Churchill Square Shopping Centre is the main shopping centre serving Brighton, UK, albeit there are shopping areas elsewhere such as on Western and North Roads, and within a few minutes walk of the Railway Station. It is a pretty small centre, most of the stores are also small and brands such as Three, EE and Superdrug do have other branches around the city. Many other stores also seem to be smaller by usual standards from the brand, including one of the older-fashioned, uninspiring and smallest Apple Stores I've seen across Europe. There were multiple cold-call style sellers conducting University research and a Sky desk, the latter was worse as it was located so close to certain stores such as Game, they were basically pulling customers a way to try and make them sign up for their services. I can't help but feel this only works in larger and more spacious malls so you can hide from them if you will, rather than being so close, making it seem even more awkward and frustrating. There are multiple brands here including JD Sports, Three, EE. WHSmith also has one of the larger stores I've seen in the brand, which includes a Post Office. If you prefer to use Collect+, the information desk does do Collect+ and there are Amazon Lockers within the centre. There is a small food court on the top floor, which also struggles to compete with the dining scene in the rest of the city, and mainly consists of a few fast food chains including Mcdonald's. Even most coffee shops including Starbucks and Costa, prefer to be outside of the mall and across the way! The construction across the mall is a little strange, it is over three floors, which are pretty small, there is a steep slope leading up to the Apple Store / Debenhams area of the mall, making it really similar in a sense to intu Potteries located in the Hanley area of Stoke-on-Trent. It has some good brands but doesn't do it particularly well. The Westside, on Western Road with large stores such as Topman, WHSmith and JD Sports, makes it appear modern and cool, but it just doesn't live up to that. 2* - More of a place to shop under shelter with some okay brands (some which can't be found elsewhere), avoidable on a nice day because Brighton is a nice place to spend time outside in the sun, along the seafront or shopping areas where the larger shops seem to be located, with the exception being the anchor stores here such as Debenhams. Lack of places to sit down and grab a drink or food such as major restaurants or coffee-shops also lets Churchill Square down, as it seems they focus on a few fast food outlets. read more

I have a kind of Love/Hate relationship with Churchill Square. It's reasonably convenient, what with everything being under one roof, but the parking is a pain (expensive, long queues, and difficult to access as they have shut a number of the roads around it at the moment). It's handy if you know what you need and where you need to get it from, and it contains most of the common high street shops that you would expect to find in a shopping centre of this size. However, it's also usually packed (with teenagers and prams) and can be a bit stressful. I've found myself here quite often recently for numerous Mothercare visits, and at least you aren't walking too many miles (useful at eight and a half months pregnant!) That said, Brighton has so many amazing alternatives for shopping if you want something a little less run of the mill. The Laines has some fantastic independent shops which offer a much better shopping experience in my opinion, and I usually prefer to shop here if I have the time and the energy. read more

I'm not a fan of shopping centres, not least the variety designed and built in the concrete block era with little imagination or flair. On walking in to Churchill Square I feel instantly drained...there's something about the artificial light and the lack of fresh air. The sheer number of shops doesn't help either, the potential has a crippling effect on me and I go into stimulus overload. I suppose you could say shopping centres are my kryptonite. I find the best way to approach Churchill Square is to get in and get out! Personal phobias aside, I can see that Churchill Square serves a purpose. It is both convenient and I believe desirable (!) to some people to have a whole load of high-street shops under one roof. If high-street fashion is your thing, you'll find Debenhams, H&M, Miss Selfridge, River Island, Schuh, Sole Trader and many more shops all in the complex. Other shops include Habitat, BHS, HMV and Borders. If you're short on time and need a gift or a last minute outfit, this place could be an easy solution. Mind you, there's so many shops to choose form, it could just increase the confusion! The weekends are madness in this place. During December, you will find there is a German Xmas market outside...with waffles, Gluwein and German bratwurst, I'd stay outside and soak up the festive atmosphere! read more

Back in the day, this was my place -- it was THE place. It's such a nice mall - big, bright, and airy - and located smack in the middle of all the action in Brighton; restaurants and cafes, loads of other stores, and major bus routes are all nearby. I first discovered Churchill Square Shopping Centre around a decade ago (crazy, I know!) and, all this time later, it looked just as nice as I remembered it. If I lived closer, I'd be mopping it up every weekend. My wallet is grateful that I don't. read more

Being a Brighton noob, Churchill Square was suggested to me as somewhere easy to find and reasonably priced for parking in the evening Hence, my review is only for the multi-storey car park. My sat nav did lead me quite efficiently if a little windingly to Churchill Square. There were a lot of parking spaces available and I was able to walk out of the car park entrance onto West Street My local Yelp host had warned me about the ahem, entertainment on West Street and later that evening, I was able to confirm her observations to be true! They lose a star for having machines that only took coins that night - notes and credit cards weren't being accepted and fortunately, between us, we had enough change for the machines. Prices aren't exactly cheap but I gather, not too bad for Brighton. I have to confess to getting lost on one of the floors leading to the exit when I couldn't see the sign saying Exit! I apologise to any watching security guards who thought I was driving round and round the empty parking lot for fun! read more

