This place is a pretty nice. It is a large facility and there is a lot of seating spread out, so there is plenty of room for a lot of people. Also an outdoor area. They have a large selection of wine and beer to choose from. The bar is spacious and welcoming. There are usually around 12 different beers on tap. The bartenders are really nice and helpful. They are knowledgeable as well. If you're ever in town, I recommend taking a stop here to try it out. read more

Stumbled upon here after hiking in Linville Falls for the day on a Saturday. Stopped in and had a delicious cider that tasted like fall (called Spice Mountain) and then got some local crackers and mango sriracha hummus that was delicious. Great vibe for the bottle shop and taproom, although it was a little dark. The menu was a scrolling screen so be sure you see all your options. Friendly staff gave us samples and gave us plates, napkins and a knife for our food as well as cleaned up after us. There is a discount wall too so be sure to check it out! read more

We almost always make a stop at Brown Mountain when we're in Morganton -- it's a great book end to Fonta Flora, who closes a little earlier than Brown Mountain some nights. They have a great beer selection both on draft and in bottles and cans, tasty treats to munch on (check out Poppy's popcorn from Asheville) and their space is beautifully designed and comfortable. It's easy to hang out here for hours! Brown Mountain Bottleworks turned 3-years old yesterday and we were lucky enough to help them celebrate! They rolled out the red carpet with Cold Mountain (my most favorite beer!) a plenty, raffle prizes on the half hour (we won a gift pack from New Holland!), a food truck and live music. read more

No trip to Morganton is complete without hitting this place. Their tap list has something for everyone, plenty of seating and a neighborhood feel although many of the patrons are from out of town. Typically when Fonta Flora does a release we head over to Brown Mountain afterwards to talk more beer, have something new from the area meanwhile running into those we just met over at Fonta. The older gentleman behind the bar is always helpful and kind. The only thing I would add to this place is some type of roof or awning on the back patio. Friendly, fun and a great environment. Stopped in with some friends when traveling and tried a flight of beers and ciders. Bartender was knowledgeable and great, but didn't crowd us. They have a absolutely fantastic variety of local and not so local brews. We left with some goodies for the rest of our vacation which I was super excited about. I wish we lived closer so we could be members of their beer club, which looked really cool. This is a great little place and we will definitely stop in again when we are back in Morganton! read more

Really neat place! You can tell someone put a lot of thought and money into the space. Even the swag for sale looks high quality/high dollar. The space has one of those simultaneously cool and warm vibes. The entire left side is just shelf after shelf of bottled beer, with a selection ranging from Evil Twin to Pisgah Brewing. On the right is a bar with about 8 taps. I was impressed to see Nebraska IPA on tap and multiple offerings from a recent Skull Camp tap takeover. When I was there, the outdoor seating area out front was being prepared with railings being installed. The owner is super nice, laid back and ready to open the throttle this summer, as they have just recently opened their doors this past November. Annual membership is only a dollar. They also offer growlers. If you're in Morganton stop here first before moving on to Fonta Flora, Catawba and Wisteria, to get the full "brew tour" experience. read more

Brown Mountain Bottleworks is a nice addition to Morganton as they have a great beer selection for purchase, knowledgable staff eager to help, and live music events and tastings regularly. Brought to you by a pair of brothers, Kory and Collin Suttles, both ambitious and enthusiastic about [craft] beers, BMBW is going to be a landmark stop for libations in this small town. I went here for a live music event ( New Year's Eve to be exact!) and I did find it odd that they had not secured their license to sell beer and liquor yet. However, since they had delicious and unique local hard ciders on tap, this was not a problem, and they promised that they were about to get the licensing worked out. (Apparently, if an establishment wants to sell alcohol, they also have to sell food, or the other option is to become a "member club" with a nominal annual fee, all "members" can drink). So, I am rating this place based on its potential, and what it would serve now as of January 2015, rather than knocking it for not having alcohol **on the world's most celebrated drinking day! ** Haha! I loved the Village Tart Cherry Cider. Wonderful to have local apples and cherries in a cider! Now, about one or two months since opening, they have a HUGE selection, available in bottles to purchase, growlers to take home, cans, etc. Plus some cheeses and meats, and non-alcoholic beverages. Brown Mountain is a fantastic bottle shop located in Sleepy Morganton. It's spacious, always clean, has 12 rotating taps to enjoy at their beautiful wood bar, and the bottle selection is plentiful and super unique. The bartenders are always knowledgeable about what they have on tap and are happy to make recommendations or just let you decide for yourself. If you're here for beer, like so many others are, Brown Mountain should be a stop on your Morganton journey. Now that I'm reading through other yelp reviews here, I had no idea they had snacks! We stumbled upon this place for a couple brews, but I didn't expect to see the massive selection of beer to take home. It's like half beer bar, half craft beer store. I ordered the Little Ass #3 by Ass Clown Brewing Company (just for the name, to be honest). It was a delightful sour, but I wasn't completely amazed by it. My second choice -- Winterqueen, a cranberry/ginger saison was much more memorable. The beer tender helping us that evening was probably my favorite part of the experience. I did my usual brewery sticker swap and the sticker he gave me was one of the coolest I've ever seen...which then led to me purchasing one of their shirts. They also were selling bottles of a recent bottle release from Fonta Flora that I didn't see when we went visited the brewery, so I naturally bought that as well. Lastly, he dropped the tidbit that there was a brewery within walking distance serving a peanut butter and jelly beer. Sold! That was our next stop. read more

This place is amazing! We were in town for a wedding and randomly stumbled into this place in Downtown Morganton on a Friday afternoon. Great beer selection from near and far, knowledgeable and extremely helpful staff (thanks Collin!). The actual space itself is beautiful - the floors and concrete countertops (I just redid my kitchen. Can you tell ;) ) As a previous Yelper said - you have to become a member for a very nominal fee (emphasis on the very), but only one person in your group has to have it. They have a variety of beers on tap, but you can also grab singles from the case or six-packs to either drink there or to go. And growlers too! This is a cool place inside, but it is just missing quite a lot. Bartender could have cared less that we were there. We were looking to engage in conversation on possibly where to eat dinner as we were passing through. Beer selection was weak. They do have a decent to-go selection. Not much reason to go back. Had a great first experience here! They have a rotating tap of 10 beers all from NC. Lots of choices for bottled/canned beer and wine to drink there or take home. The atmosphere was relaxed on a weekday, but I could imagine it gets busier and more upbeat on weekends. They had an area for live music.
