Chula Seafood has quickly become one of my favorite spots in Phoenix. I absolutely love the restaurant and the location--it's got a great vibe, and the experience is consistently excellent. If you've been to their Camelback location, you'll be happy to know it's the same high-quality food and service here. The Hawaiian poke bowls are outstanding--always incredibly fresh and full of flavor. The fish & chips are some of the best I've had, perfectly crispy and cooked just right. And the grilled swordfish? Next level. I've been back four times in the past two months, and somehow it just keeps getting better every time--which is saying something because it was already amazing from day one. Service is always friendly and efficient, and you can tell they really care about quality. I can't recommend Chula Seafood highly enough. If you haven't tried it yet, you're missing out. read more

Drove up to this strip mall in Grayhawk. Plenty of parking and easy to access the restaurant. Ordered the Korean Bowl as well as the Fish and Chips . Fish & Chips - fish was super flaky and tasted fresh. Batter was light but still held their crunch. I ordered the 2 piece and it was super filling. In hindsight, I should've ordered the 1 piece. Korean Bowl - was spicy with again super fresh ahi tuna. The bowl had a Korean kochujang dressing. Just the right amount of vegetables combined with rice. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Ordered takeout from this location and it was just ok. I got the salmon entree with two sides. The fish was very good quality but my salmon looked burnt on the outside and tasted a little burnt too. Even weird was the inside was not overcooked at all, in fact, it was a little less cooked than I prefer. I got it with Juan's sauce, which I didn't end up trying because the smell was too strong. I also got a side Caesar salad which was really good! Overall, chula has high quality ingredients but the execution wasn't there. read more

I LOVE THE EMPLOYEES. I ended up getting fish tacos, it came with two that was $22, steep! But, those were very very good. My husband got the fish and chips and he said the batter was OK but not seasoned. He put a lot of lemon and mop vinegar on them which made them better but how hard is it to season the batter? That was a great property. I originally ordered the clam chowder, a bowl, the bowl was half full if that. But I couldn't really taste the clam chowder because it had way too much sherry in it, I had to send it back. My husband got a margarita and he said it was great. Chula in GrayHawk is great! Talk about Fresh!!! Their fish is delivered daily so their selection changes every day, along with their specials. You can get the best fish at their market to cook or grill at home. They have smoked fish, candied fish and dips too. We make Baked Stuffed Lobsters on New Year's Eve and get our live Lobsters from Chula as well! They also have a cute little bar and a restaurant area to dine in for lunch or dinner. They have a happy hour that most people aren't aware of. It's Mon-Sat 3-5pm and all day on Sundays!! Love the chula rita, grilled shrimp tacos, and it's $1 off all oysters for happy hour. For lunch we've had hatch chile tuna melt, fish tacos, and different poke bowls, all delicious. The staff is super friendly, everything is very clean. It's five star quality seafood! read more

Came here for dinner with my son and newborn 3 nights in a row while staying in Scottsdale. We went to the Grayhawk location twice and the South Scottsdale location once. Appreciated that they have kid friendly options so that my 7 year old and I were both satisfied. The crew at both locations were very sweet and helpful. The food was insane- especially the special- was recommended to get a side of rice to soak up the broth sauce as I ate the salad and it was perfect. First time visiting this location but have never had a terrible experience at any location yet. Came in on a Friday during Feb when Lent started so maybe that was a big factor of why they were so busy. The wait took a while and by the time we got to order there weren't any seats inside unless you made a reservation. Luckily the heaters were on outside which helped a bit. Despite being incredibly busy, the oysters and drinks came out fast including our orders for the fish taco and California burrito, so I sincerely commend this location for being fast! The only thing which I didn't like as much, which I'm sure has very little to do with the restaurant and staff was that some people who came in after us that were still in line had their family members sit and hold a table which I felt was unfair, especially for those way in line and now have nowhere to sit. I'm not sure if there's a way to enforce this, but why should someone who comes in later be able to hold a table when there have been people waiting way before them? Swung by on a Sunday around noon. Fairly busy, but plenty of available seats as this location has many seating options inside and outside on their patio. So many delicious options on their menu, but I ended up choosing a dozen raw oysters and the seared scallops with a side of clam chowder. Sunday is also their all day happy hour so the oysters were a great value! Food came out quickly and was as amazing to eat as it was to look at. Everything was so fresh and nicely prepared. Would have ordered more if I didn't have to get back to work. I frequent their other locations, but this has become one of my favorite spots. read more

