Don't get me wrong, this is the one coffee shop smack bang in the middle of the CBD that sells bloody good coffee with Bonsoy. There are new bean blends and origins on the menu each week, it sells quirky macarons (think hot cross buns and ANZAC Day specials) and it rocks the warehouse chique atmosphere to a tee. There is a huge BUT though. While the service is quick, it has no personality or concern for the fact that you are more than a soy latte or a pour over or a piccolatte drinker. I think they can sense my anti-hipster and as a result avoid making eye contact or engaging in a smile and a conversation. There lacks a vibe, a mabo, a feel to this place that comes with a buzzing staff who make an effort to know your name, have a chat with you while waiting for coffee and greet you with a smile. But if you're happy enough to join the line of suits waiting for their cuppa joe and ingrained on who just posted a new pic of their cat on Instagram (guilty) then this is the place for you.

The barista understood the strange Perth habit of a Long Macchiato - which was great to hear. I grabbed the granola, which was balanced and not too sweet. The chunky clusters of oat, walnut, almond, apricot, and cranberry was crunchy yet chewy - the baked nature had not taken all the moisture away. Coffee ... the real reason to drop in... I began to build up in my head what such a place would be like - envisioning some kind of aurora borealis supernova of coffee amazingness. The coffee is 5 Senses and is served quickly, spot on and with latte art style (if that's your drink). It does what all 5 Senses coffee supplied shops do - deliver you a smashing good coffee every time. But being the demanding, picky Adelaidian I was raised to be I wanted more... I wish I could rock up to the counter and there would be Larry, and I'd say "Lazzzzaaaa give us your best cup o' joe for the day mate!" I would be surprsied by some new random coffee bean or roaster from San Fran I'd never heard of, or I could get my latte with a dash of whiskey or as part of a tasting plate or paired with a chocolate or tortel of the day. It is entirely my fault that this cafe hasn't lived up to my expectations and that I had such high hopes in the beginning. Please don't let that stop you dropping in here for a coffee, nibble or laptop coffice (coffee-office) session though. It has a great little atmosphere with a stack of hipster magazines that I would never read and consistently good coffee.

I also love the fact that they are in Regent Arcade, which is jam packed with gems these days, and is still somewhat of a hidden, secret squirrel spot. But besides all these fabulous elements, I'm just not feeling it. I find the coffee blend used is quite bitter and haven't found the service to always be with a smile. Additionally, the music is quite loud, so sitting inside the store and trying to talk with friends is a bit of a challenge. All in all, I wouldn't avoid L&L completely, but if alternatives are offered I personally would probably give them a go.

Ok, so that was one of the first things I heard from another customer (complaining to a waitress), within minutes of sitting down with my best friend for coffee here. Should I be careful in talking with the staff here? Is this how staff typically talk to their customers? I'm a bit wary of this shop now. After starting my day here at The Coffee Spot, I was expecting a great kick-start to my day. It wasn't really all that. I got what I needed out of it though. The carrot cake was nice, but I've had much better cake put in my mouth at other coffee spots. Man...I'm starting to sound like I can afford coffee every morning. What am I turning into? I was expecting banana bread, but they don't sell that here, so I was sucked into trying their carrot cake. It wasn't bad. It wasn't great. It was just your typical carrot cake, not as exciting as you might think. I moved on to the next shop as quickly as I gulped down their cafe latte.

Ok now I've got that off my chest, this place, its breakfasts and coffees are criminally good. Select your poison from 3 different single origins for your coffee, but know that none of them are as good as their Indian Tiger Mountain. Not just because the name is ninja cool, or that it's the first engrish coffee bean I've seen in Adelaide, but because it is strong and fierce like a tiger mountain would be. The teas also are from some local field or something, but really you're not coming all this way for some flavoured water. Sit down amongst a mash up of big communal and group tables, worn couches, bench seats or up at the piano if you fancy and watch as every mother's group, young family, hipster on their bike and local wander in like zombies looking for their coffee fix of the day. Service is punctual and friendly and soon we receive our breakfasts that I had to double check the prices of because they were so big. $17 for a big breakfast and $15 for haloumi, avo and poached eggs is ridicurous. So was the actual breakfast. Perfectly cooked, gooey poached eggs atop a crunchy white piece of toast with a simple haloumi and rocket salad made for a happy Chloe. Unpretentious on every level, simple meals and smashing coffee make this place as mysterious and hidden as an Indian Tiger Mountain. Get along before it becomes endangered and overrun with hipsters.

Very important when you are desperate need of a caffeine fix! Tables are spaced so that it isn't too noisy when busy which I also appreciate. A variety of very yummy looking light lunch, dessert, and general treats are available also. Whilst these looked very nice I was a bit confused as they bother to tell you the calorie content but not how much the actual thing costs! I prefer to know what I'm paying up front when at a cafe. There are still many shop spaces vacant around, but this was a well serviced cafe by the local people. They have two main areas for consumers to use - one past the counter, and one as you step inside. They also have some nice seating outside, but its quite shaded early. The floors captured me for the simple wooden-crate-style look they have. Sadly, it would've been a long haul to find all the wood and fit it together, but the replica laminate was a nice warmth to the rooms. Tall ceilings allow for some interesting art to be displayed, and nice rust wired and rustic pieces feature around the cafe, bringing a clean yet rustic feel to the place. The counter of reclaimed random wood was definitely a highlight of the features. Staff were totally lovely and engaging - which is a personal fave for me - and the coffees we had were marvellous. I was really glad to have found a unique place that wasn't too hipster, too populated or too squished in. For a Friday, there was plenty of people to make it an enjoyable atmosphere - but I suspect that they will have many more patrons on weekends! If you are heading out to the Port, I very much recommend visiting this tiny cafe. Theres a Salvo's next door with great priced items - so fellows, you can bring your missus along and while you enjoy the serenity of your hot bevvy, she can spend up small next door.
