My wife and I chose A Sunday lunch to eat at Cocina 214 and made reservations through Resy. We were greeted, and then seated immediately with our choice of a booth. Plenty of seating was available on what appeared to be a modest crowd. Our serving team consisted of the main server, the beverages and apps sever, and the manager who served the main dishes all arrived a welcome intervals. They all were professional and kind. We never felt forgotten. We received (unexpectedly) complimentary chips and salsa. Somehow I missed it on the menu. The chips were crispy and fresh, and the salsa had a nice kick. But, I wouldn't have ordered it as a side. I did order "The 214 Ceviche" as my app and happily devoured it all myself. The lime juice serrano pepper cured Red Snapper was very fresh, and I especially enjoyed it complimented by red onion, avocado and cilantro. So fresh! We chose Taco dishes for our main courses. The Very Veggie vegan tacos hit the taste buds with full flavor. Black beans, sautéed veggies, and the citrus dressing sparkled. My wife and I both enjoyed these more than the Street Tacos with steak. Although marinated, I found the meat cooked rightly but flavorless. The small dish of fire-roasted salsa added flavor, but the small amount ran out quickly with three tacos. The rest: Free parking can be found, especially if you don't mind walking. We parked in the lot next to the train station. Brunch is offered on Saturdays and Sundays, and include $4 Mimosas with an entree purchase. Margaritas by the dozens, mocktails, wine, cervezas, and specialty drinks are served. Desserts include Flan, Tres Leches, and Churros. My wife and I would definitely return here for the Very Veggie Tacos, and I'd love to enjoy The 214 Ceviche again! read more

Stopped by Cocina 214 in Winter Park on a Saturday, and honestly... you can't go wrong with margaritas and chips & queso to kick off the weekend. The margaritas were refreshing, the queso hit the spot, and the vibe was perfect for a laid-back Saturday outing. I ordered the three taco plate and it did not disappoint -- super flavorful and very satisfying. Everything tasted fresh and well-seasoned. Pro tip: go on Sunday! Margarita pitchers are only $25, which is such a great deal. Definitely a spot I'd come back to for good food, good drinks, and good energy. read more

Went for lunch and enjoyed the steak tacos as well as the skinny 214 drink. The beverage was the highlight for me honestly, I enjoyed the tacos but they were not the best--I found the portion sizes of all the items pretty small for the prices of the menu. This is to be expected in Winter Park though, and the presentation was nice. I recommend the trio as an appetizer for variety. The servers were attentive and came by often to refill waters which I like. I think it's best to visit for a happy hour or an event here. read more

