Dr. Yen is fantastic! During my consultation, he was clear, thorough, and answered all of my questions. On the day of surgery, he was kind and made sure to address any concerns I had. He removed three of my wisdom teeth, including one that was under the gums. I expected to feel a lot more pain afterward, but honestly, my 5-hour tattoo session earlier this month hurt more . I was sedated, which made the experience less stressful. Now I understand why they don't want you to Uber home, because I don't remember much how I got home. They ask that you have someone there you know to take you home. What really stood out to me was that Dr. Yen personally called the next day to check in. That kind of follow-up shows how much he truly cares about his patients. I would definitely recommend him. I would go back to see him but I have no more teeth to extract lol read more

Dr. Yen is indeed a very good surgeon. I just wish these guys were not running an establishment which gives false information to force patients to pay a lot more money after the procedure. My wife was in need to wisdom tooth extraction and we were referred to Dr. Yen for the same. Before the start of procedure, we confirmed with them if they are in-network (Metlife PPO). They said that they are in-network and gave an estimate of 190/- USD which we paid. After 2 weeks, we got a bill from Yen Oral surgery showing a balance amount of 250/- !! The claim they submitted with Metlife was for out-of-network. When I called up Metlife , they told me that Dr. Yen has specifically asked to be removed from network in the beginning of the 2021 (much before my wife's procedure). So convenient for them to not share this information. Today I went to Yen Oral to clarify this and I was told that "we are not partners with Metlife but we are a part of bigger umbrella which is partner with Metlife". I don't even know what that means because ultimately, they are out-of-network but claiming that they are in-network. I also asked if they provide estimates without checking with insurance provider. Based on the claim filed, the estimate should have been around 400/- USD instead of 190/-. For this, the only response was "I am sorry". I am going to take this up with my referring doctor and Metlife. But, please steer clear of Yen Oral to avoid this situation. That is, unless you want to be slapped by charges which are more than twice of initial estimate. Do Not Trust these guys. read more

Dr. Yen is great! I extracted all 4 of my wisdom teeth in 1 procedure with Dr. Yen. I thought I would have prolonged pain during and for a while after the surgery given my bottom teeth was growing sideways making it more difficult to extract. However, I was so surprised on how little to no pain I felt during and after the surgery. Dr. Yen really did a great job! I highly recommend Dr. Yen for your dental procedures. read more

Got two bottom widsom teeth removed last week. I was really afraid and spent months to make my mind. I chose local drug instead of IV drug as I don't like to loss consciousness. The worst part was the drug. I felt nothing during the extraction which was a really interesting experience. After the surgery, they gave me a prescription and I got them nearby. After I got home, I cannot stop my right side from bleeding for 6 hours and I panicked because I ran out of the gauzes Dr. Yen gave me. I drove to CVS and got some new gauzes. Finally, I realized I didn't put the gauze deep enough so the spot was not covered at all. Make sure you put your gauze DEEP ENOUGH. Once I got the right spot, it stopped bleeding. NO PAIN AT ALL after the anesthesia till now!!! It has been one week and I almost return to my normal diet! So exciting I can bite again! read more

