Founded by Mike Young and John Zapp, the original Chuy's opened up in 1982 in an abandoned barbecue restaurant in Austin, Texas. Now they are 100 restaurants over 19 states. Although a little different in decor, every Chuy's has the hand painted swimming fish, the hubcap ceiling, and the shrine to Elvis which was a fixture of the original store. I had a great first Chuy's experience with my girlfriend Holly in Pembroke Pines. On a recent trip to visit my daughter in Winter Park we passed Chuy's in Lakeside Crossing and remembering how much I liked it, I suggested we dine here for dinner. In addition to the multiple dining rooms, they also have outside patio seating. We were seated in my favorite room, the dog one. If you bring in a picture of your pup you can get a free appetizer so the walls are covered with pictures of people's dogs. This room also worked out best for us because it had two TV's and we could watch the Super Bowl. We started off with their complimentary chips that come with a spicy salsa fresca and a Chuy's signature item, creamy jalapeño dressing. It started out as a dressing and it is now a dip with a following. You can even purchase it to take home with you. Two dips can never be enough so we also ordered the queso that is a beloved menu item for good reason. The menu has a number of Tex-Mex favorites like burritos, tacos, and fajitas. Chuy's is especially known for their large portions. They also make all of their own tortillas and sauces. You can customize how spicy you want your food by pepper choice and sauce. I ordered my favorite steak burrito with double rice, no beans. I replaced the spicy hatch chili sauce with the creamy deluxe tomatillo recommended by our server. It was chef's kiss. My daughter and her boyfriend said they really liked their food too and with the large portion size, ended up having leftovers to take home with them. I love the quirky decor, value, and tasty food. We were in the mood for filling meal with a casual vibe and Chuy's hit the spot.

I have such a soft spot for Chuy's, but the quality just isn't what it used to be. I miss the daily specials they used to have, as well as the nacho bar happy hour. I still enjoy coming here, but now the food is kinda average. The service is always great at this location though. I often crave the chips with creamy jalapeno dip. The atmosphere of the restaurant is really cool, and I love the eclectic decor. I pretty much always order the Guacamole Soft Tacos, and those fresh made tortillas are so yummy. The beans are also a favorite of mine. I have noticed the past few times I have visited my tacos come to the table already soggy on the bottom which isn't ideal. The tacos are still yummy though, so I won't complain too much. I still enjoy coming here, but I wish they would go back to the pre-Covid menu.

I've dined at this location a few times, and this was one of the best experiences! My friend and I were sat in the bar area, which we actually preferred. The main dining room has an awkward set up, which makes you feel like you're on display. Our waitress came over right after we sat down with chips, salads and jalapeño ranch. She took our orders and our food came out quick. I ordered the Shirley Goo, which is on the "secret" menu and it's rice, chicken and queso. Our waitress also continued to refill our chips without having to ask. Halfway into our meal, our waitress let us know the computers were down. Despite the issue and our waitress being clearly stressed, she still provided fast and great service.

I used to frequent Chuy's a lot back in my college days due to their "Big As Yo Face" Burritos being perfect for a college athlete's appetite and budget. Now as a real adult, I've decided to come back and try a few other menu items! First of all, I love that there are pictures of dogs all over the walls of the restaurant! Also, our server Marley was fantastic. She checked up on us just the right amount of time and also gave some great suggestions. Now for the food reviews. Complimentary chips, salsa and creamy green chile sauce were brought to our table. I could bathe in that creamy green chile sauce... yes it's really THAT good. My boyfriend got the Tex-Mex burrito bowl which he said was pretty average. The presentation of it was really pretty though. I got the King's Memorial Combo. It was definitely 2 meals worth for me (I love when I can take some to-go for lunch the next day). I would also say it was pretty average. The great thing about this place is that it's very cost-friendly for the amount of food you get. I'd come back for a happy hour :)

Our server, courtney, made the dining experience excellent the other night. She was very kind and personable and even split our entree into two for us. We ordered the queso, guac, and veggie enchiladas with boom boom sauce. We come here just for the boom boom sauce because it is delicious. The only thing i wish is that they had cut up the veggies in the enchiladas a lot smaller, not sure if you can request this?

Chuy's is a chain that has grown on me! My brother-in-law likes coming here so we have eaten a few times with them when we are in the mood for Tex Mex food. Their food is surprisingly good for being a chain! I usually opt for a platter because it comes with a lot of food and I like having leftovers take home. The complimentary chips and salsa also hits the spot especially with the creamy cilantro dipping sauce. I haven't tried a lot of the drinks but I can tell you my BIL loves the frozen strawberry margarita. It can get busy here but service has been great on the times we have visited. Vibe is casual and fun too. We will be back!

