Absolute WORST experience. Would give zero stars if I could. Will never visit this store (or any other City Mac) again. I came in with what I now know should have been a very easy fix - one of my Macbook Air keyboard keys ("e") had fallen off. I was still able to type the letter "e," but it did not have a button on top of it. I had all of the parts with me, just didn't want to risk reaffixing the key improperly and damaging the device. The technician took my laptop to the back and instead of fixing the displaced key, returned with a quote in hand for over $300. He said that the key could not be replaced without taking apart the entire computer and exposing the motherboard. He said he could not fix the one key without risking damage to the internal hardware of the laptop. I was surprised, but thanked him for his time and asked him if there was any sense in holding onto the missing key and its parts or if those would need to be replaced anyway. At this point, the technician suggested placing the missing key on top of its proper position on the keyboard, and instead of attempting to force it into place, using a keyboard cover and typing over the keys. Seemed like a reasonable enough suggestion to me, so I went ahead and tried it while I was still in the store. As soon as I did what the technician suggested, the "e" key became stuck in position and I went from struggling to type the letter "e" on my keyboard to suddenly no longer being able to type the letter "e" at all. So I asked the technician to please remove the broken key from its position as the button was no longer operable. He took my laptop to the back again, returned five minutes later with the broken key still lodged into its space, and said the key could not be removed without taking apart the entire computer. So at this point, I'd gone from receiving a shockingly expensive quote for what should have been a relatively straightforward, low-priority issue to now having a keyboard that was essentially inoperable without the letter "e" and being told I had no choice but to pay them the money to fix it. I was so appalled. I couldn't believe I had walked into the store with such a minor problem and I was storming out with a much, much bigger issue, thanks to the technician who screwed me over. Still not clear to me whether he was incompetent or just manipulative; either way, I will never EVER be visiting this business again. Spoiler alert: Turns out taking the entire laptop apart to remove one key is completely unnecessary; I ended up searching for a YouTube video and fixing the problem the technician created myself and doing zero damage to the computer in the process. Apple, please put a store in Market Common and shut this place down. read more

Don't go here, awful service, if any! was in town just for the weekend visiting my sons and dropped my computer off when they opened on Saturday morning. I was told a technician would call me when they started working on my laptop to let me know what was wrong and how much it would cost. 5:00 came and went without hearing anything, so I called for an update, never got a callback so I called at noon when they opened on Sunday and had to leave another message, with still, no return call. Went by there around 3:00 and they did nothing to my computer and tried to blame me for not coming back in to tell them what I wanted them to do to it. This is beyond ridiculous!!! Now I've wasted time due to lack of communication on their part. The service was very poor and I'd save myself a trip to this store. Awful, awful experience, no one seemed to care. read more

I am wondering why all the one star reviews aren't showing? They say it's because they aren't useful. So if you find this useful, please say so I made my third trip to City Mac yesterday. Because I felt dismissed or ignored, I would not have gone there again except that Apple called ahead and arranged for someone to do a diagnostic on my phone (which I did not buy at this store). The woman who greeted me was very nice. Despite the fact that there was only one person in the store, I had to wait 20 minutes. Then after explaining why I was there, they said they had no one there who could do diagnostics, and since I didn't buy my phone there, I should come back with the box and all paperwork. Mind you, this had been cleared by Apple. The fact is, they are only interested in their customers who pay more than they would pay anywhere else. On a previous visit, I naively went in to ask a question about my new phone. They told me that if I didn't know what I was doing, I could come back and take a $60 per hour class. I have been in Apple stores. The people are usually helpful and caring. Not a hint of snobbery. As I said, the greeter was courteous, but this place has a bad feel, like Silicon Valley wannabes. read more

THIS STORE IS A SCAM They are condessending and rude to women. All the men were staring at me while I was talking to a "technician". This is one of the worst stores that deal with electronics. First they tried to scam me into sending my phone into Apple for "further testing". Then they said I would have to pay for the shipping and it would take two weeks at least. I need to get a screen replaced and they couldnt even do that. When my mom called back to complain, they trerated her very poorly over the phone and were condessending. Totally wasted day! I drove over from Conway to get some "specialized help." The Mac that cost me over $2000 is not working. I bought it there. My dad and I stopped in to have our iPhone 6 & 6 plus batteries replaced. Dropped them off after he explained the cost and procedure. He also check out for any other problems. We went to lunch and returned 45 minutes later and all the work was done. Both phones working better. Need your iPhone or iPad looked at, stop here first! read more

