My absolute, without a doubt FAVORITE shoe is the Skechers Winsor Moreno Black. I would buy them all the time and wear them until the soles were worn all the way through. Well, Skechers discontinued that shoe a few years ago and I could not find them anywhere. The thought of buying a used pair off ebay (eww) was a line I would NEVER cross. Anyway, after coming across a bunch of online stores that said they carried the shoe, but worrying me because they had really shady looking websites, I came across J Scherter's website. I did a google search and found that it was an actual store. That was a plus! Further google searches revealed that it was a family owned store...I love family businesses - Another plus! Then I saw it was in Canada. I would have stopped right there but they had my shoes....my favorite shoes! The price was comparable to other sites which were sold out, so I figure "why not"... They accept PayPal payments on their site.....awesome! I bought the shoes, and immediately received an email from J Schreter that the order was received and that I would get follow ups when shipped. I got the follow up the next morning with the tracking info. After that I got periodic PayPal updates on where the shoe was while en route. Fast forward 5 days and they arrived at my door safe and sound! The shoes were in their original Skechers shoebox and there was even a thank you note from the current owner, Steve Schreter.

So I gave up the search and accepted that I would never have the bag of my dreams.....until one day when my boyfriend brought me to Mile End Kicks. I live nearby yet never thought about checking it out because it completely slipped my mind that it existed. But there it was. MY BAG *heart*. My boyfriend surprised me with it and I've had it ever since. Now I make sure to visit every few months to see if they've gotten anything new recently that could be cool. I don't buy very many shoes so I usually skip that section of the store.

I decided to try on something different, but was having an issue where the 9's were fitting weird in the heel whereas the 9.5's felt snug, and I was trying to figure out why. After explaining this to both the lady who was helping me and a man who appeared to be a manager(?), the man leans over to the lady and whispers "he's crazy", and then goes on to say in a lower voice that "he'll probably try all these on and just buy the initial pair" (the shoes I came back to buy). First I'll just say that it was pretty clear that there was a fit issue, as it was easily demonstrable by me trying the two shoes on and lifting my heel. I really wish he had of looked at the issue and tried to figure it out, instead of just explaining what a heel counter was and how Onitsuka's don't have them (it was two sizes of the same shoe so this is irrelevant). The lady, by contrast, provided constructive comments like 'try to really tighten the lower laces to push your foot back'. I've worked this job, and I know how customers can be a pain. And if you're not gonna be helpful, the least you can do is not make such comments within earshot of the customer. Or, maybe in French, as at least I wouldn't understand it. It was a huge turn off and I likely won't be going back, which is unfortunate because this place has an awesome show selection and the people are generally super helpful.

I bought a pair if handmade leather shoes that i typically see for $100-150USD and paid $86 Canadian or $66 USD here. The staff was also incredibly nice and helpful even though I do not speak any French (which has been a bit of a challenge here in my experience.) Even if I didn't find something to buy, just wandering about and looking was really nice. :)

So what does a girl do? Shop until my legging run, of course. I got a bunch of socks, leggings, fishnet stockings, cream winter cap, gloves, and was very tempted to get the shiny leathery looking leggings, but finally found some restraint. I used to sell yarn and fabric, so I loved the different textures and materials on display, from a luxuriously dense knit sweater to an elegant silk blouse. The design of each item was trendy but approachable -- I am a jeans and t-shirt kinda lady but I saw things I would wear. So why didn't I come home with a whole new wardrobe? Price, of course, sigh. Les Étoffes is definitely a special-occasion boutique, and alas I was only sightseeing. While I was there, though, a young man was trying on shirts and mentioned that he was making his first L.E. purchase. It seemed like he'd been looking forward to that day for a while.

The owner is a lovely man and while he is usually the only person found manning the store, he makes time for each and every customer that crosses the threshold. This is one of the few stores on St Hubert that I visit even if I am not on ball gown/fancy attire search.

This shoe store has been in Montreal's Little Italy forever and sells Italian shoes made in Italy…read more I remember back in the day, Montreal was littered with independent Italian family-run shoe stores where they privately imported Italian shoes and had their own suppliers back in Italy, usually located in little out-of-the-way strip malls. I used to see those types of shoe stores in areas where the Italian community are particularly strong, areas like Lasalle, Ville Emard, Pointe Aux Trembles and once upon a time, even in Pointe-Claire. I don't know what happened, but most of those shops are now gone and it's a shame because those shoes lasted me forever and I always got compliments on them because they were singular in their styles and they were reasonably priced. I think Cortina is probably one of the few left now. The service I received here over the years has always been friendly and the shoes are great. Prices here are not cheap but for the quality you get, they are fair. I usually buy boots here.