Dr. Yen is really as good as it gets! My 16-year-old nephew needed to get four teeth pulled before getting his braces. He was terrified! After Dr.Yen spoke to him about the procedure, he was not scared anymore. The office was busy that day but Dr.Yen was very patient while answering all our questions. We did not feel rushed. Dr. Yen was great. My profile and stats include me being 23, the impacted teeth sitting on two of my bottom nerves, the other top two were considered pretty normal, but I think the younger you get them done, the better it is so that the teeth won't be hitting a nerve. I was terrified and scared of the whole widom teeth extraction experience beforehand after listening to the many horror stories of my friends. Some cried, some bled for days, eating was difficult, and the ever so rampant chipmunk cheeks were a common physical abnormality post-op. However, with Dr. Yen, the worst part about wisdom teeth extraction with him was honestly just the drugs. I chose to go with sedation instead of being awake since my teeth were pretty impacted and I was getting all four removed at once. It wasn't painful at all to me, I just felt uncomfortable due to the numbing feeling left in my lip and general mouth area. I actually even woke up when they were stitching me up and I gave a weak "muhhh" response to tell them I was awake. I was dazed but I still didn't feel anything and was super loopy. I do remember him telling me once or twice "you're almost done, honey!" while seeing him stitch me up. Afterwards, I was groggy the entire day but I didn't feel pain. I took my Ibuprofen as subscribed as well as my anti-biotics, but I could talk normally within a few hours and wasn't bleeding anymore. The drugs were really in my system still, however, so they left me dizzy and weak the rest of the day. The day after I feel 80% recovered, except for the fact that I have minor chipmunk cheeks and that I can't eat solid foods for a while, but everyone has to be on a liquid diet the first day, then soft foods for the next two days. You can't spit, use a straw, sneeze, or blow your nose or else you might dislodge your blood clots and risk getting nasty dry sockets. I highly recommend Dr. Yen for anyone planning on getting their wisdom teeth extracted. read more

I was really skeptical about getting my wisdom teeth pulled out. My dentist referred me to Dr. Yen. The office is pretty nice. It just seems like a normal office, however, there are some nice decorations which distract you from the fact that you're going to have some dude drill in your mouth. I really like how they keep their magazine/newspaper selection up-to-date! The office is also very clean. I was brought into a room to watch a 10 minute video and take a quiz about wisdom teeth extraction... basically just telling me what can go wrong. Dr Yen came in and checked my teeth and to give me recommendations. (DON'T LET THE SUPER ASIAN NAME FOOL YOU, Dr. Chung K. Yen may be a really Asian name, but he's American! Not that it matters, but he has no Asian accent, for those of you who only want to see American doctors -_-) He really knew what he was talking about (obviously). He's very friendly and personable. I had no trouble talking to him. He explained the procedure and I was set up for an appointment to get my four teeth taken out a week later. The front receptionist was very helpful in explaining the payment procedure and making sure insurance covered everything. She stayed friendly and accommodating despite my extremely detailed questions, making sure I understood everything. I came back a week later, deciding to get only two wisdom teeth taken out without being put to sleep. They were very accommodating with my decision, although they preferred to put me to sleep (as I soon understood why). I got a few shots in my mouth, Dr Yen did what he was supposed to do, and I went home. I mean, the procedure was by no means pleasant, especially due to the fact that I was awake for the entire thing, however, Dr Yen tried to make it as pleasant as possible. He talked to me and was extremely positive while giving me shots as to distract me from the long needles and sharp pain. In fact, He tried to keep me distracted throughout the entire procedure. He finished in a half hour. I went home and knocked out. I came back a week later for my follow-up. He and his staff were, as usual, extremely friendly. He said everything seemed okay, and to call him if anything came up. I can't say that anything was extremely praiseworthy nor was anything terrible... as I don't think there is much to be said about a wisdom teeth extraction other than not being able to eat for a week SUCKS. However, I most definitely have to give Dr.Yen and his staff 5 stars for being friendly, personable, attentive, accommodating, and knowledgeable. read more

Doctor Yen is amazing. The guy does like 4 wisdom teeth removals a day, for who knows how many years! I bet he could do it with his eyes closed.... Appointments are necessary. This office is incredibly busy, weekends are booked at least 4 weeks in advance usually. Some days the doctor isn't in so you really have to ask the receptionist to see. I probably called in 10 times since my schedule kept changing. I was terrified to get my wisdom teeth out and had consistently put it off for a year. Finally I came in for a consultation visit, in which Dr. Yen quickly looked at my x-rays and teeth. He said my bottom two were slightly impacted which sounds scary at first but I knew I wanted to be knocked out so I didn't have to deal with that shizz. He might be very curt with you but never rude, he's simply a busy man! If you have questions, he is patient in answering you. Day of surgery: first patient at 8am on a Saturday. They gave me the IV, I laid back in my chair. Next thing I know I'm awake and someone is hauling my drugged up butt to the resting area. I go home, pass out for a couple hours, and wake up feeling sore but otherwise pain free. Easy-peasy. I was back at work in 4 days. No solids for 3 days for me, I ate plenty of yogurt, ice cream, and soup, mashed potatoes. Your jaw will be sore for a week and you'll have to come in for a checkup a week after surgery where they give you a syringe to rinse the food out of your holes (it's insane how much stuff gets stuck in there, practically a meal). They gave me two kinds of drugs, an ibuprofen and something stronger like vicodin but I didn't even need it. I just took an ibuprofen a day. It's been 3 weeks and I'm perfectly fine now-- don't even know what I was worried about. Easily the best I could have asked for with wisdom teeth surgery. THANKS Dr. Yen-- you're the man! read more