The steak burrito is huge and tastes amazing! Can't beat this monster of a meal!

Chuy's is so underrated! I'm a longtime customer of their food going back to when they first opened. I've eaten their close to 50 times since then and I'm just now getting around to leaving a review and I don't know why I waited so long. I love their chips! Super crispy and light. They bring out their tomato salsa and creamy jalepeno which is spicy but I love it! We always get their queso dip too which is absolutely delicious. I typically get the steak burrito or the chicken burrito which have the best flavor of any Tex Mex restaurant I've eaten at. Their salads are really good too. Also their rice and refried beans are the best I've ever had. Big portions too. I always leave full and feel like I've eaten too much but typically leave with a bag of leftovers which I eat later in the week so it's a good value for the money. I want to mention that all of their food is served on extremely hot plates which is great because the food is always served warm and fresh unlike so many other Mexican restaurants. Last but not least, we typically encounter a great experience as far as the wait staff goes. Most of the staff has been there for years so they know how to be efficient and handle your needs quickly as the meal goes on. So if you're looking for some great tasting Tex Mex food and you like a some spicy items, you really can't beat Chuy's! A+

Delicious food that came out fast and hot. Attentive service. Fun ambiance. I ordered the Mexi-Cobb salad. This makes top five salads for me. It was absolutely delicious and filled with some many good toppings. It was very filling. I also thought the creamy jalapeno ranch was the perfect dressing. Creamy and just the right amount of spicy. This is just an all-around great Tex-mex option in the area.

Not my first time here and have to say I order the panchos every time. Basically bigger nacho with cheese,beans, chicken and pico on top. Never fails, it's super filling and great to share. This time around we wanted a little something so we got the queso, now not that it was bad but it's definitely not worth almost $10. It's a more on the liquid side than thick kind of queso. Just don't see why it would be that much for what you're getting. I could've basically gotten another meal instead of that. So for sure won't be ordering that in the future. Seems like the times I've gone it's been pretty quick seating. It's busy but not to the point where they have you waiting 10-15 mins. So for the most part pretty quiet. I'm sure I'll be visiting soon

We were in Orlando visiting close family friends when we decided to step out for lunch! Anita who originally is from Texas suggested we should try out Chuy's and it's Tex-American cuisine! Coincidentally my son had also mentioned this place as it has a location in South Florida too! On arriving we were seated immediately and our server Kellee was very helpful and made us feel at ease right away. The restaurant was clean, bright and warm. The wifey ordered the cheese enchilada and steak taco combo and I ordered the combination chicken enchilada made with two different sauces. Both our meals were excellent and we really enjoyed our lunch! The complementary nachos were also a very nice touch. Fellow yelpers I would highly recommend you trying out this place if in the area and we will definitely try out the one closer to home once we get back!

Not the biggest fan of this place... it feels extremely fast foody. The chips and salsa they bring to the table are nice, and the queso was pretty good. My empanadas were ok. The watermelon drink I had was so syrupy I had to return it, but the service was good and he didn't charge me for it (I had one sip.)

Wonderful and amazing. After waiting an hour at another restaurant on a Tuesday night we called chuys! They said come on we have a table ready for your now. Arrived and table was ready for our party of 10 with chips and salsa ready! Chris was our waiter and we was attentive and catered to each of us. The food was fast and delicious. Thank you Chuys. I already lost count of how many Chuy's we've visited... but whenever we get a chance to be near one we don't think twice about stopping by. We were visiting family this weekend and on our way back home we saw this was on the way so, got there at around 11am, grabbed 2 spots at the bar area, and started with our usual salsa and creamy jalapeno sauces, with chips. The jalapeno sauce was a bit spicier than the other locations but still amazing! We also ordered the Queso which was terrific and guacamole. Being a Sunday at brunch time I was in the mood for a mimos, luckily they had sparkling wine in a can, and they gave a glass of orange juice to make it. After two of these (and his two margaritas), a refill of chips, and all the sauces gone, we ordered Enchiladas to go (too full to eat anything else but can't leave without them), and left full and happy these chain is always consistent and regardless of the location it never disappoints. read more

