Arrived without a reservation on a Saturday. Good dining experience- but not exceptional. Food was good but nothing great. My pizza was a bit soggy. Calimari was ok. My table mates got muscles( very good), bruschetta (meh) and other pasta - none of it great. Service was good. In hindsight, we should have booked a table somewhere else. This friggin' star system!!! This is the 3rd time i've been caught exactly between 3 and 4 stars when having to review something. Maybe it should be an "___ out of 10" system, or summat. Anyways, enough preamble. Me and the missus wanted to throw a birthday bash, and decided on Italian food. So we heard good things about Ciao Bella Roma, and decided to give it a shot. There were about 24 of us, so they put us in the basement room. Some people had an issue with the dim lighting, personally i found it cool and romantic, and we had the whole area to ourselves. The fact that they had a working piano in the corner was a real sweet point for me, as i was able to provide some nice background noodling, and i do tend to take to acoustic pianos in bars and restaurants the same way that toddlers take to those play areas in shopping malls with the multi-colored plastic balls. So that's worth at least 4 stars on its own. Oh, and they let us bring in our own birthday cakes, and even obliged us by presenting them on the table on fancy cake trays. These are all solid plus points. The reason I wouldn't be too quick to actually recommend this gaff to my friends is that the food is very, disappointingly average. Just about decent enough value, i suppose, but lacking flavor in the cooking, burned edges on the pizzas and the crostinis...and generally sub-par all round. Not terrible, but just very shoulder shrugging, very "hmm...yeah, its ok, but.....". Personally, i want to come out of an Italian restaurant swearing!! "THAT FOOD WAS F@%&#NG AMAZING, FU%**$#!! JE#&# #*#&ST!!" But no chance of that happening here, i' m afraid. Also, i got the feeling that in terms of friendliness and charm, the staff were, to damn with faint praise, "trying their best"!!!! I do love a good bargain and this place delivers! I came for an early bird with a friend yesterday evening for a meal, and we took advantage of their lunch/early bird offer, which runs from 12-6 daily, and gives you 2 courses and a drink (soft or wine) for the measly sum of €12.50! I started with bruschetta which came in 3 varieties, traditional tomato, aubergine and onion and a garlic butter one, a hugh portion for a starter, but I wasn't complaining! My friend had the meat bruschetta and said it was excellent. We followed up with a mushroom and cream pasta (me) and veggie pizza (her) which were really tasty and again, far larger than expected, but we gave them the old college try! The venue itself is cute bistro style and a wee bit cramped with low music and the staff are Italian and pleasant, not overbearing, which is a pet hate of mine. read more

Only order the pizza if you end up here. We ordered a pizza which was pretty good and a chicken dish that had mushrooms, grape tomatoes with a wine sauce. The chicken was low quality with chewing fat sections that could have been trimmed off originally when they were in their raw state. The dish was unthoughtful and lacked any kind of passion. I saw other chicken dishes when I walked around and they all looked to be just as bad. The waitress only came to the table once to take our order and was never seen again. I had to go up to anyone working and ask for the check. Then after I got the check nobody came so I could pay the check. So I ended up having to leave 50 Euros Cash (which I didn't want to do as the waitress was horrendous and didn't deserve a tip) just to get out of there. I went to Ciao Bella Roma restaurant this afternoon because I had always heard that their cooking was authentic. A couple of my Italian friends had recommended the place to me. And I have to agree that the menu and atmosphere was genuine. The food was a tad salty but I like savoury meals. I ordered a pizza with black olives and anchovies so this was one of the salty meals on the menu. In any case, the waitress dropped a jug of water down to the table so I was able to drink as much water as I wanted without feeling like a nuisance. The restaurant is doing a real great lunch special. As long as you come in before 6pm, you can get a starter, a main and a glass of wine for 8.95 Euros. My pizza was quite large and could have fed two small people. I don't think you'll find such a cheap offer elsewhere in Temple Bar. read more