I went down to the store to have the battery replaced, and they had to order the battery. The ordering process for the battery took over four weeks. I took the phone in with me when I orders the battery because it had a cracked screen and was told there was no problem getting the battery replaced. Today when I took the phone to have the battery replaced and they said they can't do it because of the crack they said it would be over a week to send the phone off and get the screen replaced. They have intentionally wasted my time for over a month and the phone is not fixed. Unbelievably horrible service. read more

The fellow that checked my wife's phone was very polite and explained the possible fixes and repair options to us before starting and that was all great. Turns out it was the least significant problem and he fixed it in less than 10 minutes. He was very Professional and earned a 5 Star rating himself. However, what prevented us from grading the CityMac store a 5 Star over all was the complete lack communication from the front desk staff. We called several times Saturday morning thru the afternoon. We NEVER received a call back. Hence we drove over 40 minutes to this location, while on vacation only to find out we had to return on a week day. This place is awful. I took my phone to the store because I had some debris stuck in the camera lens from the inside and the camera wouldn't focus. They always have to "take it in the back" which freaks me out because who knows what they're doing back there with it... he comes back and says they need to do some sort of camera reset or whatever, and they have to take it in the back for an hour to do it. I declined and took my phone to iScreenFix, told him my issue and what I thought the problem was. He took the phone apart right in front of me and cleaned the lens and I was right...there was no other issue. He didn't charge me a dime, and City Mac tried to charge me $80 for something I didn't need. These guys are such a rip off and will take advantage of you. They're not friendly, and ladies, they are probably going through your entire photo gallery when they "take your phone/computer in the back". Don't trust them! read more

Everyone here was extremely helpful. Even though they were busy, I felt very welcome. They did a free 10 minute check up to make sure they knew exactly what the problem was, and ended at the same conclusion I did (needs a new battery). Why I took two stars away, and maybe this is too harsh, is because during that 10 minute period they very helpfully diagnosed my macbook, the technician changed a dozen of my setting. They were not important settings, but stuff like: The top right no longer showed the day and date, just the time instead. It also did not display the battery percentage, just a picture of the battery instead. Macbook no longer required a password after computer was closed. Default browser was no longer firefox. "Tap to click" turned off. There were about 12 totally unnecessary changes that, again, are not a big deal and very easily fixable, but also gave rise to too many instances of me cursing in my head and thinking "what? that too? why? why? that makes no sense." Let me reiterate: Amazing staff, super super helpful and supporting, I AM going back to them to install a new battery next week because they are that great, and also they might make annoying changes to your computer. read more

Why is it that the City Mac website states on a Wednesday store hours are 10am to 8pm. Yet I show up at 7:35 pm expecting the store to be open for a quick purchase of a case and charger yet doors are locked. Now I see before posting this that hours are different than on your actual site. So I had to waste gas, and time to just turn around and go home because a company can't either 1. Update their website store location hours or 2. Be open like their website states. So apparently a customer has to call 30 minutes before closing to see if a store is still open? read more

I made an appointment for a private lesson costing $59.95. I called the day before to confirm it. I also called before leaving again as it is a 40 minute drive. I went to the back of the store where you check in. A very rude and hostile man said I had to reschedule for another day as he was too busy. I explained about my calls and he said he would give me 10 minutes when he was ready. Once he got to me and I explained my problem he clicked through my settings and did not explain anything to me. This is the 3rd time in 5 years I have asked for help at this store. By paying for a private lesson I thought it would ensure I had plenty of time and attention. Ordered new battery for IPhone in March. Never received phone call that battery was in. Followed up on May 19th & arranged appointment for the 21st. Called Monday to verify & advised appointment was cancelled because the service dept ( which doesn't work on weekends) couldn't reach me. Rescheduled for Wednesday with a friend who also waiting for new battery. Got there at appointed time was advised I had an appointment but my friend did not but that they would squeeze her in. Told to come back in two hours. Returned as advised & was told my phone wasn't ready as I didn't have an appointment & they were squeezing me in & it would be another hour. Finally received my phone which had a voice mail from 2 hours previously that my phone was almost done & to disregard an earlier voice mail as that was for another customer. I would travel to the Charleston store before I ever went back here. It got one star because the man who scheduled the original appointment on Saturday was apologetic & very polite. I agree with ALL the bad reviews, I think the good ones were written by employees to counter all the complaints. I was treated like an idiot. Techs are so rude, they treat you like you are a nuisance. No friendly greeting, very little eye contact, very cold responses, if any. I have experienced this every time I go there. I see the same coldness to others as I wait in the lobby. I complained to the manager about the extremely poor customer service and was given an apology and was told the techs would be spoken to. however, the techs remain and the customers are leaving according to the reviews. Insulting customers seems to be the culture that could come from the owner who replies to complaints with the same arrogant attitude. I hope they have to close due to lack of business. I have never experienced such rudeness and felt so insulted. Our community deserves respect and appreciation. City Mac doesn't deserve any stars. read more

