I've never had a good experience at this spot. Always experienced service with a major side of attitude here. It's like a cross between snobby pretentiousness and you're just lucky to be a customer there. Not sure how they justify that but anyway. The latest incident was last night when a well known brand decided to rent out the second floor for a private party. Apparently the venue was paid for 2 hours and then once the event was over we were all abruptly kicked out. We were the only business there on a Thursday night and you would think with the news of all these local spots closing down they would want to keep as much business around as possible also keep in mind it says on their site as well as here on Yelp that they close at 1am even on weekdays. Again we were just lucky to be there. When this place finally closes down which I suspect will be soon, not a tear will be shed and not an F will be given. read more

Came here with a group of friends to get drinks on a Saturday evening. Located on the 2nd floor, they were not crowded, which is good for us as we didn't want an overcrowded bar. Plenty of seats by their long bar and plenty of booths to sit at. They have a very extensive draft menu, which my friends appreciated. I opted for a cocktail and got the Mosquito ($15), which they used Rayu Mezcal, Capitoline Tiber, Ginger, and Lemon. Loved the taste of mezcal, lemon, and ginger blend of every sip. read more

Churchkey has a cool, darker vibe. The way it is tucked away on the second floor gives it the feel of a speakeasy. My friend and I were staying in DC last week and decided to give this place a try for a late night bite and drinks. The cocktails were phenomenal. The food was also decent, but not quite as good as the drinks. We shared the smoke whitefish dip and the chicken pesto pizza. Both were a good size for sharing and left us satisfied. Our server was attentive and friendly, which is always a bonus. If you're looking for a cool place to hang out and grab drinks, Churchkey is a great spot! read more

Beer list is great, but don't even bother with their whiskey list. I went through 4 separate ones only to be told they don't have it. Maybe it's time to reprint? Friends ordered a couple small bites and they were good. Environment is good, great for a group or a date. Actually let me take that back about going with a group. I had to leave earlier than my 5 friends so I asked if I could just pay for my drinks. Waitress made it sound like it would be A huge inconvenience because people sat in different spots and I said I know what i ordered. She was still unsure. Finally she was able to do it but at this point was definitely annoyed at me so I just paid cash with a standard 20 percent tip just to hasten my escape. read more

Fantastic spot. Place was clean, atmosphere was on point and the service was incredible. Rachel was fantastic behind the bar, the whole experience was stand-out. read more

While I enjoyed the selection of beer I was a little let down with the service. Having a bar this big you need more than 2 bartenders. I appreciated the availability of small pours of some really good beers however.. I would have purchased some more expensive pours/bottles had it been conveyed to me I could. read more

Certainly not a "craft beer haven". Maybe serve your beers at something cooler than room temperature. Avoid

(11/01/24) For beer selection alone, this would get 5 stars - if you're a craft beer lover / connoisseur in the area, you owe it to yourself to visit. It had a nice, dark, speakeasy ambience, which is appropriate for this kind of venue. The service was okay; no one was unpleasant, but nothing particularly special. We ordered some fried oysters on a whim, which were tasty enough, but somewhat one note and a touch salty I'd definitely return when in the area read more

Service was good and the Sunday night specials were a good value. Unfortunately the food was not good. I had truffle fries and wings. Fries were ok, but I didn't enjoy the wings. read more

Came by for a cider event and stayed for the harder to find ciders (not on tap). Great ambiance with sports on if you're into that. Servers were attentive and were ready with recommendations. Have been here a few times... food is excellent, as it's cooked downstairs at Mallard, which is one of the best restaurants in Logan Circle. Fried Oysters and Shrimp and Grits are both incredible. Burger solid as well (all three of those are on the Mallard menu). Beer menu is insane. Over 500 beers, I'm told, and the prices are more than fair for DC. The bartender Maro (which I'm probably spelling wrong--sorry!) is pure class. I'll be back soon! read more

I have heard and read great things about this place and my wife and I finally tried it last month and we were very impressed. The menu is seasonal and it al changes and they have a ton of wonderful high quality and top rated beer. In a way this is an upscale version of Quarry House in Silver Spring. We tried various beers as well as the Beef Short Ribs, Seasonal Pizza that had butternut squash but we removed the sausage, a Roasted Baby Beets Salad, and a Creme Brûlée for dessert which we all loved. Our server was wonderful too and we look forward to returning and trying new beers and food items for other seasons. read more

