City Cab gave me a ride in the past to a surgery and to another medical procedure, and more recently too. It is uncertain why they would not let me take City Cab home. She was on time, and she would have walked me to my door after the surgery, but I was required to have a friend take time from their job to pick me up after surgery or from any procedure where I had to be asleep. Dealing with out of the country people answering the phone and seeing the bad reviews here I made sure I called three times to confirm in advance, including the day before. These out of the country answering services are difficult to understand, so one has to say each letter with a word. For instance, D for David, r for Randy, etc and ask them to speak slowly and precisely for us to understand their strong foreign accents. Then, I ask them to repeat each thing I say back to me. After the struggle with communications, if they arrived even 10 minutes late, I was prepared to drive myself in my own car and pay somebody to drive me to pick up my car the following day rather than be late. To my surprise it all went very smoothly, as it always did in the past with City Cab. Once the lovely and personable lady driving City Cab arrived exactly on time to pick me up, it was like night and day from the answering service in the Philippians or ?. This very nice City Cab driver seemed familiar to me. Perhaps I got this same excellent City Cab driver years before for a ride to another medical surgery or procedure. I will continue to use City Cab in the future. However, I will continue to confirm twice or three times before (always writing down each name ~ making them spell it) as I hate that the USA has outsourced our phone jobs to other countries making it more challenging for us to understand what they are saying. read more

The drivers are inconsiderate cuss, and have a hard time counting and now that the dispatches is from the Philippines, you can barely understand what they have to say. I have used City Cab times in the last couple of years and it has always been a very positive experience! They have always been on time or even a little early, took care of my walkers and canes, and were always very personable. Well today I arrived at the hospital with a person needing emergency care, while I was inside grabbing a wheelchair which took all of 30seconds I come out to a city cab driver asking how long I'm going to be there in the patient drop off area, which has a ten minute limit (I was in and moved in less than 3mins). I got my passenger out as he's saying he cannot make it through the one lane drop off (I wonder why). He then proceeded to park in front of the only small ramp for wheelchair access. He proceeded to ask how long I was going to be because he needed to leave soon. I told him I was dropping off a patient and that he could back out if he was in that much of a rush. His attitude was rude, rushed, selfish, arrogant and unempathetic towards any human but his fare. When I left he smirked at me and so I admittedly flipped him off. Hence why some businesses will never get my money or recommendations. Key take away for the driver if you are at a single lane hospital patient drop off, have a little patience for those arriving for medical treatment. read more

Holy shit fuck City Cab! On April 7, 2024, around midnight, I called City Cab for a ride from The Shanty to my home. The driver at one point took a left turn so hard, that I completely fell over and all my shit in my purse did too. When we arrived at my home, I could not find my phone and went inside to get a flashlight for the driver to look in the vehicle. He seemed to look. But no phone. Which made no sense. I was holding it when he arrived to pick me up. Our phone calls that morning were met with "you have to go to the office on Monday morning." Which I did. Well that was a fucking experience. The only office in that building is also staffed by the one person who takes ambulance calls and told me to go away. That's the only public door on that building. So I waited a few to hopefully catch....anyone? Which I did. Dave Bautista look-alike who was friendly and attempted to look through a mini van that MAY have been mine? (What the fucking fuck?) No phone. And not any follow up or interest from anyone at the entire operation. I mean what do we expect from the people who charged me $1,000 to drive my son 2 blocks to the hospital? Anyhoo. We had "insurance" which replaced my phone for $300+. GUESS WHO CALLED US TODAY BECAUSE THEY FOUND MY PHONE UNDER THE DRIVER'S SEAT?! "Yuck yuck. He musta turned pretty good for it to get lodged there!" Yeah no shit! I was thrown in the vehicle! SO one of the less glamorous aspects of airborne medical transport is getting from the airport to the hospital. Typically when we land at an airport we are met by an ambulance and its crew. We asses the ambulance and load in all of our gear (which is extensive as transporting a 25 pound child requires about 1000 pounds of medical crap) and off we go. However often in rural communities, there may be only 1-2 ambulances available for the entire county. Thus if we occupy 50% or even 100% of a communities ambulance capacity the rest of the community is at risk. (The exception to this is the city of Reno which despite extra capacity simply refuses but that is a whole nother rant for another time). Cabs are not ambulances so we have to go through all kind of contortions to load heavy and expensive medical gear (our setup tops at at over $100,000) in a haphazard way to get going. Such was the case here. That being said our driver for the day was Matt. Matt was friendly and personable for the entire ride. He got us safely to the hospital (25 minute drive) and his driving was impeccable. For us most importantly he was On Time and he helped us load ALL of our gear. We often have our drivers balk and have to do it ourselves but Matt was all over helping us load and unload at our destination. City Cab is spotty at best. I've had the driver abandon me, though I've never missed a ride, and they won't do scheduled pick-ups. They use an overseas call center with extremely rude operators, and the service has decreased significantly. If I ever have the opportunity to choose another company, I will. read more

