I recently ordered a to-go of the coctel de camaron (shrimp cocktail) I was craving it so badly! I was working so a buddy of mine picked it up for me. The shrimp was RAW. The consistency of the cocktail was that of thick thick ketchup. I called back and they replaced it, had to have my buddy drive all the way back. It still ended up in the garbage and $20 was wasted. Not one person at my job would eat it. It was so thick and it just tasted like ketchup. I love shrimp cocktail, but this one wasn't done right! It was very disappointing because I have had this dish from this establishment before and it was great. It was coke,diet coke, rasberry tea, sprite, pink lemonade, fruit punch, root beer, 7-up. I chose diet coke. From the Appetizers section, we got Chi Chi Shrimp for 18.95. It stated Shrimp served in our house made spices garlic sauce topped with cilantro & honey drizzle and your choice of tortilla. The server gave me options and I chose corn. The Burritos stated wrapped inside with rice, beans, lettuce, tomato & cheese. I chose Steak for 15.95. The Cilantro Favorites stated served with rice & beans, Add Suizo for $1.50 Add .95¢ for steak per item. In that section, we ordered Rocio's Taco Dinner for 19.95. It was 2 steak tacos w/ beans, pico de gallo & avocados. Add melted cheese $1.25. Of course, I almost had to check out the drink menu. From the classic cocktails section, I ordered a Cantina Margarita. It stated this south of the border favorite is made with our best margarita recipe ever. served frozen or on the rocks. choose from: original (lime), strawberry, banana, mango, raspberry, peach, passion fruit. $1.00 for flavored. I chose to get it on the rocks and went with original (lime). The server gave me options for the size and I got 16oz. The server gave me the choice of salt or sugar on the rim. I chose salt. It was 12.95. We were given free chips and salsa. They were fantastic. I was given free water. It was refreshing. The diet coke was alright and so was the free refill. The Chi Chi Shrimp was decent at first, but I wish it was less spicy. It wasn't better with the tortilla, either. I didn't care for this ensemble. The burrito wasn't big, but it was presented nicely. It was pretty tasty. Rocio's Taco Dinner ended up being excellent. The Margarita tasted great, but there was too much ice in my opinion. The service was great throughout my visit. I ordered some food here and it was Rocio's Shrimp Taco Salad and the shrimp was raw, it was still gray in some spot. The salad didn't even look like it was fresh. It had brown stuff on it. The salsa tasted weird. I think it had like white stuff in it because it was moldy so then I waited a couple hours and that's when the problem started. I order from here all the time and I usually tell my friends and family about it so they can come try it as well but this past Tuesday it wasn't really the Cilantro's I know and love. This particular night just wasn't how I expected. It would be to start off. Our server was really really nice. He took care of everything we needed. I know it's rude to eavesdrop, but I think I heard like either owner or the manager or the boss and she was yelling at an employee that she needs to speed things up and I just didn't find that nice because it was packed. Like this girl seem liked she was doing 1 million things all at once, but she was really nice. She brought me and my friend our food. The food was really good as always. It was a little cold, but we didn't mind it because the food was still good, but I think the owner of the boss or the manager or whatever that lady was needs to be a little more lenient and nicer to employees especially on a crazy night like Taco Tuesday but overall I give the experience two stars. I ordered steak quesadillas since I was craving them, and to my greatest surprise they came out with ground beef! Instead of steak! Steak which we paid extra for, had I known it was going to be ground beef I wouldn't have ordered it. They tried to be sneaky and smash pieces together so it appeared to be steak but it was definitely ground beef. The drink prices are not listed on the menu, they are on average $15 each. For a 'steak' burrito, 'steak' quesadilla, red sangria and large strawberry marg the total came to $75! That is crazy prices for far below average food. The inside is cute but I can see why there is nobody coming in. Just take your business to chipotle. Shame on them for not having enough pride in their restaurant to serve quality food. will never be back and will never recommend. read more

About a week ago I found myself in homewood for work. I'm not in this area often, but this place was recommended by the client i was visiting, and we were STARVING. Another coworker picked it up, so i didn't see the actual restaurant or get a feel for the atmosphere at all. All i know is, this was the best veggie burrito I think I've ever had. Seriously, this sucker was LOADED, not just with your standard green pepper and onion fare. Bell peppers in red, green, and yellow, plus corn, black beans, broccoli, tomato, and zucchini. As a first timer, I wasn't sure what to expect but my overall experience ended up being a pleasant surprise. I happened to be in the area unexpectedly and decided to meet my family for a quick lunch. We arrived around noon on a Sunday afternoon to a fairly empty restaurant. We were greeted immediately by a server and seated shortly thereafter. Our server came over to take our drink order right after we sat down too. The restaurant has nice traditional Mexican decor and a pleasant ambiance. There was an odd pungent odor in the air though. It kinda smelled like cleaning products mixed with something I couldn't quite place. I got used to the smell though and it didn't ruin my experience. We all opted for tacos with rice and refried beans. We shared steak, beef and shrimp tacos. They were all pretty tasty and filling. They were served with lettuce, tomatoes and cheese but I had for a side of pico de gallo too. The fresh pico gave the tacos a slight kick. I liked the beef taco the best but they were all really tasty. The rice and beans were were good too. I wouldn't say the rice was the most flavorful I've eaten but it was still edible. The portion size was average but the meal was more than satisfying. I'd say the restaurant is slightly more expensive then most Mexican places. The taco dinners were $15-16. The bills was $55 for three taco dinners and 3 Cokes. With tax and a generous tip, the bill was over $65. That's pricey for a Mexican joint in the suburbs in my opinion. I probably won't return anytime soon but it'll remain on my list of acceptable dining options in the Homewood/Hazel Crest area. read more

