My wife and I moved to Cave Creek 3 years ago, one of the first dining experiences we had in this area was at Chula Grayhawk. We have been regular diners there since. My wife is from Boston and I'm from San Francisco, we moved here from New Zealand and truly appreciate and enjoy fresh, well-prepared seafood Chula has certainly filled that bill! We went there this evening for a casual early Friday dinner. If you've been there before you know that guests stood in line in front of the refrigerated counter showcasing their fresh seafood selections and placed your order at the end of the counter - if you had guests, if you were like me, I firmly advised them to know what they wanted when we hit the order counter. This evening was entirely different; I arrived before my wife and was greeted by a host from a stand halfway between the front door and the refrigerated case. Tiffany greeted me and asked how many in my party and said she would seat me. I asked, don't we order at the counter? She said, no, tonight is the first night we are trying full table service. What a great change! Chelsea was our server, we ordered drinks and had time to look at the menu. Far more relaxing! Arriving just before 5 pm, we enjoyed happy hour prices for our beverages, and I ordered fresh northwest coast oysters as an appetizer at $1 less per oyster during happy hour. They were fantastic, tasting of the briny pacific ocean, plump and properly served with mignonette. The servers and assistants were all attentive and each advised that table service was new, so they were testing it. Our dinners were well prepared and delicious, I had one of the best salmon filets I've been served, grilled to perfection and served with my request for lemon butter only. When presented the check, I asked about inputting my phone number as a regular we've been earning points. The server was able to input my number at the table and we received a discount on top of it. I certainly hope Chula continues with the table service as it was far more relaxing and less hectic than standing in line. Either way, the seafood has always been exceptional - kudos to the chefs. I'm a huge Chula Seafood fan and have been to the Phoenix location many times. I recently had dinner at this Grayhawk location on a Sunday evening with my mom and brother and I had take-out from this location once before as well. I am clearly a loyal fan to the Hawaiian Poke Bowl with salmon as that's what I had on both of these occasions. This may be one of the best things on the menu, so if you like a lot of food, this is what I would recommend. On my recent visit, my mom and brother both had cooked fish with some sides and they thought it was good but not great. I am a fan of the fast casual, order at the counter, concept, and this Chula is no exception. Pricing is a bit steep but if you want fresh quality seafood, you can't go wrong here at this or other Chula locations. read more

This was our first time here, and it was a little disorienting on figuring out which counter to place our order at after looking over the menu. We decided to order a cup of clam chowder each to start off with and for our main entrees, we ordered a cold lobster roll and a shrimp po boy. The chowder was a bit disappointing for our preferences. However, both the lobster roll and the shrimp po boy were fantastic in both taste and quality! The lobster roll looked smaller than others I've had before but it was absolutely STUFFED with sizable chunks of lobster meat. I would definitely come back for another one in the future. What I really appreciated about this place was that for a fast-casual dining experience, the service was very friendly and attentive from start to finish. Drove up to this strip mall in Grayhawk. Plenty of parking and easy to access the restaurant. Ordered the Korean Bowl as well as the Fish and Chips . Fish & Chips - fish was super flaky and tasted fresh. Batter was light but still held their crunch. I ordered the 2 piece and it was super filling. In hindsight, I should've ordered the 1 piece. Korean Bowl - was spicy with again super fresh ahi tuna. The bowl had a Korean kochujang dressing. Just the right amount of vegetables combined with rice. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. I LOVE THE EMPLOYEES. I ended up getting fish tacos, it came with two that was $22, steep! But, those were very very good. My husband got the fish and chips and he said the batter was OK but not seasoned. He put a lot of lemon and mop vinegar on them which made them better but how hard is it to season the batter? That was a great property. I originally ordered the clam chowder, a bowl, the bowl was half full if that. But I couldn't really taste the clam chowder because it had way too much sherry in it, I had to send it back. My husband got a margarita and he said it was great. Ordered takeout from this location and it was just ok. I got the salmon entree with two sides. The fish was very good quality but my salmon looked burnt