We made it to the winter park Chuy's finally. We have been to just about all the other in Orlando, so why not make it to the Winter Park one. We walked in last Saturday about noon. It wasn't packed at all, and we were able to grab a couple spots at the bar. it had all the usual things of a Chuy's, brightly colored walls, random dog photos, flying fish on the ceiling, and Lucha Libre paintings. It always feels homey. we grabbed some chips and dips and guacamole right off the bat. Everything was great, from the salsa to the guac. I got a New Mexican martini to sip along with our chips. The infused with green-chili drink was nice, not too spicy as with most green chili items. The jalapeño stuffed olives put it over the top with heat. It didn't need up but it added some flair to the drink. We just stayed for the chips and a couple drinks(and took enchiladas to go), but its a great spot. I would stop in again if in the neighborhood. read more

Every time we've come here, we are immediately seated and the servers are always so attentive. We stopped by for a quick lunch and got the Panchos with grilled chicken. If you split them between two people, it's enough to fill you both up because it's a gigantic portion. They're always perfectly cheesy, perfectly grilled, and nicely seasoned. Absolutely love the Panchos! We also always inhale the chips and dips they bring out prior to your appetizers/entrees. The chips were warm and had just the right amount of salt, which is always appreciated. Speaking of dips, however, we ordered the queso for the first time and we were really disappointed. Although I forgot to take a picture of it, the portion size was laughable. And for $10? An absolute ripoff. Regardless of the flavor or quality of the cheese, it was such a small portion of queso that it was completely not worth it. Even though I knew it was $10 because the menu shows it, I was expecting a much bigger portion. So, if you want a bang for your buck, avoid the queso. read more

Such a great experience. The service was friendly and efficient, once we were seated. A reminder that most places are still dealing with lack of workers. But the chips were freshly homemade, thin and crispy with just the right amount of salt. Salsa was good, not great. But that didn't stop us from enjoying it. The fajitas were some of the best we've ever had--and this is a regular favorite of ours. The chicken was juicy and came sizzling with onions, green and red bell peppers. We loved that they included shredded cheese in the toppings. We sat on the patio that looks like it would be a fun place for an evening meal. Colorful market lights are hung from the ceiling. Plenty of parking in the back. I had a regular margarita and at $8.50 I felt it was small. But it was delicious! read more

Dear god. We drive past this place so often and always wonder what it's like. Well now we know. We should've stayed wondering. I love tex mex. I don't know how you mess it up. The food was good! We were seated and served almost immediately. The server was fast and polite. A quick trip with the whole family and would come back again if we were around. Taco salad- chopped into small pieces and had a nice vinaigrette dressing on it Chicken flautas- moist chicken inside the flautas made for a crunchy outside and a soft inside. Great bite! I wish they gave a little of that sauce on the side so I could pour it on them myself. My sauce seemed like it was sitting in there a while. Free chips and salsa!! Always a win! And the kids burrito was a nice size for my 5 year old. I know it's a chain but I wished they had a more authentic vibe inside. Everything was just okay, I feel like I expected more because I typically hear good things about this restaurant. I love queso but I didn't like theirs, it was giving me the same taste as the cheap nachos with the thick yellow cheese. Their chips and salsa were good, their tacos and burritos were pretty good. This was my first time at chuy's and I must say I'm very shocked ! The food is amazing ! I love the chips and salsa you get when you first sit down ! I just recently went to a Mexican restaurant and wasn't a fan of the salsa... this place is my new go to ! Because the shrimp tacos I had WAS DELIGHTFUL! And I don't like cabbage on my tacos but for some reason everything on that shrimp taco went great together ! The steak tacos were good as well BUT I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE SHRIMP ! read more

Besides being a extremely good Mex-Tex restaurant, the quality and service is consistent. But this last time they simply went beyond! I inadvertently left my wallet there (with credit cards, drivers license and cash). I didn't realize it until the manager, Chanell Haid, called me the next day to let me know that they had found my wallet. When I picked it up, all the cars in cash was there! Incredible! Met a friend for lunch here. I found it pretty disappointing. I ordered a quesadilla with fajita chicken inside. My friend ordered the chicken tacos. Everything was just very "meh" to me. They do give you complimentary chips with salsa and a spicy creamy sauce. The quesadilla dish was generous with 4 pretty large quesadillas. But it just felt bland. Our server was nice, but not very attentive. It wasn't busy, but he took a long time to check for refills. I don't think I'll rush to be back. read more

