They should have said it was an appetizer or snack literally the portion for a $12. Plate was sad. Now let's talk about quality... The chicken looked as if it was boiled in water with spice. They had more onions and peppers then rice and beans and I even had onion peel (the thin paper one that covers the onion) in my plate. I had more onion peel than rice. Me and my gf got food delivered for the first time from Cinco de Mayo. We loved the food! I got fish tacos with black beans and rice. The fish tacos were awesome! The fish was fried perfectly and the pineapple and cheese complimented it so well. The black beans were seasoned to perfection and the rice was very good. She had the chimichangas with pinto beans and rice. The chimichangas were cooked perfectly and were very hearty. The beans and rice were very good. The food was a very good price, too. The only reason it's not 5 stars is because the delivery took a very long time. I do still highly recommend this restaurant. I'm from San Antonio, TX and felt this food was very authentic. read more

This place is a hole in the wall at the edge of englewood cliffs and fort lee. This place has genuine Tex-mex food that is delicious. Their L.A. Burrito is oven baked and the cheese on top is melted perfectly. Their drink was a combo of banana, blueberry, mango, and pina colada. They use 100% fruit juice as well! Tried Cinco De Mayo for the first time and it was great! The service was amazing, staff was really friendly, quick, and had the quality to back them. I ordered a chicken quesadilla and it came with all the fixings (guac, sour cream, salsa, hot sauce, chips, etc.) which many places don't offer at a good price. Best of all of it was a great size, and I was able to split it for two. Definitely will be coming back and try more off of the menu! read more

Shrimp fajita was chock full of medium sized shrimp. That's the best thing I can say about my meal. The tortillas were warm and some nice guac came with the fajita. Ordered Take Out during a visit up here with some friends. The food has pretty good flavor, our order taker was very nice. He grabbed us another seat as we waited for our food. Very attentive when taking our order and gave us chips and salsa. I ordered the special that day, the Chicken Diablo and it was delicious. I just wish it were as spicy as I expected it to be when he asked me "you want it spicy" it was just a regular tomato sauce. My friends really liked their food, one got fish tacos and my other friend ordered a Steak Burrito, all good. I plan on dining in the next time, and what it looks like it could BYOB, so that's a great time. read more

Let me start by saying I don't particularly enjoy Mexican food. I've never been to Mexico, not even for the college spring break in Cancun experience. What probably turned me off from Mexican cuisine were the culinary abominations disguised as tacos served at lunch time during elementary school. That, and I grew up near the infamous (and now defunct) Fiesta Sunrise of Kitchen Nightmares with Gordon Ramsay notoriety. I had just finished reading a food blog about tacos, so I decided to try expanding my horizons and took a stroll to the the Mexican restaurant around the corner, Cinco de Mayo. The restaurant was practically empty the Sunday afternoon that I went, but there was constant activity at the counter with orders being sent out for delivery. You get a bowl of tortilla chips and pico de gallo to whet your appetite while browsing your menu. I already knew I wanted tacos, so I ordered tacos al carbon with carne asada. The food was OK. Maybe it's a combination of my lukewarm taste for Mexican food and perhaps having high expectations for an "authentic" Mexican restaurant (at least, more authentic than Chipotle I suppose), but I was sort of.... disappointed? No, that's not quite the word. The food was by no means bad, in fact, I gobbled down the entire plate rather quickly, but I was genuinely hoping that Cinco de Mayo would reverse my attitude towards Mexican cuisine. Unfortunately, it hadn't done so. On the plus side? Service was excellent. Maybe it was because it was a particularly slow day, but I felt well attended to and my server was very friendly and responsive. Would I come back? Yes, if I had company that particularly enjoyed Mexican food. On my own? We immediately called to tell them what they missed, and then kept telling us that the delivery person would be back in 5 minutes with the rest of it. 1 hour and 20 minutes later they finally showed up with the other items. We had to call 10 times to sort things out, and now the food was awful since everything was ice cold at that point. I waited 1 week to post this revue because I expected their manager to call us, and offer something.. ( a discount on a future order, an apology, something...) but we did not hear from them. This was more than a $350 order, and we deserved better treatment. It's been 3 years since I've wrote my last review. Loads has changed, one of them is us moving away from Fort Lee to Brooklyn. Still, with at least one hour drive each way, and us having about 5-8 Mexican restaurants around us in Brooklyn, CDM still beats the stuffings out of the taste of every dish on the menu. I can't describe what it is about this place, it's taste is unrivaled but the atmosphere, the ambiance, the location. It's homey, I feel part of the family without knowing too many people who work there. And yet, we still drive out there and will try to come even more so. I honestly thought that the places around very competitive Brooklyn would make me realize that CDM is above average, but coming back to the old friend made me realize how much Brooklyn scene is not all that. Hate to write this review for a small business but i had a terrible experience. There was an unclean smell walking in. Ordered 3 crispy tacos (Tacos Doridos) and they were definitely the worst beef taco I ever had. The beef was oily and dripping orange-ish grease, making the stale taco shells soggy. Lettuce was cut salad size so it wouldn't fit in the taco. Service was slow, we had to ask for the chips and salsa and water. There was only 3 tables including us so they weren't too busy. The salsa was also pretty bad. Bland, liquidy and large chunks of partially cut vegetables. read more