They do a lot well. Service and attitudes were great. I was seated immediately. My waitress took my order right when I was ready. Chips and salsa were available while I waited for my entree. The wait time was very reasonable. The food was good. I enjoyed my chilaquiles. I had to ask for eggs so I don't know if they came with as a standard or not. The flavor was good and the heat was just right. The burn didn't outlast the food which I appreciated. The decor was homey if a little beat up. Everything seemed clean including the bathroom. A very "mom and pop" atmosphere. The pricing was fine. The big downfall of this restaurant is its location. It's not in a very noticeable place. Ironically it's very accessible. I just don't think many people know it exists. I would recommend this place for a casual meal any day. I would also eat here again. read more

I just got Catfished by Cilantro. I'm mad as hell. I ordered my meal via a delivery app (you know the one), and just like that, my doorball rang and Cilantro was in the building. They spent a few extra bucks on the sleek black containers that had a nice little Cilantro sticker on top. The spread was generous...three chicken tacos, spanish rice, guac garnished with cotija and spices. Elotes was actually an option for a side, so as you can imagine, I thought Cilantro and I were a match made in heaven. Before I get to the brass and tacks of it all, I know we can agree that if one were to name a restaurant Cilantro, one would imagine that the food of such restaurant would be.....flavorful. Yup, you guessed right. This was my preconceived notion prior to taking a bite. So, please before you judge...put yourself in my shoes.. 1. You pay a nice little chunk of change to have a meal delivered 2. When you open up said meal, the presentation is beautiful And then...you dig in... ... ... Nothing. A flavorless beauty. I peeled back the double layers of luke warm chewy tortillas and glanced at the seven shreds of chicken per taco. I stirred the guacamole because clearly someone had forgotten to mix in the seasonings. I opened the container of elotes to find boiled canned corn. I tried to enjoy it...I even offered for others to try it and was swatted away. My heart was broken, and I knew that we would never meet again...ever. The moral of this story is, don't get catfished. Loved this place many years ago when they were under different management. The food is still OK depending on what you get, but pricing doesn't match the quality. I was in there recently after having not been in over a year. When the check came I thought it seemed high, but that seems to be the norm these days. I checked that everything we ordered was on there correctly, but admittedly did not add it up. I just made sure the prices matched the menu and it did. I tipped (in cash) a little over 20 percent on the final total. I'm glad something made me check the receipt again an hour after I left because I was shocked to see a 20 percent gratuity added at the bottom of the bill. This restaurant is very sneaky with this because it is not displayed on the menu, and a sign that has it by the front door is covered by a plant. Normally you see automatic gratuity for parties of 6 or more, but as we were told by our waitress when we went back to be reimbursed, this is standard for them on all checks starting 6 months ago. It may seem petty to go back and get some money back, but I'm not tipping someone twice. I was a little disappointed our waitress didn't check to make sure we saw gratuity was added when we handed her a cash tip. It all feels shady, and like they're hoping people will not notice this and tip on top of that automatic gratuity. Now more than ever, look over your checks with a fine tooth comb! read more

Margaritas were excellent. Food was very good. Staff was friendly and fast. Ambiance on patio and side room was very pleasant. They were also very nice to our dog who we tied up just outside the fence. Only reason I didn't give them 5 stars was because they snuck a 20% tip onto the bill, even though there were only two of us, and added a surcharge for using a credit card. I gave them a 20% tip without noticing. So ended up giving them a 40% tip. Should have noticed, but the Margarita was strong and our dog was getting restless. After my wife received her food and on my fourth try, I was finally able to order the Pollo con rajas. It was cold but I was starving... my daughters to go order never showed up and after my check was paid and we were ready to leave we were told it would be another 20 minutes... no way Jose. They couldn't even refund my to go order, everyone there is clueless. It was an absolute disaster. Some poor woman was there waiting for her food and was almost in tears. Nobody cares and all they want is your check? It's very apparent this place is holding on by its very last leg.