Chung because his is in our dentist Network, I did my yelp review and found his name was on the top rate and took his name to the insurance website to see if he was in the Network or not, this is how I do my DR. search this days and its working for me. My 18 years old son needed wisdom teeth extracted before he went to college, so our dentist refer us to another DR. which was not on the Network and they would change us $800 out of pocket VS $0 with in Network, so I did Yelp search and found DR. Chung with a high rate. We come in with a high expectation from the reviews it turnout that they were all right about their satisfaction. DR. I got my wisdom teeth extracted by Dr. Chung a few years ago, and it was a wonderful experience. I was referred to Dr. Chung by my dentist, and luckily, Dr. Chung accepts my insurance. Oddly, only his Milpitas office and NOT his San Jose office accepts my insurance. WARNING to other people who also don't know about weird insurance schtickles. I came, and the staff was perfectly nice to me. On my first visit, I watched a mandatory video regarding the procedure, risks, and cetera. I have to say that this was the most difficult part of my wisdom teeth experience. It's hard when you are already nervous about the procedure to hear about all the risks of what can happen to you. After watching the video, Dr. Chung came in and talked to me about the procedure and went over my questions. He was so calming and wonderful throughout the experience. I asked for painkillers afterwards and to be unconscious for the procedure. On my next visit, it was time to extract my 3 wisdom teeth. I don't remember much about it, since I was unconscious most of the time. Everyone was really kind and patient with me on the way in, and they helped peel me off the operating chair after the procedure was over and deposited me onto a resting bed, where the person who picked me up took over and took me home. A few days later, as my gums were healing, the stitches started coming up, and the receptionist, whom I called to make sure that that was supposed to be happening, was patient and understanding of my concerns. She made me feel much better and laugh about the whole thing. Great experience. I highly recommend this office for oral surgery needs. read more

5 stars ONLY for the doc. Two months ago I got all 4 wisdom teeth extracted at one shot. The doc did a good job. The receptionists were HORRIBLE!!!!! I would give them N0 star. When I scheduled an appointment the receptionist told me it would take an hour for the operation so I asked my roommate to drop me off at the clinic and pick me up accordingly. I was about to enter the operation room when they informed me that the extraction would take just half an hour. Hence they wanted someone to come in early and pick me up. They made me call my roommate to confirm if she could come in early. While I was calling they were like it's going to be lunch time ,you got to hurry up blah blah else reschedule the appointment. They were freaking annoying. They need to provide the right information to the patients before hand else learn to shut up! read more

