I've been coming here for a little over a year now. The receptionists are always friendly and polite. I'm a diabetic, and I have neuropathy in my feet. The techs are very careful and accommodating. I have an ingrown toenail, and the techs aren't scared to go in and dig it out. THE RELIEF IS WORTH IT! I get the same service every time: a pedicure with gel polish, eyebrow/lip wax, and manicure. Including tip, I usually pay around $110. The atmosphere is very relaxed. I usually bring my earbuds and let them do their thing while I enjoy music and the massage chair. To my knowledge they only have one aesthetician so I suggest calling ahead and making an appointment if you want a wax. There is a surcharge if you pay with card, but you get a discount if you bring cash. There are two atms next door as well. read more

This was my first and LAST time coming to this salon. Service was ok; my nails were done well, but the owner- I think it was IS A SCAMMER. I came here with a friend, and we are both teens, and all of a sudden there was a 21% tax? Extremely unprofessional, and they also lied about the "pay cash, no tax" ordeal. I paid by card, and my friend paid cash, and we were taxed the same. Had my nails done today not happy. First time going there and I really don't think I will go back, the tech that did my nails was short, and when I went back because something I felt was off, the tech says, why didn't you say something before you left. Had to ask her while she was putting on the acrylic nail to glue down the edge because I saw it was sticking up. The tray that she had worked from was no looking professional. And I had asked her round nails. Well some are pointed and some are round. Just not feeling this place... have to think long and hard about going back. read more

Never again. I recently moved to West Park, so I asked for recommendations on a nearby salon. Several neighbors recommended City Nails, so last minute I thought I'd give them a try. I called around 7, knowing they close at 8, to see if they could accommodate a walk in for a pedicure. He said No, but I could come in around 7:30. Great! I asked 'Do you accept credit card for service and tip?' he said 'Yes, we accept credit card! I arrive promptly at 7:30 and wasn't taken back to a chair until about 8 minutes to 8. I soaked for a bit then a gal came by to get started. I asked her to cut a little shorter, she left them too long, so she started filing. She then asked for my approval. I was shocked. My nails were ragged and not smooth, they weren't shaped uniformly at all. They were even pointy on the sides. I mentioned this to her and bent down to show what I meant. She continued to file and use cuticle scissors. She ended up filing them to a good length, but after asking again for approval they were still ragged. After explaining I would like smooth nails, she tried once again. This time was no better, but she had misshapen them so unevenly that everything was pointing towards my big toes. I finally said 'I'm not sure this is going to work out, I think I'm going to go' and started to get up. Another girl overheard and she said 'No no, I'll get you. I'll be done in a few minutes'. I was very frustrated and tired of swatting away flies, but I stayed. 15 minutes went by. I started to get up aagain and she said 'No I am coming right now, almost done.' Another 8 minutes. She yelled at me to stay in the water, which I had been soaking in for way too long and I was hot. She finally came over and got started. She used the cuticle scissors so FEROCIOUSLY I now have a sore and infection on my big toe. The shaping and polish came out okay, but all in all it wasn't worth it. I went to check out and of course saw the sign that they don't accept credit card tips. I've never done it in my life, but I didn't have any cash, so no tip was left. I discovered the next day that they had charged my credit car twice. Fun. I didn't leave until after 9:30. 2 hours of my time wasted for a terrible pedicure that is going to result in me having to go to the doctors office. read more

