We lost our home in the Eaton Fire and want to rebuild. We have family nearby, so we were fortunate to have found our temporary home at City Place near our family. They just completed the renovation for the dog park. It's beautiful, as well as spacious. It's functional for the pups and owners with water fountains, free poop bags, comfy benches, double gates to prevent pups from accidental escapes. You can tell that a lot of thought went into the creation of it. My apartment is close by and I see the happy dogs running around, catching balls, and saying hello to each other. It's also a lovely opportunity for residents to meet and catch up with each other. I feel fortunate to be here. read more

From my initial call with Vanessa and my appointment follow up call with Ginger to my actual visit with Tianna all interactions have been nothing less than pleasant and amazing. This review is not a reflection of the team but the building and management company itself. I was a resident for more than 2 years and Ginger and Rolando have been great to work with!!! To start, this building should not sell themselves as a luxury building. Their accommodations have been completely subpar. Their garage gates are constantly broke and single elevators down. There is only one elevator per building so once they are down, you have to take the stairwells up to your unit. Forget about it if you have a disability, stroller or even groceries on that day which happens to be often. On top of that building has had homeless lurking and even sleep in the elevator (see picture). I believe the management company is all about their bottom line and cares nothing about the safety and wellness of their tenants. For $3,000 in rent their are several buildings in the Pasadena area that are clean, safe and much more accommodating. Happy searching!! read more

Beautiful place and a wonderful staff! I visited a couple of weeks ago with my boyfriend and we fell in love with these units! They are so spacious and clean and updated. I love the pool area and the cute lobby. I spoke with an amazing young cute woman named Vanessa. She answered all of my questions cheerfully and was very personal and kind. Living at City Place has been a wonderful experience. It's a great location: on the quieter side of downtown, right next to Lake metro, in walking distance to all of the shops and restaurants. There's a dog run on the property and Playhouse Village dog park is just a few blocks away. The outdoor common spaces are beautiful. The pool and spa are well-maintained. Everyone who works at City Place has been very kind. Maintenance requests are resolved quickly. (Shout out to Luis and Omar--thank you for your excellent work!) City place calls themselves a luxury condominium but I don't see anything luxurious about it, other than it was built to be condos but bought out and became apartment rentals. The reason I'm giving this a two star is the location, price, amenities, the building and the staff. 1. Location: if you're looking for a place close to the metro and freeway this is a good place. It's 10 min walk to target and downtown area but you're still far from old town Pasadena. However, there a handful of homeless people wandering around the area, in the garage, trash, and in the building itself. 2. Price: We lived here for one year and when we first arrived, it was a fairly priced. They provided us with 2 months free and $1000 off. We moved in towards the later peak of Covid before the delta variant, this is probably a reason why prices were fairly priced. But now if you want to renew it's based month to month and increased rent by 40% or more. The prices here are ridiculous for what it is. The apartment prices are based on market prices, but greystar owns multiple apartment complexes for middle income range household. What makes city place an exception? I would look at other places before moving into the city place. If you look online the prices for a one apartment a 800sq ft is $3400 that's ridiculous. RENT INCREASED BY 40%. From last year, typically, other rental companies increase prices from 3-5%. If you go across the street as Pasadena gateway villa is $1100 less for the same sq ft and if you go into old town Pasadena apartments they're significant cheaper than city place. 3. Amenities: the pool is a good size, the gym is small and not many people use it, the bbq place is used often and one of the grills is always broken. If you live in building 3 you know the struggle of the parking garage gate. The back gate is always broken every other week (not a exaggeration) and it takes them about a minimum of 2 weeks and maximum 4 weeks to fix things.Every month there's an issue with the "fob key" if that's an issue than why not develop a better system. If you call yourselves luxurious, broken gates and faulty elevators should not be a REGULAR occurrence. 4. The building: noise cannot be heard from side to side but can be heard from upstairs but honestly not too bad. If you live in the outside near the streets you hear people chit chatting amplified in the apartment and cars with loud exhausts is annoying but you're closer to the street. There is always some sort of vandalism happening in this building because of the location of the apartment. For instances, someone smashed the elevator panels so they needed to replace the panel of the elevator, which took 2 weeks to fix. Bikes are often stolen even if they're on your balcony or in the garage. Amazon packages are often stolen. Despite adding an additional locker many large packages are left outside. 5. Staff: the maintenance staff 10/10, leasing office staff 7/10, staff that helps clean up the area and disinfects the elevators 10/10, Amazon, fedex and USPS staff 10/10. The leasing staff weren't helpful when it came to questions. They often disregarded my question for example, i asked what's the price if we renew our leasing contract. The response "how long are you going to lease? Also, we're not sure how much is going to cost it's just going to increase." That response was no help. That response in itself depicts the lack of urgency to retain residents. Overall, would I live here again? No. But I know people living here for 5+ years. It's just, what are you willing to sacrifice living here? It's not worth it. read more