Terrible experience, this dental office is completely fraudulent. For a dental appointment they charged me $30 copay, I called my insurance and was told they should not have charged me anything because the visit is covered 100%. Also, they told me to extract a wisdom tooth that had no pain, no problem at all and told me my insurance would cover it. Turns out my insurance didn't cover it and they just said that to bill me for an extra tooth that I didnt go in for in the first place. If I knew my insurance wouldn't have covered it I wouldn't have had it taken out, PERIOD. They are terrible and just look for ways to make a quick buck. Now they are threatening to take me to collections if I dont pay a $500 bill. I am gathering all evidence from my insurance provider to settle this in court. He is indeed one of the best of the best maxillofacial surgeons. he has taken both my bottom wisdom teeth which were impacted 90% of the teeth were inside the jaw bone just a few days ago. since my case was serious, he had to knock me out to sleep in order to do surgery on me. and im on 5th day after surgery and i am recovering fine. he gave me great pain reliever medications and really took care of me. he is definitely the best and best at what he does. the surgery was quick, of course he is skilled. and the recovery is quick. im on my 5th day and i already feel great besides alittle bit on poofy cheeks which i see is going down. he is defintely the best, professional, and great at what he does. dr, chung yen is the best maxillofacial surgeon. i trust him. four years ago, ive had my top two wisdom teeth taken out at another office and I can still remember how unpleasant i felt. i remember my healing time was longer. and the top two were easy compared to the 2 bottom ones. i trust dr. chung yen to do my teeth surgeries, if needed, i will be going to him in the future. read more

I needed to take out all 4 of my wisdom teeth at once. The procedure was not that long and I didn't feel any pain afterwards. The staff at the front are also very friendly! After a few days, they called to check up on me to make sure everything is okay. A week after my surgery, I went back for a check up with Dr Yen and he told me everything is healing well. Hubs did not get his wisdom teeth taken out when he was a teen (like he was supposed to, shame shame!) so here we were... hubs is 27 and needs to get them taken out. We made an appointment with Dr Chung because that's where I got mine taken out years ago (like 10-12 years ago... can't remember exactly how old I was). It took a little back and forth between me and the receptionist (hubs has a busy schedule between work + school, and Dr Chung has 2 different offices), but we finally settled on an appointment. Morning of the appointment, we showed up, filled out the forms, and we were ready to see the doc. The doc explained why hubs really needed to get at least 1 of the teeth taken out, and would still recommend the other 3 be taken out as well. He explained how the process would work out and everything. We then spoke with the receptionist about the financial aspects of the surgery, and we were good to go! A week later, hubs and I went back to the doctor's office for his surgery. I walked him to the car and drove him home. The doc checked him out a week later to make sure he was healing properly, and we were good. It was such a quick and seamless process, I loved it! Its good to know that there are still good doctors out there that don't make my life a living hell. They took care of everything--calling the insurance to check our coverage, faxing the perscription to the pharmacy so that I could pick it up after work, making sure he was comfortable through the entire process. When we have kids (if Dr Chung is still around by then :P) I will definitely be taking them back there as well! read more

So I've been literally dreading removing my four wisdom teeth for about 10 years now. I finally decided to get them removed because I was so tired of cleaning them. And I'm so, so, so glad I came here. Both my brothers and my bf previously got their wisdoms pulled from here as well. Making the appointment was as easy as picking up the phone. I was able to tell them that I wanted my consultation + surgery the same visit. I knew I wanted to go under because I could not bare to be alive for something like this and they told me to fast 6 hours before. Easy peasy. On day of surgery, paperwork and insurance was a breeze. Dr. Chung was so nice, so knowledgeable and so friendly. He made me feel so comfortable and presented all my options so I could choose what was best for me. I got some laughing gas and then I was out. I woke up and was never really in pain. Came back a week later for the follow up and I healed nicely. Yeah! After inquiring about the procedure, with a number of offices, Dr. Chung's was among two (out of at least 10) offices whose staff was helpful and pleasant to speak with. After scheduling a consult, I found Dr. Chung to be straightforward, a little abrupt, but knowledgeable. We scheduled the procedure, only to have to cancel the day prior, as my daughter was running a slight fever. The offices were very accommodating and kindly asked that I call back when she was feeling better. We made it the next week; the procedure went very smoothly with sedation, with no complications. *The only suggestion I would have is for the office to call and check-in to see how their patients are doing after they get home. read more

