A 5-star private social club in the Platinum Clubs of America, it is situated on Whitney Avenue near the Yale University campus, and two blocks from Ingalls Rink and State Street (home to Modern Apizza, our favorite in the Pizza Capital of the World). The New Haven Lawn Club offers five comfortable, spacious overnight guest rooms and one suite, a main dining room seating 200, and a grand ballroom seating 300 that was being used for a wedding reception the night we stayed there. The fitness center and four squash courts are open 24x7. Outdoors, there is a pool, toddler pool, eight Hart-tru tennis courts, two paddle courts and a playground. Guests enjoy free parking and wifi. We enjoyed pre-game cocktails in the bar off the Grill Room, accommodating 100, where lunch and dinner are served Wednesday-Saturday, and where seasonal Sunday brunch and supper are available. A unique feature of the club is art exhibits hung in the rotunda outside the Grill Room. Rebuilt in 1931 after a fire destroyed the original two years earlier, the clubhouse was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 2003. It also is designated A New Haven Landmark by the New Haven Preservation Trust.

We ate and drank well, met and spoke with many people, and just loved the experience. They have many events throughout the year so be sure to check them out.

The tight, cluttered,dirty area in the middle for textiles,sewing etc is cluttered,hazardous,incredibly dirty and even a fire hazard. There is stuff everywhere. 2 knitting machines that are used infrequently. Textiles and fabrics getting dusty and dirty from dust and dirt. The place is for machines. Really sewing and textiles should have their own space. There must be a room available. I love to cook but would nvr use their kitchen, it is filthy! Everything should be covered in plastic and regularly cleaned. 2 entrances which is very dirty,not food safe!

I have been going to this place off and on for over 15 years. It is nestled in a parking lot just…read moreacross the street from the West haven VA hospital and from the outside it might look like a hole in the wall, but on the inside it is as warm and inviting as a family abode on the holidays. The drink prices are more than reasonable averaging $2.50 -$4.00 for domestic drafts and the range for hard alcohol is not that extensive, but it fits the bill for what the place is -- A beer and shot place. It is a place where men go to watch the games, or gripe about work, or talk about the news of the day. It is as close to a brotherhood that any one can get and I have made many friends there. Note: This is a private men's club and entry is subject to voting in by the current members. Non-members have to sign if for the first two visits at which point they have to decide if they want to join or give up entry.

They put me in touch with someone who was donating and we picked it up within a week of asking. They also sent me home with a commode and chucks for the hospital bed. I was relieved and prepared for his recovery at home. Wonderful people providing a wonderful service to our community. Thank you, Charlie's Closet organizers and volunteers.