The servers and staff are all nice and organized. We had a large order and they got it exactly right. Unfortunately, we were not fans of the food and drinks. We got a spicy tuna Hawaiian poke bowl and fish plate. The food was bland. The drinks were also almost completely water/ice (more than average) and just did not taste very good. My margarita was vaguely sour and mostly watery. The staff also started cleaning up in the middle of our meal (our food and stacking the chairs around us) even though closing time wasn't for another hour. read more

This is some very solid seafood. It's very fresh and very tasty. The Hawaiian Poke bowl with ahi was fresh and reminded me of seafood I would get next to the ocean. It was also a huge portion of (I ordered the six ounce dish) and is easily 2-3 meals for me! The lobster roll is good, but there's not a ton of lobster considering its New York price tag. The ceviche was also very fresh. You can also purchase fresh fish to cook at home. This reminded me of a seafood shop in Long Island instead of one in Arizona. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. I ordered take out in the store and was asked multiple times how I was doing and if I needed anything while I waited. Chula is one of those places that is a casual fine dining place where you have prices that are almost as expensive as fine dining, but without the hassle of having to wear super formal wear or being forced to pay some valet fee. My crony and I tried a cornbread item, the salmon, caesar salad, and a chocolate ecclair. The cornbread looked like a pancake and was absolutely delicious. The caesar salad was standard and had just a tad too much dressing in it. The salmon was above average but its burnt parts sometimes overpowered the flavor of the salmon itself. The chocolate ecclair is a small chocolate ice cream bar and it was absolutely delicious. Service was nice but we were the only customers in the store after all. The whole place was clean and aesthetically pleasing. read more

I honestly wasn't expecting anything more or anything less than what my family and I received when dining at Chula. I was fully expecting a seafood restaurant with fresh fish, and that's exactly what we got. I love the counter ordering experience because I'm all about efficiency and getting in and getting out (IE fast food that is also high quality). I order the large sashimi and a side of grilled salmon. My husband ordered the lobster roll and the spicy tuna poke bowl. I ordered my kids the cheeseburger. Everyone was happy with their food. My husband especially, which is saying something because he is INSANELY picky. My food was tasty but I'm not going to say it was the best food I have ever eaten. The sashimi was fine, but a little bland and a bit over priced for what it was. My grilled salmon was also fine, however, it was a tad bit too burnt in places, yet undercooked in the center, so a little confusing. The burnt flavor sort of overpowered the rest of it. I'd dine here again, but I'd probably order something other than the sashimi platter next time. We came here a week ago and ordered our daughter the salmon kids dinner. It was excellent, we order it again tonight and she got a 2"x2" piece of fish. My husband ordered the fish platter and the size of fish was the size of my daughter's KIDS dinner last time. I get shrinkflation, but when you pay a premium price for a dinner and you leave hungry- way to do us dirty chula. Won't be back- shame because the food is good. read more