Prices were good, portions were good. I'm a very happy camper. I ordered from here about 2 weeks ago. I was craving Mexican, but didn't feel like driving out. I had to get two dishes since minimum for delivery is $15. I got myself a steak quesadilla and empanadas for my coworkers. I didn't get to try the empanadas but they told me it was really really great. I can't wait to order from here again. This place had left a menu at the b/f's place stating they delivered...we decided to hit them up instead (my way of checking out the joint to see with what I was working with....real Mexicans or not) & order to go. Place is definitely run by Mexicans, HOWEVER me thinks they've gotten too comfy bamboozling the 'gringos' with the flavors. Ordered: -queso fundido con chorizo (baked cheese w/chorizo & corn tortillas) -enchiladas verdes de camaron (shrimp enchiladas in tomatillo sauce) -carnitas adobadas (pulled pork) -an horchata As stated in Richard U's review, I'm in agreement that the salsa is too watery as was the green salsa my enchiladas were baked in. The yellow (yes, yellow! not even authentic red rice) rice & black beans (yes, black beans...not even pinto style!) had no flavor whatsoever. The horchata was made with concentrated syrup, the taste wasn't that bad, but the fact that it was from concentrate bummed me out. The queso fundido was pretty much a sad amount of cheese melted over 2 sausages split in half. I kid you not, when I saw that, I yelled out loud: "WTF is *that*?". I was so disappointed at the poor & lame attempt at the queso fundido (by my brethren, nonetheless!) that one bite for me was enough to leave it alone. The shrimp enchiladas verdes was something my little cousin could probably cook better & the shrimp stuffing was tasteless as well. I pretty much left a good 2/3's of it alone. The b/f's pork was not done 'adobada' style as the menu had indicated. It was chunks of pulled pork in green sauce with grilled onions, etc. It did look good, however the b/f stated that if he had known from the get-go that this particular dish is supposed to be eaten with tortillas (no forks or knives), he wouldn't have wanted to, too much fat on the meat. Overall, I was deeply disappointed. Moreso, 'cause they were such nice people...and the maduros that came with the carnitas dish were on point. But in what world do Mexicans serve maduros with any of their dishes? Oh, that's right, *only* in the east coast. I doubt I'll be going back. read more

Should have known this would end poorly after they were rude to my wife when she placed the order. Avoid at all costs - simply horrible human beings. EDIT: Food was not only cold, but tasteless, and they forgot half my order (but charged for all of it, naturally). I am completely baffled by the amount of negative reviews for this Mexican/Tex-Mex style eatery. What My wife and I placed an order for delivery last night. Food arrived very quickly (around 35 minutes) considering we live about 20 minutes away from the establishment. We didn't order anything too crazy, just tacos with chicken, beef empanadas and an order of guacamole with chips. They also gave us free chips with a bunch of salsa which was very nice. Everything was very good with generous portion of all items ordered. Excerpt for the empanadas...I should have ordered 2 portions. This is not by any means the fault of the restaurant, my wife just ate them all! She is a big fan of empanadas. But, I forgave her and all is well again. Plus she gave me most of the churros. I absolutely loved the Churros con Helado (a sweet Mexican pastry with ice cream, cinnamon and vanilla ice cream)! P.S. Being the only Tex/Mex restaurant in the area allows this place a little leeway. I mean maybe if your $20 meal from a storefront restaurant/delivery place isn't the best "Mexican Food" you've ever had, you should probably step back and re-examine the situation before leaving a one star review and scaring the white people. : ) read more

Never again though!! I must admit that they are very nice when you place your order but the typical delivery time is over 1 hour. I have tried many things: fajitas, burritos, enchiladas and a couple of appetizers. My all-time worst memory is the shrimp dish, Camarones al Diablo. This was the only meal in my entire life that I took one bite of and proceeded to throw the entire dish in the trash!!! I am not super-picky so this was unbelievable! Ordered online the steak fajitas, they said the food would take 35 minutes, took them an hour to deliver, then half the food was missing, called them to tell them that I didn't get half of our food and they said OH MY GOD, will send over right now, that right now took them another 40 minutes.. I will never go back to place again, figured Id give it a shot since they sent us there menu. We placed an order for delivery and was told it was be about 35 mins. In 45 mins I called and asked where the food was and they said it was out for delivery, and then in an hour I called again and the guy said he would call the driver for me and call me right back. He never called me back in about 20 mins the driver called me and said he couldnt find the entrance to my building. Obviously when we finally ate the food it wasn't hot, so utterly unenjoyable. Rather than ccalling back and complaining to in the end just receive a discount for my next order, which I would never use because I would never go back. I just let it be. Now today I see on my credit card account they charged me 6 times. Now I have to deal with the nuisance of calling them and asking them to revert the charges. Worst $50 I have ever spent in my life. I think they need more staff! I ate in only once and years ago and the service was slow and the food took a long time to come out. I ordered delivery from here several times and all tools over an hour to almost 2 hours to get to me. Once the guy was lost and he didn't speak english and it was extremely irritating.
