Ethan's Belly Boink - Crispy Pork Sisig

We stopped by Ethan's Belly Boink for dinner one evening, right as they were about to close, but…read morethey warmly welcomed us anyway. We ordered the sisig and the lechon, and both were outstanding, but the lechon truly blew us away. It had the most flavorful, juicy meat and the crispiest, most perfectly seasoned skin we've ever had in the US. It genuinely felt like a taste of home. The service was just as wonderful. Kristel was incredibly friendly and attentive, and we even got to meet the owner, Zaldy, who treated us like family. He even surprised our son with ice cream which was such a sweet and thoughtful gesture. The restaurant itself is clean, cozy, and has a welcoming vibe. We loved that they have karaoke too and we ended up singing along and had a great time. Ethan's Belly Boink is a true hidden gem. We'll definitely be back soon

I was looking forward to trying out Ethan's Belly Boink. Upon arrival I could sense a positive…read morelively vibe. I noticed they were having a birthday party which was awesome. The karaoke and food reminded me of my family gatherings. I'm half Filipino and my Filipino side of the family always knew how to throw a good party. Where there was Filipinos there was always karaoke and great food. So I was excited. I already knew there would be no seating so I was okay with taking it to go. The second I walked up to the register to order I could sense an unfriendly vibe from the lady at the counter. I'm not sure if she was just having a rough day or what, but it was definitely negative energy. I ordered the sisig bangus combo with white rice. Waited for about 10-15 mins which I didn't mind because like I said the karaoke vibes and seeing people at the party happy made me happy. When my food was ready she bagged my food up and held it out to me like here you go you can go now. I grabbed the bag and asked for "patis". She looked at me and said "I put soy sauce in there already." I repeated myself and asked for patis. Then she asked another lady and the other lady said they were out of patis. Which is kind of hard to believe. Knowing that Patis is huge when cooking and eating Filipino food. Okay fine they're out. So then I asked if I can have vinegar for my rice and sisig. She looked like she didn't want to even give me vinegar. Eventually she reached back and grabbed me a vinegar. There was so many sauces pre packed near the register. What was wrong with giving me some vinegar? After she gave me the vinegar I said "salamat" which means thank you. She just stared at me. Not even a "you're welcome." It's sad because I know any other day I would like this place. I just don't understand how you can let some people run the register knowing they have horrible customer service. Maybe she was having a rough day, but still you should treat your customers like you want them to return. On a side note the food is awesome. If I decide on coming back I hope I don't have to deal with that again.

So i am a bit confused about the photos here, because there is an actual restaurant looking place,…read moresome little cart and a food truck. Hopefully they are all related. My review is based on the food truck. It was my son's birthday. He was allowed to chose anything he wanted for dinner. Any price point... anything. Well i had seen this on Instagram and shared it with him two weeks prior. At first he wanted to go to Nobu or there were a few other high end options, but that is not his style honestly. Luckily, he remembered the post that I shared. He wanted to go here. Well, buckle up kids, we are going on a field trip! We left work/schools early and took a drive to Compton. When our navigation said we had arrived it suggested we park in the lot across from the library. Ok. There directly in front of the library was the food truck. There was a small line, so that was ideal. Not a long wait. My other smaller human and i went to wash their hands in the library. When i came out he had ordered the hungry man or something. It was more than enough for us. The oxtail was good. The ribs were good. The chicken was good. The cornbread was yummy. Just not over the moon for the greens... and i loooove collard greens. But that's ok. We went for the meats. They were out of the dinosaur ribs, so maybe if we go early enough next time, we can try those. We took it across the street to the park and ate and that was enough time for the small one to also play to get energy out before we headed home. The drive home was long, now that rush hour traffic had started. But none of us complained, because the meal was worth it.

This is one of very few places in L.A. where I will willingly wait in line for an hour to order and…read moreanother 30 minutes to get my food. If you've been to a popular BBQ place in the South, you're no stranger to the lines. I've been to APL at two pop-up locations: Ayara Thai in Westchester & Gin Rummy in MDR/Venice. The latter (and current) location, Gin Rummy, has seating, so it's a better experience. Ayara is a Michelin-listed Thai place, but Chef Adam was serving out of the back & there was no seating. So far, Ive tried the burnt ends (9/10), beef ribs (9/10), lamb chops (9/10), and pork ribs (7.5/10). To put this in perspective, I would not score any of these items anywhere else in L.A. higher than a 7/10. Yes, some of the sauce can be overly-sweet, but the craftsmanship that goes into smoking the meat is unparalleled in L.A. And, yes- I have a charcoal smoker at home and make decent brisket and ribs. As other reviewers have mentioned, prices are high, portions are large, and there's almost always a wait, so best to go with a party of 4 or larger so that you can sample more of the menu. And, they should add one more order kiosk and add one more person to cut the meat in order to move the line quicker. I could eat this BBQ every week. Bon Appétit!

Wow. This was easily the best meat I've had in Los Angeles…read more The pork ribs and beef ribs were out of this world -- tender, juicy, smoky, and cooked to perfection. Every bite felt like it was made with passion and precision. Chef Adam isn't just making BBQ, he's creating art. Amazing food, great presentation, and a fantastic experience from start to finish. Highly recommend. We'll definitely be back.
