Love this place! We stop here whenever we get the chance. Before it came to Cincinnati, we even made the trip to the one in Florence. The atmosphere will catch you right away. It's crazy and overwhelming. There are things hanging from the walls and ceilings, different themes in every room, and tile of every pattern and color. It makes the experience unique and fun- you won't get bored checking out the place while you're waiting for your food. When you first are seated, they will grace you with chips and salsa, but WAIT! You need to request their Creamy Jalapeño sauce for your chips. We never even make it to the salsa because we love it so much. It's sort of like a ranch dressing, but runny and with a punch of flavor. I've tried a lot of the meals on the menu, but I always go back to the Chuychanga. Come with an appetite and someone to split it with, and it will be so worth it. I always leave so stuffed because I finish it every time. It's like a chimichanga, but very crispy, and filled with large shreds of fresh chicken breast. Many people don't know this, but Chuy's actually doesn't have any freezers- so you know it will be fresh every time. The only problem we have ever had is that one night they charged us for a $10 quesadilla that we didn't order. We didn't notice until the next morning. Upon telling them what happened, they immediately gave us a certificate for a complimentary meal and we were back the next week to redeem it. They're amazing! read more

our first experience here was take out as we live two blocks from this location. Food is very average, the enchilada bland at best and the taco very small. rice was hard and dry, the refried beans more of a bland runny paste. Chips were ok, Salsa very spicy but lacking taste. Went in at 9 pm on Saturday night and sat at the bar. Watched one bartender take down a bar station right in front of me. She never once acknowledged me nor did she bother to look up and say I'll be right with you. She did notice the guy next to me needed a napkin. The other bartender focused on the service bar and stopped next to me to empty out some ice tea pitchers but he didn't ask me if I needed anything. I will keep this short because otherwise it will turn into a long rant. The decor and atmosphere are tacky. The silverware came in an envelope that said "sanitized," but there was dried food stuck to my fork. I ordered the comida deluxe, which was bland in texture and flavor, and covered in sauce. I boxed my whole plate (ie-leftovers) and ended up throwing it away later as it was so unappealing. This place is worse than Chi-Chis used to be (well, apparently Chi-Chis is still operating in Kuwait). My suggestion to Chuy's would be stop concentrating so much on decor and focus on food. A restaurant with good food does not need gimmicks. To be fair, I have only been to Chuy's Kenwood (Cincinnati). I was skeptical at first just for the fact it is a chain-type place. That concern went away quickly when I discovered their chile. It really is the only place around that offers fairly authentic green chile. Overall the food is pretty decent, but it is the green chile that will keep me coming back. Fresh, hot, delicious. The food is affordable, drinks are not as cheap as other mex restaurants, but the difference in quality makes them well worth the slightly higher price. I love chili rellenos and their are delicious. They aren't poblano peppers though, so if you're a purist, beware. They will make special requests (like shrimp enchiladas) if they are able. The manager told me they make everything every day. The freezer is for ice cream and french fries for the kids meals. I am from South Texas and love Mexican and Tex Mex Food. When in Austin, TX, Chuy's was always my first choice in Tex Mex. They make the BEST Chili Relleno--just like my grandma makes! I ate at the Cincy location and it is just as good as their food at the original Austin, TX location--I am so excited that they are opening a location closer to me in Dayton (Austin's Landing). FINALLY, a truly authentic Tex Mex restaurant that doesn't pour all that nasty white canned cheese sauce all over their dishes, use fresh made salsa, fresh lime in their margarita's, fresh homemade tortillas--hmmm this restaurant is awesome! read more

We went on a Sunday night to celebrate my birthday and the staff knew it was my birthday but the waiter barely even spoke three words the whole night other then to ask what we waned to eat. This place is as fantastic as they get! We have been here many times and each time the service and food are consistently 5 stars! First off, any place that gives you homemade fresh tortilla chips and salsa can't be half bad! Bonus - always get the jalapeno white sauce, it will change your life in a good way! The chips are a vehicle to get the most sauce in my mouth as I can, that's all there is to say about that. If you can - go any weekday from 5-7pm for their free nacho bar! Yes, it's a franchise but --- it's far better than any other franchise I've been to! I love their jalapeno ranch, tortillas, nacho bar, and chips! We have been to this restaurant several times and it's nice because our 4 year old is entertained the whole time with free dough balls to play with like play-doh. Went with a co-worker for lunch. We both work close to this location. When you have an hour for lunch, going to a Mexican restaurant allows you plenty of time. Not in this case. I have mixed feelings about yesterday's meal at Chuy's (happy hour at the bar). The food was GREAT as usual; I love the chili relleno. Good price, good sides, good all round. But I have biases about bartenders, and yesterday's bartender did not enhance our meal at all. A good bartender is part of the experience of eating out, esp if you are sitting at the bar. The last time we were at this Chuy's location, the bartender was clearly loving his job and loving being a bartender. He engaged with the customers, and we thought that his manner really enhanced our meal. Yesterday, the bartender was very efficient at cleaning the bar, making drinks and taking orders. But she had nothing to say or do with the customers that was not absolutely necessary. No smile, no greeting, no thank you. Nothing. Perhaps in these times a restaurant manager is just happy to get a bartender who is efficient, but a bartender can make or break an experience for bar customers and getting a bartender who is 'dead' to customers just doesn't make sense in the long term. read more