I'm definitely NOT a fan of the dentist and having to get my wisdom teeth removed seriously terrified me. I've been putting off getting them removed until I could no longer handle the pain. I had an appt. on Thursday and I did my consult and I was supposed to get them out the same day but they were having problems with the machine. I was really upset because I had already moved around my work schedule, got a babysitter and had already prepared myself for the pain. The ladies in the front were super nice, they offered to squeeze me in the following day even though their schedule was already super booked and they also gave me a discount for the inconvenience. Went in on Friday, the ladies again were really nice and I had my procedure done. Dr. Yen and the other doctor (can't remember her name) were seriously so nice and I'm glad I chose to come here. I was terrified about having my wisdom teeth removed and I felt like I was going to have a panic attack but Dr. Yen and the other doctor calmed me down and made me feel relaxed. They explained everything perfectly! I would've given a 5 star review if I didn't have to come back the next day but the staff was so nice and very professional. This was my first time I had a surgery for my Wisdom Tooth removal(All 4 of them). I was really tensed about the process and the pain that i will have to suffer. But as all other reviews mentioned in yelp, Dr Yen did a great job. The staff was really pleasant and supportive. They asked me to get the Antibiotics and pain killers prior to surgery. On the day of surgery, i remembered only till they gave me IV anesthesia. I didn't even feel a single pain during my surgery. After surgery I came home and there was a little discomfort until the anesthesia wear off. I was really lucky that I didn't even felt pain even after surgery. I was taking pain killers but reduced amount. The only irritation was the stitches which I felt like pulling out. After 1 week I was back to normal and was able to eat all foods. I would say Dr Yen is really good at his work and he did it really well for me so that I didn't even had pain for my 4 wisdom tooth(2 - Normal ones, 1 Partially impacted and 1- Fully impacted). I would recommend Dr Yen to for your wisdom teeth removal. read more

I'm 30 years old and recently had all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed by Dr. Yen. As you may know, the older you get the more the roots of your wisdom teeth grow. He informed me of all the risks involved and was extremely helpful and funny. I was a bit nervous since this procedure is usually done in your early 20s. The surgery came and went without issue. The pain was manageable and I didn't have any swelling. The entire staff were kind and helpful, I really had an unforgettable time here. A+. read more

I couldn't wait to review this!! I waited for almost 10 years to decide to have my two wisdom teeth extracted. I went to a dental surgeon before who scared me a lot. Recently I got referred to Dr Yen. I went in for consultation. He was truly professional, told me clearly of the risks, what the wisdom teeth had done to my other teeth etc in a very calm and professional way which did not make me feel threatened or scared at all. I also asked him when was the best timing to do the surgery since I would be on vacation overseas. He told me that it did not matter and he also shared his vacation plan which really cracked me up. He made me feel calm right away and I felt very confident of letting him do the surgery. (And I really couldn't wait to do the surgery.) On the surgery day, I felt very relaxed (just a little bit anxious when I lay down on the chair). I chose to stay awake and was given the shots. I felt like all the people in the office came check on me while waiting which I appreciated. I felt more relaxed. Before Dr Yen started the surgery, he told me that it was just the noise and nothing else. In fact, it was a bit scary with the sound and pulling etc, it was not bad at all. I recommend this place! I am pretty pleased with everything. Go here if you need to get your wisdom teeth removed. I am very happy with their service and how the procedure went. I would definitely recommend sedation! I got my all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed with sedation a week ago. This is basically what happened. I went in at 10:30am and I was out by 11:30am. I love how quick the whole procedure was. I am recovering pretty well! - Checked in and gave the front desks my referral and X-rays. - Watch a video about wisdom teeth and extraction. - Surgeon reviews risks and stuff - Finalize insurance and payment details. (pay) - Went back to the lobby for a few minutes. - Went to room for procedure - they hooked an IV, heart rate, and blood pressure monitors on my arm, fingers, wrists. They also gave me some oxygen mask on my nose. - The next thing I know I am at home recovering comfortably on my couch. Obviously, recovery and eating will vary from person to person. But here is my experience. Recovery: I just needed that one day to relax and recover. The next day I was basically back to normal the next day. Food: As for eating, I was eating soup and ensure for the first two days, and then soft foods the next 2 days. Now that it has been a week since the extraction, I am basically back to normal foods, eating small bites. Sedation: I was groggy for several hours after the procedure. But I am glad I did it. I did not want to hear the sound of drilling and my tooth cracking, or whatever goes on during the procedure. read more

