After walking around The Shops at La Cantera (Of course I had to stop by Nordy's!) we stopped by Chuy's for lunch. This restaurant is located in a car dependent area of San Antonio but that's ok since gas is more affordable in Texas. It's about $6+ a gallon around Seattle and Sea-Tac Airport right now. Our server had good energy and they were welcoming, friendly, and attentive. I really liked the fun vibe of the restaurant and the Tex-Mex food was high quality. The portion size was pretty good for the price and drinks were on point as well. I was happy to see the total bill. The price of food and drinks was half of what I'm accustomed to. It wasn't even happy hour! I know the cost of living is different in Texas but it was a really nice surprise. Now I know why people are moving to this state. read more

After ordering take out for pick up and delivery in the past week. The food overall is good but the service really sucks at the this location. When you walk in there isnt a hostess there to greet you so youre looking for someone to help you. When you do find the hostess she either stand there or duck down behind podium to be on her phone which i found very tacky. I waited almost 30mins for chips and queso and had to ask when will it be ready and responded theyre still working on it and theres other orders before you walked in to place yours. There were other people that came to check on take orders because it was taking long. I love vintage kitsch!!! So of course I love the ambiance and decor of Chuy's! My kids were taking pictures in front of everything. And as a huge Elvis fan, I appreciate the Elvis shrine in the lobby. But enough of the decor, on to the food. We had great service, chips and salsa came out almost instantly and our server was prompt with our drinks and food. The kids loved their quesadillas. I had the chicka chicka boom boom enchiladas and they were tasty and hot! My mojito was fresh and tasty, it really hit the spot! Let's start with the pros. I LOVE Chuy's. On family vacation, decided to have dinner at Chuy's. There was no wait. Food came out nice and hot. Everyone at the table were enjoying their food. At one point I said I was happy that we chose to eat at Chuy's. Mind you we had not eaten all day. Ordered the Pancho's and 4 pancho's in I saw something out of the corner of my eye crawling on my food. There was a bug that had sour cream all over it crawling in my plate. I was totally grossed out, covered it with my napkin, it crawled up on top of my napkin. I notified the waitress. She apologized, took the plate to show it to her manager. Manager apologized and attempted to give an explanation as to what May have happened. Stated he would comp my meal, there were 6 of us at the table. No one wanted their food after the bug situation. Manager ended up comping the entire meal. Asked that we give the location a second chance but we are from out of town so that will not be happening. They did say it could take a Little longer because it's fish. I was fine with that thinking that it was going to be fresh which is always worth the wait. It wasn't very busy when I visited. But whatever... What isnt acceptable is the quality of the food that I did receive. First off my rice and beans were in the same container all smashed together. Then I open my fish taco and it's soggy,There's very little cabbage, way too much sauce, the fish is off and taste disgusting and it's a very much over seasoned salty. We parked in a designated curbside spot and called the phone number listed on the sign to let the staff know we had arrived. Due to the pandemic, this is the first time I have actually eaten at Chuy's (outdoor dining for safety). We had takeout before. The food is well seasoned and delicious. I had the Chuychanga and it was really good. Even the tortillas brought to the table were warm, fresh, and crisp. I will say that they are very understaffed however, our waiter did a great job under the circumstances. Even the kid's menu had a nice selection and my 1 year old loved it. First of all, it's important to say that authentic Tex-Mex isn't Chuy's! It never has been. It's a good marketing statement, but the company cant back it up. And the company has been sold to Olive Garden so you can expect even less than authentic food. I ate at the IH-10 and 1604 location in San Antonio for lunch today. Their food depending on what you order can be good and the cheese Chile Relleno that I had today was good. The refried beans tasted like canned, but the rice was okay. They have a lot of different sauces you can pick from and I think that is a plus for many people. My wife had the cheese enchiladas with their famous Tex-Mex gravy and she said it wasn't very good, especially the gravy. Service was fine, ambiance a selling point for many, but people come back for the food so this is where they need to concentrate their efforts.