You know it's a good Italian restaurant if your Italian friends go there on a regular basis. A friend of mine celebrated his birthday here and I have to say he chose well. The waiters were all Italian, the decor brought back memories of my time in Rome and the food was amazing! I had Pizza Funghi- mushroom pizza, and it was huge and yummy. The others were similarly impressed with their main courses. The waiter left jugs of water on the table and kept on checking if we needed more regularly. For dessert we had coffee- nice and strong- and I was going to try their Tiramisu- I adore Tiramisu- but unfortunately they were all out of Tiramisu so I tried the Cannolli and it was great. So if you like Italian food and a good atmosphere, I can highly recommend Ciao Bella Roma. read more

This cosy little place has a nice atmosphere and a deadly early bird- starter and main with a glass of wine or beer for like 12 euro or something. It's ALWAYS busy. They have what's probably the best carbonara in all of Dublin. The wood fired pizza is fabulous as well. The only thing I wasn't too excited about was the minute steak on the early bird. It wasn't bad, but I wouldn't get it again. The caprese salad is lovely as well. Service can be quite slow at busy times, but the staff is always pleasant and accommodating. I now actually enjoy an Italian restaurant :) The place is just adorable and feels so authentic. The menu is varied, pizza selection is great and not typical at all, prices are quite low and portion sizes are HUGE and food is of great quality...seriously! Since the portion sizes are so big we decided to just get one starters between us, which was a great choice. We got the meat platter which was quite generous. Obviously we then ordered pizzas since everyone else's looked so damn delishhh. This was such a good choice - pizzas are honestly so big and so good. We could only eat half each even though we were initially starving. Can't wait to go back again, so not a typical generic Italian restaurant. Ciao Bella Roma! Forget your New Years resolutions, unless they're to eat more Italian food and save some cash! On Saturdays, this place has a great special: pizza or pasta or steak filet, and starter AND complimentary glass of wine or soda, for just around 12 euro. The portions are huge and absolutely delicious! We got the veggie pizza that came with loads of toppings. We also had the rigatoni with aubergine and tomato sauce. I would suggest both! The only reason they get 4 stars is that their starters were pretty 'meh'. Their was a prosciutto starter that had one slice of bread with a single slice of prosciutto which was pretty small and the prosciutto didn't taste great. The service was SO fast and they shuffled people in and out quickly, but you didn't feel rushed to leave either. They weren't bringing the checks without asking, but we're just quick to clean tables and seat new guests. Very appreciated for hungry patrons! Birthday pizza! Yes, one of my favourite things in the world to eat is pizza, so for my birthday celebrations we went to Ciao Bella Roma on Parliament Street. I've actually been here before and have had take out pizza on occasion. So this time, I booked a table for 8 of us and we had very good service. I was very impressed. I was also impressed by their beer menu, which included a very hard to find Italian beer, Menabrea. That really made the night for me. Besides my friends of course. Dinner was delicious. I had pizza, the Ciao Bella Rome, which had prosciutto crudo, rocket and tomatoes. I actually wanted to substitute the prosciutto for bresaola, but for some reason, perhaps the bresaola was already pre-destined for the antipasto plate, they wouldn't allow it. I still find it odd, but my friend bought me the plate so I could give him the prosciutto and I could put it on my pizza. Ah friends. If I could give him stars, he would get six. Pizza great. Beer great. The tiramisu was also yummy but I was so full, I didn't even finish my half. read more

Best pizza I've had outside of Italy. End of. Come before 6pm on a weekday and you'll get an incredible (and huge) pizza with a starter and a glass of house wine for 8e95. Now that's value. They open til late (and i mean LATE) on fridays and saturdays, so if you can pull yourself together enough to sit at a table and use cutlery (ah sure, just use your paws) after a night out, then this certainly beats a dirty kebab! read more

