It always grieves me to write down a restaurant which has been a favoured haunt in the past. It's kind of like taking a favourite pet for the final trip to the vet. You know it has to be done, but you don't feel good about it regardless.
And so to Enoteca, a dinner, and six very experienced diners...
Point 1. Is it ok for the waiter to lecture you about your choice of wine? Even before you order any food?
Point 2. Is it ok to bring half the group's main courses out 15 minutes before the rest? And tell you that it's your fault because you chose the slow cooked dish.
Point 3. Is it ok for the "late arriving" dishes, advertised as slow cooked, to arrive clearly undercooked and too tough to dismember except with vigorous use of a steak knife?
No, it's not.
I will say that in their favour, once the complaint went up the tree (and it took considerable pushing to get it there), the maître d was conciliatory and offered a small deduction from the bill. But that was damage control, and damage by then had been done. read more
