This place is my go-to spot whenever I'm craving authentic Asian ingredients I can't find anywhere else. They have everything to make any Asian dish you might be making from scratch. The produce section always has fresh lemongrass, Thai basil, and all those little veggies that make my stir fry feel legit. They've got a great selection of noodles, sauces, frozen dumplings, and snacks too, my guilty pleasure is definitely the seaweed chips and milk tea kits! For the area, this is a good place to buy the Korean groceries. I visited looking for ingredients to make the infamous Chicken on a stick. While I'm sure they have all the necessary ingredients I wasn't sure what I needed to make them. This store keeps going on and on with just about everything you will need to make any dish. I just went shopping Spending almost $97 for groceries. Everything there has gotten expensive they put down price per pound but there no scale. I missed calculated my budget and asked to return a couple of item right away. Cashier lady yelled at me about returning policy. I didn't understanding policy at the time but her yelling and rude attitude was unacceptable. They just lost loyal custom! I'been coming to this market since I moved Gainsville 3years ago. One thing about Chun Ching, from kim chi to mung bean just make sure you come bring enough for at least one thing. The reason and the case, for such seasonings and pastes, are to enjoy and not to waste. Hope that put a smile on your face The meat selection has quite the variety to choose from like pork belly and many different types of fish depending on the catch and day. Not all fish are local, do ask if that is a deciding factor for your purchase. The ramen selection is vast as is the frozen foods and veggies. Fresh oriental veggies can be found here as well as fruits. For me, its always fun to taste different foods of the world. I can guarantee no matter who you are or where you're from you can find something new here to try! I love this place more than Enson because it feels more akin to what you would find in a china town or usual oriental market versus the Enson corporate behemoth. I have been to this market once or twice before, and always find something interesting whenever I go in. Their selection is very wide, and they seem to have just about anything you could want in terms of food goods from the continent of Asia. This time around I was on the hunt for some curry paste, and found what I was looking for in droves. In addition to that, I was in search of some tamarind, and had to really hunt for it, but I did eventually find some! As I said, this place seems to have everything. We've been coming to Chun Ching for several years now and they have a great selection of Asian products and necessary ingredients for authentic Asian cuisine. The prices are very competitive and they carry a nice selection of products, some of the hard to find brands and Asian produce. I recommend going here if you're looking for high quality rice in bulk. We picked up a 50 lbs. bag of Kokuho Premium Extra Fancy Medium Grain on sale for $29.99 and they even had a guy help us bring it to our car. And although the parking lot can be a little tight at times, the staff gives great customer service and we can always find what we need. read more

I love this place. It has a large section for meat alternatives. Produce is fairly priced. They have a whole back section with just instant noodles. So many brands and flavors! The only not great thing is the parking lot, which is too small and needs to be repaved. read more

If there's one thing that I miss from home, it's the Asian markets that my mom takes me out to every weekend. Chun Ching Market definitely satisfied that familiar experience. Their small meat selections, instant noodles aisle, Asian snacks, Asian sauces, and especially their small bakery section filled that empty void of mine that formed when I left home. The store isn't big but it's a good size. They have all kinds of Asian snacks and food. There was one thing in particular that I was looking for and it was the spiciest Korean ramen. Thank the Asian Gods because there weren't just one but FIVE different spicy Korean ramens including the one I have been craving. Of course, I bought all five at a reasonable price and enjoyed my meals for the next couple of weeks. The bakery section is a small area in the store but they had freshly made buns along with other baked goods. I got a taro bun, pineapple bun, and a coconut bun and they were all delicious. I had high hopes for this market from previous reviews. This is a Taiwanese market based on the accent of the clerks here. Which also got my hopes up for some Taiwanese goods, especially beef stew five spice style ramen, which was not to be found. Also, to clarify, they receive their shipments of BBQ duck, pork, and baked goods from Orlando on Fridays. So, if you come on Saturday they will be no BBQ meats left and a slim bakery selection. I was distressed to see the explosion of food that they have and piles of merchandise all over the floor. The freezer cases are full off tossed merchandise that you would have to dig through like the DVD bin at Walmart to find anything. And, when it comes to perishable items, that is not my thing to dig through reading expiration dates. They have items from almost every Asian country, including produce that you are not likely to see anywhere else, such as four types of eggplant for curries and braising. Some of the produce is very fresh and some is still covered in dirt. Pick your own battles, but I will probably not come back here again. read more