I never had been to this place and Italian food is my absolute favorite type of food. I decided to set up a party here for about 25 people. I had to call 3 times to make the reservation and in one of those times, it had to be a call to the manager (it seemed a bit much but I did it to be sure every detail would be fine). It seemed to me they are not really experienced in catering for small/medium events and they were a bit clumsy overall. They allowed me to bring my own birthday cake and provided plates, just saying they would not cut it for me (is that weird?). I did not mind, though. It was nice that they gave me the whole section of the basement area where there is even a piano and the atmosphere is much more intimate with low light, different to the upstairs - crowded, busy and noisy as the place was never empty and the waitresses kept on asking me to confirm if any of my guests would be late or would cancel as they could need an extra chair/table for upstairs. Also, that they put water jars on the tables. My guests wanted to opt for the early bird deal and the waiter kept on saying they needed to be seated and having the food by 6pm otherwise no exception would be made and people would have to order from the regular menu. Everyone went for the deal of a main of pizza or pasta, a starter and a drink for 12.50€. I saw their regular menu which is more varied and has nicer options, so maybe the food is better also. I tried the bruschetta mista as a starter and it was very small (only 2 pieces of toasted french bread topped with some vegetables and oil). As main I had a vegetarian pizza with mushrooms and cheese. I was not pleasantly surprised by the burned edges of everyone's pizzas and the bland taste of both with the waiters constantly forgetting the orders with the "who ordered what" question. Plus, there was no olive oil or cheese on the tables. The ones who ordered chicken with fries were happier with the size of their portions and none of my Italian friends really liked the food or saw it as traditionally Italian. I tried the rigatoni alla siciliana that was the best thing I tasted in there - great sized portion of rigatoni pasta with garlic, tomato sauce, aubergine and parmesan cheese, so if you want to give it a go, this is the best option! In the end, the waiters once again kept asking me to be sure I would be handling all the cash and payments as they never use an individual payment system for bigger groups, otherwise they could make a loss in the counting (again not massively experienced, flexible or organized staff). In general everything was very good because of the company and the occasion, not really because of the food or service. I think I might go back only to try the vegetarian calzone...who knows? read more

I must ask for forgiveness as after going to Ciao Bella Roma I feel I've done italian restaurants wrong! I just got so bored of getting the same uninventive crap that I felt I could have replicated at home for a small fraction of the price - that for about the past 10 years I have avoided going to italian restaurants. Last night we wandered by this place is what i can only describe as a hunger-induced state of indecisiveness. We stopped in despite my general misgivings on italian restaurants. The staff greeted us promptly and were very friendly. My menu-reading indecisiveness continued because I wanted protein and carbs and it seems that italian cruisine will only give you one or the other. After we started with a shared mixed bruschetta plate, I finally ordered grilled chicken, Hazel M went for the pasta special. My chicken arrived and it was gorgeous, but, as expected, it came with no carbs. We were pleased with our food, but I bemoaned (what I thought was quietly) that I really should have ordered chips. Suddenly a plate of chips arrived at the table - on the house! We decided to go for dessert, Hazel went to the lemon sorbet and I went for profriteroles. My expectations were low - I expected the usual pre-made defrosted ones I'm so used to getting in restaurants. But what I got was beautiful. The pastry was fresh, they were filled with a delightful creme de patisseree (or whatever the italian equivalent is) and the chocolate sauce was beautiful. I tasted the lemon sorbet too and it was divine - like the true essence of lemoniness (yes that is a word - look it up!) To finish we were given a glass of lemoncello (sp?) also on the house. I could only have a little sip as I was driving (something I remembered after I ordered wine, but thankfully before I drank more than a taste!), but it was beautiful. it came to about 30 euro each which for two mains, two dessert, one starter, two glasses of wine, tea, coffee, a side and two liquers, seemed pretty good. supernoms! read more

It took me a long time to find this place. I always thought that it was too touristy for me, based solely on the location. I was very wrong. First off this is what pizza should be. Yes they do other italian food (the gnocchi is unreal) but the pizza is the real draw. It's a thin base with a crispy crust. The sauce is great and the toppings are fresh and taste fantastic. The staff are friendly and give good recommendations. I had the pizza with the parma ham and rocket and I would highly recommend this. They also have an early bird menu which I go the second time I went back. I had the bruschetta to start with a margarita pizza for main. Both were superb. They also give you a glass of wine as part of the menu and it come is at €8 (I think). This must be the best value meal in town, especially considering the quality of the food. read more