Lived here for a year. The elevator was always broken as well as the back gate which can be frustrating considering the location of the apartment complex. When I first moved in there were soooo many apartment bugs (they look like roaches). I had to scrub the entire apartment with bleach because they make you pay for pest control. Upon moving out, because I had a roommate, there was extreme difficulties receiving/depositing the refund check. They refused to release the check to one individual and being that my roommate moved out of the country I pretty much lost all of my money. I have never had this problem at any other complex that I have lived at. I was also continuously charged a new account fee every month with my rent which was odd. 2 Stars because maintenance was always awesome and the front office was very responsive thanks to Ginger who is the sweetest lady ever. read more

My teenagers and I have lived here for 2 years and will be extending our lease another year. We absolutely love our modern and update unit. The staff is great and always helpful. Both Christina & Ginger are always willing to go above and beyond to help. Rolando and Ricardo quickly fix any maintenance issues we have. They always fix things in less than 24 hours. Norma is also great as well. She helps keep our building clean. The amenities are good, but we haven't been able to use them consistently because of Covid. This is no fault of City Place. They are just following rules. We love our unit and neighborhood. We feel safe in our building and look forward to staying another year! read more

This is a review for the rental/application process - we do not live here (thank god). We decided to apply at City Place because they are owned by alliance residential, which our last apartment was owned by. We had a lovely experience with our last property managers, loved the way the maintenance team was and all of the community events that the property held. It was wonderful (this was in San Jose CA). Moving back to Pasadena, we were looking for the same thing, and thought we had found that at City Place. But we were wrong! The rental application was normal - and we were notified by one of the leasing staff that she'd be sending us our welcome letter the following day - we were excited, bought our moving truck, got ready to get all our stuff and move in that very weekend. and then, JUST KIDDING, she let us know we weren't approved. Okay, fine, we had a collection that was holding us up, we were going to fix it and move in anyway (or so we thought). After some back and forth between us, the manager and the leasing agent we decided no we don't want to rent here. Communication was lacking and to be honest, we found a much nicer apartment elsewhere. SO I notified them that we would not be moving forward with the process. But here's the fun part - even though they rejected us they still took our $500 deposit. Now thats interesting, usually its policy to not take a deposit once a potential resident is rejected. Of course we were told some BS excuse about why it was withdrawn from our account over a week after we applied, and how we would be receiving our $500 back VIA MAIL 14-20 DAYS LATER. I have NEVER applied at a complex with this policy and I am kicking myself for not asking them HOW I would get my refund IF we were rejected when we applied. I'm also pissed that they were shady AF and STILL TOOK OUR MONEY. Screw you guys, this is not what an Alliance property should be like. read more

I am so sad to have to post a negative review as City Place has some really great attributes, honestly, I love the staff, location, and my apartment so much. The first reason for my review is the fact that the treadmills have been broken since October. They stick when you run and don't incline anymore. Someone could get seriously hurt! I brought this it management in December and they said they had only recently been made aware of this. They remain broken and they still stick. The second reason is the truly upsetting one. I loved the building so much I decided to move to a new unit which gave me more space and a better view. Immediately upon moving I found out I was paying above market price for my unit. I brought this up but no one ever addressed it with me. I had only been living in my previous unit for 8 months. Instead of transferring my security deposit to the new unit they made me pay a new one. I was okay with this as I didn't think I would have any deductions since I am a clean person and only hung some shelves and pictures in my place. I was wrong. Despite being told that I would probably get my full deposit back, they tried to deduct half my deposit for a full repaint, full cleaning, and carpet cleaning. I was floored. I had left the apartment in good condition, not perfect, but by no means $500 worth of painting and cleaning charges. I moved within the building and they still deducted my deposit to extreme excess. It has been 21 days and I still don't have a refund in my mailbox. I was so disappointed that they charged me to basically turn over my apartment. I love living at city place, but these practices have left a very bad taste in my mouth. I am a respectful tenant and if I knew I would be paying them to move I probably would have stayed in my unit. My advice would be, if your tenants are good to you, be good to them. I would like to note that the staff is so friendly and other than the above my experience had been positive. I feel I am a fair person and am saddened by the turn of events. read more