Don picked us up at our destination after being 20 minutes late for scheduled pickup. His car was really clean and no odd odors. The ride itself was fine. When we went to pay he ran our card and said it was declined. After he double checked with dispatch it turned out the card actually wasn't declined, but it was charged. This company has a monopoly in our county. They own citi ambulance service, Dial a ride and Citi Cab. First let me say that some of the individual drivers are very nice and don't smell. . But this is few and far between. I have the business cards of three drivers I will use, two of whom I think are also ambulance drivers. have had drivers who reeked to high heaven from cigarettes and The dispatchers have got to be the most condescending, disrespectful, rude people I have ever come across. I have had dispatchers neglect to issue calls leaving me stranded for a few hours and when I would call back to check on my ride the dispatchers would yell at me or hang up on me or tell me I had never ordered a cab to begin with. I have had drivers that assumed I don't know my city and they have taken the long way to my destination. The last ride I got, the driver had a stink on him that was eye watering and made me gag all the way to my destination. A few months ago I was being discharged from St Joes hospital and needed a ride to Arcata. The Emergency room clerk called them for a ride for me at 3 in the afternoon. After 3 calls a car finally arrived at 6:30 PM and it was not even MY cab! It was a cab picking up a woman who had called for a cab a half hour after I had! The driver agreed to take us both and charged me separately from her, so I had to pay him for a ride from cutten to Arcata instead of from St joes to my home. The ambulance service is questionable as well. I have had Ambulance workers be so rigitd and rude that they made a painful situation much worse.The dispatcher for the ambulances is the same as the dispatcher for the cab. DIal a ride drivers are nice but again the dispatchers are rude and talk to people on the phone like they are idiots... I can not reccomend this company to anyone. The lady with broken English who works answering the phones for night shift is beyond RUDE. This is the second time I've had a problem with her now . The first time it took about 2 hours for my cab to arrive and then when I go outside there was no cab . Mind you it was middle of the night and also I take city cab at least 4 times a week. I go back inside to be safe and call her up and she insists that the cab was out front when it clearly wasn't and then proceeded to tell me that I will be charged $5 for not taking the cab that wasn't even there and then hung up on me . 2 minutes later the cab rolls by and apologizes says he was on the wrong street . The second time I had a problem with her , I call up to order a cab and then she tells me I have a $10 fee for not showing up for a cab on a day I never booked and wasn't even in town that day ! I've never had problems with city cab except for this lady SHE SHOULD BE FIRED it's making their business look bad hiring people like that. Since the pandemic i won't ride the buses. It bothers me to ask friends for rides so I've been taking cabs for about 3 months. So far all drivers have been nice, polite. Cabs clean, no bad smells. I'm 67, disabled and use a rolling suitcase when I go anywhere. Most drivers put it in the trunk without asking. Most take the same short route to and from my home. No added miles. The problems I have are: Dispatcher says I can't call ahead for a ride in an hour. I was walking to a store and knew if i waited till I was ready for a taxi i would wait a minium of an hour, usually more. So when i was done at the store I called was told 45 minutes. It was 90 minutes. Maybe once it was 45 minutes but usuallly an hour+. The other day I called at 4:30p.m. for a ride from the mall home. Was told is 45 minutes ok? I said yes. What choice did I have? I waited 2 hours and 55 minutes in 45degrees, I called several times. First got a lady later a guy. Shift change I guess. The guy did call me to say the driver will be there in 5 minutes. He was. The driver was nice. He had just come on duty. The temperature outside was 41 degrees when I got in the taxi. I had been standing at the curb or sitting on a metal bench for 3 hours. I don't see how they had more rides before my first call for it to take 3 hours. Its always $8.25 one way. Why is the ambulance and taxi on same dispatch system? Seems seperating them would be safer and less time consuming. We need lift/uber back, some competition. read more

