I don't remember any of this from the time I spent in Boston a number of years back. This is a very cool bikeway / walkway that extends quite a looooooong distance from downtown into the Jamaica Plain suburbs. If I lived here and had a bicycle, I'd be on this every day the weather was good. Super cool! Please note that there is a separate path for the bikes and the walkers, mkay?

But minus one star for occasional shady characters that make you want to avoid walking alone at night as well as the extremely high noise level, afforded by the passing Orange Line and Commuter Rail. Since I moved to JP last April, I discovered the amazing convenience of both the Orange Line and the SWC. They both give you a direct shot into the heart of Back Bay with little to no interference from vehicular traffic. The SWC is a chain of paths, parks and green space running from Forest Hills station to Back Bay Station, ending at Dartmouth Street. It's fun to appreciate that the park was actually built along the remnants of the old B&P Railroad line. A portion of the track space was salvaged for the existing O Line and Commuter Rail, but the rest was turned (thankfully) into a chain of bike and pedestrian paths, green space and recreational areas. Thank you Boston! If you ever take the time to walk, bike or run the entire span of the SWC (just under 5 miles) you will surely revel in the ample playgrounds, tennis courts, basketball courts, wading pools, roller hockey rinks, garden spaces, open grass and park benches that you never knew existed. I can't express enough my love of this little gem in the city. I can easily skip a T ride and run home from work along the miles of paved pathway or I can leisurely walk my dogs through the grassy areas, allowing them to stop and play with the oodles of other pups in the 'hood. All I'm waiting for now is to get a bike, and then I won't need the T at all! And to only think...the Southwest Corridor space was actually slated in the 60's to become an 8-12 lane HIGHWAY connecting I-95 and Rte. 128. Could you imagine the obscenity?! Even if you've never used the Corridor, I hope you can at least now appreciate that it isn't a highway. Get out and explore and enjoy it, please!

People of all ethnicities and faiths can and do gather as equals. I had taken the train in from New York City, where I live, the early morning run that is priced so temptingly that I select it even though I regret that when I must arise at 3:30am to make my way in the dark to catch it. Others like the option as well. Every seat was taken. That also meant, however, arriving far too early to check into the hotel. My wife and her college roommate were coming in from Cape Cod. Their ETA was after lunch. I was wondering what I would do on my own. It was a mile hike to where we were staying. This place is very close to South Station. They had all these Adirondack chairs. Only a few people were out. The weather was perfect: not cold, but not yet hot. You could sit out in the sun comfortably. That is a limited season, meant to be savored while it lasts. So I sat down to write and "people watch." A group of German tourists showed up. I should say German speaking; they could have been Austrian or from elsewhere. One of them, a woman, was coughing so much, it was one of those she's losing a lung sounds. I considered alighting from my perch. I figured we were outdoors and she was facing in the other direction. As of 24 hours late, I have not come down with anything. So that risk turns out to have been worth taking, though it is an indication of my laziness (it also would have seemed rude, since I would have settled down a greater distance away, and it would be apparent why I had departed, and people interpret these gestures differently, which is to say many are quick to take offense). Others were hanging out, reading, one sketching.

The tail end of the Greenway, Dewey Square Park is a small piece of green right under the start of…read morethe tunnel in front of South Station and the iconic Federal Reserve building. More than just grass, the Park is a little bit of rolling hill and grassy treed areas that isn't flat like the rest of the Greenway. Almost a proper forest, if you can turn out the sirens, honking horns and skyscrapers. It's a little bit of nature in the middle of a very big city.

I miss sitting at the Tercentenary Theatre (center of the Yard) for convocations and other events! I also miss seeing tourists taking photos in front of the Widener Library or Memorial Church. I miss visiting Houghton, Lamont, or walking by Wigglesworth or Bolyston! While I personally haven't been here since March, I cannot wait for the day when Harvard Yard returns to some level of pre-covid (or post-covid?) normalcy!

Six foot misting sculpture, fiber optic lighting, and a little pathway directly down to the water for you to dip your feet in as you watch water traffic roll by or view the Zakim bridge. So if you happen to be visiting your lover, be it in the prison or the hospital, make sure to take the time to recharge and refresh here along the historically rich esplanade.

It's frequented by skaters and picnicers in the good weather and offers several places to sit down and grab your lunch or take in the view and is located just a few minutes walk from the Museum of Science and just a few minutes more walk from the Garden and North Station. It's one of the nicer places in the city to get away from the urban crowding and sprawl.

The Boston National Historic Park is free, has its own mini museum/gift shop and will get you on the boat with a tour for free. Plus, you can get your National Park passport stamp here. You have to walk through a security checkpoint so keep that in mind as I saw a guy with a pocketknife not be allowed in. The USS Constitution is still a ship in the Navy Fleet, so the tour was led by a real Navy enlisted man. Sadly, my ladyfriend is claustrophobic so we didn't do the actual tour, we just walked around on the top deck. She is a party pooper but it was still cool to be on a ship built originally in the 1700s.

In the summer however, with more people coming out and using the path, I've been extremely unimpressed. Especially the end all the way towards Davis Square, there are dirty needles all over the ground everywhere you look on the sides of the path with blood soaked gauze from people using drugs and discarding their biohazards all over the path, forgetting the fact that there's trash cans all along the path. I walk my dog along the path and have to constantly watch out for both her and I and where we're walking and what's on the ground because of how disgustingly dangerous it is to step on something like this.