A quiet, clean, well maintained community which is also extremely close to downtown Pasadena, Lake Ave and Colorado Boulevard where you will find most of the things you would need or want... or desire? (command --/ delete the last word) Key word is "close to", not "in it". Not being in the center of everything creates the quiet and suburban vibe despite of the immediate proximity of it to the action. And yes, there's some action in Pasadena. Just keep swimming. City place actually has one of the largest pools in the area. I believe this is a very helpful piece of information for avid(ish) swimmers who do laps. The pool has a regular shape (almost a rectangle), so you don't have to swim from one tangent of a kidney to another. Or a bean. Or whatever your pool may look like in your imagination. Technical details which I hesitate to expose: (How do I show my appreciation without encouraging tons of people to move in here? I just don't like people in general. But I like to be around them at times) - Free coffee 9 am through 6 pm. (Pete's light roast, hazelnut, dark roast and so on) You will have to refill the water tank if the machine is out of water. This is ridiculously inconvenient and almost a deal breaker. You literally need to turn around, pick up the water pitcher and pour the water into the machine's tank for a few seconds until the "you need to add water" sign disappears. I know, you're already exhausted. - Free print outs in the computer room. (have some common sense, though. Don't take the whole forest down) - Did I say free coffee? - Free meeting room for your super serious, special and mind blowingly important meetings. - Free Electric Vehicle charging if they had one but they don't have it just yet. I still see a few hopeful Teslas in our subterranean, though. Those guys are the real city place lovers! It's like camping at a coffee shop not offering wifi, hence you have to use up your hotspot data. - Free stop n' chat sessions at the leasing office. My raw theory is that Ginger and Christina are probably recruits from a comedy club and they front as the "management team". They are extremely helpful, friendly in an East Coast manner (which I like and prefer), they go the extra hundred miles to keep the residents happy and the place an enjoyable, clean, safe community. A shout out for Nicole, too. She has moved to another state recently and not working here anymore but I thought she was great at what she was doing. If you just moved into the building and Ginger doesn't know you, and somehow you haven't met her yet; she is the person who will approach to you with a "good morning, lovely! Have we met before?" instead of an "Excuse me, sir! Do you live here?". If you don't mind, understand or appreciate the difference, it's still OK to live here. It's that you will be missing out a lot of the above. And they won't credit you for those missing moments you couldn't have caught. - Free and light-speed responses to work orders. Rolando and Steve almost arrive even before you submit your request for any type of repair. On a serious note; these guys are on it, at all times. Final notes to the corporate: (Dear, Yelp reader, you may leave now) - I have read the negative reviews about the deposits, elevator in Building 2. Hopefully you guys fixed that policy and the elevator for good. - The courtyard project took a little longer than expected. How about a "we're truly sorry for the inconvenience party" once it's complete? - Your amazing management team, the staff (Rolando, Steve and other troopers I can't seem to remember the names of... - they don't know mine. either so I don't feel bad-), the location of the building are the main reasons I had recently renewed my lease. This is a review about the current situation in building 2. For future renters, be aware of what the management thinks about your money, their money and your safety For the past few years the elevator in Building 2 is constantly down. Multiple people have gotten stuck in the elevator, some for close to an hour (due to the timing that it happens) Yet, there has been no long-term resolution. As of today, the elevator has been down for the past 5 days. It is a Sunday with no hopes of repair today. I doubt it will even be working tomorrow - which means a full week without a working elevator!!! We get an email with a useless suggestion for how to bring up groceries, and this morning a passive aggressive notice about it being down. Some of us heard that one of the maintenance workers was in the elevator and it plummeted 3 floors. In recent months the property has installed new rugs, repainted the halls, and they have started a massive renovation of the pool area - yet the elevator needs to be replaced. How about hiring a new company to "fix it?" How about installing a new working elevator? How about renovating the halls so the buildings "connect" in case this occurs in the future anywhere? How about spending money appropriately for a large number of current residents that have to walk up and down upwards of 6 flights multiple times? So for future renters: They might try to make the community more attractive to get you to rent, but once you are here, they won't care about making things better. read more