I love going to Chun Ching Market here in Gainesville and I think it is the best oriental market we have. In Gainesville you do not find a ton of Asian markets but the ones we have are pretty good, but then you go to Chun Ching and you realize you should never go to the other one's again and stick with going to Chun Ching when you need stuff. I love going to this store and just exploring what they have. I was told one time by a worker here they get all their produce on Wednesday's so if you want fresh produce Wednesday is the best day to go. When I arrived yesterday I noticed a packed parking lot and I can only think it was for the fresh produce. Yesterday I was in the store to find noodles! I found the noodles I was looking for and saw over a 100 different other noodles that I will need to come back and try. This store also has an extensive fish collection. If you are looking for a specific fish they do not have in store, they will order it specially for you. They have a great section of this store that sells bowls, chop sticks, soup spoons, plates, utensils, and cooking woks. Also, if you are looking for soy sauce, they have about 100 different ones. They also have candy and other fun things to try. I also found it super nice to see they had a section with baked goods. All the baked goods come from Sweet Buns Bakery which is a Asian Bakery in town! The prices here are amazing! Also, certain produce can done by weight so if you just want a little of something you pay for the weight you buy instead of the full price for a giant package. I think this is the best Asian supermarket in town and I highly recommend that you check this place out! read more

This is a rough-hewn gem of a market, rather disorganized (though that has gotten better lately) and filled with exotic wafting smells from the back rooms where meat and spices live side by side in felicitous comfort. I do adore shopping here and I always find interesting things though it can be a bit overwhelming when you first go in. They are strongest in Chinese and South Asian ingredients with much smaller sections devoted to Korean and Japanese essentials (the Asian market on 34th near Earth Fare is a better bet for those ingredients) but if you seek black vinegar, Lao Gan Ma sauces, fermented black beans, jujubes etc... Chun Ching has you covered. They are also expanding their household goods section and I've found a couple things I'd only seen before at much larger Chinese markets in Orlando and LA, like Chinese style pickle crocks. The staff is friendly and helpful though can be brisk at first, but my dealings with them have always been positive. For example, upon taking an aforesaid pickle crock home, I discovered it had a small chip in the glass, and they graciously allowed me to exchange it despite the small print on the receipt I noticed afterwards stating no exchanges allowed. I love this place. The staff is friendly and helpful, the selection of Asian foods and produce remind me of our Asian store in Anchorage. This is our go to for condiments, shelf stable tofu, veg, mushrooms, and all sorts of Asian goodies. It is as a Asian as Asian comes. Yes, the lanes are crowded, there's stuff everywhere, the smells are interesting but it is all perfect. And, there's an amazing selection of vegan shrimp (bet you didn't know this existed) and tuna (makes excellent tuna salad). read more

Obviously the oriental markets in Gainesville cannot compare to larger cities but this is my favorite oriental market in Gainesville. They have the best variety of vegetables, meats, seafood and frozen foods. Their prices are probably the lowest of any oriental market in Gainesville. I come here to buy all my ingredients for dumplings, pho, etc. Double check if this is still their schedule but they usually bring in fresh vegetables and pastries on Wednesday morning. They sometimes have cooked peking duck for sale as well as other cooked food. I generally come here for ingredients for meals that I expect to make, namely oyster sauce, soy sauce, fish sauce, dumpling wrappers and vegetables. read more

I've been able to find some northern Thai products and spices that I haven't been able to find since coming back, which I'm very happy about. Chun Ching is an interesting place, a Chinese market that is often packed with Chinese and other Asian customers and the market of all Gainesville's Asian groceries that is nearest to the Chinese markets I frequented in San Francisco when I lived there a few blocks from Chinatown. To Western eyes, this market may seem crowded and even dirty, but I can tell you that most markets in major Chinatowns like SF's are just like this place: if you don't like it, you can go to Publix or the nice clean Korean market over off 34th Street. This is not really even my favorite place to shop for Asian goods, but there are however some items I cannot find anywhere but this store and I am thankful for them for that, plus, on Wednesdays a friend says they bring in new produce and smoked Chinese duck and other goods. I have not yet been for this haul, but it sounds very tasty. I was surprised by Helen D.'s review . . . not that she was upset with their poor customer service but that she had never reviewed for Yelp before and decided to make her first review one stating how irked she was with the local Chinese grocery. Please understand that differences in cultures can lead to differences in things like customer service. I experienced this in Chinatown too, and even tried to learn a few words of Cantonese to make things go better. However, you'll find some real bargins and true gems in this type of market if you bother. read more