on the outside and tasted a little burnt too. Even weird was the inside was not overcooked at all, in fact, it was a little less cooked than I prefer. I got it with Juan's sauce, which I didn't end up trying because the smell was too strong. Chula in GrayHawk is great! Talk about Fresh!!! Their fish is delivered daily so their selection changes every day, along with their specials. You can get the best fish at their market to cook or grill at home. They have smoked fish, candied fish and dips too. We make Baked Stuffed Lobsters on New Year's Eve and get our live Lobsters from Chula as well! They also have a cute little bar and a restaurant area to dine in for lunch or dinner. They have a happy hour that most people aren't aware of. It's Mon-Sat 3-5pm and all day on Sundays!! Love the chula rita, grilled shrimp tacos, and it's $1 off all oysters for happy hour. Swung by on a Sunday around noon. Fairly busy, but plenty of available seats as this location has many seating options inside and outside on their patio. So many delicious options on their menu, but I ended up choosing a dozen raw oysters and the seared scallops with a side of clam chowder. Sunday is also their all day happy hour so the oysters were a great value! Food came out quickly and was as amazing to eat as it was to look at. Everything was so fresh and nicely prepared. Visiting Scottsdale for business. I had a craving for fish and chips. I read Yelp reviews and thought I would give it a try. I ordered the 2 piece fish and chip and a margarita. My colleague ordered the clam chowder and tuna sashimi. The food was delicious. I enjoyed my fish and chips and my colleague said that the chowder was good and that the sashimi was fresh and delicious. The staff are friendly and the service was great. They had great recommendations and advice on the menu! We ordered: The swordfish with a side of clam chowder. The swordfish was very juicy and had a nice grilled flavor to it. Incredibly expensive for what you get. We got two lobster rolls with fries and one side of tartar sauce and it was almost 90 dollars. We did like the bread that was used for the rolls, but other than that it was flavorless. It also didn't have as much lobster as you would expect for that price. The fries were great, but probably could have used more salt. The tartar sauce just tasted like lemon, which is disappointing (however I am spoiled when it comes to tartar sauce and seafood having grown up in Washington State). I personally would give this restaurant 2.5-3 stars, however, I feel like a portion of my negative experience was due to my personal preferences, and we did not try many menu items, hence why my rating is 4 stars. read more

This is some very solid seafood. It's very fresh and very tasty. The Hawaiian Poke bowl with ahi was fresh and reminded me of seafood I would get next to the ocean. It was also a huge portion of (I ordered the six ounce dish) and is easily 2-3 meals for me! The lobster roll is good, but there's not a ton of lobster considering its New York price tag. The ceviche was also very fresh. You can also purchase fresh fish to cook at home. This reminded me of a seafood shop in Long Island instead of one in Arizona. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. I ordered take out in the store and was asked multiple times how I was doing and if I needed anything while I waited. Chula is one of those places that is a casual fine dining place where you have prices that are almost as expensive as fine dining, but without the hassle of having to wear super formal wear or being forced to pay some valet fee. My crony and I tried a cornbread item, the salmon, caesar salad, and a chocolate ecclair. The cornbread looked like a pancake and was absolutely delicious. The caesar salad was standard and had just a tad too much dressing in it. The salmon was above average but its burnt parts sometimes overpowered the flavor of the salmon itself. The chocolate ecclair is a small chocolate ice cream bar and it was absolutely delicious. Service was nice but we were the only customers in the store after all. I honestly wasn't expecting anything more or anything less than what my family and I received when dining at Chula. I was fully expecting a seafood restaurant with fresh fish, and that's exactly what we got. I love the counter ordering experience because I'm all about efficiency and getting in and getting out (IE fast food that is also high quality). I order the large sashimi and a side of grilled salmon. My husband ordered the lobster roll and the spicy tuna poke bowl. I ordered my kids the cheeseburger. Everyone was happy with their food. My husband especially, which is saying something because he is INSANELY picky. My food was tasty but I'm not going to say it was the best food I have ever eaten. The sashimi was fine, but a little bland and a bit over priced for what it was. My grilled salmon was also fine, however, it was a tad bit too burnt in places, yet undercooked in the