Big red barn! This is a wild lookin' HEB- I've never seen…read moreone in a barn before! They've got all the best foods at the best prices around here. I came in here to get stocked up for a camping trip, and found all the goods I needed! I was surprised to see the size of their beer selection here. There wasn't much to it. They had the national brands and a very small selection of local beers. Shiner is a local beer here! The clerk seemed befuddled by the bar codes and it took an incredibly long time to get checked out. A manager was called over to help press the buttons repeatedly to get an item to ring up. It made me regret getting the meat from the butcher if it was going to take so long to get properly rang up. I did manage to get everything that I needed. They even have a small clearance section in the rear corner of the store. I found some pretty great stuff in there. Parking was easy.

I am disappointed to say H-E-B has almost become a Walmart, there are plenty of people wandering around the store doing shopping orders for online and pick up plenty of people stocking the shelves but nobody looking you in the eye no one taking the time to ask if you need help.. I come all the way to Gonzales to shop because Lockhart H-E-B is way too crowded, And I have to say that the only person who was friendly today was the lady in the floral department who always , always offers to say hi even if I'm not buying flowers!! What happens to customer service if I want to shop for myself by myself and find things for myself I can go to Walmart and even check myself out!!! Disappointed texas shopper!!!

Good solid bone-in fried chicken at this local joint…read more As of March 2021, they've closed the dining room so I drove through. The menu had a good range of choices and combos. I ordered my standard order at a new place: chicken breast, fries, and a roll with a drink for $4.99. The chicken was quite good--hot and crispy with just the right amount of crust for my taste, and just the right level of seasoning. Not bland, but not over salted or complicated. The meat was a touch dry, but I was there midafternoon when chicken wasn't moving fast. I still found it very tasty. The fries were quite fresh, hot, and delicious. I'm a little suspicious of the seasoned salt they used, since MSG gives me a headache, but no headache so far and they tasted great. The roll was the standard boring white bread throwaway. I wish more places had biscuits! But all in all, a solid choice. I'd go back if I'm in the area.

The food tastes like it came straight out of a family kitchen--fresh, hearty, and downright delicious. The atmosphere is exactly what you hope for in a hometown diner: locals chatting over coffee, a welcoming vibe the moment you walk in, and a staff that treats you like you've been coming there for years. Everyone is genuinely friendly, and it's clear this spot is a community favorite. One of the small town touches the place boasts is that it's connected to a boutique, so you can enjoy a great meal and then browse around a bit. I highly recommend their grilled vegetables side. They also offer breakfast all day. Service is usually very good with waitstaff checking so often that I usually just have to tell them to check back in 5 minutes or so. The TVs are so low that you never hear them to interrupt table conversation. When it's really busy, it can get loud, especially in the very front room due to all the hard surfaces. There's no mistaking that this is a Mexican restaurant. They do have a drive-thru window which is great to pick up to take home or get a breakfast burrito in the morning. They have also restarted their Sunday lunch buffet which includes both light & dark turkey, dressing, gravy, and cranberry sauce every week.
