What a wonderful stop…read more We were visiting Shakespeare's birthplace, and after enriching our minds we definitely needed a drink. Without hesitation our guide immediately recommended the Old Thatch Tavern. First of all, it is centrally located and easy to find. Once there you're taking by the decor and homely feeling. The staff were amazing. I wasn't drinking hard liquor and they guided me through a variety of Apple ciders that were delightful. They made the entire experience 1000% better. Their advice and knowledge really made the stop one of the best drinking experiences we had in England. Little by little more members of our crew continues showing up and eventually we had a full blown part going. Again, it was a blast! I can't wait to go again, make a stop at the Old Thatch Tavern and relive some of the memories.

It was 10.25 on Wednesday evening, February 25th, but we were turned away by the young barman, as he said he had already called last orders and wasn't letting anybody else in. Now, my husband and I were very disappointed, as everywhere else in the town had been so welcoming and accommodating. We walked across the road and had a few drinks in another bar, as there are plenty of nice places to choose from, BUT, if I was the owner of this establishment, I would not be best pleased at young bar staff turning my customers away. That is a lot of revenue to lose over the year if this is happening every night, especially with the cost of living at its current high and the daily struggle that pubs face to stay profitable!! Maybe a bit of staff re-training wouldn't go amiss and a reminder of who pays the wages!!

After tasting a rancid drink of Tomato juice where I could tell it was definitely off and tasted acidic and was bubbling (working). Manager refused to accept it was off. Oddly enough wouldn't try it though. Refused to refund. I have used this restaurant regularly on Sundays prior but I will think again about the future. He just smirked showing his total disinterest.. I think they thought I was just a passing through customer and would not be seen again - how wrong. Overall the food was good and the waiting staff were brilliant. Shame that the manager was less helpful therefore letting the team down. I have made a complaint and will see if they reply. Update: Visited today 24/8. Spoke to a professional supervisor, she listened, understand my complaint, apologised and rectified the situation. So much better than my first interaction with management. Thank you.

We booked this last minute and as soon as we walked in, were ignored. A white couple came in after us and the blonde waitress went directly around us and took them to a table. I made direct eye contact as she was taking them, as if to say, I saw that and yes we're still here. She intentionally avoided us completely after as we were standing there waiting to be helped. The man behind the bar saw, seated us instead, and then we were ignored for another 20 minutes. I asked another blonde waitress if we could be helped and she said WE'LL GET TO YOU. She had never even acknowledged our presence or existence prior. I was already so upset we just decided to leave after that. We left with empty bellies and a trip to a local grocery store instead. There's a Yelp review from 9 days ago about this and one on TripAdvisor from this month saying the EXACT SAME THING.

We had high expectations given the reviews, but were disappointed. The room and patio were not very…read morecomfortable- but the worst of it was the way we were treated. They were just not very gracious about seating us or making us feel welcome. We were walk-ins and felt like second class citizens from the moment we arrived. They offered us a table in the back we didn't like and requested a specific table in the front room but we're told it was "taken" (but remained empty the whole time we were there). They finally moved us to the empty patio but said "we need this table back in one hour." The server was unable to offer any suggestions, instead saying "everything is good." As for the food, my wife had oysters which were fantastic. I had the burger, which was a pile of meat of every kind on a soggy bun. They simply tried too hard with a burger. When I asked to have the sauce on the side, they said that I could have it "on or off" but not in the side. They'd bring me ketchup and mustard on the side. Strange rule... Ultimately, we probably didn't try enough of their food to make an overall comment that n food quality, but in terms of service, they have a long, long way to go even if their food is spectacular.

The ambiance was exactly what you'd expect in a quiet inn in the countryside. Exposed beams and stone, a big hearth fireplace, clean tables, floors, bar area and restrooms. The service was attentive, but not overly so. I ordered quickly and the food was well timed. I had the fish and chips, which honestly had a bit too much batter for my taste, but the batter was so good, that didn't matter at all. The chips were perfect, and the peas were the perfect compliment. It is clear this is a local gathering spot.
