My sister and I were in the area and happened to park right out front. Coincidentally I had just sent her a post about this spot. I thought maybe it was one of those antique video game stores with exclusive toys, to our surprise it's not that type of game store, but we were still excited to look around. There were so many modern unique items around. You can pay $10 for an all day admission to play games, if you're 21+ you can even byob. Pretty cool. They been open for about 8yrs, I'm surprised we didn't bump into them sooner. My sister end up purchasing some magnets. They have some pretty cool stuff here.

This is a cool shop! I never noticed this place before. I asked the owner(forgot his name) how long they've been there. He said about 9 years. I said wow! I thought it was a video game store but it's mostly board/card games. Owner said you can play games all day for a small fee. I thought that was cool! They also had cool ol' school magnets. I love magnets! lol, I collect them!

I was excited to stop by and just browse, but ended up discovering games that I want to add to my list! The employee who greeted us was friendly and answered any questions we had. They have a great selection of games that are well organized and suitable for many different audiences.

Best tabletop game store in the state, hands down. Owners aren't afraid to take a stand for what's right.

I just left this store, and I was honestly floored by the experience. I have been reading and…read morecollecting comics and visiting local comic shops for more than 35 years, and I have never been made to feel so uncomfortable or unwelcome in one. I stopped in around 5:00 on a Monday afternoon and was the only customer in the store. The man behind the counter did not greet me or offer any assistance. That wouldn't have bothered me much on its own, but things got considerably worse when I started looking through the back issues. As I was browsing, he sharply told me to be careful not to bend the comics. I understood his concern--the bins were extremely overpacked--and I politely told him that I would be careful, even though I already was being careful. But he wouldn't let it go. He continued telling me how I should be looking through the comics and repeatedly insisted that I was doing it incorrectly. After more than 35 years of buying and collecting comics, I know how to handle a back issue. I certainly don't need to be repeatedly lectured on how to flip through a comic bin. The entire interaction felt condescending and unnecessarily hostile, and I was made to feel as though I was doing something wrong simply by browsing the merchandise. Needless to say, I will never go back to Alternative Universe. There are too many comic shops where customers are actually made to feel welcome for me to spend my money somewhere that treats a customer this way. A truly disappointing experience.

Very rude and strict service, as well as attitude from the man working there. Wanted to buy a comic…read morebut because of the way he was acting , was not interested at all

A 5-star private social club in the Platinum Clubs of America, it is situated on Whitney Avenue near the Yale University campus, and two blocks from Ingalls Rink and State Street (home to Modern Apizza, our favorite in the Pizza Capital of the World). The New Haven Lawn Club offers five comfortable, spacious overnight guest rooms and one suite, a main dining room seating 200, and a grand ballroom seating 300 that was being used for a wedding reception the night we stayed there. The fitness center and four squash courts are open 24x7. Outdoors, there is a pool, toddler pool, eight Hart-tru tennis courts, two paddle courts and a playground. Guests enjoy free parking and wifi. We enjoyed pre-game cocktails in the bar off the Grill Room, accommodating 100, where lunch and dinner are served Wednesday-Saturday, and where seasonal Sunday brunch and supper are available. A unique feature of the club is art exhibits hung in the rotunda outside the Grill Room. Rebuilt in 1931 after a fire destroyed the original two years earlier, the clubhouse was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 2003. It also is designated A New Haven Landmark by the New Haven Preservation Trust.
