Update: I finally ended up fixing the computer myself a few years back. I looked up a couple YouTube videos on how to swap an Apple hard drive, bought the tool you need for $8 at Lowes. Took the panel off, disconnected the original Apple hard drive and replaced it with a $200 1 terabyte Samsung one. This of course made me ineligible for any further "assistance" from Apple or their "affiliates," but funnily enough I haven't had a single problem in years, the longest it's ever not had problems and it still runs like a dream. So I dunno, maybe sit on that one, "geniuses" lol. read more

I'd purchased a MacBook Air from Amazon after a misadventure with my last Microsoft product purchased in Durham. One problem after another necessitating three drives to/from Durham (getting it 'fixed' and replacing it once and turning it in for a refund the last time the third time). I've always been a MS guy and also an Android phone guy as well, so when my new position provided me with an iPhone 6s I looked at it as someone would a poisonous serpent. Over the next few days I found that once bitten, however, it did kind of grow on you. So, what to do with a replacement for my laptop for work? A refurbished MacBook Air seemed a good bet and one of the Apple aficionados at work 'helped' me set it up which soon had me thinking of throwing it out the window of my office (I actually have none, but was getting ready to make one). I went to a presentation at Brunswick Community College that night and while taking notes using "Notes" a neighbor asked me why. When I explained about my struggles he suggested going to CityMac (which I'd never heard of); telling me it is an Apple authorized service center, I figured I had nothing to lose. What a difference! No appointment, no attitude, just walk in the door and almost immediately I was met and welcomed. Customer service is not dead, but alive and well in Wilmington at CityMac. Within a few minutes my issues with my laptop were resolved and I was on my way. Bye bye Microsoft. read more

Dropped my computer off today and the techs were very friendly, fast, and knowledgeable of my issue.

I live about 1.5 hours away, I've exhausted all local resources for my iPhone and the apple support gave me the info of CityMac to bring my phone in for diagnostics. My husband called CityMac and explained the issue I had going on the employee said just to swing by... we let them know on the phone it was an audio issue. When I arrived to the store the lady took my phone back to run diagnostics and then came back up a few minutes later and told me she didn't have credentials to do the audio and if I wanted to come back tomorrow the only tech with credentials would be there.... It was upsetting, I explained I lived far away. We even called in and explained the issue before we were instructed to drive to the store and she said she JUST now in that moment figured out that the only person with credentials wasn't there. I waited for her to update my phone which failed, she told me if she sent my phone to Apple it'd take 4-7 days to get it back. Overall a huge waste of a trip. The lady was nice but unable to even help me in finding a solution for my problem. I wish I would've drove the extra hour to go the apple store or just went to the other authorized Apple dealer in new bern. If you're looking for help to a in depth issue, I'd recommend going somewhere else. I definitely did not feel like a priority. read more

Glad I stopped at this place before I go to at&t or bestbuy store. My phone would turn on to the Apple screen and goes black. The guy was able to help me recover my phone! I also didn't want to lose my child pictures and video and I didn't backup yet. Also a layer of comfort since it is an Apple certified store. Pretty sure if I go to at&t or bestbuy they would say it can't be fixed and make me buy a new phone, plan, accessories, etc. read more

I am so frustrated. This company is amazing but it has currently shut down and is not responding to even a phone call. The only location open is in Washington state and they are not answering their phone calls either. I have only gotten my Mac products serviced through here and they are the only ones who can help give me the information I need to get my computer fixed. Update: Second time I went they tried to MAJORLY upcharge me. When I called Apple about the price of repair the Apple employee was shocked. Didn't feel much compassion from the store either. Slow turn around times which I guess is the fault of Apple not having a store here. Knocked a star off my review. Wish this place wasn't the only option for Apple service - why is there no Apple store around here! read more

I bought my Mac Book Air from City Mac in December of 2018. This month I went to City Mac with a broken screen. I had dropped the computer. They informed me that it would be 674.00 to send it off to APPLE!!!!!! I left and went to Bilzi Mac on Oleander. Very nice people. Sue Bilzi said to directly talk to APPLE. She was kind and gave me all the information . (They do not work on this particular computer). I sent my computer to APPLE with the box they had overnighted me. They said it would be 118.00. I was ecstatic. The computer came back two days after I sent it..... AT NO CHARGE. Ir was covered under my Limited Warranty! City Mac told me it was not covered. So beware of City Mac. I have two iPhones (model 6 and a 5) and called this store to see if they would purchase them. They said yes and to bring them in. After a 30 minute drive I showed them to the employee and he said they only give store credit. I would not have driven to the store if they had told me this. He looked at the model 6 (which is in great shape) and said he could give me $20 but nothing for the model 5. Thanks for nothing. Just be careful of this store. They say they will buy iPhones but it's for store cretic only and they low ball it. These phones go for a lot more. Last time I'll visit this business. read more

