this is definitely a hidden gem in lincolnton. my boyfriend and I decided to go to try it out, and i definitely don't regret it. The entrance is on the right side of the building, and it is a little small, but the inside of the building has older signs which is so cute. I would describe it as being similar to BBQ king right down the road. the hamburger steak with onions is SO good i would definitely recommend, as well as the fried pickles and okra. The server was nice, but she didn't really ask what we wanted to eat she just stared at us, but i think i was just nervous lol. I am coming back here again!! read more

Chuckwagon is one of Lincolnton's locally owned burger places, which doesn't adequately describe it, really. It has so much more! One of my favorite things about the restaurant is how they home cook a few specials each day. One of today's specials was Hamburger Steak with gravy and onions, mashed potatoes and pinto beans. It always comes with a dessert of some kind, too. They also offer those pinto beans in a bowl with cornbread. The last special was the one I chose: Vegetable Beef soup with a grilled cheese sandwich. At one time or another I've practically had everything on the menu. I love their flounder sandwiches and their hot dogs. Sometimes they'll have chicken casserole as their special of the day and I'll be in heaven! The ranch dressing is also some of my favorite around. They actually have a great salads. Another great feature about this restaurant is the drive up service. You can call ahead and they'll bring it out to your car, or check the menu board that have been there for 20 years and order when you get there. Like a sonic, only better offerings! If you do go inside to eat, they have a very small dining area. It gets really busy at lunch, but there is an outdoor seating area when the weather is nice. 4 stars. This place is a good solid place that has been in business for as long as I've lived here. It's not fancy, but it is good at what it does. Give it a try! It's an institution! read more

Food was great. Slaw was probably my favorite around. I would suggest subbing the regular fries with the sour cream fries they are sooo much better. I only give 4 starts because it took so long to get the food. Next time I will definitely be calling ahead. read more

If I'm in town on a Thursday, I'm going to Chuckwagon for Spaghetti!! Fried bread, salad, spaghetti, dessert, sweet tea.. Basically a ton of yummy food for a low price (less than $8!) They rotate their desserts, and I have yet to have one I don't love. It is small inside, but takeout is a great option...You can call ahead and they will bring it out to your car. Great local place with yummy food for a good value! Update: I have now tried their bbq chicken & chicken pot pie specials as well. Both are also good! Desserts have continued to impress and have ranged from banana pudding to peach cobbler to strawberry cake. read more

We have driven past the Chuckwagon many many times. Today we stopped for lunch. The dining area is small but interesting with the different signs on the walls. Our food was okay, but not great. The fries are not from fresh potatoes, they are from frozen and were NOT good at all. You can not make good fries from frozen potatoes! I doubt that we will stop in again. I normally always get their special for that specific day but I've never had an issue with my food. Wednesday chicken pot pie is the best! They always give me plenty of food for the price that you pay. I'm disappointed to see other people's negative review's considering that they've only been there once. People need to understand that sometimes there are mistakes but that doesn't mean to ruin their reputation online. I'm not sure what the deal is with this place but every time I go here is get sick. I didn't realize the pattern and put it together until someone finally mentioned to me that it makes them sick too. Come to find out it makes a lot of people in the area sick as can be. Maybe hey do not store their meat properly or something like that? They aint much on the inside decor here, but dont let that stop ya. GOOD food here. And friendly staff too. And even though they're busy, we got our food in reasonable time. My ribeye steak was cooked just how I wanted it and it wasnt no small piece of meat either. A nice fat cut! Now you might notice, as I have noticed many times, that driving by you dont hardly see the parking lot filled. So that might tempt you to keep on riding and not pull in. Well here's the skinny on that: They do a BIG bunch of business in togo orders. And so, they cook up them meals all day long, but the folks is only pulling in and out again to pick em up. Love the food! We have been coming for years and love the owners. There super friendly. The wait can be long at times but that can be anywhere. I would say the prices are about the same as any fast food place around. I would recommend them to anyone who loves a good burger or hotdog. read more

This is a must stop for a great burger! They definitely do there cooking the old fashioned way. I have sampled many item in the menu, try the fried chicken it's awesome too!! Service can sometimes be slow but for some reason I don't care when I chose to eat there. Dining area is very small only 6 booths and a couple tables but you can make easy conversation that close! They are always busy and especially on the weekends when they offer ribeye dinner. If you are one to judge completely on appearance it's not for you but who can make those people happy anyway!! I've been going to Chuckwagon Grill my entire life. There aren't many places left that serve regular Southern comfort food like Chuckwagon does. Their daily specials are a great value. For $19.95 you can get a ribeye or prime rib, baked potato (or sweet), side salad, roll, and drink. The food is homemade. Hot dogs and burgers are sloppy and delicious. The ground beef is hand pattied--no pre-formed burgers. The poor boy and poor girls are excellent traditional choices. The onion rings and fried pickles are addictive, not to mention the excellent sweet tea...or a set up. If you want something good and not from a drive-thru chain restaurant, drive up to Chuckwagon and eat in your car or you can go inside and eat. Whatever option you choose, you won't be disappointed. Oh, just so you know, good food takes a while to cook, so you might have to wait a few minutes. Call-in orders are welcome. Stay strong, Chuckwagon!! Roll on!!! read more