I'll admit - I was extremely terrified about getting my wisdom teeth removed. I even contemplated cancelling the procedure the day of! But after calming my nerves down a bit, I remembered how necessary it was for me to get all 4 of my molars removed (since they were causing terrible headaches & discomfort to my gums), and decided to go through with it anyway. And guess what? I SURVIVED! I don't know why, but I was freaking myself out prior to the procedure reading about all these dental procedures that have gone wrong....My co-workers even questioned me getting anesthesia saying that it'd be more safe for me to get the numbing shot, making me even more worried! MY ADVICE FOR ALL OF YOU: Do not listen to other people's opinions & above all, do not read dental horror stories on the internet! Just go in for the initial consultation and ASK all the questions you have about the procedure. Dr. Yen is absolutely wonderful - very approachable, straight forward, and knowledgeable. You could tell he's been doing these procedures for a very long time, and that he takes pride in his work. Before he actually began the procedure, he & his assistant explained everything that was going to be done. They first hooked me up to a blood pressure machine to monitor my B.P & heartrate, then inserted an IV into my arm. Once they had me hooked up, Dr. Yen explained to me that he was finally going to sedate me & that I'll be asleep sooner than I know it, and once I wake up the procedure will have already been done. HE WAS RIGHT. I was surprised by how fast everything went.... I don't even remember knocking out or falling asleep. All I remember is waking up on an examination bed with my older sister ready to take me home. I was still really sleepy/groggy getting into my sister's car (she had to help me get in)... I think it took about another hour for the anesthesia to fully wear off. The ONLY thing that sucks about wisdom teeth removal is the healing process! Luckily the doctor prescribed me Vicodin & Ibuprofen to deal with the aftermath & pain. It definitely helped, but my mouth was still uncomfortable. I think it took about a good 3-4 days for my mouth to feel somewhat normal/okay again. Like the doctor had recommended, I ate nothing but soup & soft solids (mashed potatoes). He had me schedule a 1 week follow up with him, and when I came in for the follow-up appointment he told me that everything was healing perfectly, and that the stitches would fall out on it's own. It's been a couple months now since my wisdom teeth removal, and I couldn't be any happier. I'm so glad I got this done and over with. My ONLY advice I have for Dr. Yen's office, is to set appointment/procedure reminders (instructions) for their patients. Luckily, I remembered the day of that I needed to be fasting for at least 12 hours! One of the receptionists here is also not that friendly... when I called the day of to confirm that I needed to be fasting, she said in a rude tone "Didn't we give you instructions 2 months ago? You were supposed to read that." Yes - you did give me instructions TWO MONTHS AGO...ON A TINY PIECE OF PAPER, but it still would've been nice to have that reminder. I had such a great experience here that I had to make my first review on yelp! I needed emergency surgery on my impacted wisdom tooth that had been causing me intense pain for 4 days during Thanksgiving vacation. I called Dr. Yen's office first thing Monday and I was able to come in right away. The whole staff was very friendly, the receptionist in the front was able to get a hold of my insurance right away and sent me back to see the doctor. Dr. Yen was super helpful when looking at my X-Ray and gave me all my options to go forward with surgery. After some quick paperwork and prep, Dr. Yen helped removed all 4 of my wisdom teeth in a timely fashion it was over before I knew it. Now it's one Day later and my tooth pain is all gone! read more

Although the staff at this facility was friendly, I did not appreciate the poor communication between the surgeon and staff. I specifically requested the cost of my visit before signing the paperwork and being seen. I was told it would be about $30. I proceeded. When I finally was seen by the surgeon, Dr. Yen, he began asking me why I was there even though he had a referral with all the details. After this, he then proceeded to tell me that "Anyone missing teeth for a long period of time will experience bone loss" He said that in order to perform an accurate consultation it will require a cat scan to determine the amount of bone loss experienced. The cost of this procedure was ridiculous and not covered. The bottom line is I spent an hour and the deductible for absolutely nothing. If I was told upfront what the surgeon clearly already knew, that a cat scan was required, I would not have gone through with the visit and would not have wasted my time and money. read more