About a 1.5: ChurchKey has been around since '09, and they're known for their selection of craft beer. We came here for an early dinner after work, and while I didn't partake in the drinking, our group ordered the following to share: +Housemade Tots - not that these are not your typical tater tots, but more like fried balls of mashed potatoes +Truffle Cheese Fries - with mozzarella and parsley; could have had more of the truffle oil +Smoked Whitefish Dip - prepared with smoked whitefish, cream cheese, and spices, and served with crackers; the whitefish was a little too 'fishy', and this was very salty +Corn Fritters - with pickled jalapenos and bacon-onion creme fraiche +Bleu Cheese Chips - with bleu cheese bechamel and scallions +ChurchKey Hot Wings - dressed with house hot sauce and served with bleu cheese; not sure if it was the size of the wings or they were sitting for a bit, but these were not crispy, but super soggy; more on the spicier end +a Mushroom tavern pizza - topped with cremini mushrooms, garlic cream, Parm, mozzarella, truffle pecorino, and chives; this was the preferred pie out of the three +a Spicy Sausage tavern pizza - topped with mozzarella, tomatoes, Italian sausage, pickled peppers, red onions, and basil +and, a Puttanesca tavern pizza - topped with cantabrian anchovies, capers, olives, chili flakes, and basil Overall, the food was just okay, and the service was fine. The interior of the place is dark and casual, with booth and bar seating. The place gets super packed! Limited street parking can be found in the area. +okay service +limited street parking read more

Great spot. Food was on point and amazing beer selection. It was just tough not sitting at the bar and getting them to clear our plates. There were 7 of us crammed in one of the smaller booths. Maybe some more bussers? Try the shareable shepherds pie it was fantastic. read more

Churchkey is a cool spot. People talk about their beer selection being top notch. I'd prefer to go to a brewery that specializes in IPA's so the list doesn't impress me all that much as the beer selections are the same you'd find at other places that sell a lot of beer. The service is solid and the mixed drinks are pretty good. The vibe is relaxed. The bar here is very long so you'd be hard pressed not to find a seat here. read more

Came here on a wednesday night and the upstairs bar area was super nice, not too loud either. The staff was really friendly and the beer list is massive. I also got their truffle fries that were not the best since the cheese was just one slab on top and did not really melt. Otherwise great atmosphere and a cool place to grab a drink. read more

I'm so glad that my friends decided to have an early Saturday lunch (well, liquid lunch) at ChurchKey. The space is quite amazing, and boy does ChurchKey have an AMAZING and large selection of beers. In addition to the huge selection of beers, ChurchKey also has a full bar and menu so everyone can find something that they will enjoy. Our two bartenders DJ (or JD) and a gentleman whose name I forget were very friendly and super knowledgable about ChurchKey's beer selection. I did get a small dish of grilled octopus and gigante beans (per the male bartender's recommendation), and it was absolutely delicious. I will say that I was this || close to ordering another serving, but I opted to have more beer. . . or maybe at that point, I moved on to cocktails. ;) read more

It has finally reopened "post-covid". Place is legendary and doesn't really need my review but I would say it's the top one or two places in DC to get rare and good beer. Excellent selection and top notch service. Extensive bottle selection. Food is probably good too but already had eaten. Not sure if they have any sort of elevator but you have to be able to walk up a few stories. There are plenty of tables, booths, and seats at the bar. Highly recommended. read more

Great find. We had a beautiful window side table. Meghan our waitress was super nice and efficient. We had the raw oysters to start, with spicy margaritas. Then we had delicious wings and the salami pizza. The pizza was so good we got a second one. Great fresh food with delicious flavors quite reasonably priced. I would certainly recommend this to anyone. It was also really nicely decorated with comfortable seating. Nice bathrooms too. read more

First time being back here since they closed during the pandemic. The beer selection is still great and the reason to com here. There spirit selection is great too. The food was not as good as I remembered and they have changed their menu. My friend and I got the wings to start with they tasted salty and were on the dry side. I got the fried chicken sandwich and my friend got the mushroom pizza. Fried chicken: comes on a standard bun with sliced pickles. The chicken was cooked well and was juicy with crunchy skin. It tasted pretty bland. Came with a side a fries. Mushroom pizza: comes out cut into squares. It was cooked well and not overly floppy. The mushroom tastes good along with tge cheese abd sauce but was under seasoned and did not have enough spice. There was nut enough to cut sweetness of it. Overall I would come back for a beer and skip the food. read more

The food menu has completely changed and is a bit more simplified now; less gastropub and more basic bar menu. They took the fish and chips off the menu (which was good), but the burger (Mallard's smash burger) and chicken sandwich are good options and better than the previous versions. Would skip the new pizzas, which are not as good as the old flatbreads. They can run out of beers and I once ordered from a tap that was stinky and stale, but otherwise the beer list is always a good adventure. read more

Second time here but first time trying the food! Burger was glorious, beer was great and what a cute location.