We stopped in for dinner this past Friday. We sat at the bar and ordered drinks and dinner. The staff could not wait to get everyone out of there. It was 8:30 and half the chairs were stacked on top of tables and all we could smell was bleach. It's not like we were the last ones there either. There were still people sitting at several tables in the restaurant by the bar and on the patio. If you're that anxious to get everyone out on a Friday night we'll just go somewhere else. It does give more of a sit down experience even though you do order at a counter but for 4 oz of lobster for $32 with the bun and a small traditional bag of chips vs. $21 I have seen on other menus I would give others a try next time. I will say they have very friendly staff and a lot of variety of food options so that might be a draw. My husband got a poke bowl and said it was a little bland compared to places back home. What a pleasant surprise! It doesn't look fancy but WOW, a really great dinner last night! We sat outside on the patio with our well-behaved dog and had cocktails and dinner. The service was excellent. Very kind staff and had the attitude of helpfulness. I had swordfish with a lovely bourbon sauce and a Caesar salad. Perfect portion of fish, cooked still moist and flavorful. I loved the salad. It had a lot of garlicky dressing, which I loved. If you want less, ask for it on the side. For me, it was excellent. It's like being back in San Diego for lunch. Staff is friendly. The restaurant is clean and casual with zero fishy smell (which is so rare here in the Valley) and they have a good selection of fresh seafood available and a nice looking bar. Ordered takeout from Chula seafood for an early Mother's Day lunch while my mom was in town. Called right around 10 am to order food for pickup and Chris was so nice taking my order. The food was ready right when my husband got there at 10:45. My mom and MIL got the Mediterranean bowl with shrimp and they loved their order. The shrimp were seasoned really well and packaged separately from the rest of the bowl. I ordered the grilled tacos and got 2 shrimp tacos and 1 fish taco. Looking back since we ordered food for takeout, I should have picked something else because the taco shells got soggy but they were still delicious. I preferred the shrimp tacos over the fish but both had so much flavor. My husband ordered the California burrito with fish and the burrito was massive and there was a generous portion of grilled fish. Overall, loved the food and the seafood was definitely fresh. Good spot. Went to this location for the first time two weeks ago and it was solid. Very friendly service from a gentleman, I forget his name, behind the bar. Food came out quick and overall was good. Today 9/28 a different story. Ceviche bland. Fries overcooked. Worst of all - the young lady behind the bar was aloof and clearly was not happy about working today. Or at least that was the impression she gave. Overall she did not make us feel welcome. Friends of ours really wanted to try Chula so that is where we went for seafood. To start,the bartender was less than welcoming ,she actually made my old fashioned in a shaker and our friend ordered a water back with her cocktail and rather than sharing she wasn't sure what that was she just didn't bring it with the order. We asked again and she consulted with someone who came to the table to clarify we wanted a glass of water. If you have a full bar, then please have someone who can make a cocktail! Then we ordered food. I will say that the food was "OK" but not great. I did not care for the grilled oysters - too much chipotle seasoning. The chowder had a vinegar like after taste, and the tuna melt was almost burnt. The quality of Chula seafood is not what you would expect for the prices charged (you order at the counter like a cafeteria and get your water in big plastic cups). I'm sorry to have to write a negative review but our experience was not great. If we are going to pay the same prices as full service restaurants, we will go to either Buck and Rider or Lure- their menus are better, the food is better and , the cocktails are better! read more

I love this place. Came to visit my brother in fountain hills and he was in the mood for a lobster roll. I always try to support local restaurants as opposed to chains. Found this gem on Yelp and glad I gave it a try. It is his go to place at least one a week. They have daily specials and happy hour specials. Came here 3 of the 5 days I was there. This is a great counter order fresh fish restaurant. We loved the atmosphere of this North Scottsdale location. Very clean, plenty of seats and tasteful decor. The staff were helpful guiding us through the menu and checking on us. We had a variety of fresh fish dishes spread out over 2 visits. The white fish ceviche was loaded with fish, tomato, lime, cilantro, jalapeno and served with a generous helping of tortilla chips. This was a very fresh and filling starter. We shared the clam chowder which was more potato than clam and the flavor was just one dimensional. My husband opted for fish tacos and I went with the fish and chips. The fish on both dishes was so fresh and cooked well and not over seasoned, portions were big. On our second visit we had the ahi poke bowl which was not only delicious but loved the look of this dish. Very fresh and bright. I appreciated the variety of vegetables and that the dressing was light. We did share a dozen of east coast oysters which were well priced and a great starter.
