Terrible service. I have a credit card with Citi. Whenever there is a dispute, they take sides with the merchant.

The process of getting to the safety deposit box had changed again. Waited on line (15 minutes) to get the teller to go and open the safe deposit area...then told I had to look at contents in a separate room. I uploaded picture of first room; I had to use the 2nd room after closing the shades. I felt bad for the teller--they were short staffed as two of the "bankers" had called out sick. I wanted to leave my keys with the teller so I would not have to come back but was told I had to make an appointment with a banker and come back. I left the keys on the counter and told the teller that I did not need them anymore as I did not intend to come back. In the interim I also had to calm down an older gentleman who became very upset when he was told there was no one there to help him and he could get the services he needed at another nearby Wells Fargo...sort of defeats the purpose of banking locally.

Too much of my time has been wasted getting things corrected, then follow up and now going over every statement with a fine tooth comb. No thanks, who needs that headache. I was running errands in the neighborhood and thought to pop in here to see if I could open up an account but they had only one banker, and she had an imminent appointment. She was friendly and accommodating and offered to make an appointment, but I didn't plan on coming back to the area for a while so I declined. It would be great if they had more bankers available and capable of account opening and didn't require appointments for every transaction beyond depositing or withdrawing cash.

On more than one occasion I have entered the bank only to be told by the single teller that no bank officer is onsite who can help with my need. Sometimes they lock the doors during scheduled open hours and then the employee or two pretend they are not there (very common on Friday afternoons). One time I was able to schedule an appointment with a bank officer only to have her call me about 30 minutes beforehand and tell me she was working from home so she would not make the appointment. The space is dismal, depressing, and icky. It feels like a dank fluorescent-lit cave. And Wells Fargo is always the bank in the news being forced to pay fines for misconduct and for abusing their customers. I only use this bank to get free money with new account opening bonuses and then as soon as I qualify for the bonuses, I close my accounts.

Last year, I noticed an unidentified $25 fee had been deducted from my account. Bewildered, I discovered that this fee had been deducted during each of the previous six months. When challenged to identify the fee, Chase acknowledged that, without my knowledge or consent, it had converted my checking account into a type that carries a $25 monthly fee. When I complained that this action was taken surreptitiously and utterly without notifying me or seeking my consent, Chase sheepishly converted the account back into its original type. Yet the bank would only refund $25 rather than the full $150 it owed me! Infuriated, I brought the matter to the attention of the District of Columbia's Attorney General (AG). The AG agreed that Chase's conduct was untenable and wrote to the bank, calling for it to refund my money in full. Chase has refused to do so. Indeed, it has defied the AG's request and done nothing to remedy what is essentially an illegal seizure of funds from my account. This situation parallels a case in which the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) fined Wells Fargo $100 million for the widespread illegal practice of secretly opening unauthorized deposit and credit card accounts. Yet when I brought my case to the CFPB, it said it could do nothing because not enough other people had complained about the same practice. Will Chase be allowed to help itself to others' checking accounts with impunity? Apparently so, as the CFPB is being blocked by the Trump Administration. Thus, even if hundreds or thousands of people report the same thing I did, Chase will be allowed to keep its ill-gotten gains without any challenge.
