Service was cool, food was great, but $52 for four tacos, an elote with steak and a lemonade is a bit much. Now I can go to La Cecina on Burnham about a mile away and get the same service and same food, PLUS complimentary chips and salsa for less than half the price. Nice spot but I felt robbed. read more

I haven't been here in over 20 years but remembered the food was amazing. Decided to stop here with a co-worker for lunch today. The service was HORRIBLE, so we left. When we walked in the waitress didn't even great is, she looked at us stupidly. So, I asked can we get a table she said yeah, but didn't show us to a seat. I asked about a menu, she said she would bring them. We were sitting there while she was on her phone at the counter with NO customers there other than 2 people at the gaming machines. Usually you get chips and salsa when you sat down in most Mexican restaurants. When she finally came over and asked about drinks, I asked for water and asked about chips and salsa. She rudely and sarcastically said, give me a minute and I'll bring it out with the water. I told her nevermind because she was rude and I didn't appreciate her attitude or how she lacked customer service from the moment we walked in. We left without ordering anything. We ate at Taco's and Burritos Rancho Grande. Their food is amazing and the service is so much better. Please do not waste your time going to this place which is overly priced and has HORRIBLE Customer service. Well I've been bk the prices keep going up $4.20 For one taco I add cilantro so nearly $5 the same amount of meat nothing extra for your money 3rd time stale chips and missing queso cheese. I'm kinda over it at this point $50 for tacos is kinda the end point go me I'd normally get there special like 11 tacos around the same price but u have to buy like 24 tacos now fir the new special. The food was really good. I enjoyed the small space. The server Tanya was very helpful. It got a little crowded though and she was the only server during lunch time on a Saturday. I had the complimentary chips and Salsa which I loved. I asked for more and she said I would be charged $2.25 for any additional chips after my 2nd helping. read more

The service was great. Prompt and friendly. Looking over the menu I noticed that the prices were on the high side. My first thought was the food must be really good. I ordered the two tostada suezas lunch, it came with rice and beans. When she brought the meal I was disappointed that the tostadas were those generic brand tostadas that are ready made. The meat was thin strips that I think were reheated with lettuce tomatoes, sour cream and white cheese. The beans and the rice were the best part. It was just ok. I had a coke with the meal, a bottle of coke and a glass with ice, that was $3.35! The whole thing was twenty two and some change. I left a 25% tip of $5.00. I have been to this establishment numerous of times, and I can say they have the BEST tacos in the south suburban area. Every time I stop by, everybody is friendly, accommodating, and generous. I really appreciate authentic homemade Mexican food, el Mariachi apparently does too. Practically living in the South suburbs it's sometimes difficult to find a good restaurant. Fortunately, this restaurant is located in (Torrence ave) a quite busy area. Even thought, it's located in a busy avenue it really lacks of costumers. That's too bad, because the food is absolutely delightful. Something as simple as a Agua de Horchata (with powdered cinnamon on top) and their Burrito Suizo beats its local competitors. Their Burrito Suizo it's almost twice as big as a standard burrito. I've also had a main course plate here (I can't remember the name) but I will never forget how good it tasted, It reminded me of food that my mother makes at home. Despite of their authentic food this place has many down falls, such as, they'll charge for extra chips and salsa, this place has almost no business, and surprisingly the food is overpriced. But I guess, the old' saying "you get what you pay for!" applies here. read more

Been eating here for years...since they were in the strip mall on the other side of Torrence. Authentic Mexican food. I LOVE the steak tostados. The steak is always seasoned nicely and cooked perfectly. The complimentary chips and salsa are always a nice compliment. The margaritas are good but lacks enough tequila. The food is always fresh and good. The seating area is very casual and intimate but could use some updating. Service is good and food preparation is quick. One of ny favorites. Come at least once a week if not once every two weeks. Food has never disappointed me or my family. When tacos are mentioned my kids say El Mariachi!! Been coming here since before they were located on this side of Torrence. I'm not too big on the drinks but I would get the $5 lime margarita. There was a drunk man who was sleep and then woke up and didn't want to pay his bill or leave. He was cursing and was acting as if he was going to hit his girlfriend. My kids are with us and they are hearing the vulgar language. We were picking up to leave the restaurant. The manager says oh he's old and your husband will protect you all I say ummm of course but what does that have to do with my kids hearing all his threats to his girlfriend. He goes to the man and says you are cursing in front of the kids. (I respect that) Then the girl friend comes over and apologizes as well. No problem but I felt that once the police showed up and the ambulance took the man away the manager should of apologized to us and offered some type of accommodation for the inconvenience. He tired to say bye to us and that's when I told him how disappointed I was in his services. It's understandable that he can't control a drunk but he could of done better with the customers that had to witness that situation. He then apologized once I told him my mind. Five stars reflects my rating for this type of restaurant. It's not fine dining and it's not trendy; it's just a great, neighborhood restaurant with good Mexican food, that I happened into while on a business trip in the area. The tacos were exactly what I'd expect to get at a taqueria in Mexico, and that's exactly what I was looking for, given that I live in an area where only pretentious, faux-Mexican restaurants are generally available. I had tacos de bistec and al pastor, and took a few tamales rojos de puerco to eat later, and was not disappointed. I went here with coworkers for lunch and was not impressed. The food is not bad, but definitely overpriced for the area. There are 2 other Mexican restaurants in the area (Don Pedros and Coculas)-- both of which have pretty good food and priced a lot cheaper. They give you chips and salsa with your food, but if you ask for more, they charge you extra. I've never heard of a Mexican restaurant charging customers extra for more chips and salsa. I ordered their Steak Torta. For chicken and beef, it's $6.95 and for steak it's $7.95. Their food is overpriced and it's nothing special to make it stand out over others in the area. I will most likely not be going back to this place since I can get the same food within the vicinity for cheaper. read more

This restaurant is a hit or miss with the food. The first time I ever went to eat here the food was delicious. The second time i went it was lousy and I was in such a rush I didn't have the time to take it back or else I would have. It just wasn't good. The steak was tough and lacked seasoning. I also didn't have the toppings on one of my tacos which happened to be very dry smh. The third Time I went I was with someone and the food was good again and then the fourth time it was lousy. So it just depends on who the cooks the food for the day which determines whether or not you're going to have a good meal unfortunately. Went here on 10/26/15 based on a friend's suggestion. Extensive menu, nice sized restaurant. I had a hard time choosing a menu item but the waitress helped me to decide on getting the shrimp tacos. You get to choose if you want corn or flour tacos. 3 filled tacos came my way with nice sized shrimp in them and tasty. But believe it or not, what blew my mind was the mexican rice! Man, I could eat a plate of just that, do you hear me???? I've never felt that way about mexican rice but theirs is DELICIOUS! I Have ordered food from El Mariache for many years without incident. I have gone there so many times that the counter staff knows my face. Today was very different. I sent my husband to pick up my order. I purchased three meal specials. My mother and I ate the majority of our food, and my cousin started eating hers a few hours later. To her surprise there was a toothpick in one of her shrimp tacos! When I called the manager was super rude and after keeping me on hold for twenty minutes said we don't use toothpicks. This concerned me even more because that means the cook had it in his mouth! I will never eat another thing from this restaurant again! CHECK YOUR FOOD IF YOU DARE EAT THERE!!!!!