I hadn't stopped in to Cocina in quite some time and I am glad I did today. We had the street corn, ceviche and a beef quesadilla. Everything was delicious. The ceviche was amazing! All the flavors came together perfectly. I appreciate a quesadilla with more than just meat and cheese and this one delivered. We sat at the bar and the service was perfect. We were checked on regularly and they had great recommendations. The restaurant itself is clean and pretty... all that you would expect from a Winter Park spot. Also I have to say that I used to consider Cocina a bit pricey for Mexican food but their prices have not increased much and are on par with places that are nowhere near the same quality or dining experience now. It had been nearly 2 years since I dined at Cocina 214, so my husband and I decided to go back together. We made reservations well in advance for 6pm on a Friday night. Before entering, an older gentleman warned us that it was very loud inside. We didn't think much of it, but boy was he right. It was a mess inside. Parties of young children ages elementary to high school all over the place. We got stuck next to the table of middle school boys who were squealing and chanting. This was after waiting about 10 minutes for someone to seat us. Once at our table, 15 minutes passed by and nobody had even been by to take our drink order. My husband found someone to help us because it was getting ridiculous. A man took our order and helped us for the evening even though he wasn't serving in that area. The chip and dip trio was good. The guacamole very tasty. I ordered the 007 without beans and had a very small portion. The rice amount probably to half a cup or less. It was also supposed to be vegetable rice but you can see in the photos only about 3 pieces the size of my fingernail were present. I was disappointed. My husband enjoyed his chicken burrito though. We were never checked on while eating. After eating, we waited 15-20 minutes for our check and had to end up finding someone to give it to us. While it was crazy inside, the restaurant still had many tables open. It appeared they were short staffed because even with the large parties, there was no excuse for us to be forgotten. Needed a last minute dinner and popped in to Cocina 214! I hadn't been in about 10 years but was surprised to find that their carnitas tacos were still just as good as remembered! We also got an order of the Happy Hour nachos with chorizo, which were very flavorful but would have been lacking without the meat. Service was ok. When we walked in, there was no host at the door and no one even notified us walk in, so we just chose a seat at random. We went there hour ago. The waiter was horrible. It took forever to get stuff. Heaven forbid if I asked him something. We always tip nicely and we didn't tip. Not happy one bit. I should asked for a manager but I just thought I'm not coming back what difference would it had made. It was wasn't even packed. Maybe 5 families were in there. I love that it's located in the heart of winter park, so I can grab a bite and then enjoy Park Ave. Inside was spacious and calm. The restaurant decor was nice enough. Nothing to get excited about. Our server was barely cordial. At one point I asked for a Diet Coke and asked him if it was actual Diet Coke or Diet Pepsi (I like Diet Coke with lime but I do not like lime in my Diet Pepsi) and he just barked out "it's Diet!" TaKo Cheena, Black Rooster Taqueria, and Quesa Loca offer better-tasting tacos for less. I normally don't like to mention other restaurants in a review yet it's an important consideration for this category of food that already has strong competition in Winter Park. Service: 1/5 Cocina 214 requires a 20% tip for pickup orders. The problem I have with this requirement is that the service we received was lacking. Though we chose curbside pickup, upon arriving at the restaurant, there was literally no curbside parking available. Fortunately, my partner dropped me off and circled around as I stepped in to pickup the order. Upon entry, there was no one at reception. When a server noticed me, they confirmed my pickup order and left. 5 minutes later, I was asked to walk towards a special area for pickup, where another staff was bagging what seemed to be my orders. Another 7 minutes passed before the order was ready.We ended up waiting inside almost 15 minutes past the promised pickup time, which was not during a lunch or dinner rush. Tell me, is that worth a 20% service charge for a takeout order? Taste: 1/5 The street tacos are nothing to write home about. This would be a 2 or 3 out of 5 if it weren't for a dessert they gave us that clearly went bad. The flan was inedible- it smelled obscene and hours later we regretted tasting it. tl;dr This is one of the worse dining experiences (albeit takeout) we've had in the 32789 zip code. Located in the heart of winter park is this gem of a restaurant. I've been many times and haven't had a bad meal or service. The restaurant has plenty of seats both inside and on the patio. The service is always top notch as is the food. If there was a complaint it would be paying for chips and salsa. So I usually skip getting it at this restaurant. read more

My friends and I came here for Cinco de Mayo since they were having drink specials. It's a really cute looking restaurant (especially the outside seating area). We started off with the Queso Fundido with chorizo and nachos. The Queso Fundido was probably the best thing we had during our whole experience. Nachos were average. Our dinner came out and I could tell we were all visibly disappointed (I didn't snap pics of our dinner). One of our group ordered some veggie tacos. They were extremely soggy. I ordered some Mexican flag brisket enchiladas. They were COVERED in way too much lettuce for being $18. I think I would've paid $12 but $18 was def too much money for what I got. Another friend in the group ordered the carne asada, and he was disappointed with it (wasn't seared properly for being $30+). We waited longer for our server to pick up our check and payment so we could leave than we did for our food to get to our table after we ordered. Overall, it was a very mid experience. The food was just acceptable, not at all anything to rave about. The stunning thing is how poorly trained the servers are. TWICE I had to leave the table to repeat simple requests. Some hot sauce? Never came. Our drink order? Had to ask twice. We got our meals delivered by someone else and she never came over afterwards. First and probably last visit. Food was good, but service was awful. I ordered a chicken burrito. It was great, I'd definitely have it again. The problem was service. Food took way too long, even though the place was at half capacity. Our waitress was extremely unattentive of us. She took our order when we sat down, but disappeared until our food arrived. We were never offered drinks or appetizers. When our entrees arrived, she disappeared again for 10+ minutes. They got my wife's order wrong, so because our waitress would just vanish, we didn't know who to tell. They also have the gall to charge $4 for chips and salsa. We've been to much higher end mexican places and in the vast majority of cases they have complimentary chips and salsa. However, if you're gonna charge for them, they better be out of this world. Unfortunately, they were extremely underwhelming, so I would not pay for them again. For the price, there are much better options in the area if you want mexican fare. read more