I have been in need of a taxi at least six times during the past 4 months. The only way you can be assured of one is to call one day in advance. If you are stranded or in need of a taxi within a 1-3 hr. time period, you can forget it.They will not be available. If you were ever in a threatening position, don't call them, they will not be there. Everything changed after the pandemic.The times I planned a day in advance, I found the drivers to be very personable and courteous.If you try to call an uber, they won't even answer. Looking at the other reviews, I wasn't looking forward to having to use City Cab's service. But, being the only cab company in Eureka, I had no other choice. I called at noon and scheduled a pickup for early the next morning. To my surprise, both the dispatch people I talked to were very friendly. The call went smoothly. And then, the time arrived and the driver was a couple minutes early! No wait at all. He was polite and worthy of a tip. The vehicle was also nice. So this made me think.. Really, when you use a cab company and all goes well, do you run to Yelp to write a review on how everything worked just as it was meant to? Probably not, I'm only writing this because my experience was far better than the other reviews. So, I'm thinking that most of the time a person would only write a review if the experience was bad in some way. I cannot understate how awful of an experience I have had tonight with this service. After waiting 50 minutes for a cab that they said should take 25-45 minutes, I decided to call another service. I called later as they are our only option to travel from Arcata to Eureka at that time, and they said 25-30 minutes....before NEVER showing up or giving us a call. There are several problems with using City Cab. Major problem is that they charge too much, with the first mile being $5.95 with a $3.50 charge each additional mile. Part of that charge in the first mile is the $2.80 fee for getting the cab in the first place. And if one is trying to get around in Fortuna, there is a $35.00 flat rate no matter how long the trip inside Fortuna...the regular meter rates apply if one is taking a cab out of Fortuna. And if one calls a cab and decides to cancel the trip when the cab arrives, the driver will insist that the $2.80 charge be collected...and it was not posted anywhere on the windows of the cab. Should one wind up in need of a cab when they are drunk and may need to throw up or even spill their drink during the trip, there is at least another $25.00 charged as a cleaning fee. Other problems include rude dispatchers and that many of them are pretty mean to customers on the phone, especially the overnight dispatchers, where I have heard many customers complain about how they were treated. Word has it that the City of Eureka has made City Cab the only taxi company out there that can pick up passengers inside city limits, which gives customers a limited selection and given that it is far cheaper to use Uber when it is available, one is better off taking Uber. For instance, a ride on Uber from downtown Eureka to Murray Field is $4.00 while taking City cab costs three times as much. Until there are better choices in Eureka, one may consider that Uber by far is a better option than City Cab until any restriction is lifted on outfits like Cab Louie or Plaza Cab from picking up fairs inside Eureka city limits. read more

