I own a small tabletop gaming company and have been to gaming stores all over the country. The Citadel Game Cellar is one of the best gaming stores I've ever been to. It has an enormous collection of games, books, and paints, great prices, and a super cool group of staff as well. I only wish I lived closer!

I love this place! It was my first introduction in the early 2000's to Euro/German-style/Designer board games. The original location had tons of these games while it also managed to include other (hobby) board games & card games, RPGs, CCGs, gaming magazines, minis, and even an entire aisle of true wargames. A few years ago, I made my usual vacation detour and found the storefront vacant. I was crushed, assuming for these last couple of years that it had gone out of business, but I am excited to say not only is the store still in business (it's about three lots down the street from the old location, but hard to see from the road), but it's even bigger than before! This is a great place to find not only new games, but a ton of out-of-print items as well. The only negative I can think of is that the prices tend to be retail, which is often the case in this industry, but it'd be nice to see discounts on the really old CCGs and small-print RPGs that may not really be able to demand full price anymore. Overall, I am very happy to say I can resume my yearly pilgrimage to what seems to be the biggest collection of games in New England!

Bought Root and Terra Mystica at Citadel, highly recommend both!

The best private selection of board games in Connecticut by a long shot in my opinion.

My friends and I go 2-4 times a month to play commander. There's a table pass system in which you spend $10 and get a voucher that lets you stay and play and can be exchanged for $10 off of a purchase. This is fair and we've never had a problem with this. We typically end up spending ~$20-$30 each when we come and play anyway (more when we buy sets). The problem is how this voucher is limited in its use. My friend and I wanted to split a pizza, but were told we couldn't use our vouchers together in one order. A whole pizza here is $24, which is already fairly high priced; but because we had to do separate orders for a half pizza each we ended up spending $32 total for a whole pizza. Quite frankly, it's exploitative and greedy. Until this policy changes, our group will be playing elsewhere for our weekly magic. UPDATE: The owner's response to this was to explain the entire business model and how if he let customers spend their $10 voucher however they wanted, he would have to charge double that for people to play there, and then force people to get a $20 voucher on top of that. Well Jared, I may not be able to understand the mental gymnastics it takes to justify extortion of your customers, but I can see greed when it appears. I will not be feeding this greedy toad and would not recommend anyone else does. (:

Reality A Games is the best retro game & card store in Rhode Island…read more The staff here are very friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely happy to help assist you in finding anything you are looking for. Every time I walk into the store, I am greeting by an associate and asked how I am doing and if I can be assisted at all (even at peak times where customers are almost shoulder to shoulder). For a 'smaller' location, Reality A Games has a strong variety and selection of cards, games, collectibles, video game systems, and they even host tournaments. Reality A Games has something for every one of all ages and interests. Currently, I am primarily into retro games only, and I do not have much experience with cards, but from my experience I have noticed there are always customers inside the shop playing Magic the Gathering, and they seem to really enjoy the atmosphere that Reality A Games has created. For years, I have been hunting down big name titles, and smaller name titles across many different generations of systems at Reality A Games. Every time I visit, there is always new games and/or systems that I did not see on my previous visit. The staff here are always happy to help me find what I am looking for, and if they do not have it in stock, they give me great tips on where I can find certain titles and if they may expect it in store soon. From customers coming in to part with their collections, to customers chasing that nostalgia of games they played growing up, Reality A Games and the devoted staff approach you with nothing but the best customer service you have ever experienced in these past few years of retail business. Every video game I have purchased here has been flawless, I've been able to build up my collection through Reality A Games selection of many titles, the price point and value in quality has been incredible, and I am happy to support this local shop for years to come!