I drove and hour and a half just to be told that I should just buy a new MacBook Air. They didn't even take a look at or try to fix the problem (liquid spilled on keyboard). Terrible service. They wouldn't even touch my laptop after I told them what happened. read more

Bad experience with this apple repair store!!!! Took my computer there to have it repaired (suggested by APPLE) It's been two almost three weeks and the manager just called me today to inform me that it needed to be sent out to Apple. I've called and have spoken with the manager several times and each time it was a different story. My computer would have been fixed and sent back from Apple if they would have told the TRUTH in the BEGINNING.. He informed me that it may cost $300 or more to fix (like really) how is that a problem when I just brought the New "15inch for $3000. just know that this could have been a easy fix it they were Honest and said they couldn't fix IT!!! read more

I took my iPhone in to have the charging port replaced. I was told by the man behind the counter an iPhone charging port is not a repairable part. I went to a different local cellphone repair shop and they replaced my charging port. The City Mac employee was either incompetent or a liar. read more

My daughter moved down to Wilmington, where there is no Apple Store. But being an ex- Apple Consultant, I was THRILLED to see there was an Apple Authorized place nearby. We have used this place a few times, for an iMac and my older MacBook Pro which I gave to my daughter. This place is top notch, with great attitude. Very helpful, especially with out-of-warranty repairs. Recommend highly for local Mac folk. read more

Was visiting my folks, saw this location, had just recently discovered this franchise and found out they have a location right in my neighborhood, in MB. Since I was right in front of the store decided to go in. Very friendly people, good customer service. I must have caught them at a perfect time, I only waited 10 minutes. Had them check out my ipad, it had just died and would not recharge a week past. I figured the battery but wanted opinion if worth the expense. After running a few tests, their opinion was- sorry not worth the $$, the tablet is almost 5 yrs old. I wasn't ready to spend money on a new ipad, but I did purchase an Apple tv 4k set up for my guest bedroom. The store is a great concept, buy, set up, repair all apple products at 1 store-without waiting a month for an appt. Apple needs a lot more of these, there is One hitch though, it's only all apple but service provider is only Verizion, I'm sure that may turn people away from using, however no problem for me-I've been with V. Since the 80's !, Maybe I should receive a 5 star rating from Verizon for such loyalty. read more

I've had mixed experiences with this place, and the recent one with my mother-in-law's iPhone pretty much takes the cake. First off... last year I bought a gift card specifically to give to my wife for X-Mas to replace her iPhone battery. She works off that thing and wasn't getting through a day on a full charge like she used to. Coconut Battery (a desktop app that can test connected iPhones) showed a significant reduction in the battery capacity. She took it up there, they refused to replace it, saying it wasn't depleted enough by Apple's guidelines. Bear in mind, I bought a gift card and explicitly mentioned what it would be for. They didn't say that replacing it was at their discretion! I went back up there with screen shots of what CB showed me; explained the matter; the person I talked to said it was a borderline case but agreed to replace it. Fast forward to a couple weeks ago. My mother-in-law's iPhone was seeing some serious battery drain. She had been seeing it drain from 100% down to 20% over a couple hours while doing literally nothing more than playing music while driving in between stops while running errands. After verifying her settings were aggressive at minimizing battery use and doing a hard reboot to ensure nothing was running, I sat there and watched her battery drain in real time from 80% down to 75% over 3 minutes or so. That's NUTS! Coconut Battery showed a battery capacity of around 72% of new. CityMac refused to replace the battery. They relied on the iPhone's own estimate of battery capacity, which read something like 93% (while ignoring the fact that that very screen said "Beta"!). They also claimed that the iPhone was bent and they wouldn't replace the battery no matter what. Well I took a carpenter's square tool tool and ran it across the back of her iPhone in both dimensions to check this. It was NOT bent. It didn't even look bent. I'm baffled as to why they even thought it was. I also know full well they have tools to check the battery capacity in-house, so why they simply pointed to Apple's "beta" readout flabbergasts me. Thankfully Best Buy was much more reasonable. They tested the battery; got even poorer results than I got; and also witnessed the battery draining in real time. They agreed to replace the battery. It was literally a NO BRAINER! You'd think CityMac would have their act together and be the next best thing to an Apple Store, but that hasn't been our experience. read more