Word on the street is this cab company doesn't pay well enough, so there are not enough drivers. I started taking the bus and once uber drivers start coming back to work, take that. or Plaza cab or Louie Cab, although they aren't available. Yes. Their dispatcher is rude. Or at least the one I spoke with was. Driver? Pleasant. Maybe not overly friendly, but make the experience definitely comfortable. I think he is usually a dispatcher, but was driving because of the high volume. I also felt safe as a passenger. No crazy turns or abuse of either pedal. It was new years eve at around 1 AM. I called, their dispatcher was very short with me, but I knew they would be up to their ears in calls, so I expected that. I thought I would have to wait for over an hour (the dispatcher hung up when I asked for an ETA, by the way, again it's understandable on such a busy night, but please...) and I probably waited about 25 minutes. it was almost exactly $25 from Eureka to Arcata, but split between 3 drunk people, it was worth it. City Cab of Eureka has horrible service, rude dispatchers, filthy cars. The worst dispatcher is Holly that acts like she owns the company. The drivers complain about the working conditions and dispatchers every time I've used them. Never on time and often takes an hour or more to arrive. I was just going to the hospital. And after my test, going back again to my home in Eureka. No problem right? I left at 10:00 am with a nice cabbie, who had arrived on time. After the hospital, at 11:30 am the receptionist in the hospital lobby was nice enough to call City Cab for me (my cell phone had just broken the night before). They told her it would be a 45 minute and I was parked in a wheel chair by the doors there where I could watch for the cab for 1 hour and fifteen minutes before asking the lady to call again for me. They lied to the hospital receptionist telling her that the guy from City Cab had come to fetch me, had called my name and that I hadn't answered. She was angry (as was I) knowing that I was sitting there at the sliding door + hadn't moved. She told them I was handicapped and needed to get home. 2 more calls to City Cab followed, and finally one came at 3 25. He was new and didn't know to fib (I guess) and said that they sometimes, when they are very busy take the ones that will get them more $, over short distance fares. Dreadful experience. (:-(l) I think there is only City Cab now, so there's no competition. I'd rather call, perhaps Senior Center (?) for a referral and hire a driver for the day. If possible. I really wish I could give more than 1 star to City Cab because I've had pleasant conversations with many of the drivers, at times even offering me a personal business card so that I could call a driver directly. Now for the bad: This is the WORST cab company I have ever attempted to use, (and that includes living in San Francisco where cabbies ask you where you are headed before you get in the car and will drive off, leave you in a trail of dust if they don't feel the drive is worth it). The problem with City Cab is their penchant for either never showing up, or telling you that you'll need to wait an hour an a half. If I call City Cab, I'm usually told there will be an hour wait, so I've learned to try and call them with time to spare (don't ever have a car emergency because you'll never make any deadline). Usually, you have to call back after the hour is up to remind them that they are a cab company and are supposed to pick people up. Once I called them because I had a 7am flight the next day from Arcata/McK Airport, and could not make it to the airport by bus that early in the morning. I called City Can the night before, around 6pm, and asked for a pick up in the morning. Guess what? City Cab NEVER showed, despite calling them early in the morning to confirm the pick up. Thanks to City Can, I missed my flight and had to re-book it for an extreme fee. I called the dispatcher, trying to be civil because I've worked phones before and understand dealing with irate customers, but I was basically told that "s*** happens" and there was nothing he could do. I understand that NorHum is sparsely populated and CC can't afford a fleet a la Yellow Cab in SFCity, but I grew up in a taxi driver home and City Cab is the WORST run cab company I've ever dealt with. As I dump on the company, I feel that I should at least share one good story. Last December, a day or so before Christmas, I was going to get picked up by a friend an driven from Arcata to Garberville to stay with family, but the their car couldn't make the trip. I was told Garberville was impossible by the dispatcher, so I asked him to have someone drive me as close to Garberville as possible. At first the driver who picked me up said it was close to his shift ending and he could only take me to the cabbie's garage on 7th st, but he took pity on me and drove me from Arcata to Garberville so that I could see my family for Christmas. Ride and tip set me back almost $300, but he did go far out of his way to help me see my family. Mostly, my story explains my opinion of this company: The drivers are wholly good, kind people who dont try to scam you by taking detours, but unfortunately the company itself can not be relied upon to get you anywhere you need to go, and one of their dispatchers seems to have some kind of anger disorder. The Humboldt/Arcata area really needs reliable cab companies for those of us who need more than a drunken ride back from the bar. read more

We honestly need a more reliable transportation service in Eureka, you call an hour ahead they tell you 20 mins and then they don't show up for about and hour and half later, you call back and ask where is the cab. Yes they are nice but they always have an excuse to why the cab didnt show or is taking longer. We are not a big town but if you try to be a responsible person and not drink and drive and call a cab for your SAFE transportation its really hard to rely on this company. So sad! read more

While staying in Arcata, we called to get a taxi upon the advice of the front desk. We were quoted 30-40 minutes, which wasn't too bad considering it was a small down and a Friday night. After 50 minutes I called back, was told by dispatch they were sending someone 'right now'. After another 20 minutes I saw another cab company pull up outside while I was on hold with a new dispatcher trying to figure out what was going on. City Cab had actually called a different cab company (Plaza Cab) to come get us because they weren't able to get to us for more than an hour of promising us. Plaza cab was GREAT, I'll post a review for them. The only GOOD experience with City Cab was the fact that they saved me the trouble of having to call someone else by doing it for me. read more