This is an odd place to review. I have a bunch of bookmarks. I told myself that I am going to write a review about the first bookmark that appears on the page. That bookmarked location was Churchill Square. Churchill Square is a pretty uninspiring place. Seagulls swooping down for tossed burger baps and one-legged pigeons fighting for scraps near the pizza van. My guilty pleasure? The smell greasy whiff from the burger van outside of Kokoro. I can only recall eating from here once, about four years ago. It was every bit as dirty and enjoyable as you'd imagine. I haven't eaten there again for that very reason - I know it will become an addiction. It's always 5 degrees too hot inside. Don't ever bother going to the toilets. They stink and are hidden in a bunker towards the end of a 400-yard tunnel. I guess there is pretty much every type of shop you could need. Apple Store and GAME for geeks, BHS and Debenhams for old people, HMV for those stuck in 2006 and a juice bar for kids who can't be bothered to exercise. If you're a 30k millionaire, you get Zara and a couple of chain jewellery stores for that lucky other half. There's a Post Office in WH Smith's which between 12 and 1pm simulates the experience of being in a mental asylum. Boring. Don't bother going inside in the summer, it's too hot and too crowded. There are swarms of foreign students and you turn into a bad person wishing they would all go away. The stress will cause you to have an argument with your partner and it will ruin your weekend. It's much better in the winter. A small pop-up Christmas market appears and serves up European treats like wooden trinkets, fake Pokemon bags and Bratwurst. The Bratwurst is incredible. In fact, the Bratwurst guy has now opened up a shop called FRITZ just outside Churchill Square. Go there instead. Or go enjoy a dirty burger. You know you want to. read more

An excellent shopping centre, with pretty much everything you could want there. Upstairs there is a food court with half a dozen options for food, MacDonald's being one of them. From a shopping point of view my favourite shops include the massive Debenhams (which itself has a restaurant on the top floor of course), Next (wher e I always buy colour-coded socks whenever I visit England), Superdrug (sometimes I feel like I'm the only man shopping there) and WH Smith. Recently I've bought some cheap top at BHS, I didn't want to spend too much on clothes as I'm hoping to lose weight soon ;) read more

Ugly Churchill Square seems decidedly behind the rest of Brighton, and well in need of an update considering the rush of people that seem to flood Brighton at the weekends, particularly in the christmas run up. In fact, if you're into your high street shopping I really wouldn't recommend Brighton, which lacks some big names altogether, and has only small branches of others (say Topshop). But Churchill Square's 80 plus shops do serve a purpose, and the shopping centre handily groups together shops, such as the many phone shops (T Mobile, Carphone Warehouse, Phones 4 U and Vodaphone). Though if you're visiting Brighton, don't let a trip to this place be at the expense of missing out the Lanes or North Laine. read more

I guess this place is a lot better than Crawley Mall but it still doesn't really sell anything that I'm interested in buying. There always seems to be a massive group of people all shuffling around at the same pace and all with one goal - to get in my way. There is a nice cookie shop in there though and I guess WH Smiths is always handy to pick up a couple of magazines and maybe a pen? If you've ever experienced this place around Christmas though, you, like me will be mentally scarred forever. I still get flash backs now and it really isn't good. read more

Oh Brighton you can do better than this surely!? Ok, so you have the beautifully eclectic lanes and the sparkly beach but a good shopping centre you haven't! Which is fine because I don't really visit Brighton to do my shopping. Inside is uninspiring and the shops are blah. There's not much seating around and rubbish wifi. I haven't ventured up to the food area before but with everything in Brighton pretty amazing outside of this dreaded zone I think I'll be ok ta. Just your average, run of the mill shopping centre. Nothing amazing, nothing really stands out. Not to say that Churchill Square isn't convenient of course, it's just that there isn't anything that makes me actually WANT to go there. I find the place quite draining to be honest. The shops inside are the sort of shops that you would find on the High Street anywhere in the UK, with Topshop, BHS and Debenhams being the largest stores. I don't drive so I have no problems with parking, I don't live far away anywaym but you only have to see the queues to get into the overpriced car park (so I've been told), and that would be enough to put anyone off. Also, in my 8 years of living in Brighton I have found Churchill Square to be unbearably hot! It's as if they have never got the air conditioning working. The toilets are awful! I'm not saying that it's totally rubbish, but there are so many cool places to shop in Brighton if you are looking for anything really. In the summer it is overrun with tourists, and at Christmas it is overrun with people dashing around buying presents! I tend to avoid where possible. read more

It's hard to know how to rate this place - at the end of the day, it's a shopping centre, and they're never great, let's be honest. Still, this is better than many - two floors plus a third for the food outlets, means that it's not stupidly big and stifling, and the stale burger smell doesn't penetrate. There's a decent sized branch of Debenhams, and a fairly varied choice of other high street clothes and sports shops. The branches of Zara and Schuh here are good. They also have a few stalls selling more unusual stuff - jewellery, ornamnents - setting up in the centre aisles. read more

Churchill square shopping centre is a pretty bog standard shopping centre. There's nothing overly wrong with it but there's also nothing exciting about it either. When I wander around Brighton I tend not to bother with it as there are a lot more interesting places in the North Laine and The Lanes. read more
