing Rocks Water play structure (which is awesome!) Another added plus...small library just across the lawn to stop off at after the park. There are picnic benches and bbq's as well. Would be a good park to throw a bbq or bday party.

    Big kid structure.

Nestled in Contra Costa County and located south of Martinez, west of Concord, and north of Walnut Creek, this city has been incorporated dating back to 1961. Here you will find the open space City Hall where there is a walkway arch and natural shrub surrounding it (which is where I captured a couple of pictures on a beautiful, warm spring afternoon). There is also Downtown Pleasant Hill (on Crescent Dr) which offers lots of great shopping, dining, and a nearby movie theater. And finally, there is the Pleasant Hill Park (off of Gregory Ln) which has a big play area for the kids, a bocce ball court, and lots of shaded areas on those warm summer days. What I particularly like about this area is that it has always felt "safe" to me yet it is not quite as diverse as other cities such as Berkeley, Oakland, and Richmond. They have a great school system, decent roads, and an overall above average community. Finally, many of the exits are right off the 680 freeway. With that said and done, I am giving the "City of Pleasant Hill" an above average four-star rating.

The grass was green and well kept, and there was plenty of space for kids to run around. The covered picnic areas with a roof was so nice and perfect for rainy days or a hot sunny weather, and it offered many things to keep kids entertained such as a good-sized playground. It's clean, easy, and works well for group gatherings. Only downside is the restrooms were available but not very clean, and parking can get a bit tight. Overall, a reliable spot for things like birthday parties without feeling chaotic.

Disappointing. Walnut Creek Recreation broke the CA "Honest…read morePricing Law" (SB478). Walnut Creek Rec sends out a catalogue every year for the camps they offer. There is pricing in these catalogues- just like the catalogues you receive for clothes or Costco or whatever you get- they list a price, the store needs to honor it. We get the catalogue, we have a budget, the kids are excited to pick their camps within that budget. I register the kids for camps. Usually there's no issue. But this year the price on the website for one of the camps was more than what was advertised. Walnut Creek Rec thinks it's OK to increase the price and write in the camp description that "the price is different in the catalogue". I registered my kids because I thought the "Community" Center would honor their original pricing, but no. The option I was told was, "We can unenroll your child if you don't like the new price." Even after I told them this was "bait and switch", this was still their only option offered. This is an audacious and patronizing response and doesn't hold anyone accountable. The difference is $16 or $17 dollars, so it's not like they messed up 1 number when typing out the catalogue. An employee from Walnut Creek Recreation signed off on the printing of this catalogue with specific prices. The lady I spoke with and her staff member claimed this was a printing error. This was not a printing error- at no point did the printer mess up. This is their error and someone needs to hold them accountable. The lady who called me confused "accountability" with "acknowledgment". If you're reading this- look it up. You claimed you were being "accountable" when the words "the price changed" were included in the camp description on the website. "Acknowledgment" (with no corrective action) means you know you messed up, you admit it, and you do nothing about it- like this situation. You shouldn't be in a job that has a direct impact on other people because you do not value the community you work for. "Accountability" means you understand you messed up and you do what you can to make the situation better. The person who does this knows and values the impact they have on their community.. they also value their community. This review is for the staff and the lack of respect they have for the law and their community, and the lack of understanding how their actions can negatively impact their community.