This was my first time going here. I came in for a fill, my nails were not in bad condition, they were overgrown but none were broken and it was nothing out of the ordinary. It took 2 HOURS for them to prep and fill them and i got burnt at least 7 times during this process. Henry did a great job with the design and final product but after 2.5+ hours total for this was insane and then making a comment at the end about how it shouldn't take this long was uncalled for. I have been a costumer for over 2 years now, Their Gel selection of colors is giant! Along with regular polish. Tips* Don't go before they close not only is that rude but make an appointment in adv for pedis. They are always busy, not so much mornings during the weekdays. Come with time and be patient, they are fast and work well specially the gentlemen. They do take cards but tips are cash only* If you walk in after 4 on Thursday expect to wait. Weekends are packed and wait time can be an hour so remember again come with time. If you do make an appointment when you come in they might be working on some one but they will take you. Fabulous customer service! They were patient and attentive with me! I even witnessed them managing an irate, crossing to belligerent, customer with patience, calm demeanor, and kindness. (I don't mean to be rude or a gossiper, but once the lady did as the technician advised her, the customer received the results she was being not-so-nice-at-that-moment about.) I was absolutely floored by the quality of this unassuming, seemingly generic looking salon. My medium length ombre acrylic nails are so skillfully crafted.... Just WOW Description of uploaded picture::: Below::: my phone does not do these nails justice; they glitter, the pink iridescent glitter color-shifts to blue, pink, and purple (base shade a pleasant and soft emerald). (technician suggested an amethyst base iridescent color-shifting glitter, but what can I say? I thought the soft green was a nice cool-tone addition. Im sure most people wouldn't add green to pink and blue, but he respectfully adhered to what I'm sure was a strange request! haha!) The gems are gorgeous, and three of the six on each ring finger also color shift to pink, purple, blue, green, to a diamond white, depending. I found City Star Nails on Yelp and decided to give them a try. When I walked in and I was greeted by a friendly face who asked what I wanted done. I responded a fill with shellac, so she showed me all the polishes. The salon is large and very clean with ample seating, stations, and pedicure chairs. I waited 10 minutes before Ken, the owner, told me I could sit at his station. After I sat at his station he noticed my University of Dayton pin and my Ohio State pin on my jacket. He then asked if I went to Ohio State and I responded no I went to the University of Dayton. He then gave me a high-five and told me his son is currently a student at UD. The Flyer in me was super excited and we started to discuss UD and what his son was studying. After a brief conversation about UD he told me that I needed to get a new set because my nails were lifting. I really appreciate his recommendation considering my nails were popping off like popcorn. But, now they're very strong and durable. Ken is super friendly and very professional. He did an amazing job. Before visiting City Star Nails my nails looked like they went through a paper shredder. I seriously adore this place. I have been a long time customer (14 years). That's literally since I was a freshman in high school. Dear Lord, I'm getting old. The place is run by the most absolutely wonderful people you will ever meet. Kent and Kim are literally the greatest. Kent is the only one I allow to do my nails - but when he's unavail I've had Kim and she's just as good, if not better. I stick to Kent because he's dealt with my high maintenance annoying requests since high school. Legit, who am I to tell them how to do their job? But! If there's something I don't like or want a certain way he has ALWAYS been accommodating. The salon itself has undergone a recent(ish) remodel and certain things are being switched out here & there (a new nail drying station coming soon). The walls are painted with serene colors like yellow, pastel green, and a warm red, faux pillars cover up their ventilation tubes. You're not going to be knocked out with the smell of acetone and acrylic when you walk in either, so that's a plus! Now don't get me wrong, City Star is a "strip mall nail salon" - but they've really classed it up. The clientele? Some of them are still significantly less classy than the salon (ouch) but it