center, so a little confusing. The burnt flavor sort of overpowered the rest of it. I'd dine here again, but I'd probably order something other than the sashimi platter next time. First time visiting this location but have never had a terrible experience at any location yet. Came in on a Friday during Feb when Lent started so maybe that was a big factor of why they were so busy. The wait took a while and by the time we got to order there weren't any seats inside unless you made a reservation. Luckily the heaters were on outside which helped a bit. Despite being incredibly busy, the oysters and drinks came out fast including our orders for the fish taco and California burrito, so I sincerely commend this location for being fast! The only thing which I didn't like as much, which I'm sure has very little to do with the restaurant and staff was that some people who came in after us that were still in line had their family members sit and hold a table which I felt was unfair, especially for those way in line and now have nowhere to sit. I'm not sure if there's a way to enforce this, but why should someone who comes in later be able to hold a table when there have been people waiting way before them? The servers and staff are all nice and organized. We had a large order and they got it exactly right. Unfortunately, we were not fans of the food and drinks. We got a spicy tuna Hawaiian poke bowl and fish plate. The food was bland. The drinks were also almost completely water/ice (more than average) and just did not taste very good. My margarita was vaguely sour and mostly watery. We went to Chula Seafood Grayhawk on a very hot day. The restaurant was definitely on the warm side. They really need to pump up their A/C. All the employees were very nice. They were having an oyster special for raw oysters -buy 6 and get 6 free. We ordered the oysters and fish cerviche for starters. I ordered the iced Green Tea which was very disappointing. It was so watered down it had no flavor at all. The cocktail my son in-law ordered was very good. We ordered our entrees and were waiting for our starters. 40 minutes later the entrees appeared and we never received the starters! We told the girl who brought over the entrees and she said they were backed up in the kitchen with oysters. We could have at least gotten the cerviche since that was premade. 40 minutes was a ridiculous long time to sit there and wait for food! We started eating our entrees and then the oysters and cerviche showed up. The oysters were excellent but the cerviche was definitely a disappointment. It hardly had any fish in it and it was mostly just the tomato based juice that the small amount of fish was in. The flavor was ok. I would not order it again. I ordered the shrimp tacos which were very good. My son in-law and daughter ordered the Lobster Roll an the California Burrito. They were happy with their choices. We also ordered the coleslaw which was very good. If we ever go back I would not go on a hot day. Honestly so effing good. Light. Fresh. Crispy. The breading was perfect. Fish was flaky and cooked to perfection. Chips were nice and crispy and well salted. Fresh cabbage and pico with a beautiful, lightly sweetened chipotle cream sauce. The green sauce has so much flavor, though a little mild for my preference. It's like being back in San Diego for lunch. Staff is friendly. Ordered takeout from Chula seafood for an early Mother's Day lunch while my mom was in town. Called right around 10 am to order food for pickup and Chris was so nice taking my order. The food was ready right when my husband got there at 10:45. My mom and MIL got the Mediterranean bowl with shrimp and they loved their order. The shrimp were seasoned really well and packaged separately from the rest of the bowl. I ordered the grilled tacos and got 2 shrimp tacos and 1 fish taco. Looking back since we ordered food for takeout, I should have picked something else because the taco shells got soggy but they were still delicious. I preferred the shrimp tacos over the fish but both had so much flavor. My husband ordered the California burrito with fish and the burrito was massive and there was a generous portion of grilled fish. Overall, loved the food and the seafood was definitely fresh. Came here for dinner with my son and newborn 3 nights in a row while staying in Scottsdale. We went to the Grayhawk location twice and the South Scottsdale location once. Appreciated that they have kid friendly options so that my 7 year old and I were both satisfied. The crew at both locations were very sweet and helpful. The one here had SO MUCH mayonnaise it was basically a mayonnaise sandwich with some lobster. Too bad because the lobster was good and the roll was from Noble bread so they had the raw ingredients for a decent sandwich. The other item we had was a piece of grilled salmon. Again, super disappointed. The salmon had potential as it seems like a good piece of fresh fish but the preparation was terrible.