My charger on my older model MacBook Pro quit working, and I headed to BestBuy looking for a new one. They were out of stock and said they were the only place in town to find that particular charger. Not true! CityMac saved the day by having my exact charger in stock (and 99¢ cheaper than BestBuy, I might add). They were very friendly and I'm so glad I stopped by! When the store opened in The Forum, I thought it was another repair place. I wasn't aware they sold products, too. So thankful CityMac came to Wilmington! read more

Living in Wilmington we do not have an Apple Store here if something with our products go amiss. After calling the Geek Squad who told me to buy another iPad since mine was having trouble, and two other companies who claim to "REPAIR" iPad and iPhones but only repair screens I called City Mac. I was having trouble with lines moving across the screen and some strange dots on the left hand side. City Mac said they'd be able to diagnose the problem for a very reasonable fee, and if they could repair that fee would be applied towards the total bill. Took it in after noon on Tuesday, Wednesday morning they called and gave me the news that it could be repaired (LCD was going out) and the remainder of the charge ( also very reasonable). I could pick it up after noon. The store is a great place to go if you are a Mac and Apple fan. Lots of toys and accessories to be had! I shout out to Matt who took in my iPad and checked me out. Very pleasant and helpful. I no longer have to wonder if I need to drive to Raleigh for Apple or Mac products or help, I can stay in Wilmington! Went to CityMac for i6 charging port repair. They said the charging port can't be repaired "everything is tied into it - can't be replaced", but they would sell me a refurbished i6 for $ 300.00, if I turned my i6 in because it is Apple property. This is not correct as Apple will fix the port for $ 300.00 There was a couple in there before me that they had just been told the same thing and I felt sorry for them as they had not backed up on the cloud. The lady was very distressed because she was going to lose a 1000 pictures. I found this to be a lack of knowledge or a deception to try to sell a refurbished phone instead of taking care of what the customer really needed. And... The charging port can be replaced. # of 3rd parties in Wilmington can do it for 80 bucks or less. Will not go back! read more

I wish I could give it a zero I made an appointment for Friday April 27 at 1PM to have two batteries replaced on two iphones. I was greeted (if that is what you want to call it) by a less then helpful counter person who told me they did not have batteries in stock. I explained I took a half day off work and made and confirmed an appointment at 1PM he then stated oh if you have an appointment we have batteries. He then proceeded t do take my phone out teir cases he looked at my phone and stated they could not replace the battery as the screen had a small crack if the could fix the screen and was told yes but they would have to send it to Apple and tha twould take three to five days I then asked if they had a loaner rphone he said yes but they were all out an did not know when one would be back in...I then stated fine just replace the battery on the second phone began to fill out paper work and was told they would contact me in two or three hours because they only had one tech working today. I explained I made an appointment an NONE of these things (cant replace battery on phone with a cracked screen, and that itwould take two or three hours for replacement) were explained to me on the phone...his answer well they should have sorry I said I took a half day off work to have these issued resolved did not care. Second counter person approached and I asked who I spoke to the prior day to confirm the appointment made a week prior I said it was a girl she said was not her must have been the other girl....these two individuals could not have been ruder, more condescending and did not give a darn about customer service or my time RUDE RUDE RUDE I then drove to mr phix phone repairs that have apple certified technicians where they replaced both batteries and replaced my screen in twenty minutes out the door with a warranty a third cheaper with genuine Apple oem parts.....would highly recommend them! Don't waste your time with cityMac unless you like be treated like garbage read more

I had an appointment to get the battery replaced about two weeks out. I dropped the phone off a few days early since I was going to be out of town. I came back to pick it up and they said that my find my iPhone was not turned off, however the employee did it in front me herself. When I got there they walked me through deactivating it again but through a website and said it doesn't always work yet I got an email from apple saying the find my iPhone was deactivated. What they did on the website was delete my iPhone from the account not deactivate. I called apple that night and they said that if I got the email then it was deactivated. So they are liars or incompetent. I then went back to pick it up a day later and they gave it back to me and said it was done but the screen seal was hanging out of the phone. I gave it back to them and told them to repair it correctly. They did this and gave it back to me the next day. This phone was going to my mom so I put it in the original apple iPhone box. It sat there for 2 weeks. When I opened it to make sure it had some charge on it it is dead. So I plug it in and it won't charge. My guess is they screwed up and didn't plugged in the lightening connector so now I have to go back and get that fixed. The only thing they did do that made it somewhat better was gave me a refund for the battery replacement. I highly do not recommend this place. Save yourself the headache and go ANYWHERE else please for your own sanity. read more