I absolutely love this place. First of the bat, it's full of Italian people, which immediately suggests that the food is authentic. And it really is. The best thing about this place is the deadly early bird menu - a starter, main course, and glass of wine for €8.95 (last time I was there anyways...). I suggest the carbonara- it's SAVAGE! If you don't make the early bird, the food is still affordable and you really get quality for what you pay for. The final cherry on the tiramisu (ba-doom pah!) is the fact that you can stroll in here in the wee hours of the morning, after a few pints or a after you've been kicked out of your local watering hole. If you are looking for a good Italian restautant in Dublin well then this is the place to go. Everything in this restaurant is real Italian, the staff, the decor and best of all the food!! The staff are nice and friendly while the food itself is beautiful. I have tried a lot of Italian restaurants around Dublin as my ex girlfriend was Italian and each time we would always come back to this place. Even she found that the food here was the closest thing to the real food she ate at home in Italy. The brushcetta, the steak with pepper sauce and pasta arrabiata are all dishes i would highly recommend while anyone seeking a real taste of Italy should try the tiramasu for dessert :) read more

This is a lovely place for lunch. Not far from my place of business, I enjoy having my lunches here and have fell into a routine of frequenting here about 3-4 times a month. The staff are prompt, polite, and helpful. It's a perfect place to meet someone for a lunch and chat. Their lunch special is friendly enough. €8.95 for 2 courses and a glass of wine. Granted it's a small glass, but sure it's lunch time not cocktail hour. Recently I had the garlic bread as a starter, which was not overly exciting but still pleasant. The pasta mains were lovely. We went here based on a friend's recommendation of good but inexpensive food. I was disappointed on both fronts. In relation to the price, it depends on what you order. I was unlucky enough to order chicken with lemon - avoid this at all costs. The portion was tiny, with only a small piece of chicken breast with a side salad, but the cost was roughly €14! My friends had more substantial meals. One of them had the calzone and, having tried it, it was just as unappetising. The dough was extremely salty. The place was extremely busy when we were here so the staff were rushed and the food took an awfully long time. On the bright side, the menu is huge with around 70 dishes (not including deserts), so I'm sure there are a few great ones in there. I think I should go back to this place to form a better opinion. We were all pretty starving and we settled on this restaurant. A friend of mine loves it so we came in. The great thing is that they are open pretty late, we got there at around 11pm, and it was open and they even let people in later than that. My friends' dishes seemed average to good. I had a pasta with pecorino cheese and was very disappointed. Some people ordered fries and these were not good at all. Old time favorite turn me down recently. Food was good (would give 4 star) but service is continuously degrading. If you are for cheese treat try baked Scamorza. Pizzas are good as well (dough is specially yummy). Their set menu is short but its great value, if you go for a la carte its much more expensive (for pizza you need to pay the same amount as for set menu). Overall if you are around try it, but there are better spots in town. read more

Really enjoyed my evening in Ciao Bella Roma and will definitely return. I've walked past here many times but only recently decided to visit after reading all the positive reviews on Yelp. The place was full but it didn't take long to get a table. Now to be honest I have mixed feelings about the service over the course of the evening. It was pretty slow and we found ourselves sitting for long periods when waiting to order at different times over the course of the evening. I know they were busy but it's still not really an excuse! But the waiter was a really nice guy and the slightly slow service didn't impact too much on my enjoyment. He also made an excellent wine recommendation which was much appreciated and enjoyed. For starters we ordered the Assortment of cured meats and cheeses served with Italian flat bread. Really enjoyed this and it was huge! Thoroughly recommend. Luckily we had already opted to share a pizza as we were pretty full after starter. Lovely pizza, personally I would have preferred more in the topping department!, but the person I was sharing with wasn't so adventurous so we opted for the Quattro Formaggi! Very good though, lovely base. For dessert I went for the old reliable Tiramisu which was gorgeous here, really moist and delicious. Overall I really enjoyed myself here, love Italian food, decent portions, great value for money. Will definitely return and look forward to trying more on the menu. read more