comes with the territory. It's not like you're headed to Anthony Vince (Crocker Park) and should be expecting waterfalls and a full bar. No frills, just great service. Parking lot is also sketchy now-a-days since Marc's is legitimately right next door. I park as far away as possible or else you're almost guaranteed a door ding, or five. Again I need to stress how wonderful Kent and Kim are - my visit today was my first visit in some time (was taking a hiatus from acrylics to try out shellac polish and natural nails) and when I walked in I was immediately greeted with warmth from Kim. She was happy to see me and asked how I had been. Once Kent came out he gave me a hug, I love these people! Next to my hair lady, they're the ones that know my life story (dirty laundry and all) & I wouldn't have it any other way. Ok, so they're closed Sundays now I believe (gotta give them 1 day off since they're there the other 6!), but they will be open on Christmas and New Years eve eves this year (2012). Gotta love great customer service. End note: Call ahead to make an appointment. They do take walk-ins but it's harder to get the person you want. Even more final notes (felt compelled to add my tips here too so that they're not hidden if people aren't looking): Their selection of nail polish colors is outstanding! Lots of reds and pinks (fabulous holiday colors - try OPI's "You Only Live Twice") but they've got the whole rainbow. Personal fave - China Glaze's "Under the Boardwalk" - fuschia-y purple (think Jersey Shore style) with a hint of sparkle! I went here for the first time late on a Tuesday and they were busy but accommodating. I asked for a full set and waited about 15 mins to start. I asked for stiletto style and showed the nail tech a picture from Pinterest. He copied it perfectly and took great care to make sure they all matched in length and shape. Went on a Friday morning on 4/6 i got pink and white nails coffin style. Kim was my nail tech she was very pleasant and was very detailed and perfected my coffin shape. The wait was about 15 mins not entirely too bad considering I was a walk in. Today is 4/26 almost 3 weeks since my full set I will provide pictures below. My nails have not lifted nor cracked. 2 days ago this was my second time back at this nail salon to give them another try. Although I was a half an hour early they still accommodated me with a pedicure and acrylic full set the lady " blue and white striped shirt" who did my Mani and full set was not very pleasant she wanted to first argue that nail polish that I bought from Walmart which was not gel polish that it was! I have never in my life been to a nail salon and argued with a nail tech about what was on my feet I tend to do my own pedicures but I felt like I wanted someone else to do them and do them nicely she went on and on about how much extra it will cost to remove it and I simply told her if I had on gel polish it wouldn't be easy for nail polish remover for this to come off ever heard of Sally Hansen top coat in a red bottle it works wonders this polish has been on my toes for one month! Needless to say when she got to my nails it was just a horrible experience attitude, on her phone putting her earpods in, snide remarks not paying attention to my nails burnt me with the nail drill nicked one of my fingers and oh when I asked for designs she pulls out some crap that came from I'm sure Dollar tree or family Dollar how do I know I've seen those and I've bought those stick on nail art how dare you think you're going to charge me all that money for a full set and on top of asking for designs you want to charge extra for some crap that you got from a regular store if you couldn't do freehanded designs that's all she had to say! After 30 minutes to get in my nails so-called dry it looked like somebody took my fingernail and smushed it together the nail polish an the top coat was horrible although I had to tell her to put a top coat on cuz she was done. She walked in the back and never came back I got upset I left came right back in and spoke to the young lady at the front desk she wanted to contribute her broken English as to why my service was horrible impossible that lady argued with me in English she can damn well hear English ridiculous second time, mixed reviews and needless to say I'll never return her ever again I see why a few people that I know have not returned there over the years this is ridiculous if this how you treat people who pay you to do a service why would I come to you why should I have to wait another hour for the owner to correct his employees problem big mistake!!! read more