Hidden Gem two blocks off Park. We made reservations but to be honest we did not need them. Big props for having outdoor seating and being dog friendly. My son has been coming here all year. He said the queso was really good. It was. He got a chicken quesadilla and it was good. The chicken burrito comes with ranchero but they switched to verde for my wife no issue. I had their "melt in your mouth brisket" tacos. They were pretty good too. Not filled the same but tasty none the less. I was a little worried to honest after five minutes of sitting no server. BE AWARE! They sock you for 20% "Gratuity" on every take-out order (called in or website ordered). Our order totaled $161 and was charged $32 for gratuity for loading a bag with food and taking my money. The food was good, not great and a couple items were missing. No table service, no endless chips & salsa (you have to pay for that with to-go orders, what?)...just a bag of food in plastic containers. There's no notification when ordering of the gratuity (btw...its not a gratuity if its mandatory...it's a Service Charge!). To be clear...I most likely would have left a reasonable gratuity for the efforts made compiling my order, but a mandatory fee equal to table service gratuity is inexcusable and shameful. Pay your staff accordingly and leave gratuity determination to the guests. Our meal was for 8 people who won't be returning. read more

This was a cool place. I had always wanted to check it out, but had not really had any reason to do so. Its seated in Winter Park, just off of Park Avenue. Parking is always. (I mean ALWAYS) a challenge in the Park Avenue area, but one you located a spot, its a great place to walk around. We were hungry for lunch after some walking around at the art festival and stopped in this place. Given there were so many people roaming around the rat festival,, this place was surprisingly not busy. We were seated right away. Service was not necessarily quick, but it was also not unreasonable. I ordered enchiladas and my wife ordered the spinach and mushroom quesadillas. They were both tasty. The enchiladas had plenty of topping and tasted great. I also tasted the quesadillas and they were arguably the better dish - I would recommend give IG this a try ! Overall the experience was great - with the possible exception of the obnoxious people that we were sat next to - I can;t blame the restaurant for that - however, there was plenty of open seating available and I am a little baffled why we were sat elbow/elbow with another family....in and of itself it would have been fine, but this particular family was pretty obnoxiously......again, it did not take away from the meal itself, but it happened to be part of that day;s experience. Consistent & tasty. I've come here a few times and their food is very consistent with portions, taste, etc. I enjoy their queso and tried the Nacho Macho during happy hour and it was the perfect portion and filled me up for 8 hours! Their happy hour (4-6:30PM) is a great deal. The service is always a little bit slow but it's never bothered me because it's a great restaurant to enjoy and spend a few hours sipping drinks and snacking. Though, I cannot attest to the full menu, as this was my first occasion going, but I really enjoyed my Street Tacos (Chicken). My friend had the Melt-In-Your-Mouth Brisket Tacos and Cocina Trio & Chips - which she enjoyed as well. The drinks, were pretty delicious as well. Our family really wanted to like this place. I love how this place is built & designed. The decorations outside and inside is really cool. This place would be great for parties, baby showers, it spacious for all kinds of event BUT the food was lacking & the drinks tasted like it was the bartender first day. My husband order a vodka sprite with a splash of cranberry. He got sprite, cranberry & a splash of vodka. The other family members alcohol drinks tasted like plain watery drinks which were disappointing since these drinks prices are up their. I recently attended a luncheon where food was brought in from Cocina 214. The chips were fresh and the salsas (there were many!) were very flavorful. The Pico was the best for me! The guac was very good, too. The chicken and the brisket quesadillas were delicious! The chicken fajita meat was tender and spiced perfectly. The Mexican rice and refried beans were soo good!