Pros: An Asian market in the truest sense. (Packed with produce, packaged items, and tools) Cons: An Asian market in the truest sense. (Cluttered, small, not the cleanest) Bottom Line: The epitome of shopping in an Asian market, you might not find everything immediately but if you give it a chance you might find more then you were expecting. Chung Ching is probably the least well known of all the Asian markets in town. It's also the least centrally located, unlike the markets off of 13th and SW Archer. As a result most people don't realize there's a treasure trove of products here that you won't find anywhere else. From the side of the road it looks like a relatively small dilapidated building with a tiny parking lot, but for those of us who've been to Asia we know that's not a deterrent but rather a cause for exploration; the best and cheapest items are always found in the dirtiest holes in the wall. What I really like about Chung Ching is how it unexpectedly houses a variety of ethnic foods ranging from Japanese to Malaysian. I've even found a Thai mortar and pestle here which is exceedingly rare in Gainesville. Sure the produce is all over the place and it's not the cleanest, but a few visits and you become accustomed to the organized chaos also just wash your vegetables well and you'll be fine. They even have the weekly delivery of barbecue meats and Asian style baked goods, so inquiry them about their latest schedule. There's also a large number of Asian vegetables that I'd be hard pressed to find in conventional grocery stores such as lotus root. Honestly the workers here are hard working, and while they might be the most talkative I have never had bad service. If you have trouble finding something, ask about it and you'll find someone more then willing to help. All in all Chung Ching is not the overly sanitized white washed walls of your conventional Western grocery store. I won't say it's representative of current grocery stores in Asia which can look just like a Publix but house pig intestines, and dried octopus - local fare for some of us of Asian descent. There are an oddly high number of asian marts in town, and Chun Ching is always enjoyable to visit. They are located between Haven Hospice Attic and a gas station on 8th Ave. The parking lot is small and a little funky in shape, and sometime it is PACKED. Tip: go on a sunday, no one is ever there. When you walk in, the aisles are divided by country. I remember Malaysia, Philippines, Taiwan, India, Japan, China, and a few others. They have a decent size freezer section in the back packed with wontons and a rice closet, I guess is what you would call it, a produce area, and then some areas for frozen fish/meat. But my ultimate reason in going here is the Chinese pastries in the back. They are not made on site, I think they ship them in from Orlando. But you can get some decent custard buns here, and my favorite, Mung Bean Hopia! $3.99 for four, and SO good. Sometimes, if you're lucky, you can spot a styrofoam container of roast duck. At first they kept it outside, which was iffy, but this time I saw the container in a cold fridge area (think where they keep cookie dough, sort of an open fridge), which made my mind rest at ease. Great place to get some Asian groceries. I think they have the cheapest price on vegetables compared to other Asian markets in gainesville. You kind of need to know what you are looking for before going in there since there are a lot of stuff and is a bit messy. If you want to get some fresh stuff you should come Wednesday night or Thursday. Wednesday night is when bake goods, and other BBQ stuff are brought here from Orlando. Sometimes the shipment might be delayed to Thursday morning. Most of the fresh produce is also stocked on Wed, therefore you will see most Asian going there to shop on Thursday and Friday Last time I went they added a new isle just for Indian spices and other Indian foods. The aisles are narrow but they have a little of everything. They have a lot of things packed in that store. I go on Friday afternoons and it's usually packed with people too. They sell a lot of spices, frozen foods, rices but also fresh foods (vegetables, etc), baked goods, medicines, etc. There is enough parking but at first it is hard to find the entrance to the parking space because it is narrow (only enough space for traffic in one direction) and because the parking is on grass/dirt, if it has been raining you will get mud on your car tires and shoes. read more

only place in Gainesville I've found with roast duck and char siu! It's shipped from Orlando. It's a take-out box of duck, but it's not of the greatest parts. Comes with some meaty pieces but also things like the neck and other bony parts .. good for stock but for $8 and a lacking roast duck market, I'll settle for it.
