If you or somebody you know loves cigars, this is the only place in North County to go. Gregg runs a unbelievable shop and has unbelievable knowledge of what's in his shop. I'm very finicky when it comes to the type of cigar I like. Gregg knows me and always brings out cigars. I've never heard of yet. Always love. It's just the best place. read more

Small shop but they are big on hospitality with a nice selection. Room in back with a couple of TVs and about 5 old but comfortable chairs. Yes, prices are a little high, but that's what necessary to have a cigar spot I. Expensive tourist real estate. Will definitely pay a visit next time. read more

Best cigar lounge in the area, period. Quickly becoming a regular here. They always have a great humidor with the widest selection of cigars. From Drew Estate, Camacho, and Cohiba. But really where they stand out is with their owners. They set the bar high on building relationships with their customer base and having a high passion for cigars. It just sets the perfect tone that makes you want to stay and enjoy your cigar at the lounge. Gregg, the owner is one of the most stand up and friendliest guys I've ever met. He's always making sure you're doing okay, gives great recommendations, teaching you something new about the cigar world, and overall is a great guy to be around. I've been a manager in retail for years and a business owner himself, so it's safe for me to say that the Cigar Grotto is THE prime example of how a small business should be ran. This Cigar Grotto has always been a favorite in North County San Diego. I'm not a smoker, but I do like the aroma of a cigar now and then. My husband picks up the Short Story and I usually go for one in the cherry aroma assortment, although my husband usually ends up smoking it and I get the aroma of cherries in the air, which is all I wanted in the first place. The staff here are helpful, the store is small, but full of good things. They have an extensive pipe collection (I always think of pipes as something sophisticated people smoke after they retire). lol An Indian Chief to greet you and free cut and matches with your cigar purchase! read more

Top Tier Service. Owner welcomed me with open arms. I'm quite a newbie and he was very patient with me. He asked me all of the right questions and found a cigar for me in no time. When I finally did get to enjoy my cigar I realized he picked the perfect one! He was great at creating conversation and made me feel at home. I can't wait for covid to be over so I can enjoy smoking in his beautiful smoking lounge. Very nice ambiance and very nice family owned business. I highly recommend for new cigar smokers. Decent selection of cigars in the main walk in humidor, what is not posted though is that many of the premium cigars are not located in the main walk in humidor. I asked the staff if they carried Fuente Anejo No.77 Sharks and they did (astonishingly they had half a box in inventory of this hard to find gem), but I needed to go to one of the smaller humidors located outside to purchase it. If I did not ask and just walked in I would have had no way of knowing they carried these specifc premium cigars. Also the Padron cigars are stored in these smaller humidors outside which is incredible as these cigars are such great sellers in the market. It would be nice if the premium cigars were visible in the main humidor. One would think these have a higher margins than average cigars and the shop would want potential customers to see these beautiful sticks. The lounge area is in the back and the sofas were comfortable it just did not have the feel of a premium cigar lounge. It felt very much like a local smoke shop and not like some of the larger lounges in San Diego. read more

Had a really great experience here. I came to get my husband a cigar and cutter for christmas and had no idea what to get. I was able to give my budget and the occasion and just received great help in picking out the right one. I was waiting for my husband to experience the cigar to fully review and he really enjoyed it! This is a somewhat hidden gem in down town Oceanside. The owner and all of his staff are super helpful every time I go in. They know where their stuff is and have a solid knowledge base of each of their products. I love black label trading company cigars that are sold in very few places across the country and this happens to be one of them. If you love a full bodied cigar and haven't tried one yet head over to this place and try one out you will not regret it! read more

There are very few legitimate cigar shops in North County San Diego, and even fewer that don't charge tourist trap prices, actually know the product (the owner Greg is an amazingly nice dude), AND will always make you feel at home in this little den-away-from-home. If you're looking for great and vast cigar options at all price points (or pipe tobacco if that's your thing), t's a great little spot that's been around Oceanside for way longer than I have, and there's a reason this place has stood the test of time. read more

Life offers random opportunities to meet terrific people. Yesterday driving home from Orange County, I choose to drive down PCH the rest of the way home. Desiring a Christmas cigar, I pulled over checked Yelp and found myself across the street! Entering the store I met Gregg, who made me feel very welcome. He gave me some terrific advice for some cigar selections and hooked me with a great 15 cigar travel caddy. I ended up enjoying a cigar, watching get some football and talking with several very regulars. Excellent cigar lounge, great service and atmosphere, this is my new "go to" cigar shop in North San Diego County! read more

Well, this is long over-due. I've been a fan of the Cigar Grotto for more than 5 years now and have nothing but kind words for the store's proprietors, Gregg and his wife Dee Dee. As a young pup with no cigar experience at all, Gregg took me under his wing and helped me refine my taste by listening to my reviews and making suggestions based upon my feedback. Together, over the years, his keen sense of taste and sharp memory for what I found enjoyable helped him consistently steer me toward cigars that matched my palate (and my wallet). At the Grotto you'll find all the cigar gadgets you need and a selection of cigars that is so meticulously well-kept you needn't look elsewhere. The Grotto throws great cigar dinner events every month at the neighboring restaurants and there's always a sports game to been seen in the lounge. I've gotta say, the locals are great and I can't stop in without seeing at least 5 friendly faces. It's always like Cheers at the Grotto. read more

Hands down best customer service I have ever experienced anywhere.. EVER. The owner, Greg, always makes us feel like family every single time we come in here.. which really isn't that often but it always surprises me how he remembers us. We were having a bit of a sunday funday and Justin wanted to smoke cigars together so we came here and Greg picked out a cigar for me called Dirt. He said it's one of his wife's favorites. I don't smoke cigars all that often so he took care of trimming the end for me and making sure everything was good before giving me my cigar. It was really sweet and nice, I smoked almost the whole thing. The atmosphere in the Cigar Grotto feels like home, there are lots of pictures on the wall and while we were there the hockey game was on and the couches are super comfy.. I asked how in the world it could be that much and he showed my the price tags, which I missed on the beers, $18.99 and $21.99 for 4 packs of beer! These are overpriced at $15/ 4 pack and these guys took it to the next level. Again, overpriced and rude but it's beautiful day and I paid and took my stuff. But don't worry, when I got home and I took it out of the bag the beers cans were dusty, maybe even dirty, and I checked the cans then their canned dates were almost a year ago! There seemed to be more tables and not enough comfortable seating like couches where people can relax, socialize, and enjoy a cigar. Overall, it's a nice, clean place with good service, but based on my experience I probably wouldn't return.