Chuy's used to be our favorite go-to for Mexican carry out. We would carry out once every other week. 8 times out of ten our order would be wrong. We live at least 15-20 minutes away, so the first few times we just decided to not go back and just throw in a frozen pizza instead. Ridiculous! Then we started checking but shame on us for not pulling every single thing out of the bag and unwrapping things. One time my husband's burrito did not have the correct filling. One time I received fried shrimp tacos instead of grilled. On this occasion I drove back up there. I called on my way out the door to let them know the problem so they could have the correct food ready. I was still on hold when I got there. I had been told three separate times that the manager was busy but would get to me. I stood in the lobby, still on hold, and asked for the manager. I still had to wait! These things are so wrong. Again, shame on us for continuing to come back BUT the food, when done correctly, is good. Well, tonight I missed counting the sauces we ordered and we got home only to find we did not get a sauce that we were charged $5 for. So, we're done. Good luck to you if you carry out. read more

I've been to Chuy's in Austin, and this place just isn't up to the same standard. While parking isn't sufficient, it's not a deal breaker. The restaurant was crowded when we went, and we were told to expect a 30-35 min wait for our party of 5. Perfect opportunity to order a margarita and eat some chips and salsa. Only it was The. Worst. Margarita. in Cincinnati. It's best described as water with a hint of margarita flavoring in a glass packed with ice. It was almost clear. For the first time in my life, I sent a drink back. The waitress came back with what I would swear was the same drink, but with a wedge of lime squeezed into it. So now it tasted like dirty, ice cold water with a hint of lime. Another man waiting in the same area joked that his daughter could go ahead and drink his, as there wasn't any actual alcohol in it. Even at happy hour prices, it was a rip off. Chips and salsa were yummy, at least. After waiting over 45 minutes, my daughter checked at the front stand to see why it was taking so long and within minutes we were seated. Our waiter was clearly inexperienced, and didn't even offer us choices of rice or bean types. When our food came, the waitresses that brought it weren't even able to identify each dish. If that margarita I'd sipped earlier had had some actual tequila in it, I might have overlooked the poor training of the servers. No one in our family was really impressed with their food. The burritos tasted like microwaved frozen burritos, and there was an off/artificial taste in some of the sauces. The Mexican rice was extremely dry and chewy. Refried beans were good, but no different than just heating up a can of Rosarita. I think the kids were mad at me for not letting them pig out on chips and salsa while we waited to be seated, as that was the best thing we ate all night. We won't be back. There are much better choices for Mexican food in the area including Maya's and El Jinete among others. read more

First time here and we were not very impressed. We were seated quickly (thankfully) but it was over an hour and a half before we were done with our lunch. The salsa was extremely spicy and there was no warning. My two year old grabbed a chip and took a bite. Instant tears. When I asked if they had a mild salsa the server said no and that this one was more spicy than normal. He couldn't have said something ahead of time? It was almost an hour for our food to come to us. My office and I received food poisoning from this location catered. Everyone that ate the chicken was sick that night following into the next day. Multiple people commented that they did notice the chicken was pinkish. I called to file a complaint, the manager filled out a form, offered free meal vouchers and a "your welcome" at the end of the conversation when I said thank you. He should be thanking me for calling in to help others not get sick. And why would I want free meal tickets? Myself and others will never eat here again. This was the worst experience I have ever had at chuys!!! The server was the worst. He took our food and drink order. Then came back with plates for the fajitas. Then later came back with the drinks after we had to ask him for them. He was not attentive at all. He kept going outside to smoke. When we would ask for a drink refill or tortillas, we had to wait 5-10 minutes for them because he would lose track of what he was doing or go help someone else. It take almost a half hour to get there but we try to go as much as we can. Best Tex Mex in the City because everything is fresh. The tortillas chips light and crispy, the guac is fresh, mushed up avocado without nasty mayonnaise filling up the bowl. I was just going to just chalk it up to yet another below average Tex-Mex, but talked to my son who has eaten in the Austin original a couple times and loved it. He's quite critical, so it must be good. It took longer for our order to come out than it did for us to get a table (around 30 minutes). And my wife's order came out cold. Chicken was bland, tortillas tough. We talked to the manager, and they did comp our meals, so I assume they know our experience wasn't up to standard. We may give them another shot, but I'm not sure.
