I ordered some food to-go tonight and asked for extra chips and salsa. When I went to look in my bag, I only received SEVEN CHIPS. I wish I was joking!! Then I went back and asked for more and they gave me a small bag of SEVEN more. I'm not sure if this is a California thing, but I am from Texas, and we believe in larger quantities. The food here is terrible, I ordered three tacos, a beef and two chicken hard tacos. Their number #10. The Chicken inside the super hard fried shell was bland and flavorless. The beef was also in this super hard fried shell, it was dry and tasteless. I don't understand how in California there can be bad Mexican food. But this place seems to have bad managed that skill. The rice tasted old and dry and the beans are the only reason I gave 1 star. There were just traditional Mexican beans. I'm not sure if they fry the taco after they stuff it but the meat ends up being super dry. A waste of $9, I am from New York and heard great things about Mexican food this isn't the place. When I lived in Martinez I frequented the Pacheco Cinco and thought it was good, but after living in a tourist town for four years, I think it's DELICIOUS. Been awhile since my last visit here due to covid. Used to visit this location in the past, and the staff are/were always great with great affordable food. I used to speak with one woman in particular and always have/had pleasant conversations. Just found out today she is part owner with her family. Cinco de Mayo on Pacheco is a staple of Martinez Mexican food. So it is fitting that they have taken over Chavinda and put in a second location. The problem that has plagued the original location is consistency. Not just with the food but also the service. Having visited in the first week of service, they were great. Super friendly and make a wicked good nachos al pastor. Coming in another time, the girls behind the counter had no idea what they were doing. The food order was wrong as a result. My favorite Mexican spot in Martinez. Friendly staff and convenient location. I always call in my orders to go and they ready on time and always correctly prepared. It is small with limited seating, but the food is good and the spicy hot salsa is to die for. The salsa packed a heat that my mouth was burning and the chips were fresh and nice. I ordered a fish soft shell taco and it was nice and the avocado was fresh looking. I had previously ordered a burrito (healthy size) and a pork taco. The service is a little slow so if you are in a hurry, do not go there to get. Good: A great place to enjoy that Mexican food you're craving. My family & I usually order chicken or shrimp burritos, enchiladas, tacos, and tostadas. Good: You'll appreciate, like we do, the fresh salsa bar where they serve 3 types of salsa along with other condiments you might need for an enjoyable meal. Bad: I noticed that the burrito sizes have shrunk though. It's almost two-thirds of what it used to be, yet at the same price like before. I guess they have to cut back somewhere to make a profit. Bad: They charge 10¢ for a bag for my to-go meals. I ordered 3 meals last week (3/2014). This is the only restaurant we go to that charge for a bag - and we visit around 10 different food establishments every week. And I refuse to pay for one when I already paid for the food! Today I ordered a grilled chicken superburrito.The burrito meat was dry, unflavored, and overcooked. Tons of rice as filler, a few black beans, no lettuce or veggies, and (yet again) they forgot to put on sour-cream. Dry, unflavorful and tossed it in the garbage after a few bites! Although chipotle has had some bad rap this last year, at least they're burritos have flavor and taste.
