While staying in Arcata, we called to get a taxi upon the advice of the front desk. We were quoted 30-40 minutes, which wasn't too bad considering it was a small down and a Friday night. After 50 minutes I called back, was told by dispatch they were sending someone 'right now'. After another 20 minutes I saw another cab company pull up outside while I was on hold with a new dispatcher trying to figure out what was going on. City Cab had actually called a different cab company (Plaza Cab) to come get us because they weren't able to get to us for more than an hour of promising us. Plaza cab was GREAT, I'll post a review for them. The only GOOD experience with City Cab was the fact that they saved me the trouble of having to call someone else by doing it for me. read more

I was a bit nervous reading the other reviews, but I had nothing short of a great experience with City Cab. I called around dinner time and they showed up (actually walked up and knocked on the door) in less than ten minutes. Cheap, quick, and pleasant ride, and even got some great local suggestions. I was forced to use City Cab because I had no other choice on a Monday morning at 7:30 am despite the warnings from other Yelpers. Dispatch was perfectly pleasant. Car arrived at my hotel on time (I scheduled it the night before) and driver was a very friendly woman. Not sure about the other negative reviews... maybe drunk college kids that cabbies don't like dealing with. Note that this was a scheduled pick up early on a weekday; may be why the service was good. Just felt I should let people know this is a perfectly reasonable option for ground transportation. read more

City cab is actually a very pleasant company to use, although they can seem like airheads at times. Most problems are caused by a miscommunication or plain forgetfulness on the part of the dispatchers, but they are not bad at their job. The drivers themselves are the most friendly people you'll ever meet, as well. I've been a regular customer for a year now, and the quality of their service has never declined. Just keep in mind that they get busy often, and if their cabs aren't tied up, dispatch could still be very busy with other calls within the area, as they are in charge of our ambulances as well. Your call for a pickup can range from 15-30 minutes, even up to an hour on busy days. So always call ahead of time! Even just an hour at the least can make the whole process smoother! If the reviews previous are of any indication, id say their management and service in general has really improved, so don't feel anxious to give them a call! read more

I've taken City Cab twice from Humboldt State and both times they arrived on time and the drivers were very courteous. Just make sure you give them plenty of notice prior to pick up. read more

Good cab company with a responsive dispatcher and professional drivers driving clean cars.

Called at 5:45AM for a short 5 minute ride (usually $15 fare) from an Arcata residence to the Arcata Bus Terminal. The dispatcher said it would be 20 minutes. Never had a problem before, but this day was different. After waiting 30 minutes, I called the dispatcher. He tried making radio contact with the driver but was unsuccessful. I asked him to call the cab driver on their cell phone. That was when the conversation soured. Supposedly, not all of their drivers have cell phones. Seriously, 2013 and City Cab drivers don't all have cell phones! Needless to say, my itinerary was compromised. read more

Awful. The dispatcher initially quoted 45 minutes. After an hour the dispatcher quoted 20 minutes. After 20 minutes the dispatcher quoted 15 minutes. There were no apologies and no explanations, just unashamedly rude, disrespectful dispatchers that seem to take pleasure in causing you as much discomfort as possible. I was a driver for Dial A Ride. The company would not repair defrosters, turn signals, lift problems, etc. I got carbon monoxide poisoning from one of their buses. I reported it, they supposedly repaired it, but the next time I got the bus, the same problem. I was refused another bus so I quit. read more

This is the weirdest company I have ever done business with. The drivers are AMAZING always funny and genuinely seem to care about thier fares and most seem to remember repeat customers and welcome them back with smiles. However the dispatchers seem to hate dealing with the public. They repeatedly misquote times for pick up and even when I have scheduled pickups hours in advance they are still late. The worst part was today when i scheduled a pick up the dispatcher transfers me to a supervisor who promises to call back after dealing with a rude dispatcher and a no show costing me time and money because of course I still have to pay for my Dr appointment deductible for missing the appointment they don't call back like they promise. My advice plan to take the local bus its faster and cheaper. And my advice to the owner of this company who honestly is probably to rich to care about a bad experiance by a customer fire your lazy dispatchers and get people in there who actually care about customers. read more