If it wasn't for yelp and everyone's reviews I wouldn't of gone to Dr Yen's to get my wisdom teeth removed. I'm a huge baby when it comes to the dentist. Dr Yen made me feel calm and told me that everything will be fine. I got the local anesthesia and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. He did it quick and painless and his assistant was nice as well. During the procedure he kept checking on me to see if I was doing fine. Dr. Yen is so amazing. I went to him for all my wisdom teeth removals. I was referred to him by my general dentist (Dr. Bambico) and so glad I listened to him. Dr. Yen and his staff make your real comfortable. I terrified of the dentist alone so when I found out I had to do some oral surgery I was even more terrified! The staff is really easy to work with when it comes to payment plans. The lady front desk lady even gave me a discount on some of my bill. The overall procedure always goes smooth. If you need any extractions or wisdom teeth removal, I highly recommend Dr. Yen because he knows what he's doing and the guy is super funny! read more

I did my oral surgery to remove three wisdom teeth. I was a little worried at beginning but Dr Yen did a great job, I almost didn't feel any pain after surgery! And I didn't even need to take any pain killer either. I was back to work immediately the next day. Only thing need to pay attention is the nausea after general anesthesia. This is my first time doing general anesthesia (sleep). And after operation I did feel nausea. Dr Yen will give you a note saying that carbonated water would help, but it is good to prepare it before hand. read more

I usually never write any Yelp reviews but this is something I could not ignore, because this could be either fraud or just really bad book keeping. About a month ago, my mother called this office off of a referral from my dentist about getting my wisdom teeth pulled - something that's been bothering me for a while. She informed the secretary that I had to return to school in SoCal January 12/13th and that she wanted an appointment that could make this time. She was told the earliest date they could manage was today morning, Tuesday January 7th, and that to make timing work, I could do my procedure right after the consultation. Meanwhile, I change my entire winter break plans around this wisdom teeth pulling and the recovery time, and while I wasn't exactly excited to get them out, I certainly was glad I was getting it done. Fast forward to yesterday at 11:47AM, I get a phone call from this office reminding me of my appointment and to NOT EAT 6 hours before because it was a requirement for oral surgery from their office number (408) 945 - 8646. I get to the office this morning at 9 (my appointment time) and spend the next hour filling out two pieces of liability papers and watching a 10 minute informational video on wisdom teeth, all the while starving from not eating all morning. I meet Dr. Yen, and we chat about the liabilities. I bring up very early in the conversation that I am leaving in 5-6 days and he tells me "I'm cutting it close" but continues with the consultation anyway. He doesn't seem to know that I was supposed to get surgery today. He ends the conversation basically saying he doesn't think I should do it, even though he went over the entire consultation already, and insists that I CAN get it done, at the risk of problems and him not being responsible if I'm out of town and that he suggested I wait until another time when I'm in town from 7- 10 days. He also insinuated that I was home earlier in break and that I should have booked an earlier appointment (which is so ridiculous, seeing as we asked if this date could work, and if it couldn't have then we would have tried to find another oral surgeon!) He made me feel so uncomfortable and put on the spot. When I went to the front desk, the lady talked me through payment for removal of wisdom teeth, and then asked when I wanted to book my surgery. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I was booked for today!! And then she has the nerve to tell me afterwards that they're booked full for the week, and that I probably should be here for 7 days after surgery because that's Dr. Yen's rule. She then proceeded to charge me $140 on my insurance for the consultation, for 45 minutes of waiting, 10 minutes of a video, and 10 minutes of consultation by the doctor. I didn't even get an X-Ray - I freaking brought my own from my dentist. Dr. Yen was nice enough and I'm sure he's a great oral surgeon, but this was so unprofessional of the practice. TLDR; I was told by the practice my situation would work, get a call before my appointment and get confirmation on the appointment and surgery, show up and am met with confusion and a $140.00 bill - literally get nothing out of it. Oh, I was also told by Dr. Yen "it won't hurt my feelings if you find another oral surgeon in LA" - so I'll go ahead and do that. read more