Bartender was super polite. Great feedback when I asked if he preferred the wings or octopus. Ended up going with the grilled octopus with braised gigante beans and romesco. Perfectly grilled and flavors were harmonious. Solid draft offerings with 5oz pours as an option which I appreciate. read more

This place has become my go to bar in DC for good beers, good cocktails, good bites, and good vibes. The only thing is, you might have to wait a little to put in your order. Seems like they're always short staffed. Meh, it's sort of become part of their charm, really! I don't know about you but I hate it when servers checkin on you every 5 minutes...Like, chill yo read more

Beer selection , ambiance and food are all amazing here, but the server really set the bar this trip. Her name is Nija. This is a beautiful place - very long tap and nice sits. Great selection of beers of all types up to 40 draft beers + bottles. Opens at 4 pm. Great place for after work drink. ChurchKey is located above Birch and Barley on 14th Street. Parking can be a nightmare, my friends and I took a gamble on a Saturday morning and drove down hoping to find a parking spot.... we drove around for almost 30 minutes looking for parking nearby. Once we did find a parking spot, we had to decipher the 5000 signs and symbols to make sure we weren't going to get ticketed for parking there -_- My advice is to Uber down if you can to avoid the headache! Our waiter was Alex, he seated us immediately and gave us menus to look over. I was surprised it wasn't as packed on a Saturday morning for brunch, but it was a little cold and windy outside so that probably kept people at home :P There is a Boozy Brunch special on the menu for $15 that comes with two cocktails and bottomless coffee... totally worth it! I ordered the Orange Mimosa and the Blast from the Past, both were delicious :) For my dish I ordered the Crab Cake Benedict which comes with perfectly poached eggs, harissa hollandaise, bacon bits topping and a small side of salad. They do not skimp on the crab meat, the crab cake was stuffed! The bread was nicely toasted and the harissa hollandaise had a very nice flavor to it. The side salad was a little awkward with the dish, I think a side of hash would've been better. Overall, I had a positive experience at ChurchKey. Staff were polite, food was tasty, came out as ordered and within a reasonable amount of time. If I were in the area I would come back here again :) read more

First and foremost, I am not a beer snob, so this spot was not my choice of places to check out, but I ended up really enjoying it. They are notable for having 500 rotating craft beers, but there was also a substantial wine list and crafted cocktails. I ordered the Interpretive Dance, which is a bourbon cocktail, because I tend to order all bourbon options when I'm out of town to compare them to what we make in Kentucky. This one was overwhelmed with the taste of the cherry bark vanilla bitters, unfortunately - the traces of the Buffalo Trace bourbon were barely there. My brother ordered three different beers which he was overly ecstatic about, so success there. We also tried a couple of small plates: the deviled eggs (the presentation was fabulous), and the chicken pot pie croquettes. The pot pie bites were delish! They tasted more than little balls of chicken cordon blue, rich and savory, and we were in love with the gravy they were resting in. Kudos to the snacks. This place was packed - like seriously wall-to-wall, standing room only packed on a Friday night at 9pm, but we found a couch to sit on in the back that was a community seating area. Our server was fantastic despite the crowd, the drinks and food arrived promptly. No complaints here! read more

Went here for drinks after work with some colleagues. The selection of beers available was definitely impressive. The atmosphere is low key and nice, but a little dark. Service was very polite but a bit slow considering the place wasn't anywhere near crowded. The bar staff also seemed to discourage sitting at the bar for some reason. read more

Came to ChurchKey on a Sunday early evening before meeting up with a group for dinner elsewhere, and we were able to snag one of the seats by the beautiful windows overlooking 14th street. We absolutely love looking at their unique, extensive beer list, and I feel like you can't go wrong (especially if you ask for recommendations from the people who work there). We had a few excellent beers -- love that they offer a 4oz tasting option for those of us who struggle to pick just one beer. Also tried the mushroom pizza, which was very tasty and a perfect snack to go along with our brews! Will definitely continue to come here and bring friends who will appreciate the beer list. read more

I knew to search for a door leading to upstairs and found it. There's not a sign out front. A long set of stairs to reach it after opening a door. So it's about 7pm Friday night in the summer and about 3/4 of tables are taken. I'm alone and sit at the bar. Not friendly bar service but very efficient. He was busy making drinks for the bar line and waiters covering the tables. I had a beer and the Smash Burger with fries. It was served faster than I expected and was tasty. Beer came with water too. (A law in DC?) I'd go back. The tables are all close to full now at 8:30 pm. No line though. read more

*Tater Tot Review Included* Come here if you want the best tater tots you've ever had. Went in hungry but unfortunately on a Sunday night, the kitchen closes(11pm) a cpl hours before the bar closes. Thankfully the waitress was able to convince them to make me an order of ginger-honey wings. They were delicious! They had the right amount of crispiness and the perfect ratio of sauce. I appreciated that but I wish I was able to order more since i was there for food not drinks. While the wings were 5s, my drink was the complete opposite. Something was off, but instead of complaining i just left it on the table. I think this is more of a beer place. I should have had a beer, but I really don't like beer lol Next time: remember to get your night owl self there earlier read more