We've been wanting to try this place for a while and finally had the opportunity after an awesome show at the Orlando Family Stage (another place that gets a 5-star review). The atmosphere is really interesting and if you have time, I suggest giving the decor a detailed look-over. The food was good, our server was great, and overall it was a good experience. Came to Chuys for lunch on Thursday, we opted to seat outside and requested the table be cleaned as they were visibly dirty, the young lady hosting rudely wiped off part of the table and acted as if we were wrong in our request. Thankfully that was the worst part of our experience. The highlight was the superior service recieved from Jill! She was amazing. We thoroughly enjoyed the chips and salsa and jalapeño dip. I ordered the chuychanga, and others got Nachos and enchiladas. Don't forget to try the boom boom sauce which is amazing with a lil kick. The margaritas were fantastic. Chewy is solid, but ever since the pandemic and slimming down the menu we don't go as often. The chili Rayos and a couple of the other items that have disappeared were a major reason we went because they were so good. They're still Chicka Chicka boom boom the homemade chips and the queso. Hopefully since they have been bought out, they may expand the old menu. read more

Great food! Amazing service! The Best Southwest Mexican food! - it originated in Austin Texas. I Love the complimentary chips salsa and creamy jalapeño dip. I am a vegetarian and I am happy that there are many options and they are clearly marked on the menu. The homemade flour and corn tortillas are delicious and make this place A MUST try. Honestly, I do not see what the appeal is about this restaurant. I know it's popular and this might be an unpopular common, but I find the food inferior. Service is okay and the atmosphere is kind of cool oh, but the food is just weak. There are far better options for Mexican and/or Tex-Mex in Orlando and I would recommend seeking one of them out rather than coming here. read more

I enjoy going here for lunch because they typically have some great specials. Their white sauce is to die for and I wish I'd bring a gallon home with me when I leave. They do have some great margaritas too and their Tuesday nights are always lively. read more

We have eaten regularly at the Chuy's in Bethesda MD when up there on business. We were happy to see one in Orlando. The atmosphere was just like the one we are familiar with up North. The place was busy so we chose the patio sense it was mild out for August due to showers. Even though the patio was not crowded (~50%) the service is a little slow due to the kitchen being on the opposite side of the building But the service was good. Had a great time time eating here. Definitely one of the best Mexican Restaurants around. The chips and salsa were good. The salsa does have a kick to it so make sure you have a drink when you try it. The steak is tender and a good portion is given. The flour tortillas taste homemade and are actually the best tortillas I have ever head in any Mexican Restaurant. They are super soft and tasty. The rice and refried beans were delicious as well. The fajita toppings are fresh and ample. The atmosphere is very chill and inviting. Love the 80s music playing in the background at this location. It is a great family restaurant. This is a fun new restaurant in the Winter Park area. I had tried it in various states including the original in Austin, Tx. Food is really good. They make their own tortillas. I rank Mexican restaurants based on their Chile Rellenos, if they have it in the menu. Got to say, it was really good. I also customized the enchilada that came in the combo platter I ordered, instead of the typical red sauce, I switched to a tomatillo based. The dish overall was delicious. They offer happy hour but I didn't take advantage of it. I would love to go back and try other Tex-Mex dishes. read more

First and last visit for is. We usually take home left over portions. Not this time. For the hype, This is probably the most unauthentic Mexican food we've had. The flautas were made with canned chicken the Rice has a packaged "Lipton" flavor, the guacamole came in a bowl as usual, but on a bed of lettuce and for $9 it was as if they were attempting to make it a full portion and it ended up mixing in with the lettuce and we were done without being done, Also made with a hint of flavorless that left us wondering. Kids chicken fingers were tough so our child did not even eat along with the rice and beans. Very good food!! The pico is delicious! It's been a long time since I had a sauce served with chips that had a bite to it. The bartender John was such a good bartender as well as a server!! He was all over the place with quite a few tables, extremely busy but very attentive. I had one problem and that as I'm watching him RUN all over the place I saw servers standing around, one was looking at her phone in a room off the bar. I don't know why he didn't ask for help he definitely needed but he did a good job anyway but I noticed a table outside that he had that had to get up a couple of times to ask him for something. I am all about customer service and it's always nice to have that camaraderie with your fellow teammates where they notice prebussing, refills, and the like, those little things that make all the difference. Why is it so hard to take care of the customer? Simple request: We are in freaking Florida! It's freezing in this place. So I asked to open up the patio as did the customers sitting next to me. Came here for a birthday party. There was only five of us, because of coronavirus. It was a Monday, so we did not need a reservation. We were seated at a round table, near the tortilla station. All staff were wearing masks and you have to wear a mask to get inside. Once seated, you can remove it. Our server was around to check on us, but I honestly had to call him over a couple times. It wasn't even a busy night. I had two happy hour drinks- the House Rita followed by The Original Texas Tini. I wish they would've given us separate chips and salsa so we didn't have to share with the entire group. For that reason, I did not indulge. The menu is limited during coronavirus. I opted for the healthiest entree - the fajitas. One of the other gals ordered the same. When our meals came out, we were definitely into them. It was awhile before I had to ask about the freshly made tortillas - where are they? Why were they not served with my dinner??? When we asked for our checks, he went around and asked what we had. I reminded him I had the mixed fajitas and two happy hour drinks. When my check came- he did not honor the happy hour price. So I flagged him and asked him to change it. Honestly, it's a simple mistake but come on. It's your job to get it right and it's a Monday. You have two tables. Very disappointed with the service. Always a good TexMex meal which is hard to find on Orlando. Look forward to August every year when they have their Hatch Chili specials. My favorite. Their jalapeño cream dip is addictive as are their supper thin chips. Which they happily refill. My usual dish is a build your own chicken enchilada with TexMex sauce. Great tex mex restaurant. They serve you so much food! It's enough to share with someone, depending on what entree you get, or good for some left overs. The steak tacos al carbon were super scrumptious. I loaded my tacos with the guac, sour cream, cheese, rice and beans that came on the plate. The burrito is a plate I recommend to share. There was a bit of heat in the burrito. I would call it like natural heat from the spices they use in the meat that was inside. Overall good experience. I loved the wacky decor they had. My advice is "go somewhere else." Food took 40 mins to come out and was not good at all. My son's burger had a piece of plastic packaging cooked into it. We asked them to make him another burger but I was surprised a manager didn't stop by to address it at all. The tables all around us sat with dishes on them during our entire hour+ meal. They are clearly understaffed. I can't imagine this location will remain open; I won't be sad to see it go. Terrible experience. read more

