This place always has demos for new products and has a great selection. Prices are reasonable too and the location is great. What I love most is the name though I think it's such a classic pun. The only reason it doesn't get the full 5 is the air conditioning either doesn't work or it's too low and it's often too hot in there for a lot of the wines to preserve their full potentials. I have been meaning to stop by this place for at least the last year and last night I finally did. Not only am I a sucker for cute pun names, I couldn't get over just about every YELP! review raving about the great service. The Team at City Sliquors didn't disappoint on my visit. The hubby was in the mood for some sangria and texted me to pick up some Carlo Rossi on my way home. We are talking the cheapest of the cheap stuff here. I didn't anticipate more than a directional finger when I asked where the Carlo Rossi jugs were but the guy behind the counter walked out from behind and stuck with me while I waited for hubby to confirm through text which one he wanted. He suggested that if making sangria, not to go with sangria but to go with paesano or ::I think:: zinfandel instead since the sangria is so sweet to begin with. Having had them all I completely agree with him but I sure appreciated that he was so willing to assist when I was in all likelihood picking up one of the lowest priced items in the store. This liquor store is down the street from my friend's place and became the last stop every evening. Yes, we thought we bought enough wine the first evening, but quickly realized we were dead wrong! The wine choices are plentiful and priced well. My only itty-bitty issue? The staff pays no attention. I love this liquor store for many reasons. From the outside it does seem a bit like a grocery or bodega, which you might easily just pass by and ignore. However, inside is where all the magic is -- it's well-organized, clean, and modern-looking. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. For example, they held a bottle of liquor for me until I arrived and seemed really cheerful and happy to help me. This place has a great selection of whiskeys, which you can't always find everywhere. Love my local liquor store! The staff is always so friendly and knowledgeable, and the owner Scott is awesome. When we were planning our wedding, we needed about 60 airplane-sized bottles of Jack Daniels for our gift bags. Not only did Scott order them for us, but he gave us a better price than we found anywhere else. He also called us to keep us updated on the delivery status since we had cut it a little close with our deadline. If there's one thing I like is a liquor store that will buy 100 proof Southern Comfort by the case for me to purchase. I asked every bar and liquor store about it for over a year and was told that 100 proof SoCo was a myth but I knew that it wasn't. I had seen it at a supermarket in LA! When this place opened I immediately asked the owner if he carried it and he said he didn't but said he could order a case of it and he'd start carrying it in a few weeks....what? really? Okay. Two weeks I was able to prove everyone one. It was not just a myth. Deliciousness did come in 100 proof! This place consists of friendly employees with great alcohol! The prices are decent and it's the only NICE looking alcohol store in this neighborhood. There is another one on Astoria Blvd, Dominique's but it is not like this place. If you need something to your taste, these people will help you. They are knowledgeable of what they are selling and they have a variety of excellent products. If you are looking for an alcohol set as a gift, they have those here too! What a great place! The owner and the staff have a passion for recommending a wine you may like with a meal. I think you can go in there and tell them you're having a bowl of dirt and they would know what wine you should drink with it. This shop is right around the corner from me so the convenience aspect can't be beat. They have a pretty solid selection of liquors. Bottles of booze can be pricey but it's pretty average for the city. Their wine selection is very good. I always can find an interesting bottle I've not tried before, which gets me excited. Overall, don't go here to save pennies, but the selection of fire water is solid and the employees are very friendly/helpful! What a DISGRACEFUL owner, we had a party and I stopped by the store to get few bottles of whiskey, my crowd likes Jack Daniels, we always do JD Nr 7 but I wanted to something better and different so picked another JD on the shelve for 59.99 and there was three bottles on the shelve, I asked him for discount to buy all three, he asked me for cash and pointed a fried chicken place across the street, I went and got cash and came right back......... but somehow wondering of my interest to buy all three bottles he got suspicious of my "crime" and while checking on the phone said that .... wow all the stores run out of this bottles and few online sell them for over $200 dollars, and he went over claiming that he knew why I was buying them, he said I was going to resell them for profit, so he said he is keeping them and refused to sell. Somehow I didn't know that Chinese had discovered the mind reading machine.... I was surprised that in 2019 USA the merchant can deprive a costumer to pay for a product on the shelve with the price tag sticker on the shelve with the name and description of the product (which I took the picture by the way) because he didn't know that other places selling that product for much more profit. I will preface this by saying that we live in the neighborhood and had been loyal customers of City Sliquors for many years. Note the word "had" is in the past tense. The one time, out of many purchases, we bought a bottle of wine that we thought was sour and tried to exchange it and the second bottle we had purchased, we were refused. After arguing, they finally exchanged one of the bottles. Bottom line, the customer service is terrible. If that's the way they treat a loyal customer, than they don't deserve our business. Convenient location, hours. But the layout of cramped, the service is a bit pushy and not well informed. The selection isn't bad, but the staff don't seem well informed about what they have. I wanted a single malt whiskey and the young man working there didn't know what that was! asked for an Italian prosecco under $20 and he recommended a Chablis by Almaden. I was not impressed. Great liquor store. I have been buying liquor there since it was opened by the original owner. The current owners have done an amazing job building on the former owners legacy. It is so nice to walk in there and be treated like a regular. They are dog friendly and are always happy to see my dog. They have an extensive line of wine and liquor and are more than happy to order any special items. When I asked if they knew about a particular bourbon, they went ahead and got it for me.