I would agree with a previous Yelper that the receptionists here aren't the friendliest people. The stars ARE in fact for the doctors and assistant. I went a few months ago for an extraction because my previous dentist did a horrible job on a crown, so bacteria got trapped under a hole and ate away at my tooth and it became decayed. Dr. Yen had a consultation with me and told me what happened and went through different options thoroughly and gave honest opinions of what he thought I should do. I didn't feel like he was trying to sell me anything by picking the most expensive thing. My tooth was totally shattered and Dr. Yen had to basically cut my gums and pull out the root completely. After two weeks of debating, I finally decided to do the procedure awake since I hate needles (I did get my wisdom teeth pulled out with the same doctor when I was 18 and it was really fast and painless - my cheeks didn't even puff up!). I was very disappointed that my boyfriend couldn't go in with me as I was terrified. The assistant was THE biggest sweetheart ever. She held my hand during the whole procedure while giving me encouraging words while I was bawling like the biggest baby ever. The pain, which I don't blame on the doctor at all, was I think the tooth decay that happened for over 1.5 years. I didn't have insurance before so I waited until now. Dr. Yen worked as quickly as he could and talked to me throughout the whole procedure even though I basically ignored him because I was crying so hard. Afterwards, the assistant gave detailed instructions of how to take care of my teeth. I would definitely recommend this place if you need to get a wisdom tooth pulled or an extraction! read more

Very unhappy with how they charged me. They called my insurce before doing the surgery and asked me to pay for $80, they told me that's all I need to pay. A few days later they send me another bill ask me to pay another aournd $100. I called and they told me that the previous one was just estimation. Every of my friend and colleague told me such things never happed to them. When the staff talking to the insurance company, they should already figure out how much the patient should pay. If I would know I need to pay $180 to pull our my teeth, I would already chhose another one. When I look into the bills, I found that they even charge $150 for consultation. ( I guess this is some kind of short video they played for me when I was waiting for the doctor, and I was NEVER told watching this video would be charged!) I am 63 years old and have been to countless dentists in my life. Dr. Yen was by far the best. I had gone to two dentists and it took 1 1/2 hrs just to be seen for xrays. Dr Yen saw me quickly, did not try to get me to come back so he could get another office visit fee. An did the extractions then and there and it only took about 10 minutes and was painless. He's the best. Thank you Dr Yen. The lady staff member was also very pleasant helpful with my insurance. read more

My favorite dental/oral doctor ever. When I had my wisdom teeth removed, it took him 45mins to remove all 4. Yes I was knocked out but the way he administered the general anesthesia was good...I woke up feeling so comfortable. I've heard of some doctors that don't administrator it well and the patients wake up very sad or upset and emotional. I felt like I was on cloud 9. He has very accurate handwork and skills that I didn't feel pressure when I awoke half way a bit. His demeanor is wonderful as well, so confident and chill. He is understanding yet very easygoing and always smiling. I wish he did all types of dental work cause I'd come to this guy anyday, even with my dentist phobia. read more

I almost cancelled my appt with Dr. Yen but decided to just go in and get it over with. I am too terrified of needles but with the reviews here on yelp, it made me feel comfortable. Dr. Yen is nice and a chatterbox in a good way! He made me feel so comfortable and safe throughout the whole process. I had two wisdom teeth that needed to be taken out and Dr. Yen explained the whole procedure very clear. Since I'm a working student I got a discount which helped! I wanted general anesthesia because I couldn't bare the thought of the pulling and tugging. I know I'm a baby lol. Drugs kicked in fast and after 40 minutes I woke up high as a kite. They helped my bf get me to the car and explained everything to him before we drove off. The service is outstanding and the staff is very nice and funny! Dr. Yen is very knowledgable and comfortable of what he's doing which makes his patients comfortable and safe with him. It was the best decision I made for my little wisdom teeth!