Taking photos for us and even grabbing the restaurants polaroid camera so we could have a keepsake! The food was incredible, we loved every dish we had! The key lime pie was a table favorite!!! The ONLY issue we had was the bar that we were seated right next to was very loud and made conversations difficult to hear. Which for a birthday dinner wasn't the best but we understood that it's the luck of the draw. We will definitely be back and have already recommended the Chapman to many friends!! My twin, adult daughters wanted to go to Chuy's in Maitland for their 34th birthdays. We arrived at about 5:20pm and the hostess informed us that she had just started a wait list. One daughter asked how long the wait would be. The hostess said about 10-15 minutes for a table of 8. There were empty tables around the restaurant! We said OK took the buzzer and went outside with 3 small grandchildren ages 3 - 5. After 30 minutes I went in to see what the delay was. The hostess said there was only one table that would seat 8 and a party of 6 was at the table. The same party of 6 was at the table when we arrived. The hostess said that they had paid but were just chatting. After 45 minutes I went back in and spoke with the manager. I asked why he could not put two other empty tables together. The manager refused and stated that was the only table for 8 in the restaurant. After 55 minutes the party of 6 finally stood up to leave. The manager moved one of the 3 tables that had been pushed together for them. So, the table for 8 was actually a table for 12-14. My daughter reminded the manager that our group of 8 had been there a couple of months ago and two other tables in a different location in the restaurant had been arranged for us. The manager insisted that we had to be seated there or nowhere! The hour wait spoiled the occasion for us! Our grandchildren had grown tired and grumpy along with their grandparents. This place was awful! They told my family it would be a 15 min wait to eat but we waited over 45mins then they said they were getting our table ready and it would be 5 mins and ended up being another 20. Then it got worse, the food is awful. My steak was burnt to hell on one side and horribly seasoned. My cheese was wet like had water dripping from it and the rice tasted like it was cooked in a microwave. But I can't forget about the worst part of all... the decor. The theme of this restaurant is bizarre. One room has metal fish hanging from a room while another is filled with chandeliers and another with airplanes. It looks like the circus threw up on the wall. I can't forget to mention the man walking around making balloon animal either. They feel like they're more concerned with selling their tacky t shirts than making food. If I had the choice to eat my hand or another meal from this place I would choose my hand without hesitation. Stopped by Chuy's Tex-Mex for a quick bite before the Disrupt HR event, and it was a mixed experience. It was my first time there, and I was impressed by the chips and salsa--they were very good. The service was also solid, which is always appreciated. However, the cheese quesadillas were a letdown; they tasted like simple cheese slices on tortillas, lacking the flavor I was hoping for. The rice and beans were decent, but nothing to write home about. Notably, the price for kids was $8, which seemed reasonable for the portion size. Went to chuys tonight and had Blake as my server best server I have had in my 55 years of life. Attentive, hilarious, nice, quick and great recommendations! My husband had the chick-chicka boom boom and I had chicken enchiladas with the deluxe tomatillo, food was amazing! 100% would recommend this place to anyone who likes food! read more
