Robert did a great job filling cracks and building the parge (protective layer inside the fireplace) while both Russ and Robert completed outside work, replacing the crown, improving the flues and flue caps. Our main issue was a chimney that was leaking into our third floor bedroom. In asking around, the only company that we were told to call was AMERICAN CHIMNEY. I will say at first that I was a little put off because their assistant/receptionist does not answer the phone much, and they appear to prefer communicating with customers via email; however, now I am a believer. They are simply very busy, and email is the best way to properly respond to everyone. And these guys know their stuff. They do beautiful work. We had American Chimney come out to initially give us a quote on rebuilding our chimneys (we have four of them). They are not cheap, but you get what you pay for. This may sound dumb, but I keep going outside to stare at how great our chimney looks now. Because we live in a historic district, American Chimney mixes a special mortar that was used at the time that these house were built so that the new chimney matches the house. They took off every brick from our old chimney and relayed those same bricks with the new mortar, adding new chimney caps. Gorgeous, gorgeous work, and very pleasant folks who showed up to do the job (I think we had the owners son do our job...very sweet). If you need masonry work done, it's very important to have it done right. This is your home! Send these guys out to do the work...no job is too small. You will not regret it!

I specifically asked the receptionist whether they used contractors or another company to perform the work. She told me, "No, they are all our employees." When the appointment day arrived, however, a company I had never heard of--ChimCREW--showed up. I checked their reviews before allowing them to proceed, and to be fair, ChimCREW did a good job cleaning the chimney. My concern is with how American Chimney represented the appointment. I specifically asked whether another company would be involved and was told no. I believe customers should know who will actually be coming to their home before agreeing to service. I was also quoted $1,335 for a chimney crown repair, which seemed quite high, so I declined the repair and am getting another estimate. Based on my experience, I recommend asking exactly who will perform the work and getting a second estimate before approving significant repairs.

I then reached out again and was told everything looked fine and there were no issues. I asked if there were any pictures of the chimney they could share. I was told no they didn't take any. I then went back and looked on my outdoor camera and noticed that the truck arrived at my house at the day in question but no one ever left the truck. No drone ever exited the truck. Nothing was actually done and 5 mins after the truck arrived, the truck left. I then pointed this out to the owner/operator and all communication stopped. I would stay away from this company before investing thousands of dollars with them as you obviously cannot trust what they say. Beware.

I found this company after consulting Home Advisor and I could not be happier. Tom and CJ were due…read moreat 9:30 and they pulled in my driveway at 9:29. They cleaned my chimney, repaired a crack on the fireplace insert, vacuumed the inside of the fireplace and even wiped the glass clean. Tom put down a throw so that nothing got on my carpet and the throw was carefully folded up so not one speck of soot was in my house. They also repaired a plumbing boot on the roof and repaired some trim. This was also done carefully and quickly. I will definitely use them again because they did a great job but they also did a few extra things that I appreciated. I was bringing in the garbage can and CJ grabbed the other one and brought it in. They saw where I found the extra paint and put it away when they finished. Finally, one of dogs had taken some of the stuffing out of a toy and they picked it up as they were cleaning up from the fireplace work. I will definitely use them again!
