Our party of eight came back to dine here again. We enjoyed the food last time, and liked this experience as well. We started off with a round of drinks. Most of us had beer, but a few of the ladies preferred beverages with vodka. For lunch, my wife selected the Pulled Pork Nachos. It was a very generous portion! While she enjoyed them, she couldn't eat it all. The rest of the ladies opted for the soup of the day. Several of the men (including me) opted for the Flounder platter. It was amazingly good. One gentleman sitting next me had the meatloaf special. It came with mashed potatoes and green beans. He also got hush puppies with his meal. He enjoyed it all! The brisket was amazing. The smoke flavor went all the way through the slice and it was tender. The chicken was fall off the bone tender and juicy. Then to top off a great lunch we had the apple crisp. It was flavorful but not overly sweet. We will be definitely coming back. read more

After sitting down the owner noticed me and my wife looking at some of their shirts for saleCatfish and came over to talk to us, without hesitation asked us our shirt sizes and went and gave us two shirts! Our family was visiting from Raleigh, NC at one of the local camp grounds. We were exhausted from driving and it was late we were expecting anything just to fill our tummy's BUT little did we know we were about to have the VERY BEST burger we had EVER had! Staff was SO incredibly nice and food was so fresh even though they were about to close in 15 minutes!!!!! Found this place by looking on Apple Maps for a nearby restaurant in between hikes and I was worth the side trip food. Cute little restaurant (670 On Oak) next to drive up for those that want an inside dinning experience. Food was good, even got more wings than we ordered. Tater tots were outstanding. Clearly a family owned restaurant from the interaction of the staff, and the customer service makes Chick-Fil-A seem like a McDonald's. read more

Okay guys all you need to know is this place is amazing. Definitely stop by if you are in the area. I talked to the owners about the location and area and had a great time seeing the area they've built. They built a beautiful bar and have a Garden. Lots of tables for sitting outside and just a beautiful space-unfortunately I was so excited about everything around me that I forgot to take pics of my food! Haha I had the tator tots and a BLT (without the B). It was delish. Actually I got an order of fries to go because the tots were so good and I've really been missing food in general-staying in Bakersville with limited options-so I was really happy to find this place! Charming atmosphere. Hightops and regular tables. Also side porch with tables. More sitting than you imagine from the outside. Full bar and the server/ bartender made a tasty old fashioned. Enjoyed an early dinner here today. My dining partner and I split a double cheeseburger and a basket of the Sidewinder fries. The burger was big and fries portion most generous. She is a very light eater, but we finished it all! And loved, loved the Sidewinders. Burger was maybe a bit overdone, but still hit the spot with sloppy deliciousness. Highly recommend. The City Drive-in is a diamond in the rough. I had a hamburger (that rivaled the Cardinal in Boone) and my husband had the Chuckwagon - which we both thoroughly enjoyed. I got the pick two seafood platter ( crab cakes and shrimp ) i personally would have liked the option of grilled or fried but it was good anyway! The crab cake seemed homemade and was also good. The coleslaw was sweet - I'm not sure if that's a good thing or bad thing bc I don't really eat it. The hush puppies were good and my husbands pulled pork was great too! We were all pleased with our meals. The only issue is upon the check being returned the correct change was not given, $5 was not given. Everyone was super nice! Absolutely loved this place! The atmosphere was fun, the food was amazing, the service incredible! we had 3 young kids and our dog and it was the best! Everyone was so welcoming and friendly. The curb service is a cool plus. They also have some seating under a pavilion. The burgers were big and tasty. The sides were dinner staples, fries, onion rings, and tots. All came out hot and crisp. Feel like I was mislead by the good reviews. Was literally probably the worst hit dog I've had at a restaurant. Boiled wiener...bleh. Soggy bun....bleh. Terrible ketchup...eek. No unsweetened tea...only sweet available. $8 for a hot dog meal isn't a great deal. Wife had a burger and she said it was good....and one would hope at a la carte price if $6 bucks. Float was $4.25. As a local, I am fortunate to live close by and can eat at the City most Saturday nights. We come for the atmosphere and the best ribs this side of St. Louis. Mike knows what he is doing when it comes to cooking ribs. They are mouthwatering, fall of the bone delicious and are accompanied by a fantastic BBQ sauce. The price is unbeatable! It was a bit pricey (about 6 bucks with tax)but very good.....and it came with a narrow straw that was impossible to drink the shake out of..how annoying.