I am an avid Mac user and have repaired and maintained multiple MacBooks in my life. I was having trouble with my gf computer cutting on but we had no idea what it could be due to the fact that it sits on a table in our house and was working just hours before. Also, we make sure to keep drinks and liquids out of this room due to all of my studio equipment being in this same room. After having my computer for 72 hours CityMac calls to inform me that I have tier 4 (the highest level) of water damage and that is why my computer will not cut on. This also happens to be one of the few things Apple care does not cover. Fishy? Yes to say the least. I know for a fact no drinks or liquid have even been on the same table as this computer. The computer may have been done and needed to be replaced, but water damage was not a concern. Seems to me as though there were extracurricular activities on their end. Regardless, the service was below par and I am retrieving my computer and taking to another service because I will give them none of my money. read more

Was looking for a case for my apple I Pair air 2. Found a couple of units that might have worked. Asked the employee if I could try the look and fit on my I Pad that I had with me, and was told that once they took a cover out the box I would be charged a 20% restocking charge if I didn't like it. I questioned the response, and was told it was company policy. So unless you want to fall prey to this TERRIBLE customer service, I would suggest shopping elswhere. I did find a cover and stylus at Best Buy, and VOW to never again step into this store again. I will say the employee helping me was very knowledgable and courteous. My friend and I signed up for the I pad class....the instructor was really not prepared to teach a class. The first thing he said was "now where do I start". I should have known by that remark I was in trouble. He also mentioned multiple times he has limited time to do this class. He jumped around the I pad trying to show the workings of the I pad. He should have had a program of what he was going to teach and maybe he would have actually taught something. I paid $10.00 and got $2.00 worth of information . Some people were unable to understand him that is because he mumbled when talking and used largo that lay people did not understand....also during our class there were children in the store that were very loud and disturbing ...someone in the front of the store should have said something to the children or parents for them to use inside voices due to a class going on...classes should be done in a closed in area.. Purchased two new Apple iPad air2. Called and made an appointment describing what needed to be done with transferring information from our existing iPads and iPhones to the new products. Took the afternoon off from work and made the 45 minute journey to Market Commons. Waited over 10 minutes before I was acknowledged. When the worker behind the counter finally acknowledged me, she told me to go to the next room and wait for a technician from the back. My appointment was for 4pm. After waiting for another 10 minutes, (4:20pm) the tech appears from the back of the store. I told him what I wanted completed and he said "that's going to take longer than 30 minutes and we needed to come back". Why did I make the appointment in the first place and described in detail what needed to be done over the phone? He than said he could do one of the iPads and starting telling me all the different charges that I would incur. I told him I didn't care what it cost, I just needed it fixed. I felt as if he was just making excuses not to help me. If you don't want my money, I'll go to Charleston. Very rude and unprofessional. I will not be returning to this store. read more

I have a MacBook Pro from 2009. I ran into an issue which required me to contact Apple Tech support. Once I had explained my situation with the operating system error, they recommended I go to the "Authorized" Apple store locally rather than take the 2 1/2 hr drive to Apple themselves. Trusting that Apple support knew what they were doing with the referral I went down to CityMac in Market Commons. This is where my first mistake was made. I walked into the store and was greeted by the store manager, Jeff. Explained that I had been in contact with Apple and they directed me here, stating that I may need a hard-drive and a diagnostic test would need to be performed. They charged me 49 dollars to run a diagnostic and contacted me the next day stating that I would in fact need a new hard-drive. They offered to install the hard-drive for (165.00) attempt a back up for an additional (45.00) and then reinstall my OS for (90.00). Completely blown away by this I decided I wanted a second opinion and called into the Apple store in Charleston. They suggested I come into the store because it didn't sound as though I needed a hard-drive but they could run a diagnostic for FREE and install the hard-drive for (150.00) and reinstall my OS for FREE. Needless to say I went to Apple, and saved myself a SIGNIFICANT amount of money, a hard-drive was NOT needed, they reinstalled my OS system and my computer is in perfect working order. All in all CityMac was absolutely trying to take advantage of me and make significant money off of me for no reason at all. I wouldn't go back there if I was paid. I was highly disappointed and thoroughly disgusted when Apple gave me a completely opposing diagnosis of my computer. I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE.
