Vegetarian Frittata, eggs benedict and gluten free almond biscuits, washed down with coffee, nom nom nom...

Circus Circus you did a great job today! This was the second or third time I have been here in the last 4 years living in Auckland. At first the place didn't impress too much, except for the quirky, themed atmosphere, loved that quality straight away. But today, settling down for some brunch proved they have lifted my first impression. The staff were all very, very good at their job. Towards us and towards each other from what I observed. There is a wide range of options in seating; if you want something solo, in a group, private, nestled away, alfresco, loads of options, big tick. The food was well presented and tasted fresh and delicious - we had the vegetarian frittata and eggs benedict, plus 2 gluten free almond biscuits. The coffee, to be honest, was more close to four stars, but because everything else was exceptional, they win top score from me today.

Very Interesting from the outside and very surprising from the inside. We sat near the kitchen and could see everything that went out and I quickly changed my order from the chicken to the prawn and coconut curry after seeing it pass by. It did not disappoint and frankly everything looked amazing, especially the desserts. Very friendly staff as well, was an amazing cap to our perfect vacation in New Zealand, one of my favorite meals!

Circus Circus is a cafe that has become synonymous with Mt Eden. With its bright red exterior, saxophone playing clown and gold lions at the entrance, Circus Circus is hard to miss when in Mt Eden Village. Though the cafe may look small from the entrance, it's quite deceiving as it includes the building behind, has a courtyard area and even a second counter. The decor is fantastic, and is what makes me love Circus Circus so much. The cafe completely encompasses the circus theme, and has clowns dangling precariously from the ceiling, fairy lights running the length of the sheltered deck, old school chandelier style lights and posters, posters, posters! Though it is one of my favourite cafes in Auckland due to the theme, Circus Circus also serves brilliant food. Everything in the cabinet always looks fresh and appetizing and a full menu, including tapas and their mouth-watering crème brulee, is always available. Tip: Circus Circus is open late so is a great place to go for after dinner coffees and desserts!

I just love Circus Circus. It feels like there's not enough places like this doing café food at dinner time. It's kid-friendly and you can come here any time of the day into the night to do breakfast, brunch, coffee and cake - I've even been here late at night and had a glass of wine with friends as an alternative to the bar crowds. In winter I might have soup which is a big hearty meal with bread, but usually I get the Spinach and Ricotta Crepes. They are so good I would need to grieve if they were ever taken off the menu. There's always sweet deliciousness in the front cabinet, although the cakes can be a bit hit and miss. You get a choice of cream or yoghurt with your cake which I really like as I'm not a cream kind of girl. My children love the fun aspect of this place and the sprawling series of dining spaces somehow just really works. You find your spot and it's different each time. I only wish others would take note of what Circus Circus is doing and at least attempt to replicate it - especially at dinnertime.

Piri Piri chicken salad and Bruchetta topped with bocconcini

This time we stopped in for lunch, but Circus Circus in its vibrant red corner location in the heart of Mt Eden village is the best meeting place anytime, morning, noon or night including the wee hours for small special occasion parties like 21sts. I ordered the Piri Piri chicken salad which was acceptable but not a stand out on the day. My friend's Bruchetta topped with bocconcini and fresh tomato looked much more appealing. As always this place was bustling with activity and the waiter staff were super friendly. Topped the meal off with a flat white and we came away happy.

I used to stop by Circus Circus all the time. I even worked there for a month in my youth. Now, I hardly ever choose it as an eating destination. I'm not sure why. The food is a 7 out of 10. The coffee is the same. The sweets - you can do better. The place is very child friendly. My favourite breakfast thing on the menu is the bagel tower with bacon avocado and brie. The seating is good - there are lots of options and you can sit and feel like you're relatively private. It's open all day and at night so if you're into café fare at night, this is a good option.

I love this....my "physique", not so much ;) Entering here is basically like entering Whoopie Pie Heaven. They've taken an American classic and added a kiwi twist with flavours such as Hokey Pokey Chocolate, Anzac Cookie, Tangelo and Mixed Berry, Lamington...and the list goes on. They have two pie sizes, too, depending on your hunger/sweet tooth levels. "Whoopie Pops" are also on offer- a mixture of the pie and filling dipped in white chocolate. Can't reallllly go wrong there. Also awesome: dairy free, egg free and gluten free options available #winning.

I had actually never even seen a whoopie pie either, so I was quite excited about this new Kiwi take on a classic American treat! Once I heard it was two cakes sandwiched together with a creamy filling, I was absolutely hooked! My sister and I decided that we would try this place out and we are very glad we did. [Side note: make sure you go on an empty stomach because one Whoopie pie is filling!] We tried the 'Heroic' whoopie pie which is hazelnut and chocolate flavoured and the 'Playful' whoopie pie which consists of peanut butter and chocolate chunks. I was somewhat expecting a dry cake, but in fact it was incredibly moist! The filling just makes it a whole lot better! As well as selling whoopie pies, they also sell 'Whoopie Pops' (which look so nice in-store), hot drinks, milkshakes and ice cream sundaes - would could be more perfect?

A raspberry chocolate croissant, a chocolate brioche, and a canele topped my plate. The canele was my highlight, crispy and sweet on the outside and gooey on the inside. The brioche was freshly warm and soft but not too rich. The croissant was on the verge, somewhat stale around the edges but still enjoyable. The ups: these pastries and the olive bread were delicious. Prices are very reasonable too, only $10 all up for the three sweets. La Voie Francaise also boasts an inviting atmosphere that's relaxing but well kempt. The downs: I'm not convinced by these tastings that La Voie is all the rage, but that's probably just because I've been spoiled by the French market in Parnell. I'll be back for a croque monsieur at some stage, maybe my mind will change.

We were scouring the area specifically for pavlova as it's one of my faves and the adorable vibes drew us in. The dessert was lovely and so were the staff. Prices were good and their menu was massive with so many intriguing dessert options. You don't often see pavlova in the US so when I read that it's a popular dessert in New Zealand, I had it on my radar lol. They offer theirs with either passionfruit sauce or "berry" sauce. We went with the passionfruit which is quite unique for pavlova and it was a fantastic combination! The tart passionfruit sauce was a lovely compliment to the soft, sweet merengue. Chocolate Boutique is packed full of handmade chocolate bonbons, cakes, and all sorts of unique dessert gifts and options. They have hot or cold desserts and drinks and much more than just chocolate - like lemon tarts, apple crumble, carrot cake; and all sorts of other things like numerous hot chocolate drink flavors, teas and coffees too. If we weren't so stuffed from lunch I'm sure we would've tried more lol! They have options to order their chocolates online but you can also order desserts at the counter if you're dining in and they'll bring it out to your table. This shop sells what I consider the best hot chocolate you'll ever taste called the Italian Denso. It is thick, rich and decadent hot chocolate with whipped cream on top and chocolate flakes. Think of it as a cup of a molten lava cake. And the best part, nobody will judge you for drinking your dessert. Okay, maybe SOME skinny model from LA? But she isn't here!