Overpriced, overcrowded and underwhelming. I've been here twice now and left disappointed. The first time I ordered a standard four cheese pizza and the second time I had a calzone. I thought the pizza base I got the first time might have been a mistake as it was exceptionally salty and unappetising. Turns out, this was not the case as the calzone was exactly the same. The food arrived late to our table and one of my friends had to wait an additional five minutes after we received our food and his pizza was burnt. The restaurant is tightly packed, loud and houses possibly the most unfitting music selection I've ever come across in an Italian restaurant. I'm not a fan of outright belittling an establishment but I draw the line at paying over 25 euro for an underperforming meal. The only redeeming trait this place has is the staff were friendly all throughout our stay. I can't imagine that being easy in such a hectic environment. read more

I see a lot of people claiming their Italian friends swear by this place but we've yet to see an actual Italian reviewing it. I still remember my first pizza on one of my visits to Italy. It was pure shock. I've had my share of good pizzas (in France where I grew up) but this was another level. It is absurd to compare the real thing to what they make in Ciao Bella Roma. Absurd! My friend had the spicy pepperoni and it was ok, nothing special, perhaps a bit above Milano's. The base wasn't crispy and thin enough to look like the real thing. My pizza was quite unpleasant. I had the 4 cheeses, usually my favourite. There was so much cheese that it became sickening after the first slice. And besides the 4 tiny pieces of gorgonzola, the rest melted in an extremely bland mixture. A nice thin, crispy base would have made it better but mine was also undercooked and "puffy". They served us the pizzas without any condiments so we asked for pepper and oil. I blackenned the cheeze mount with black pepper and added more salt and a hint of spicy olive oil and it made it slightly less bland. I left a lot of it however. On the positive side: the ambiance was grand, the staff was attentive enough and efficient. Prices are good. No, it's far from the best pizza in Dublin. I can name at least 3 nicer places. But I've yet to find a pizzeria here that makes "good" pizzas. read more

Additionally, it was approximately 100 degrees in the place b/c of the wood burning oven and the service was terrible. After our food was dropped, we never saw another soul until we got the check. Very Italian, I went for a dinner with my friend and we had a good time and food. I loved the antipasti, I don't. know what it's called but we had something like melted mozzarella in a thick tomato souse and aubergine, came with bread on the side. For the main course, my friend got margarita and I got Bella Roma and both were good. I would try their dessert if we had time but the place was fully booked and they offered us a table for an hour and a half which was good but still not enough. Came here for a feed before catching a film at the nearby IFI. I can see why this place gets good reviews. The ambience of the place was really nice, had an authentic Italian restaurant feel to it. Location is quite central too, though as it's not on fleet Street it's not overrun with tourists wandering in for a meal despite its temple bar location, which was good. We were able to make a reservation for two with one hours notice which was great. The food was plentiful. I ordered a pasta dish with cheese sauce and couldn't finish the dish. Service was adequate, nothing amazing, nothing bad either. Overall, the quality of food here was definitely good. It seemed like dishes were made to order so were fresh and authentic. This place is definitely authentic Italian. The proximity to IFI as well as the Olympia, button factory and other cultural venues not being too far away also makes this a good pre theatre/show option for dinner. read more

I came across this restaurant completely by chance - wandering the streets of Dublin one night looking for somewhere to go eat, a passing local took pity on us and tried to give directions. Expecting to have to point us in the direction of Trinity, he was surprised to be asked for somewhere to get pizza. He not only recommended this place as the best place for pizza in Dublin, but even rang up and got us a reservation (it was 10pm on a Saturday so we didn't expect to get food anywhere). Luckily it didn't disappoint, as we were welcomed in, and served amazing food, in a setting reminiscent of pizzerias I'd visited in Rome.