Don't listen to the negative reviews about Eureka City Cab. I called them from Comfort Inn and they came in the time that they had said. The drivers were courteous and clean cut and drove safely and speedily to my destination downtown. The rate was reasonable and the cars were nice and clean. Great cab! read more

Called City Cab from San Diego when my son (student at HSU) was stranded at the hospital on pain meds, without his cell or wallet, and no way to get home. They sent a taxi to pick him up right away, took my credit card info over the phone, and got him back to campus quickly. Couldn't have asked for more - thanks for handling this unusual situation courteously and quickly. read more

I called the evening before to schedule a pickup at 11 a.m. the next day. "Spencer" arrived exactly on time. He was professional and friendly. He took me to the Arcata Airport with no problem. I called for a cab at 8:45 a.m. and requested a pick up for 10:30 a.m. At 10:25 a.m., there was honking outside my apartment. I figured this may just be the usual traffic on the street as I live near an alley and near Old Town and just lots of commotion. But three minutes later, there was more honking. And I realized it was the cab driver who showed up early and was too lazy to walk fifteen feet to knock on my apartment door. I gave the driver the address and we were off. When I asked him to turn into a driveway, he corrected me saying, This isn't the right address. It's not what you said. Well dear sir, I am sorry I mayhaps switched two numbers around, but when I ask you, politely, to turn into the driveway, please do so without trying to tell me that I don't know where I am going. read more

Wish I could rate less than one star. City Cab is the most horrible cab company. They are so extremely rude and unreliable. When you call City Cab plan to be sassed on the phone and questioned about your activities to see if they are agreeable to City Cab's laundry list of reasons to refuse service (drinking, taking the bus, location, time, etc.). They are always late, so forget trying to get to somewhere on time, ever. Also forget getting any notification that you cab is "here", they ask for your number to just sit there for a minute and drive off anyway. Not to mention, if it's a Friday or Saturday night downtown and you need a sober ride, you should plan to wait hours, if City Cab comes at all. Don't think for a second you could schedule a pickup ahead of time because they "don't do that" for ANY bars (even if it happens to be a restaurant also). I guess it's good for business for them if more people drink and drive, since they are the same company that runs the ambulance ($$$$!!!). Disgusting ethics. Well, I wish I could report positive news. The dispatcher was not rude at all, but the cab was over 40 minutes late. After calling after 20 minutes, I was told the cab was leaving a site about 15 minutes away. It appears that the infrequency of fares probably keeps City Cab's fleet to a minimum, but based on these many reviews, they should get a couple more taxis with drivers familiar with the busiest areas. I work on the campus of Humboldt State University, which has its own geographic quirks, but anyone living in Arcata/Eureka/McKinleyville should be well aware of a place that deals with half the Arcata population. Another cab company is needed in the area. read more

The dispatcher guy that answered the phone was seriously the biggest D*ck on the planet. Female friend got stranded on an isolated road at midnight and her cell was about to die. I called on her behalf since her cell probably would have died in mid conversation. She was so scared & for whatever reason called me for help. Convo with jerk was going ok until he asked where I was going. I said that my friend was going to the nearest hotel but I'm not sure which one since I'm calling on her behalf. He then tells me she needed to call him and not me. I explained the situation and he had an attitude about it like I was totally inconveniencing him. He flat out tells me he isn t doing jack until she calls. I asked him if he could at least get her location from me since her cell will probably die now & again back with the attitude, "YES I have the address"!!! Still cannot believe how someone would not take this bad situation into consideration. Seriously ur job consist of ppl calling in with an address for a car to come pick them up, that's it!!! Why make something SO SIMPLE so difficult? I am still in shock. Friend had to knock on someone's door at 1am. Luckily these ppl where nice and opened the door & let her come in & charge her cell so she could call this worthless cab company, u know the same thing i was trying to do an hour ago!