I was honestly shocked that there are negative reviews of the nature I'm reading. I'm another 5 year veteran of City Place with mostly good experiences to relate. To one person's point if you don't like living in busy areas then get off Pasadena's main streets. The manager, asst. mgr, and staff are friendly and efficient. The maintenance crew (Mario/Rolando/Norma) is prompt, very courteous, and good at what they do. The pool, jacuzzi, and other common areas are well maintained. They are all dog friendly, knowing my dog by name, and they do not allow smoking on premise but I do know that rule gets violated. The workout room is not huge but is useful and well maintained. The outdoor cookers are great! The patio / pool furniture is well maintained. The apartments are generally larger than those at other comparable places. Are they expensive? Yes, but most places in Pasadena that are worth their salt aren't cheap. Do garages in Pasadena have break-in's - yes - but City Place countered by adding periodic security. My truck had the GPS stolen at Trio so... I wish all these places would cover the place in security cameras so all moves are recorded! Absent that - periodic security acceptable. Gate code changes, while a pain, should occur a bit more frequently. I've lived in Holly Street (8 weeks transitioning here), City Place (14 months), Trio (1 year), and City Place (4 years). My next move will be when I purchase. Is it perfect? No but I do see effort from their staff, at least when I have sought help. 4 year resident. read more

I encountered her two times and she gave me really bad attitute both times. I just asked her about my lost amazon packages and she was very rude! I reviewed City Place a year and a half ago, and I stand by my initial review. It's a top-notch apartment building in a great area. Nicole, the current manager, is doing an incredible job--she's always helpful and friendly, and everything we need is taken care of promptly. Stephanie, the assistant business manager, is an amazing addition to the front office. She's also helpful, courteous, and has a beautiful smile every time I drop by. Cameron is the friendliest and nicest leasing agent to ever hold that position since my husband and I moved in here years ago. Rolando is always working hard every time we see him but never fails to say hello and stop for a minute to chat. I haven't officially met his new assistant, Byron, but he's also friendly. So obviously someone up there knows how to hire great people! The property continues to be well-kept, and visitors to my apartment never fail to be impressed by the beautiful lobby and by our great apartment. read more

The staff is amazing - very professional and attentive. The location is great - close to the highway and Gold metro line. Target is 2 blocks away; Ralph's is one block away. Old Town Pasadena is a 20 minute walk away. The common spaces are well taken care of - there's always coffee and iced tea in the common room. Pool and jacuzzi are great - pool is actually deep (6 ft). The new courtyard area is still being built but it's looking great so far - lounge/bbq area is covered by sails and lit by bistro lighting. read more

The community is quiet - you don't realize how big the apartment complex is until you come down to the pool area. The apartments are beautiful and rent was reasonable for the area. This review is for Alliance, and NOT the the management there--Ginger and Nicole are great and I would give them 5 stars! They really made our stay here wonderful. However, Alliance is not a fair management company. Alliance refused to give us our security deposit back, deducting for carpet stains and walls defects that were already in the apartment when we moved in! Luckily, I took photos of the apartment when we first moved in, and those photos have time stamps as proof they were there before we moved in. When I sent the photos to Alliance and asked that they not deduct for items that were already present upon moving in, there was only radio silence from them. I never heard back. Still haven't received our security deposit back, so I will be forced to take them to small claims court. What a disappointment. Looked Alliance up on the Better Business Bureau, and looks like this is a common theme with all residents--never giving security deposits back. UPDATE: The day after posting my initial review on February 27, 2017, I received an email from Alliance Corporate saying they would refund me the portion of the security deposit back for the unfair charges. Alliance did not reply to my multiple emails about the security deposit for weeks, and then the day after I post a Yelp review they respond immediately. Shows the quality of their customer service. Still have yet to received the "prompt" refund of our security deposit as promised... April 2017 Update: Finally received part of our security deposition back--just a little over $100. Don't expect to get your security deposit back when you live here. Consider the $500 gone forever once you pay it. read more

HAHA TODAY 5.30.12 The management told our movers they could not take the short route to move our stuff out of spite im sure when we moved in they asked us to take the short route...You will be informed soon residence of issues here even after we move.