I downloaded this app solely to write a review on this nail salon. I had previously gotten a fill in on my acrylic nails at Prive Nail Salon in Eton. They did a horrible job on my nails. They were uneven, very thick, and parts of my nails were missing acrylic. In addition, the paint job was horrible, and it was gel so there was nothing I could do to fix it. I came to Yelp to help me find another nail salon I could go to to get them fixed. City Star was the only place I could find that had decent reviews, and it's 30 minutes away from me! This place was fabulous. I made an appointment and requested Ken after reading about how well he does nails on Yelp. I explained to him how I didn't really need a complete fill, I just wanted my nails fixed. He did amazingly. He took his time buffing my nails down, filling in the missing spots with acrylic, and did a beautiful job painting my nails. In addition, he took $10 off my fill job! The only reason I gave City Star 4 out of 5 stars was because it did take quite a while to get seated and for Ken to finish my nails. I made an appointment for 12, and didn't get started on until around 12:20. But other then that, they did a fabulous job. Will definitely be going there for any of my nail needs! read more

This is my new go-to place. I wanted to make sure I'd been here a few times before giving an accurate review. The staff is friendly and they do an AMAZING job with pedicures! You definitely get you your money's worth. Also, being new to gel polish, I was pleasantly surprised by the options and how well they've turned out every time with my I have a definite preference for nail technician. Tom is my guy, but I know they do quality work here. My one complaint is that they often have a wait so book an appointment in advance and plan to spend some time here. I really don't want to bash on this nail salon because the receptionist and a majority of the employees were polite but I felt I couldn't hide the experience I had. To start, beware of getting a pedicure here. It was not an enjoyable experience due to the fact that it was so rushed, rough, and carelessly done. I'm sure there are technicians that are better than others but the tech that did my pedicure rushed through it super fast & not to mention, pedicures are not supposed to be unbearingly painful like mine was. I woke up during the night with swollen and sore toes. It has been two days since the "pedicure" and they are still sore, which urged me to write this review & share a picture. I do not want anyone to go through what I went through. I think that given this situation, the technicians need to take a refresher course on how to properly give a pedicure to a client because this surely is not acceptable. I was very displeased and upset. It's nice to have this place close by because they accept walk ins and can schedule you an appointment. They may be running late so if you do make an appointment, just be prepared for that possibility. I usually go somewhere else for my pedicures, but they're usually booked so far in advance. So while I don't appreciate the nail salon smell, I do love that I can relax in a massage chair, get my nails done, and don't have to talk to anyone. read more

I usually never go here because the wait is actually unbelievable, but I had no choice. When i arrived I waited about 20mins then I was sat to get a soak off followed by a basic manicure. My nails soaked for 2hrs and they were still trying to get me to soak my nails while they serviced other people. They care more about getting as many people in as possible over servicing the people they have there waiting. After having my hand in acetone for 2hrs I told the lady helping me to just remove the acrylic and file my nails and I would leave because I could not imagine sitting there another 2hrs. I understand a busy shop but they should learn a more functional way to run such a busy place. Probably the most inconvenient salon I have ever been too. Wasted time here. read more

First time getting a gel polish, was recommended here by a friend. I didn't have an appt. but I work nearby and called ahead and was told they could take me immediately. As soon as I walked in I was seated. They have an excellent colour selection and were very friendly and patient as I was new to the whole experience. Manicure and polish cost me only $32 plus tip. Literally one day later the gel started peeling. Understand I had gel nails with gel polish on top. Something I have been getting for YEARS. I have never had my nails peel. I recently when to City Star Nails for the first time for a gel manicure. My initial experience seemed fine. I walked in and was helped within a few minutes. My nail tech did a good job, although she wasn't very talkative. I left feeling satisfied with what I had paid for. It was not until after I left that I became dissatisfied with the quality of my manicure. It was not even a week before my manicure began to chip. I do not have a job that is hard on my hands nor do I do anything that would be particularly rough on them. I have received countless gel manicures in the past and all have gone at least two weeks before chipping. I also just experienced a very deep crack in my nail while putting on my boot which has never been a problem, especially after a gel manicure. My nail tech even commented on how strong my nails were! Overall, I am not sure if these were all fluke experiences or if the quality of the gel polish just wasn't up to par with other salons. Unfortunately, I do no think I will be returning to City Star Nails and will instead seek out a salon that is a little pricier but offers superior quality. read more

I honestly usually go here often. The man that works here does great work. However, I cannot day that for the rest of his staff. One day I came here with my mother to get 2 nail fills. When my mother went up the register to pay while my nails were drying, the nail tech tried lying to my mother stating that my nail were originally square and she made them coffin. So before my mother paid my mother said in front of the women "Aaliyah weren't your nails already coffin shaped?". The nail tech then went to say "Oh my bad, yes her nails were coffin" Very money motivated which isn't necessarily a good thing. The next time I went to get a full set of nails with french tips. The nail tech I had was an older woman with glasses. She was very unfriendly. She did not greet me. First, when she cut down the tips after she glued them on, they were varying in length. It was so bad to the point I asked her to take off one of the tips because it was so short and did not align correctly with my nails. She became irritated. When filing my nails, she could not maintain the shape of square that I asked for. She made them round. When I asked her to file them square, she gave me the file and told me to do it. She then started screaming in Chinese at all the other technicians and at me. I don't know what she said but I'm guessing it was angry because all the technicians care to look at my nails. She then stormed in the back room still screaming. Another technician decided to finish my nails, which she did a fantastic job! However, the other technician kept coming out of the back room to scream about my nails. She literally walked over to where I was getting my nails fixed and screamed at me and the technician doing my nails. I would not recommend this nail salon due to the fact that it is hit or miss in how your nails turn out. If you do go here, i definitely recommend the male nail technician.
